No good deed goes unpunished.

Smoke filled the Hero’s lungs as they stumbled forward, legs moving shakily under them. The only thing that reassured them that they were still alive was the pounding beat in their chest and the blood seeping through the fingers. There was fire, everywhere, for as far as they could see. They flinched as they heard something smash to the ground, snapping them out of the shock. The city, their city, the one they had worked their entire life to protect was now crumbling underneath their feet. They looked around briskly, trying to see if they could find any face they would recognize, Superhero, Sidekick, Other Hero, someone! They feel to their knees, crying out in pain as the held their hand up to their face. All they saw was red. They could see fire reflected back to them in their own blood. It was all around them now, in their lungs, in their eyes, in their hair, their curls now frizzed out and blowing around them, tickling their face and waving around like a flag of surrender. They could feel it in their heart to, that burning voice telling them to “keep fighting!” or “get up!”.

As they knelt next to the steps of the now burning town hall, they wished again that someone, anyone would come and help them. Come and save them so that for once could finally get just a moment to rest. Their prayers were soon answered in the most paradoxical way possible because when they looked up again they saw none other than Villain themself.

“Well well well…look at what we have here.” The villain drawled, their voice calm despite all of the chaos around them. But, the Villain thrived in chaos, the Hero supposed. Why shouldn’t they feel anything but serene in this tumultuous climate?

The hero tried to speak, but all it did was send them into a coughing fit. They pushed themself up onto their feet, catching their balance.

“St-stay away from me..”. The Hero choked out, sounding less like an order and more like a plea.

The villain winched, a false look of pity etching their face. “That’s quite the scratch you’ve got there.”

Hero gripped their side tighter, sneering up at their arch enemy “Why are you doing this, Villain?”

“Oh well you know what they say, no good deed goes unpunished.” Villain smirked as they made their way down the steps, careful to not slip on the Hero’s own blood. “And besides, wouldn’t want to miss that look on your face for the world..”

“No that’s not..you can’t just do this Villain.”

“Oh?” The Villains eyebrow raised “I cant?”

“You… Please Villain, don’t do this.” The Hero breathed out the words. They’d hardly ever begged for anything in their life. They knew it wouldn’t get them far, especially with the Villain. But..what else could they say?

“Oh! This is my favorite part!” The Villain laughed, clapping their hands together gleefully. “What will you beg me for, Hero? To spare your life? No…you’re much too selfless for that. Perhaps the lives of your team? The lives of the “innocent civilians” you’ve fought so hard to protect?” The Villain was mocking them, that much was clear. Although they couldn’t really tell with the ringing in their ears and their vision starting to fade. What would happen if they just…

“Please Villain, stop this! I’ll…I’ll do anything..Just please, leave them alone..” The Hero trailed off, their knees were now on the ground again, aswell as their hands. They were bracing themself, why was the world spinning so fast?

The Villain clicked their tongue, shaking their head. “Always the Heroics with you, Hero.” The Hero could feel a hand, gently petting their hair. “But, since you’ve asked so nicely..”

The next thing the Hero knew there was a hand under their knees and a hand on their back. They were being hoisted up right into the villains arms.

“It seems that you’re coming with me, dear Hero.”

And that was the last thing Hero knew before everything faded to black.

I wonder what would they do with the star trek franchise after the war? Like would they end the show? Would they continue as it is and get backlash for not including real aliens? Or would they try to retroactively incorporate andalites etc in the lore of the show? And most importantly, would they let Marco pitch his star trek ideas??

Also I just started watching ds9 last month (it's the first star trek I'm watching, it's great) and like it was airing during the war and it has A) an antagonistic/villian group of shapeshifters who infiltrate positions of power and B) a protagonist with a worm symbiot. And I can't stop wondering what the reaction to that would be after the war is in the open, would people think yeerks were involved in the production of the show?

