I may have a habit of watching things after their relevant dies. In my defense, it was exam szn. And in TUA's case, the relevance this season clung on was very little, and very precarious. Season 3 was not strong by any means. This final installment, however, cemented the show as just another one-hit-wonder. The quality has deteriorated exponentially ever since the first season.

But damn, this was bad.

The shortest season just isn't short enough. Nothing really happens until episode 5. They could have reduced the whole thing to a 2 hour movie, and perhaps we could have been spared the various writing atrocities this season boasted.

Lila and Five was absolutely unnecessary, and just as disgusting. I don't care if he's fifty-something. To wait until his physical body turned 18 in order to pair him up with a thirty-something Lila is insane. Vile, really.

Speaking of which — Lila did not make any sense this season. Klaus was unsufferable. Luke (or whatever Number One's name is) is so fucking annoying. I pressed fast-forward most times his face appeared on the screen until he disappeared. Disgusting manchild.

Five was never digestible anyway. He just got straight up pukable this season. Ben was fine. Boring though. Victor is a bore as always. Like shut up. You've had five years to go to therapy. Stop crying about your daddy issues god fucking damn.

Alison was toned the fuck down this season. What the hell. Same goes for Diego. They took himbo and just ran with it. I won't complain much because he was the only breath of fresh air this whole season. Probably the only good thing we got from season 4 is shirtless Diego.

Another problem: it was very obvious how they dumbed down certain characters, and forced others into the center. Luke got so much screentime and for WHAT. What did that dull fucker contribute other than look stupid and act like a five year old. It's not cute. It never was.

The powers made no sense. How did Victor go from world-destroyer to can't-take-down-a-bunch-of-Proud-Boys. Why didn't Diego's ability change? Or Lila, or Luke, or Ben?

Why did Alison's ability change, and why did she never use it?

I want to say this was AI-generated. It's more likely it was pure laziness. No-one forced them to make this season — except Netflix's contract.

When El was trying to become Jane, she used Angela as her inspiration.

While it is possible she was moved to the Gown Facility, likely, in fact, based on a convo in NINA, her hair color would not change all the way to dark brown in the consecutive four years necessary to become Killer Ellie, aka the El we see at the very END of NINA who was the HNL Murderer. Since Jane is not Killer Ellie, she can't be El since El's initial flashback is of Killer Ellie pre-NINA

As a blonde (via flashback), Jane Ives is likely El's "opposite" like when Will's eyes changed to symbolize his new personality, or the Blonde Mother pattern, and any number of inter-timeline hair/eyes clues of that nature. Angela fits the bill as an opposite since she is popular and a bully.

Angela likely developed her bullying patterns because of trauma, and I realized that it lines up with the lab, ie: wanting to be the teacher's favorite, so much so that she is paralleled to 002

As @/henrysglock so kindly pointed out to me, Angela's outfit is the inverse of El's. She wears a ring on the opposite finger, a watch not a hairband, same hairstyle as El but with a high pony, etc.

Angela is weirdly obsessed with Hopper. The writers chose for El's school project to be about Hopper, and for Angela to pick on her for this project not once but twice, AND for Angela to bring up Hopper again at the Rink-O-Mania. She then targets El's lack of this supportive father- and I believe this is because whoever adopted Angela isn't like him, or because they are and she feels insecure in maintaining her situation thereof. Either way, growing up with a Brenner and losing Kali make her fixate on someone like Hopper, who El specifically says protected her, a fact Angela points out at the rink.

Angela and Troy, are like, the only bullies who don't get backstory. HOWEVER, Troy got a scene with his mother in ST1, which is already more exposition than Angela, plus if he's actually on the basketball team, then he might get screentime next szn. If Angela is accrual the outlier here, what was the reason? /rhetorical

The fuckin angst potential. I'm biased as fuck and I admit it. Not only that but the narrative potential. The whole point of timeline theory within a show who's meta is about the cycle of abuse and bigotry? The whole Multi Henry thing is meant to show how variables can affect outcome- ie: some Henrys become Vecna. SOME older brothers become like their fathers and others don't. This carries over to SOME Ellies kill more than others (including our lovely leading lady, whose arc about accepting her supposed monstrosity as a part of a whole is looking suspiciously complete) and SOME Ellies become Angelas.

