A few weeks ago I played and finished a video game that became one of my favorites : Haven. You play a couple deeply in love with each other, who fled their planet to be able to stay together. And, good point, you can choose what kind of couple : f/m, f/f, m/m.

Of course, I chose 2 girls and I loved to follow Kay and Yu in their exploration and adventure to be free. And they often jump on each other for a passionate kiss... So of course, I had to try to draw that with CaitVi! 😆

Since you're now playing BG3, I have to know, what quote would the characters say whenever MC asked them to stay behind in camp (swapping them out of their party)? :3c

Trouble: "What?? You're joking, right? What the Hael am I going to do around here, sit with my thumb up my arse? :("

Tallys: "I'll wait here. Be careful out there."

Shery: "*breath of relief* Oh, good. --I mean!! Um, well, it's probably for the best... but please take care!"

Riel: "Yes, I concur. I'll run things from our base of operations here." *he can only soothe his pride by acting like he's in charge of things back at camp LOL*

Red: "All right, if you're sure. I guess I could go take a look at those ruins I saw over there..."

Ayla: "WHAT. But there's nothing to do around here! ...FINE. I guess I'll just sit around here and eat dirt or something." <- stolen directly from Karlach but it fits something Ayla would say so well that I couldn't resist lol

Briony: "! But I wanted to... *crestfallen* ...Okay. 🥺"

Lavinet: "Hm, if you're sure, darling. Come find me when you change your mind!"

Halek: "Great. I'm going to go take a nap."

Okay... I don't know how to explain or articulate how much I love Fields of Mistria?! As a kid raised on Harvest Moon Ds, then Story of Seasons, then Stardew, then Sunhaven, and etc... I think this game is the one!

Life!

IT FEELS ALIVE! The game has so much breath of love and care, and it feels like a game made by people who really love these games. The character's change or alter their thoughts by whats happening around them. People get excited when you donate to the museum. People talk about completed requests, and details everywhere!!

ConcernedApe with Stardew was amazing and brought so many people into this genre and I am loving seeing all the new little farmers, fishers, craftsman, and everyone else join!!

In December of last year, @mabbees and I gave a talk at Nerd Nite Tokyo about a genre of games that have been called "desktop simulators" or "UI games"—essentially, a narrative fiction that takes place entirely within an interface, whether it be a smartphone, an old school Mac, or an imaginary interface in hypnospace.

We called these types of games "Interface Dramas," as in, "telling dramatic stories through the use of interfaces."

We think this should be its own defined genre and should be something games can be tagged as on Steam, just like "point-and-click adventure" games or "story-rich" games.

Check out the transcript of our talk—it goes over what interface dramas have in common with other adjacent genres such as interactive fiction, visual novels, simulation games, and alternate reality games, and what makes them different.

please tell me there's somthing we can do about unity. Do we e-mail game comapnies to get them to file lawsuits? do we protest? what can we do? The last thing I want is for a bunch of games to become lost media because of a companies greed. I don't want to just lie down and brace for the worst on Jan 1st.

I just wanted to say that I am only a little bit into Sun Haven, and it's buggy and far from perfect, but I love how they approached the player's gender.

When you create a character, you choose clothes and hairstyles and a name, but you never specify a gender. Your character's gender is whatever you want it to be in your head and is never addressed in the game. You can date anyone of any gender. NPCs don't use gendered words to address you and on the rare occasions pronouns come into it, it defaults to they/them.

The game seems to be running on the idea that the player's gender is no one else's business, and I kind of love it. Highly recommended for all my nonbinary friends who are sick of having to choose a gender they don't identify with to play a game.