No, I completely agree that sci fi is going to get awkward in the years after Animorphs ends. I haven't seen Star Trek, but that's why I have a through line in my fics about everyone suddenly not knowing what to make of X-Files, and the implication that the show itself is getting weird. It's partially because I have Thoughts about X-Files's wasted potential; it's mostly because I think postwar sci fi will be forced to grapple with all kinds of funny aneurysm energy (where events that occur after a work of fiction make that work deeply disturbing in hindsight).

Star Trek and other sci fi are going to have an upheaval after the yeerk invasion comes out. Kind of like the tectonic impact of the 9/11 murders on Hollywood, or the world's current ambivalence about COVID in fiction. I imagine there will be a lot of strictly metaphorical treatments of events (e.g. Inside and COVID, War of the Worlds and the NYC attacks). A lot of attempts to force the mold of a simple good vs. evil story (e.g. Glass Onion and COVID, Batman vs. Superman and the NYC attacks). Probably not a whole lot of nuance, at least not from Hollywood and not in those first years.

Fair warning you ever get into a show called the owl house, its super toxic if you don't ship the canon ships or popular Fandom headcanons about ships and "siblings". I'd the cartoon still worth it? Personally for me I love the show even though it still has problems. I love animation, the main villian, the main female protagonist Luz. And I love the ship that I got from it Luz x Hunter.

I love this series. But personally, I ship the canonicals ships. Huntlow and Lumity. Be careful, I have nothing against Luz & Hunter. Everyone can and should ship what they want.

Why I think Ted is the real villain of the Lorax:

Ted is basically the protagonist right? Yeah I hate him. First he is a simp, and no one likes simps except maybe other simps. Even then if you were a simp, would you like Ted?? First of all look at that haircut. It's really giving 2009 emo Justin Bieber and I hate Justin Bieber. And what is that outfit?? If you walked that streets in that outfit I would laugh. Now this kid is 12 right? He is over here simping over Taylor Swift who is supposedly 14. If I was 14 and some 12 year old simped over me I would reject him immediately before he even asks. Like do any of y'all wake up in the morning and think "I'LL FLY MY TOY IN TAYLOR SWIFT'S YARD TODAY"? I don't!!! He claims she is a woman in high school. If Taylor Swift is a woman then that makes me an old lady. That whole dream sequence is a menace to society. What kind of high schooler would kiss a guy drinking and Milkshake waster?? Like bruh that was a perfectly good Milkshake you threw you devil. We don't waste food. Speaking of food, dude really kissed a cereal box like who does that? The Onceler is a fool. My guy really believed Ted cared about trees lmao. He only wanted a tree to be a simp for Taylor Swift who likes trees. What if Taylor Swift wanted to destroy society? Ted would destroy society. That simp doesn't give a shit about fixing society. His mom is the savior, an angel, the best character of this movie. She stopped the Taylor Swift x Simp kiss and spared my eyes. Ily Ted's mom. You know what I don't love? First of all, tree hating simp taking all the credit for saving society. No the fuck you didn't, you were being a pathetic simp. Nature is beautiful and obviously you don't appreciate it, food waster. And then comes the worst scene of cinematic history. Why tf did you kiss the simp Taylor Swift?? You're better than this!! This is prove you're indeed not a woman in high school. Look at that guy, i wouldn't have kissed him. What he deserves is to be sad, emo and lonely for the rest of his life like the Onceler. I do find it interesting that Agent Green gets a whole redemption but Damien doesn't*. Like Damien, as much as he is a fucking asshole who does horrible shit to people, a lot of what he does clearly stems from a genuine inability to understand other people. Meanwhile, Owen is over here low-key doing Nazi shit. Like I know The Bright Sessions doesn't lean as hard on the "people with powers are a minority group" thing as say, the X-Men, but it is a present theme, and Owen actively assists and participates in the kidnapping and unethical experimentation upon said minority group. And his motives for that are... career advancement? Impressing Joan? Like I know he likes to focus on the good the AM does for people like Rose, but he focuses on that by ignoring the fact that they're torturing people in a basement until it threatens his job security.

