'Apples as architecture' is one of the most abstract paintings. The reoccurring theme of mountains appears on the paintings, but it is incorporated into a new context. A most interesting conversation yesterday between @NjidekaAkunyiliCrosby and author & writer @SiddharthaMitter about Njideka’s work and her series of portraits “The Beautyful Ones”, on the occasion of the publication of the accompanying monograph published by @VictoriaMiroGallery on the occasion of the exhibition at #VictoriaMiroGallery in Venice concurrent with this year’s #VeniceBiennale #MayYouLiveInInterestingTimes #SiddharthaMitter, who authored a new essay for the book reflected with Akunyili Crosby on the series’ complex history and weaved together the social, cultural, personal, and political strands of its making. For her ongoing series “The Beautyful Ones”, #NjidekaAkunyiliCrosby paints portraits of children, including members of her own family, derived from personal photographs. More recently, the series has focused on images taken during her frequent visits to Nigeria, where she lived until the age of sixteen. Do Ho Suh’s first exhibition with Victoria Miro features new fabric sculptures conceived especially for the galleries, including a walk-through configuration of Hubs, and a range of his works on paper. Exhibited for the first time are works created by a new process in which Suh’s signature architectural pieces are compressed into two-dimensional ‘drawings’. . Grant Dudson: . I visited this installation last week. It's absolutely worth seeing and an interesting way to represent a space within a space. I recall one guy saying that he just loved being inside the structure. It was like a therapy to him and I understand why. Do we want to brainstorm in a grey room or do we fancy a colourful space like this one? Spaces have the ability to inform our mood. I intend to see more of this inside working environments moving forward.
