For over 100 years Blackwell Academy has been an academic oasis for art and science, with diverse students from around the world seeking to change the world and their communities.

Nestled in Arcadia Bay, Oregon, the quaint fishing town offers a peaceful atmosphere for budding academics.

Our History

In 1910, Jeremiah Blackwell founded the academy, striving for excellence among the student body. Since then, his statue now resides at the front of the main building bearing our motto, "The future needs excellence."

In 1998, The Prescott Foundation, donated the dormitory building to Blackwell. Allowing students from all walks of life to attend our prestigious academy.

In 2010, the Prescott Foundation, once again made another generous donation. Resulting in us being able to do a complete overhaul of our curriculum and allowing us to introduce a brand new two-year extended senior program.

Meet Your Principal

Principal Raymond Wells, has worked in Blackwell Academy's halls for eight years now. As a Blackwell graduate himself, he hopes current and future students find success just as he did.

In 2008, Wells, was awarded, 'Most Distinguished Principal' (MDPA), by The United Prestigious Private School Institution (TUPPSI). An award given to the most dedicated and hardworking principals in the United States of America.

The Bigfoots

Who stomps? Bigfoots stomp! The Blackwell Bigfoots have been a part of the Academy's legacy since 1919 (then the Fishermen).

In 2004 and 2011 the Bigfoots were runners-up and in 2007 and 2008 they earned champions. Go Bigfoots!

The Otters

The Otters have been making a big splash in our waters since 1961. What started out as a small club turned into a successful and dedicated team that has won several awards since.

In 2012, they won champions against the Arcadia Bay High Sharks.

The Vortex Club

The Vortex Club is one of the oldest, most durable and influential social groups at Blackwell Academy. It originally started in the 1980's as a new wave rebellion against forces of the Reagan era and acted as a safe haven from peer pressure.

Students involved in the club are encouraged to participate in many of the volunteer programs and social events funded by the organization.