I know Owen does stop what he's doing and comes to Joan and Sam asking them to help him be better, but Damien asks multiple characters what he should be doing to actually connect with people and they all just kinds roll their eyes and go "Well, if you don't know, I can't explain it to you." Explaining it to him should be part of his therapy- which admittedly it's unclear the extent to which none of his therapy actually being helpful is his own fault by forcing Joan to spend the sessions talking about abilities instead of actual therapy, but it still could've been part of her little "you always wonder about the patients you can't help" speech. Is the fact that Owen gets the help he asks for and Damien doesn't just because Owen helps oust the bigger threat of Wadsworth- which doesn't even work? If Wadsworth hadn't made herself immune to abilities and Damien had made her fuck off, would he have been welcomed afterwards?

Don't get me wrong, I don't think Damien necessarily needs a redemption, and I definitely don't think he should be spending more time around the main characters, Mark especially. But Owen's redemtion has always rung a bit false for me and like the reason he died is that killing him was the only way to make him ultimately sympathetic, and I think this is part of why.

If you asked me to rank the villians of Tbe Bright Sessions, Damien would be at the bottom of the list because unlike Wadsworth, Owen, and to an extent Blackwell, he doesn't weild any institutional power over a group of people, and unlike Helen, the only person he's ever killed was in self defense. And while what he did to Neon to enact that self defense was despicable, forcing atypicals to use their abilities in ways they hate is what the AM did to every major character who went there other than Rose. And we know Owen actively participated in that because Mark and Helen know him. And it doesn't feel earned by the narrative to redeem to some extent both Owen and the institution that gives him that power over people, especially when held up in comparison to another villian.

*I do need to reread Some Faraway Place, but to my memory, the "well maybe one day, if he keeps working really hard, he'll be worthy of forming a genuine human connection" story that Damien gets there is still a far cry from Owen becoming a protagonist in The AM Archives

Hello, I have a request idea for you. If you think it's silly or aren't comfortable then please feel free to ignore it. May I please request a dhawan!master x reader request. (Do you remember that scene in the movie labyrinth where the protagonist ate the enchanted fruit and went into that dream state and the song played and she danced with the villian but something caused them to wake and break the dream state?) May I please request the scenario where the reader is trapped on a planet after being thrown out of the TARDIS but the population is under the control of the master. The reader ends up meeting someone from the planet who offers to "help" the reader find the doctor and friends.

How ever the reader doesn't know that this being is actually communicating with the master with a plan to bring the reader to him. After the being has gained the reader's trust the master orders the being to give the reader a piece of food for the reader to eat. The being does this but feels guilt once the reader eats it, they feel odd and walk in a daze before going into the dream like state. Everything then happens like in the above scenario from Labyrinth and once the dreamstate is broken they wake up in a different location.

Sorry just wanted to add to my Labyrinth inspired request, maybe the food item along with the dreamscape causes the reader to forget about the Doctor and their friends and just wanting to be there with the master but they hear/or see something that makes them remember and break the dreamscape. (I just remembered the song that plays in the dreamscape. It's As the World Falls Down by David Bowie)

Everything shined and glittered in the crystal candlelight of the ballroom. Your feet ached in your silk shoes, but almost as if compelled- you couldn’t stop. Others spun around you in flowing gowns painted in watercolor and paper masks. The spinning colors made your head spin along with them. 

Resting your head against the shoulder of your dance partner allowed for some minor relief. 

“Tired already?” His soothing voice inquired.

“Mhmmm, I haven't been sleeping much recently. Have to keep moving, for some reason...”

Rude, you were being so rude to the host of this wonderful party! And you couldn't even remember why you were exhausted in this way. Flashes of needing to keep running towards something, not even stopping to eat flickered in your mind. Dismissing them from your head as soon as they formed. How silly. Why would you ever need to run when you were so safe and comfortable here in his arms?

The gentle swaying and soft music was lulling you closer to sleep. Not quite true dreams, but small daydreams of pomegranates drifting before your closed eyes.

