Paleontologists have uncovered dozens of fossils in northern B.C., only one of which came from a dinosaur that was previously known to that area. Victoria Arbour, curator of paleontology at the Royal B.C. Museum, said it was her team's third time to the Spatsizi Plateau Wilderness Provincial Park, about 200 kilometres south of the B.C.-Yukon border. The area is rough terrain, so the team has to be flown in by helicopter. Usually, well-preserved dinosaur bones are found in deserts, where rocks are exposed, but Arbour said that on this particular mountain, her team hit the "mother lode of fossils."

Meiolaniidae
So honestly I'm relatively new to digital painting. I sketched a little here and there, made skeletals, but actual painting I've done very little. But I ended up putting this together for my work on the Wikipedia page for meiolaniid turtles. (Yes the Ninjemys colours are a reference to it being named after the TMNT)
I've rambled a bit about them before, but basically, meiolaniids are weird stem-turtles thought to be outside the two main modern groups we have. They were decently large animals, their shells alone range from 1 meter to 2 meters in length (3 to 6ft I believe?), they were land animals, had some crazy horns and tails that were encased in spiky armored rings and tipped with a tail club. Here some photos with paleontologist Victoria Arbour, a Ninjemys tail club photographed by Serjoscha Evers and a Meiolania tail club illustrated by W.H. Wesley.
They were found throughout almost the whole Cenozoic, with the oldest form dating to the Eocene of South America and the most recent ones living from the Pleistocene to Holocene in Australia and on various South Pacific Islands. They are honestly pretty cool animals and super underrated, which is why I decided to give their wikipedia pages upgrades in the first place. Which also meant doing a bunch of other illustrations (that I was more in tune with) and pulling a bunch of public domain photos and putting them on wikimedia. Here some skeletals and charts I made, open the last pic, it shows multiple different Meiolania species atop each other.
The results were pretty mixed tbh. Some of the most recent forms, Gaffneylania, Warkalania and even Ninjemys had relatively little to write about. But things were more exciting with Niolamia (if you remember my rant about its messed up history). Meiolaniidae itself was just a big summary of all the other stuff, but easily the most extensive was Meiolania itself, which took AGES to research and put togehter. Tho I'm pretty happy with the result. Here's a little side by side, old and new.

In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Blathers the museum keeper (and the museum's only living dinosaur) shares a dinosaur fact every time you give him a fossil. When presented with an Ankylosaurus fossil, he will proudly exclaim that, beyond merely defending itself, Ankylosaurus may have actually hunted down predators in its range.
Is this a theory based on evidence, or mere speculation? I know it's not entirely unprecedented for dinosaurs (my crow neighbors mob predators in their vicinity) but I need to know if I can go sharing this information around or cool it until we know more
Not really based on anything in terms of evidence, so unclear. That said, it seems likely ankylosaurs evolved the club to fight each other, not predators! Look up Victoria Arbour’s work on the subject

