After an intense new moon day I needed a walk & to "accomplish" something. It felt really good to set up a shelf of herbal offerings in my art studio 🍃 A seemingly little task that took alot of preparation and overcoming limiting beliefs to achieve. I tried to work more but a wave of tiredness overcame me. Instead of pushing myself, I smiled and asked myself "what do you need?" A vision of rose bath came and I put down my work to journey home. Which in the end was the biggest accomplishment I could ask for. Choosing a nurturing task over tangibly productive one sounds like an no-brainer but self-care hasn't been easy for me. I spent alot of my life overworking and tending to the needs of others before myself *Insert trauma response self analysis 🌸 Its taken alot of inner work and the deepening of my relationship with the plant world to not only remember what feeling nourished feels like but also to prioritize feeling good. Sooo I hear we teach what we needed to learn??? 😉 I make offering to support the rituals of self-care cause I know how hard it can be and my intention is to encourage folks to nurture themselves just a little bit more. It brings me so much joy when I hear stories of folks being nourished and moving towards harm reduction in their lives! Throwback to the last time I participated in c*n*d* day. My mentor called to announced we were setting up a trading post right beside the festivities. I wore a shirt that read "Fund art not war". The preteen drummed on stage. I spent the whole day talking about plant medicine & healing or relationship with trade. I think that was five years ago? I decided that forever more this will be the only way I will participate in these types of events.. Honestly I was sick for the first time in a long while yesterday. So I spent some of the day reading others people's posts. I was really disappointed by alot of the white guilt insight posts and sudden interest in "cancelling canada day" hashtags. Many from people who I have witnessed direct racism from or within their institutions/ companies. The way people green wash their buisness they are now indigenous washing. Umm hello I see you. I remember when I asked how you felt about having Indigenous consultation with our project and you talked about the whole nation just being drunks in your town. I remember when someone asked your school's founder the names of his "Indigenous teachers" and he said it doesn't matter if he names them or not. I remember being at your house and attempting to explain when many Indigenous herbalist don't use alcohol and so I don't think it should be the only way taught to use certain herbs and you just laughed. I remember asking you if you had consulted locals about selling their foods and you said..this is the land of abundance. I'm hoping your mind it opening up a bit and your not just going with a trend. I'm hoping that you are seeing your privilege. I'm hoping you will see that your Mirco aggressions are hurtful. I'm hoping you have get some real teachings. I'm hoping others will make new memories with you. I'm really hoping your getting on board with Indigenous led movements.... I could go on & on...