Whispers floating into your ears. 

“I’ll help you find the Doctor.” 

Soft hands guided you from the dance floor. Eyes slightly opened, looking down at your feet to avoid tripping over your gown. It was breathtakingly gorgeous. You must have borrowed it as you didn’t remember owning a gown like this.

You found yourself sitting on a regal couch. Gilded in gold, plush pillows providing comfort. Head finding its way to his lap, cocooned in blankets by the other guests. A hand finding its way to your hair.

“Is there anything else your human will require, Lord Master,” a voice only slightly louder than a whisper broke through your haze.

“If it would not ruin everything I would get up and choke the life out of you for waking them up,” the now familiar voice of the Master growled. “That slightly drugged haze could have lasted another hour if you hadn’t mucked it up.”

Attempting to fight against the blankets holding you down was a failed task. As reluctant as you could be to leave the comfort and warmth of blankets on a normal morning, these were refusing to let you move. Squirming only made your predicament, your knowledge of how much of a hostage you were, grow.

“Shhhh, sh, sh, shhh. No need to fret dear, your Master has you all safe and comfy,” his voice teased.

“What have you done to me,” you growled.

His wicked smile only served to enrage you.

“You’re about as ferocious as a declawed kitten, pet. Now I suggest you stay nice and docile in my lap until the Doctor has been taken care of.”

What Do You Mean We Met Him Before He Got Punted, MAME?!

I was today years old when I realized Gun was in ep 10 of LITA!

I can't believe it completely slipped my mind for nearly two years!

like, I remember this scene so well, yet I had no idea who these guys were! I just thought they were characters from another MAME book and just made a cameo for the novel readers! like those guys in at the end of ep 5!

Seriously though, remember those dudes?

It's so funny, they're given this badass slow-motion entrance with Chai, who did actually do things(a dude who absolutely slayed btw). only for them to have no part in the show and don't even SAY ANYTHING! They were even in the opening credits, and what do they do? NOTHING! I don't even know their names! lol!!! I thought I heard they were characters in another MAME book, but I don't even have that proof! So Who Are They!? LOL!!

Anyway, when I first watched ep 10, I thought Lord S*x Crimes and his little Wormtail were just throwaway characters to reference another novel. They had so little effect on me I didn't even remember their faces when they came back in ep 13. God! My PhayuRain Bias was so big, I didn't even bother paying attention to the characters around the PrapaiSky plot!

Looking back at it, I missed so many PrapaiSky plot-related details it's insane! Like I can see how even in the beginning, before we even know their deal, just how much Gun GENUINELY HATES Pai

Like, look at this psychopath narcissist, or whatever he is just barely mask his emotion and tone behind words of modesty.

The way he barely makes eye contact with him like the jealous b*tch he is with his arms crossed, like having to be respectful toward Prapai makes him want to jump off a cliff.

(and Prapai barely gives him enough recognition to point out the fact that he's lost to him before while putting on his pretty sh*t-eating grin like the lovable scamp he is. Then when they leave just completely wipes their conversation from his memory like I did two years ago. lol)

I may have not talked about this before, but I am very open about how Gun is an arrogant Dumbass who makes way too convoluted of plans to commit a second-second s*x crime against his ex, and idk, embarrass Prapai? like I said, he's everywhere and those goons of his should have thought twice before going along with his way too convoluted plan to get away with.

But regardless of his stupidity, which makes him even better to hate, he also fits so well with the MAME Trend of Antagonists committing bodily harm to people because they feel insecure and are put in place by objectively way more competent men.

Such great acting from the dude who plays Gun. You can feel how pathetic yet also how silently enraged this dude is. and I love to hate a Villian who doesn't say his hatred out loud, but instead gives you enough passive clues through body language etc, (even if its only noticed a second time around), just how much the protagonist gets on his nerves. Give this man more roles, cause he's so good!

But please tell me if you guys also forgot they were in ep 10, cause I think I'm the only one and I'm embarrassed!