The Ankylosaur’s Tail-Club Wasn’t Only Swinging at T. Rex

The Ankylosaur’s Tail-Club Wasn’t Only Swinging at T. Rex
A dinosaur named for a demon dog in “Ghostbusters” had a sledgehammer attached to its rear. A new study found it could both shatter shins and woo potential mates.
To ward off supersized predators, many herbivorous dinosaurs were biologically armed to the teeth. Some had skulls studded with horns, while others had tails bristling with spikes. But few matched the arsenal of ankylosaurs, a group of herbivores that peaked in diversity during the Cretaceous period. Most of the ankylosaur’s body was encased in bony plates that jutted out into jagged points, and some lugged around a sledgehammer-like tail club capable of delivering a bone-cracking blow.
Because of their seemingly indestructible nature, paleoartists and researchers alike have spent decades hypothetically pitting these plant-powered tanks against tyrannosaurs and other apex carnivores. However, predators may not have been the only creatures absorbing their batterings.
In a study published Wednesday in the Biology Letters, researchers analyzed the anatomy of one of the world’s most complete ankylosaur skeletons. They discovered several broken and healed armor plates concentrated around the creature’s hips that lacked any clear signs of disease or predation. Instead, the armor appeared to have been splintered by another ankylosaur’s club.
“The injuries are right where you’d expect two battling ankylosaurs would break things,” said Victoria Arbour, a paleontologist at the Royal BC Museum in British Columbia and an author of the study.
The exquisitely preserved ankylosaur skeleton, which sports a full suit of armor plates called osteoderms, was accidentally unearthed in 2014 by commercial fossil hunters excavating a nearby tyrannosaur in Montana’s Judith River Formation. When the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto acquired it, the bulk of the creature’s skeleton was still entombed in a 35,000-pound slab of sandstone, leaving just its skull and tail free.
Based on the ankylosaur’s skull and its club at the end of a thorny tail, it was clear the animal was a unique species. The dinosaur’s horn-encrusted head reminded Dr. Arbour, then a postdoctoral researcher at the Ontario museum, of the gnarly mug of Zuul, the terror dog from the film “Ghostbusters.” In 2017, she and her colleague christened the new species Zuul crurivastator, or “Zuul, the destroyer of shins.”
The rest of Zuul’s body remained trapped in the stone for more than a year as fossil preparators painstakingly chipped away at the rock. They eventually uncovered fossilized skin dotted with osteoderms. As they worked their way toward Zuul’s backside, they discovered that some spikes along the animal’s hips were missing their tips and that the bony sheaths encasing these osteoderms had broken and healed into blunt points.
Zuul crurivastator’s injuries, with injured spikes in red.Royal Ontario Museum
Because the damaged plates were clustered around Zuul’s hips, Dr. Arbour and her colleagues began to question whether they were defensive scars from a failed attack. Bipedal hunters like Gorgosaurus, a lanky cousin of the Tyrannosaurus rex, would have attacked Zuul from above instead of smashing into its flank. And few spots were as unappetizing as Zuul’s spike-covered haunches, which were within striking distance of its club.
Instead, Dr. Arbour and her team concluded that the placement of the battered plates, along with an absence of bite marks, were consistent with a crack from another Zuul’s tail club. Because the damaged osteoderms were at different stages of healing, it was likely that this ankylosaur took its fair share of thumpings 76 million years ago.
The authors proposed that the injuries occurred during combat between Zuul and its brawny brethren. Like today’s head-butting bighorn sheep or neck-swinging giraffes, competing ankylosaurs may have established dominance by landing armor-shattering body blows with their tail clubs.
The new evidence is essential for studying the behavior of these classic, yet enigmatic, dinosaurs. “Ankylosaurs left no living descendants, so we have no living analogues to learn what ancient ankylosaurs did,” said Jordan Mallon, a paleontologist at the Canadian Museum of Nature in Ottawa, who was not involved in the study. “This is the first example where we’ve been able to marshal some evidence to support that these things were actually using their tail clubs to smash into one another in a ritualistic way.”
And this practice might have driven the evolution of gnarlier tail clubs, much like how modern elk employ their elaborate antlers not only to tussle with one another but also to impress prospective mates. “The reason that they have a tail club is probably not driven by predation, but more for intraspecific combat,” Dr. Arbour said. “It’s more sexual selection than natural selection.”
While these clubs may have evolved to help ankylosaurs bash each other, they were still capable of delivering a debilitating blow below a tyrannosaur’s knee. “The destroyer of shins is still quite apt,” Dr. Arbour said.