ANGEL. HER NAME HAS FUCKIN ANGEL IN IT. As we know, as "Angel" is the person whom the memory of brings a Curse victim back to reality via the victim's will to live. Victor's Angels are his family members, and Max's are- get this, Lucas and El and her wider friend group. Not only this, but Max sang Madonna's "Angel" in El's bedroom in ST3. I'm not sure what the implication quite is here, if it's more than "She's an alternate timeline version of a girl who is somebody's angel", but I think it had to mean SOMETHING.

I get that!! On the one hand, I'm not 100% sure how exactly how Victor would react if he found out what was really going on, but literally everything else is totally true!

Oversimplifying for sake of yk Getting To The Point does have the unfortunate side effect if Someone's Just Not Covering It.

Basically what I meant here is that Joyce is now in a place emotionally where she CAN do what's necessary, but even her physical means are improved as well, though I didn't elaborate on those since I was simply comparing Joyce with other arcs that funny focus on the latter.

As I said, Joyce's physical means have drastically improved as well! I've seen it pointed out that the Byers now use the same maple syrup as the Wheelers/Sinclairs (don't think about the communication style implications), and Joyce is supporting three teenagers and herself as the only working person in the house (though I think some of Hopper's money was going towards El's physical needs/wellbeing)

I definitely think we SHOULD (will?) Get some sort of Joyce/Lonnie interaction/altercation next szn, and my original ask is just a notice of some fore-shadow-y moments PLUS the Implications of the MF parallel (though I think that the latter stands on its own and I won't harp on it)

It's funny actually, because you're absolutely right. Joyce hits back (see: Kline and the doctors at HNL), and so does Jonathan (see: Steve and the Flayed), but none of them are anywhere near as violent as Lonnie (see: killing animals and abusing children), even when provoked. They can kill, but they exhaust all other options first and only act that way when cornered.

You're absolutely right! The most Will does are range attacks. He shouts, he lights fireworks and launches a couple (but most are thrown by Lucas), and he runs/freezes. Will's not the type to kill, even when cornered. It's just not who he is.

On social media, you don’t have to look long for an edited photo of James Harden in a Miami Heat uniform. Or, scroll a bit further and see a graphic announcing a scholarship offer for a recruit to Alabama or USC. Or follow every Sunday as teams get closer to a top NFL draft pick and their fans imagine Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence in one NFL jersey or another.

It’s always Photoshop SZN somewhere. This year, some of it happens to overlap.

National signing day in college football is Wednesday. NBA trades and transactions are still going as the league begins play next week. The NFL draft is just months away. The jersey swaps, the wild graphics, the memes — they’re all there.

Sometimes these works are wishful thinking. The fan-fiction of an NBA fan imagining a world in which a desired free agent is now wearing the uniform of that fan’s favorite team. Sometimes they are part of an organizational strategy. A modern, visual medium meant to enhance and display a college football powerhouse.

These are, as Samuel Silverman, a former creative director at Ohio State, calls them, “pieces of different aspects of a visual language all come together with a look and feel of one holistic piece.”

These pieces have become an extension of sports fandom, as much a part of modern sports culture as fantasy teams and alternate uniforms. But, make no mistake, they are works of art that can take hours of thought, planning and execution.

“Everything I make, there’s a connection being made to something else, and I think that art is like that in a sense, too,” said Jake Pablo, a graphic design student at Florida Atlantic University. “Usually artists will make something and it’s trying to paint a certain picture, deliver a message in a certain way, and my jersey swaps, my designs, anything I do, I’m trying to convey a message.”

