Happy Halloween! I wanted to draw my comfort characters in costumes for the spooky season, so here it is! Probably my biggest piece of art I’ve ever done.

Who is Gambit, and what happened to him?

❝Have you ever heard the concept of swap universes? I'm sure you've seen a few of the common ones. Sonic fills Shadow's shoes, or Amy's, so on and so forth, and vice versa. Well, Gambit was a Rouge Sonic. Crazy, right? Sneaker boots, designer belt, fancy red suit coat and everything. Guy had the whole nine yards.❞

❝Yeah, he was a Freedom Fighter. But it was more like he was part of the group for the same reasons why Rouge would join. He had ties with both them and G.U.N., was playing double agent for his own singular goal. I guess that's why he was a better guy than the ruler of Mobius there— Princess Nicole or whatever. Anyways, he and I got on like magnets to a fridge. He was real cool like that. We were... friends, y'know. Good friends. It was nice.❞

❝We made plans. Talked about seeking out the multiverse's treasures together. Even the Doctor had an affinity for him from the little they spoke. But of course, when the Freedom Fighters tried me for "treason"— in huge air quotes—, Gambit had to play along... that time, though instead of me having to bust out on my own, he came and got me. If only that didn't come at the price of his identity being discovered. Sonic's specialty never was subtlety, after all. He was gonna escape with us— but they had us surrounded. There was barely enough room for one of us to escape, provided the other gave themselves up as a distraction. He made a decision in that moment that only Sonic The Hedgehog was capable of... and pushed me on. I did what my big brother said; I ran, and I never looked back. As for what happened to Gambit after that...❞

❝...Well, there was a reason that version of Knothole was called Hangman instead.❞

Strange Way of Life and housekeeping stuff

I was finally able to see SWOL on the big screen. I want to talk about all the beautiful things about it (other than Pedro).

But let me get my negative experience off my chest. Perhaps this is something that is more reflective of people of certain age, but I feel as though if you're going to see a movie then maybe you should know what it's going to be about. A general idea as it were. Media regarding SWOL has been pretty forthright about this movie being representative of the LGBTQ community.

So it really makes me fume when people in an audience leave a movie after seeing Pedro's beautiful, beautiful bare derriere appear on screen. Yes, this happened at the showing I went to. It was myself and an elderly couple, who walked away shaking their heads and laughing (in discomfort I suppose?) However I also know I live in a place that has become increasingly more right wing and unsafe for members of the LGBTQ community. It's terrible and I hate it.

That being said, I thought it was beautiful. Almodovar created such a deep story, with complex characters with a complex history. If you are familiar with Almodovar's films then you know that they leave you with a lot to sit with and think about. What perhaps was so striking to me, was that the characters were decidedly not two-dimensional, not even Joe (George Steane) - Silva's son. Almodovar, along with the really great performances came together to show a little snapshot about how wonderful, beautiful, and terrible humans can truly be.

Edit to add: I know why they left, they were homophobes and scared and bigoted against anything that doesn’t match their social construct of what is right.

Additionally, I've been trying to update a couple things to provide a better experience here for y'all. Because this is my secondary blog, I can't reply from here which is lame. So I changed my main account to exquisiteserotoninreplies so you know it's ya girl replying to you in the comments. I'm also trying to gradually add all my fics here to my AO3 account HERE I have not added my Dave fics there, but they will be added soon. There are several chapters for both, so it will take a little longer.

Also, asks and messages. I would love to interact with all you beautiful Pedro (and Oscar!) fans out there. I have always been a bit apprehensive about doing asks because I am scared I can't possibly live up to the requests. That being said, I think I am going to open my asks. It will give me a challenge to get me to build and flex my writing muscles. But also, know I 'm kind of a chronic overthinker and care far too much about my writing, so my turn around time might not be the fastest (this in addition to the fact that I also have a family). But please reach out. I don't bite! 💜

Just wanted to draw Pippen again. I’m slowly getting better at drawing her show-accurately. Also I didn’t draw the background lel, I just took a screencap from the show to save time.