Kurt walks into his house in a daze. After being at Blaine’s, going back to school seemed wholly inappropriate, so he’d spent the afternoon wandering the mall. Not really looking at anything, but just giving his feet something to do.
He walks into the living room to find his dad sitting on the couch, “Wanna tell me why the school called to tell me you weren’t there this afternoon?” He asks.
Kurt sighs as he sits down on the couch opposite his dad. He lays his head back and looks at the ceiling, “Not really.”
“So it wasn’t a mistake? My boy, who has never skipped a day in his life, suddenly decides to take an afternoon off? And isn’t going to explain why?” Burt asks.
Kurt shrugs. He doesn’t want to lie to his dad but he also doesn’t know what to say to explain, “Were you with that Blaine kid?” Burt asks.
Kurt looks over at his dad, sharply, and Burt seems to bolster himself, “Look, I get it. Hormones are a big thing at your age. But you can’t…”
“Oh my God, Dad, please, stop.” Kurt moans, covering his face, “I...wasn’t with Blaine.” He says, through his hands, and figures he’s not lying. He hadn’t been with Blaine all afternoon and definitely not in the way his dad is implying.
Burt coughs and nods, seeming to relax after determining his son wasn’t off having an illicit afternoon rendezvous, “Right. Okay. But you won’t tell me where you were?”
Kurt shrugs again, “The mall.” He says. He can tell his dad isn’t happy with the information, but before he can say anything, Kurt beats him to it, “I promise it won’t ever happen again, Dad.” He says.
Burt pouts thoughtfully at his son before nodding, “Considering this is the first time, I will take you at your word. But if this becomes a common thing...” He trails off.
“It won’t.” Kurt assures.
Burt nods again, “All right. Go, do homework or something.” He says, signalling that Kurt is allowed to leave.
Kurt gets up with another sigh, leaving the room and heading to his bedroom. He closes the door behind him and falls onto his bed face down, yelling into his pillow to hopefully relieve the tightness in his chest. It does very little to soothe him, though, and he wiggles around to lie on his back, staring up at the ceiling in the silent room.
What is he going to do?
The responsible thing would be to tell someone about Blaine and Bethany. Blaine is a seventeen-year-old. There is no way he should be in charge of taking care of a nine-year-old, full time, in place of her parents. It’s ultimately unsafe and not to mention completely unfair to both Blaine and Bethany. And did Blaine say they’ve been gone for two years? Since Blaine was fifteen and Bethany only seven?!
No. Kurt has a responsibility to tell an adult about this. He doesn’t care how grown up he feels at seventeen or how capable Blaine thinks he may be, they aren’t adults yet and none of this is right.
Except...Blaine is right. If Kurt tells someone then Bethany would for sure be taken into foster care. Blaine would too, at least until he turns eighteen, and there is a very good chance they wouldn’t get placed together. They’d end up in group homes or foster homes and who knows what would happen to them then. Not to mention the fact that Kurt has said he wouldn’t tell anyone. Kurt Hummel may be a lot of things, but a man who goes back on his word, isn’t one of them.
Kurt muses on what would happen if he didn’t tell anyone. Clearly Blaine is a competent caregiver if he’s managed to keep them afloat for the past two years, and they don’t appear to be struggling financially if the apartment and Blaine’s wardrobe are anything to go by. And if Kurt didn’t tell anyone...what would happen with the two of them? Him and Blaine? Would they remain friends? Kurt’s not sure he could abandon Blaine at this point, not now that he knows the truth. But could there still be room for something more between them? Is he selfish for even still thinking that’s a possibility?
He sighs roughly and gets up from the bed, moving to his bag and grabbing his phone. He’ll make himself crazy thinking about all of this. He needs to talk to Blaine.
He taps his phone nervously as he thinks about what to say. When he lands on something, he quickly types it and hits send before he chickens out and then stares at his phone intensely, waiting for Blaine to respond.
Kurt:
I think we need to talk more. Can I come over?
He feels like he can’t breathe properly until Blaine answers back a minute later.
Blaine:
Sure.
That’s it. Just the one word. But it’s enough. He tells his Dad he’s going to Blaine’s (he doesn’t want to lie) and his dad sighs and waves him off. He gets into the car and, the entire drive over, plans what he wants to say.
-- -- --
“Blaine, what’s going to happen?” Bethany asks after Kurt has left. They’re still curled up on the couch and the room had been silent for the last ten minutes since the sound of the door closing.
Blaine sighs, “I don’t think he’ll tell anyone, Annie.” He whispers. He’s not sure if he’s saying that more for her benefit or his own. He has to believe that Kurt won’t tell anyone about them. There simply isn’t room in his brain, or heart, to allow any other alternative.
“But what if he does?” Bethany says, sitting up and looking at Blaine with frantic eyes, “You always said no one could know, except Trent, otherwise we’d get separated. You can’t leave me, Blaine! You can’t!” She’s full on crying now and Blaine pulls her to him, quickly.
“Hey, hey. Shh.” He soothes, running a hand repeatedly down her head, “That’s not gonna happen. We’re in this together. For life.” He says, repeating the words he’d said to her one night two year ago when this whole thing had started.
Bethany sniffs and brings a hand up to rub her nose, “Promise?” She asks.
“Promise.” Blaine says and hopes with every fiber of his being that he can keep that promise, “Now why don’t you try and go take a nap. You’re still sick, remember?”
“You don’t have to remind me.” She say, pulling away with a sigh and wiping her eyes, “Will you be okay?” She asks and Blaine almost cries at her words. She’s nine and yet she’s making sure he’s okay. His heart breaks for the little girl who hasn’t really gotten a chance to be a little girl in a long time.
He brings a hand up to cup her cheek with a small smile, “Yeah, Annie. I’ll be fine.” He whispers and she nods before getting up and heading back to her bedroom.
When she’s gone, Blaine curls into himself and lets himself cry. He’s not sure he’s crying because he’s sad or because he’s overwhelmed. Probably a little of both in the end but the tears actually feel good as they continue to stream. He’s gotten so good at comforting himself (he’d like to say over the last two years, but in all honesty he’s been learning that trick since he was a small child) that soon he feels like he can breathe a little easier again.
His tears stop and he wipes at his eyes as he straightens up with a nod. His world may be even more off it’s axis than usual, but he still has responsibilities. He gets to work cleaning the apartment; picking up Bethany’s used tissues, cleaning the dishes from breakfast, and dusting. He’ll vacuum later once Bethany is awake. He makes a grocery list and checks through the pile of mail for the bills, setting them aside to be paid later. He checks to make sure they’re stocked up on cold medication, emails Bethany’s teacher from the account he’d set up to act as their parents that she won’t be in the next day, and then emails McKinley from the same account to tell them he’ll be out the next day as well.
He thinks briefly of looking into apartments in another town, another school district, but realizes quickly that leaving wouldn’t erase Kurt’s memory. That if the other boy really was going to tell someone about Blaine’s situation, there wasn’t anywhere Blaine or Bethany could run to escape those consequences. And on the other hand, even with everything that has happened, Blaine doesn’t WANT to leave.
It’s close to five o’clock when he finishes it all and he’s just about to wake Bethany to see if she’d be up for dinner when his cell phone dings with a text.
Kurt:
I think we need to talk more. Can I come over?
Blaine puts a hand over his mouth and stares at his phone for a moment. He honestly didn’t think he’d hear from Kurt so soon, or ever again really, so to have him text mere hours after leaving is a bit of a shock. He knows he owes the other boy some more answers and he’ll give them to him. Anything he needs to do to keep Kurt from telling someone about his situation, but also because he doesn’t actually want to keep anything from Kurt anymore. He didn’t even want to at the beginning, but now that it’s out in the open...he wants to share everything.
Blaine:
Sure.