“Today we’re going to set text on fire”

Silverman was a week away from graduating from Ohio State in 2012 and working at a pizza restaurant in Columbus, Ohio, when the school’s department of design got an email from the athletic department looking for graphic design interns. Urban Meyer had been hired as the Buckeyes’ head coach, and the team wanted to revamp its recruiting efforts.

He started by making schedule graphics, then helped establish recruiting graphics for social media as a branding opportunity for football recruits and a staple of recruiting efforts for major college football programs all over the country.

Pablo is a 22-year-old student. He grew up drawing, painting and loving basketball. He is also a massive Heat fan. Pablo made his first design in 2014, during LeBron James‘ final season in Miami.

Since then, he has interned as a graphic designer for the Florida Panthers while also making hype graphics and jersey swaps that have had players such as Victor Oladipo, Bradley Beal and Giannis Antetokounmpo in Heat jerseys.

Ryan Meils studies graphic design at Waukesha (Wisconsin) County Technical College. In a way, at 20 years old, he is part of the second generation of online creators. He took up Photoshop in high school and was drawn to sports by jersey swaps created by media companies and other creators on social media.

“I started off with little sports designs,” Meils said. “I always saw the sports media pages on Twitter or Instagram and saw their jersey swaps. I just found it so cool, and that got me into it.”

Now he has created MLB and NBA crossover jerseys and the logo, uniforms and arena for a fictitious WNBA team in Milwaukee.

They began as artistic children and by teaching themselves to make designs on different platforms and with different software.

Pablo and his friends created YouTube channels in high school, and he wanted to add graphics to video. Like others trying to learn a language, a recipe or a hobby, he sought out online tutorials.

“I wanted to learn how to make [banner artwork],” Pablo said. “So, I would download templates online and basically say they were mine. … They were never really mine, and I wanted to learn how to do that.”

Silverman studied design in college and was well into a job doing graphic art at Ohio State, but growing as an artist still meant learning on the fly.

“While I was at OSU, every day I was going to tutorial after tutorial after tutorial to learn different ways,” Silverman said. “I didn’t have any rhyme or reason to what I was making every day, it was just whatever tutorial I was doing, like, ‘Today we’re going to set text on fire.’

“It was like, ‘Cool, today I’m going to learn that and apply it to the graphic I’m making.'”

As Ohio State took Silverman’s work and launched a whole new way of recruiting that meant prospect-centered media of all kinds — video, printed mail and digital graphics — while also making it about branding for individual recruits.

The branding, according to Silverman, who has done design work for Arizona State and Syracuse, became part of the graphics and showed high school players what that kind of personalized touch could mean for their careers at Ohio State and beyond. Now with “name, image, likeness” legislation being enacted in some states, Silverman said the recruiting graphics help recruits learn what those things are worth.

“We were educating recruits to their personal brand,” Silverman said. “Why that can be a benefit to them. … It’s not just a logo and content and all that but who you are as a person and what you want to do in life.”

Did it work? In Silverman’s time at Ohio State, with Meyer and his successor Ryan Day, the Buckeyes had one recruiting class ranked lower than seventh in ESPN’s recruiting class rankings.

“I’ll retaliate with your favorite player”

Pablo and Meils don’t have a professional reason to do what they do. They aren’t making their living doing these graphics. That doesn’t mean it doesn’t have a purpose for them and their social media following.

“I started the jersey swaps in particular because of all the jersey swaps of Giannis [Antetokounmpo] that other teams have,” Meils said. “I started doing it with other teams’ players because it fits into the story of we want Giannis to stay [in Milwaukee] and I’ll retaliate with your favorite player.”

That’s where, especially in basketball, the art has become an extension of online sports fandom. Fans of teams have factions of online creators pumping out memes, swaps and graphics to show their allegiances. Especially, it seems, fans of the Heat.

“The Heat fans, it’s like a stereotype, they have every NBA star in a jersey swap,” Meils said.