So what was tails and marines story?

❝Marine? That's a name I haven't heard in a long time... it still sounds just as pretty as the day I heard it. Feels like a lifetime ago, but I still remember everything so clearly.❞

— ;; VOICE SURPRISINGLY GENTLE AND WELCOMING, it's obvious this is a blatant depart from his typical saturnine tone. Twinkling in normally dead eyes compliment the way he seems to entirely shift, perking up with a brand of long-discarded happiness he'd since learned to stow away.

❝Springtime on Southern Island in some faraway version of the Sol Dimension... she was a teacher's assistant at the schoolhouse, I was lost and asked for help. We got to talking, made plans, and she scolded the children for giggling at us— guess they kinda got it before either of us even knew.❞

— ;; TAPPING AWAY ON COMPUTER KEYS, strings of byzantine code fill a dark screen up. Seemingly working away on something, but only half-mindedly, as eyes wander around the room, assisting in his recount.

❝Spending an afternoon together turned into two, then five... before long, we were pretty much inseparable. We'd take walks on the beach, tried dancing once or twice and ended up sore 'cause we both had two left feet, went adventuring with the kids. She took me sailing, I took her flying. Some nights she wouldn't even go home, and some we fell asleep talking on the phone all night. I guess the romance was kinda gradual in that way; we both just sorta knew what we wanted even if we were super awkward about it. If Sonic were there, I'd have said life was perfect.❞

— ;; CRESTFALLEN GRIEF GRADUALLY OVERTAKES SUNNY features the longer he recalls a past seemingly so convivial, as digits rest dully over dusty keys. Abruptly relinquishing his seated position, visibly growing doleful, he paces towards the workbench, giving his hands busywork by putting together stray parts.

❝One afternoon I went out there and saw she was out on a boat with the kids. She waved to me from out at sea, and in that moment when I considered staying there with her forever... of course Marine knew about my situation, but we never thought too deeply about it. Not when it seemed like we had our whole lives to spend together. Not until the day the Doctor told us he'd solo completed the machine, I mean. I thought about it a lot. I wanted her to come with, but it wasn't in the cards. Put it off for days, until he finally told me he was leaving that night, with or without me. I had to choose moving closer to reuniting with my brother, my best friend, or staying in a happily ever after with the person who had become just as close, if not even closer, with me.❞

— ;; PIROUETTING HALFISH ON SCUFFED SNEAKERS, a look of dejection having ultimately befallen him, he finally lets his hands limp at his sides, lowering his eyes alongside them to stare at the cold concrete of the autoshop's floor.

❝...She understood. Maybe a little too much, which made me feel even worse. But what hurt the most was the way she took my hands in hers, kissed me one last time, and told me when I find Sonic, I'd better come back for her. That she'd wait the rest of her life for me if she has to. Because it was just so unabashedly real, so Marine. Come back for her... right. As the person I am today? I wasn't good enough back then, but now...❞

— ;; PURSING, BITING QUIVERING LIPS, GLAZING eyes blinking frenetically to dissipate any sadness that threatens to paint his face with streaks of clear blue. Briskly whipping back around to continue his work, he lowers his voice. Right back to that drab, hopeless pitch that follows him around endlessly.

❝Now I'm not good at all.❞

Collection Spotlight: Ricky Martin - Livin' La Vida Loca CD Single (1999)

Of course, this song has been in my life for 25 years (my grandma had a HUGE crush on Ricky Martin back in the day) but I really started to appreciate it again in the last few years and now it is one of my most favorite songs. So, when I found the CD single in the 99c bin, I just had to have it! It contains a Spanish version as well, which sounds very weird to my ears that are used to the English version. I really like the design of the cover as well, with Ricky's photo extending into the white border. Very cool!