“Scientists from the Royal Ontario Museum have named a newly discovered dinosaur species after the Ghostbusters villain Zuul. CBC News reports a crew of private excavators accidentally bumped into the well-preserved ankylosaur skeleton while unearthing a nearby tyrannosaurus in the Judith River Formation in Montana. The plant-eating species, officially named Zuul crurivastator, is said to be 75 million years old. Due to the dinosaurs's strikingly similar appearance to Zuul, with its rounded, short snout and horns located behind its eyes, the Royal Ontario Museum's paleontologist and postdoctoral fellow Victoria Arbour and her colleague decided to name it after the villain from Ghostbusters, who originaly inhabits Sigourney Weaver's character Dana before transforming into one of Gozer's hellhounds in the original film. ‘Me and my co-author David Evans were batting around ideas for what to name it, and I just half-jokingly said, 'It looks like Zuul from Ghostbusters,' Arbour said. ‘Once we put that out there we couldn't not name it that.’ Since they were able to retrieve the dinosaur's full skeleton, including the skull, tail, body and preserved soft tissue, the scientists intend to further research and discover more about the new species”, from Ign, link above!

Hey!!! So I went to the Royal Tyrell museum a week ago and noticed these weird lines on the spines of a large hadrosaur and a ceratopsian (I think centrosaurus or pachyrhinosaurus) and I’m really mind boggled as of what they are?? Do you know?
The hadrosaur in question was called Grypho-something…Can’t quote remember.
That would be Gryposaurus!
These structures are actually really fascinating! They’re ossified tendons. That is, they’re tendons that, over time, hardened until they turned into bone. This was most widespread in hadrosaurids, where the ossified tendons would basically span the entire spine, giving them a very small degree of motion in their spines.
Why would this be? Well, hadrosaurids were heavy animals. Plants don’t have all that much nutrients in them, so any animal that’s eating mainly plants has to have a LOT of guts to get nutrients out of them. Add to that the fact that hadrosaurs could get up to 15m/50ft long and that they didn’t have hollow bones....That’s a lot of weight to be hanging from the body. Hadrosaurs were also very capable of standing up on their hind legs and running, so their body had to be able to handle that stress. The solution is to reinforce the spine using tendons that are already there!
Ceratopsians, on the other hand, tend to have them more on their hips. Ceratopsians have crazy strong hips - we’re not exactly sure why, but it seems likely that it would provide strength in pushing contests with other members of their species. The tendons then reinforced the hip in order to counter these stresses.
Ankylosaurids also had ossified tendons, but these were more restricted to the back half of the tail. The reason for these is pretty clear - when you have a club on the end of your tail that you swing around at things, it’s a good idea to give that some strength.