Listening to Friends at the Table 's Media Club Plus and was ruminating on about how Jack has been picking up on how Hunter X Hunter will very frequently jump into the subjectivity of characters that are not the protagonists. And then it occurred to me that that's actually something that's really common in shonen manga and anime. Like one of the classic overdone jokes about DBZ is about how often they cut away to other characters reacting to Goku, and jokes aside I legitimately think that Dragon Ball and most other simply do not inhabit the subjectivity of the main character very often.

I recently came across the bit from a reader q&a where Eiichiro Oda of One Piece talks about how he always tries to avoid giving Luffy thought bubbles because Luffy "thinks out loud" and "acts before he thinks" so we've got a series we never get the protagonist's internal monologue but we will get internal monologue from antagonists pretty frequently.

Also the villians in op also tend to get a lot more external dialogue in fights than the protagonists, save for Usopp probably.

I think this is tied up with some of the core appeals of the shonen battle genre. A big part of the joy in these series is to be surprised by the protagonist pulling out some impressive feat or new ability or transformation and seeing the previously insurmountable antagonists be as surprised as we the viewers are is hype as hell. I feel like I can think of tons of times in Bleach or Naruto or any of there other dozens of shonen battle anime where we get a lot of cut aways of villains being shocked by protagonistic bullshit. At the same time it's really interesting how often these manga that are not especially morally complex will have the view identify with subjectivity of the bad guy who we want get their asses beat.

I do think Hunter X Hunter is exceptional in how willing it is to launch into long explanations from side characters or narratorial voice. In terms of stuff I've read later Jojo is one of the few things that holds up to HxH in that regard.

Still, it's a super interesting topic and makes me wanna revisit manga and anime I probably haven't thought that deeply about with this framing in mind.

Before reading A Dragon in Shining Armour I had thought of the Royal Knights as villians especially from watching Data Squad but on reading you fanfic I have fallen in love with them and glad that they all get the attention they all deserve.

Haha, I don't blame you! It's crazy to think that when I started ADiSA in 2011, the Royal Knights had only ever had villainous appearances (in Savers/Data Squad, X-Evolution, Frontier, etc.) It really wasn't until Cyber Sleuth that Bandai started pushing the Royal Knights as a group as protagonists (and, even then, it was only half of them.) I guess there was the XW manga around that time too, though I still have yet to read that. I remember when I was planning ADiSA, I had a few goals in mind, and one of them was to portray the Royal Knights as heroes, because it felt like such a novel concept at the time, haha. They've certainly had a rebranding since then!

love it when people throw out 34 issues worth of comics because the writer gave the protagonist ONE (1) trait that they disagree with. yeah, let’s ignore the message about hope, trust and willingness to help that is quintessential to dick grayson’s character because seeley made dick have too many girlfriends. that alone makes everything dick does during those 34 issues ooc. yes, seeley’s grayson run was awful and objectified dick way too much, but how about we actually condemn seeley’s nightwing’s run for its actual sins. like for example, the vaguely leftist villian that has some points but also decides to kill puppies which means he’s evil? or abandoning dick’s plot with the run-offs by the end by making them more of shawn’s support cast? and yeah, also the plot with huntress because that was really dumb, im not defending that.

new ideas

So, I've thought about new things to write about for once that's not the Harry Potter world I've been writing since I was 12. (Which kinda gives context to why my world is a bit weird, eh?)

There's my Who Killed Markiplier story where I made the district attorney more of a character. An OC really. And it is interconnected between multiple Markiplier worlds he did.

There is also the OC x Ron I've been considering making. Make a different version of these guys. Make Ron different than how I usually make him personality-wise. Make Harry a transwoman.

My omori au that I've been considering could be good. A time travel fix it sort of. I've been also considering a lot of neat headcanons as well for it.

I could rewrite a My Hero Academia story where Uraraka is the protagonist instead of Midoryia. I even thought about how cool she'd be as a villian, which I think could be explored.

Idk I have a lot of ideas!