Prior to Harden showing up in graphics in a Miami jersey, Beal, the Washington Wizards‘ star guard, was the prime target for Heat fans online. In 2019, Beal acknowledged noticing those Miami fans.

“It’s a great thing that a lot of people love your game and want you on their team,” Beal said on NBCSports.com.

That’s where it gets fun for these artists. Every team has its social media feed where fans get videos, graphics, interviews and coverage. Fans are getting instant access to their teams. Silverman noted this access is “a level of connection and vulnerability that hasn’t been seen before.”

“I call it ‘Heat Propaganda,'” Pablo said. “You’re pushing a narrative to create this storyline for a player to come to the Heat. That has to matter. It has to.”

And the creators such as Pablo, Silverman and Meils get to influence the online community. Whether it’s showing a recruit a version of what his future could be if he chooses a particular school or creating a fictional super team on a graphic, the creators are making art to be a part of their teams. When big news happens, including when, on Tuesday, Antetokounmpo signed a $228 million extension to stay in Milwaukee, they get to gloat about it.

“The countermeasures to all the Giannis jersey swaps worked,” Meils said Tuesday. “And it feels great to know that Bucks fans won the Photoshop war.”

Loads of Tottenham Hotspur fans have been reacting on Twitter after TranSpurs relayed a story where goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga suggested Boca Juniors midfielder Jorman Campuzano as a potential signing for the north London outfit.

The Spurs stopper was being interviewed by radio station 94.7FM, with the quotes published by TYCsports.

Gazzaniga said: “If Mourinho asks me for a reinforcement of Argentine soccer, I tell him to bring Jorman Campuzano.”

Obviously, it is unlikely that Jose Mourinho will ask one of his players for some transfer tips, but it is interesting that the former Southampton keeper has suggested a defensive midfielder.

It is a position where Tottenham look to need reinforcements, with Victor Wanyama leaving for America and the likes of Harry Winks, Eric Dier and Tanguy Ndombele not really being up to scratch when they have featured there.

The 5 foot 9 midfielder has made 33 appearances for Boca, and the 23-year-old showed that he isn’t afraid of putting his foot in having picked up 11 yellow cards in 33 outings for previous club Atletico Nacional.

Some of the Spurs supporters have clearly been looking the midfielder up on YouTube if they hadn’t heard of him before, with one comparing him to a “young Mousa Dembele” – a player Tottenham are arguably yet to replace unless Ndombele comes good.

@wibble-wobbegong after I read your Peter gate analysis I’ve been thinking a lot about Victor’s monologue and how it’s possible he was intentionally lying in it.

Like in volume 2 we got the information that he gave again from Henry’s perspective, which made it seem like Victor was unintentionally giving false information, but considering literally every monologue given in season 4 had lies to some capacity, I’m not very inclined to trust what Henry said either. Especially because there’s still some weird gaps from his monologue regarding his family…

So we essentially got Victor’s monologue again from Henry’s POV to “reveal the truth” but Henry’s POV is still unreliable.

Also, the Creels are paralleled to the Wheelers. Another “perfect” nuclear family, and a lot of emphasis is placed on the Wheelers constantly knowingly lying to themselves, each other, and other people on the show.

Basically, I don’t think Victor is as innocent or clueless as either his or Henry’s monologue made him out to be. I think they’re both withholding information about the Creel family dynamic and I think it has something to do with Peter.

Idk like I don’t have any answers just more questions bc there are so many gaps in what we know about the Creel family and something’s off about both Victor and Henry’s POVs.

Plus we never get Alice or Virginia’s POV, so we have no reliable information about either of them.

Victor made his family seem normal and innocent, Henry made his family seem naive and clueless, and I’m not buying either. They both know more than they’re letting on.

And there’s also the fact that we still don’t know what Henry’s memory that makes him angry enough to strengthen his powers is?? It’s very likely that it has something to do with his family and/or Brenner and my guess is that it also involves Peter.

Idk I feel like I have a lot of the individual puzzle pieces but none of the answers 😭