Niolamia is a fascinating turtle. Living during the Eocene (probably), it is one of the earliest known meiolaniids. What makes meiolaniids special is not just that they were sizable land turtles, but two other things 1) The massive horn-like scales, primarily those marked A-C. Niolamia has some of the most impressive ones at that, with the A scale forming an almost ceratopsian-like frill at the back of the head and two large, flattened, side-ways directed horns before said frill. 2) The long tail was armored, covered in bony rings with spikes and in some species even a straight up tail club
The two images above are things I put together for the Wikipedia page of Niolamia. The first shows the growth of the species. The small skull is a juvenile Niolamia, originally described as Crossochelys but synonymized by later researchers. The bigger skull (to scale) is the neotype (or holotype?) of Niolamia. Check out an older post for some history on that. The other is a simple sideview of the skull and lower jaw, nothing too fancy.
The bottom two photos aren't mine but those of Victoria Arbour, but show the weirdness and size nicely. The first image shows Niolamia (right) next to Ninjemys (left). While the second picture shows Ninjemys with as I said Victoria Arbour. Which still gives a good idea of how big these animals heads were.

Top Lawyers In Canada In 2019
Top Lawyers In Canada
Wayne Myles
Counsel, Cox & Palmer, St. John's, N.L. Myles' recent claim to fame is that the $3-billion global merger of Barbados-based Columbus International Inc. with England-based Cable & Wireless Communications PLC.. His M&A expertise, combined with his dedicated customer relationships, haven't only led to the greatest deal in the telecommunications firm 's history, but revealed that significant foreign deals are being deftly managed by an Atlantic Canadian law firm. He also 's also acted as lead counsel and strategic adviser on numerous acquisitions, licensing, and financing of several subsea and terrestrial telecommunications businesses in the global fish processing and marketing industry. Myles also counseled on aviation matters, on many national and international business bankruptcy and restructuring projects and on energy and transport matters. What Republicans needed to state:[An] outstanding attorney with international vision. Huge asset to any transaction.
Louise Arbour
Counsel, Borden Ladner Gervais LLP, Montreal, Que. An international lawyer who has just settled in Canada, Arbour has earned a spot on the Canadian Lawyer's Top 25 Most Influential list again this season. She's a winner of the 2015 Simons Foundation Award, realizing world leaders that form and create an environment for a safer and more just world. Arbour has spoken out against prolonged use of solitary confinement and has been inducted into Canada's Walk of Fame. She's been a Supreme Court of Canada judge, an global war crimes prosecutor, and a law school professor. Her ability to pick up things quickly led her to different roles nationally and internationally. Arbour says economic disparities between and within counties is the number-one inexcusable human rights issue at the moment. Constantly craving fresh and challenging environments, just last year she eventually did something she hadn't ever done: joined a law firm in Montreal where she proceeds to fight for human rights. What voters had to say:Her magnificent contributions speak for themselves. International superstar.
Poonam Puri
Professor, Osgoode Hall Law School, Toronto, Ont. Though Puri may not be involved from the biggest transactions of the year or most publicized lawsuit, her work indelibly shapes the arguments and strategies of many lawyers. Her influence is reflected by the eagerness of the Canadian legal community to listen and react to her perspectives and observations on the current condition of the law and recommendations concerning what can be done to develop a more honest, just, and responsive legal system. She has led research plans including significant corporate securities regulation initiatives in Canada (National Securities Regulator file) and has been appointed by the Ontario Minister of Finance Charles Sousa, as the specialist adviser for its Credit Unions' legislative framework review. She's a respected and popular professor and highly regarded by professionals in the corporate-commercial pub. What Republicans needed to say: Exceptional talent. Unassuming trendsetter. Wise beyond her years. Will be an impact for many years to come on the corporate phase in Canada. Outstanding research and technical skills.
Fred Headon
Assistant general counsel, labour and employment law, Air Canada, Montreal, Que. As chairman of the Canadian Bar Association's Futures Initiative, Headon has given over 25 presentations to lawyers, law professors, professors, librarians, law firm personnel, and regulators from Toronto to Buenos Aires, Victoria to Halifax, in person and online. The Futures report has been released in August 2014 and its own recommendations put Headon squarely in the middle of several important discussions on topics essential to the profession. He continues to lead the Futures steering committee because it now turns its recommendations into actions. Headon is an essential component of the discussion about the future of the profession and he had been the very first in-house counsel to become the president of the CBA. What Republicans needed to say: Brings energy and decency and the smarts to everything he does.
Dawn Devoe
General counsel, World Vision Canada, Toronto, Ont. Devoe is World Vision's key legal advisor because of its Child for Sale advocacy campaign aimed at stopping child labour and human trafficking. As lead counsel for the Canadian discussions regarding World Vision's partnership with the United Nations World Food Programme, she has represented the organization at global partnership meetings in South Africa, Kenya, and the Philippines. This venture accounts for more than $30 million of annual food help programmed through World Vision Canada. With projects in almost 100 countries throughout the world, Devoe oversees a busy legal department and has been able to stay flexible and nimble. What Republicans needed to say: Amazing lawyer and individual. She not only has a passion for the legislation, but also cares deeply for others and demonstrates that in her work. Brilliant legal counsel, very inventive problem solver, capable to integrate legal and taxation laws into a beneficial remedy to all parties.
Frank Iacobucci
Senior counsel, Torys LLP, Toronto, Ont. This heated justice has set the bar for authorities treatment of the mentally ill. His 2014 landmark report summarized 84 sound methods of helping prevent shooting of mentally ill people by the Toronto Police. The execution of the report would go a long way toward preventing catastrophic confrontations between police and emotionally disturbed individuals. Some of the recommendations include the use of body-worn cameras and enhanced use of tasers. The report is a strong message that the status quo is no more okay. As a Torys counselor, Iacobucci is accustomed to advising government and company on important legal and policy issues. What voters had to say: Has anyone actually done more? and Energetic, not ceases.

Easterndaze x Berlin: Hear the new Total Black, EXILES and T+U compilation!
The compilation was inspired by the concept and initiative of Easterndaze festival as for collective collaboration bringing together three different art projects but similar mindsets, geographically, virtually and symbolically. Formed in Montreal, 2012, Total Black is a record label presently based in Berlin releasing noise, industrial, power electronics, and experimental music. Frequently organizing events with disparate but complimentary sounds, showcasing artists and associates of the label from across the world. EXILES is a Budapest-based experimental techno label T+U (Technologie und das Unheimliche) is a Berlin-Budapest-Elsewhere based publishing project and cross-disciplinary movement. T+U aims to circuit the cultural phenomena resulting from the confrontation between the conditio humana and technology by thematic issues and related projects. Regarding to this mission, T+U mediates between cultural technologies within the context of post-digitality and tries to contaminate para-academic thinking with artistic tactics.
The result of this collective brainstorming materialized in a compilation consisting six tracks of unreleased and exclusive materials from the artists and musicians performing at the festival. Released digitally on Bandcamp and on limited tape records of 50 copies.

Oil Thief - Victoria - Oil Thief provided an unreleased track and he is playing new material off his forthcoming new album. The LA based veteran of industrial, techno and power electronics is on Eastern European tour with Jesuve. 5. Fausto Mercier - Daze - Exiles affiliated Hungarian sound designer and producer compresses bass heavy beats with industrial noises to create a massive catharsis of sonic attacks. 6. FROM THE BORDERS Few things feel more ghostly to me than a field that was. Slowly crowded at the edges by evergreens, it's been a good few decades since hay was last cut here. New shoots advancing from the borders like soldiers, we'll eventually be swallowed whole. Victoria Road takes you here, first down a hollow that houses Brown Brook. You can drive a truck to the bottom, not so bad over the rock and gravel, rattling down to the shore. But this last span stays in stead of history, off-road traffic only, up the other side and through the tangled brush. Under arbours of alders and through the scrubby grasses, into the open and down through the woods again. You'll find yourself ducking deadfall, weaving through the bony arms of broken pines, finally reaching a precarious cliffside. There hides the very rotten remnants of a one-room cottage; vacant vacation short-lived and dead a while. The road whispers out at another stream hollow, this one holding a stream with no name. The story loses weight and wanders away, and if you remember yourself when you're missing, you'll find your way back more intact. March 20, 2022 Victoria Harbour, Nova Scotia Year 15, Day 5243 of my daily journal.
