The Good Omens Musical Masterpost🎵❤

How it started :)

Some time before 2013: Vicki Larnach, the australian composer and lyricist, read the Good Omens book, imagined figures dancing on stage with brilliant music and thought, ‘Ah, I’m gonna ask Terry Pratchet and Neil Gaiman if I can turn it into a musical.’ and sent an email to the publishers. The next day she got an email saying, ‘We don’t want a musical but Terry’s coming to Australia, so come and say hello and tell us what you got.’

Rob Wilkins came down to meet Vicki and Jim Hare - Vicki's husband and writer - and took them to meet Terry. They spent an hour and a half with them where Terry asked ‘piercing questions’, had tea with them and they showed Terry a song that Vicki wrote (about the Chattering Nuns). Terry said to Rob, ‘Rob, write and email to Neil, “Dear Neil, this is Terry. I’m sitting in front of two hippies from Sydney and they want to make a musical out of Good Omens and I’m tempted to let them do it.”’ which was the best email they ever heard and then Terry said, ‘Okay, you have me curious.’ - it was because of the Nuns song which sounded like the book. ‘I’m gonna give you six months, come back with a first draft libretto and five songs.’

They then sent it to Terry who sent it to Gaiman. Terry said, ‘I really like it, you’re moving story, you’re doing all the right things, but where’s showstopper, where’s the toe-tapper, you know I need people to go to intermission just snapping their fingers with the song they just can’t get out of their head, and I haven’t heard that.’ - and they realized that they were so busy serving the story they forgot to do the wow-factor, but found it very encouraging from Terry that he wanted to make it better.

They went through the whole book again to find a centrepiece - and they found it  when Warlock is growing up and Aziraphale and Crowley are with him, and spent months working just on that one thing and called ‘All Living Things’ [the song at the start of this post :)] which is a line from the book.*’ Terry gave that song to a person he knew and asked him to play it to his wife with no context and when the next day the person said that his wife woke up still singing the song Terry said to Vicki and Jim: ‘Well, that’s what I asked you to do.’

Vicki and Jim got the permission to being adapting it as a musical in 2013.

Vicki and Jim on it a couple of years ‘fumbling about’, took it as far as they could and decided to bring another person into it: Jay-James Moody

In 2015, Jay James-Moody joined the collaboration initially as a dramaturge and directorial eye, eventually evolving into co-book writer. Vicki, James and Jay have continued to evolve through countless more revisions and a number of private development readings with the support, time and talent of numerous wonderful Australian performers testing the material.

In November 2017, the musical was presented in its then-current form and entirety for the first time before an audience of over 500 eager attendees. The cast included Luke Joslin, Lachlan O’Brien, Nancye Hayes, Barry Quin, Brett O’Neill, Lauren McKenna, Nicholas Craddock, Paul Capsis, Rob Johnson, Amy Lehpamer, Debora Krizak, Blake Erickson, Nat Jobe, Ana Maria Belo, Jordan Hare, Bella Thomas, Anthony Abrakmanov and Samson Hyland.

Following a rapturous response to this reading it continued to be refined and developed.

In 2019, ten days before the show came out they did their last presentation, since then they’ve been to London and shown a videotape of that workshop to Gaiman and Rob Wilkins which was ‘a pretty heartstopping experience’.

Differences between the musical and the book

The ending of the musical is a bit different.

It opens with the burning of Agnes Nutter and Aziraphale and Crowley are introduced there. 

Act One ends with them ‘essentially breaking up’ because of a huge argument and they dissolve their friendship, Act Two starts with the first time they meet.

The Future?

What is the future for the musical: in 2021 they said that they need to work on some things and then they hope to do another run, initially in Australia.

There will be a CD of the soundtrack available when the show is produced in it’s full version.

In 2024 on insta they said that it is in "complicated process of rights to stage Good Omens" and "We appreciate your support and patience of the progress or seeming lack therof, of Good Omens the musical but we assure you, we will bring you the show in the next few years."

Hello!! I am back with another crossover parallel :D it’s still fairly odd parents a new wish x the owl house but it’s comparing two characters this time, dev and hunter! (Hopefully it will make sense when I explain it)

1. Their mothers are both never mentioned :( (ik belos isn’t technically Hunter’s dad but he’s basically a parental dad figure so it sort of counts since before Hunter got redeemed, he didn’t really have a mother parental figure)

2. When they were first introduced, they both had some accessory covering their face or parts of their face (Hunter with the mask as the golden guard and Dev with the sunglasses)

3. They both just have the same attitude before their redemption? At least while Hunter was still the golden guard. Both are a little sarcastic and snarky and want to make their parental figure proud (more on that in a second)

4. OMG DALE AND BELOS ARE LITERALLY THE SAME ANSJSKKSKSK. Both are business men (being emperor counts as being a business man trust), have experienced some sort of trauma(Dale with Vicky and Belos with his brother), do not pay attention to their children, basically run the city or place where they live, are loved by a lot of people, and both aren’t good people

5. This only counts if you see the Dev being a clone theory as being real ‼️ but both are non-humans or were made by their parental figures to fit in when in reality, they’re not who they look like they are (dev with the clone theory and Hunter being a grimwalker)

6. Both are befriended by the kind and happy main character :3 (Hazel and Luz)

7. Both have had access to magic (Hunter and his palismans, Dev and Peri)

8. When they both got redeemed, they started acting kinder (Dev, unfortunately, went back to being mean)

9. To be honest they both have just been through a lot 😭🙏 these poor trauma filled boys

10. A kind person is usually shipped with them (hunter x willow, dev x hazel)

11. Their access to magic were killed or almost killed (Hunter and Flapjack, Dev and Peri)

12. Both were VERY lonely 😭😭😭😭 (except Dev is technically still lonely with the memory wipe)

13. I know Hunter in the titans key episode was absolutely insane when he felt when he failed Belos (the quotes being: “Long story short, this is my grave! Want me to make you one too?” and “I can’t turn up empty handed…. not again.”) but I feel like Dev would probably act the same if he felt like he failed his dad too

14. And they’re both into nerdy things :3 yayayy!! (Hunter with Cosmic Frontier and Dev with Prime Meridian)

That’s all I could think of!! There may be more parallels but I haven’t watched the owl house in a LONG TIME 😭😭 I will rewatch it though! UKvTW 2 Queens on their original Snatch Game

Win: Hannah Conda, Keta Minaj, La Grande Dame

Analysis:

Of the 6 queens who've been on Snatch Game 4 were funny and placed in top. As someone who's seen Marina's PGMA, she could've easily won the challenge over her drag mother Xilhouette's performance as Vicki Belo.

Of the 2 who were eliminated only Tia truly did bad. In another timeline Choriza as Preatan would've just been low or safe.

Between Scarlet and Gothy I feel like Scarlet will do fine and Gothy will struggle.

Predictions:

Top 2: La Grande Dame and Hannah Conda

Grande Dame has been on the top of her game espescially in comedy and I think she'llregain her footing in this challenge. Hannah is amazing at comedy and making quips, Snatch Game is just a playground for her I think and it would be a great way for her to finally get her moment in the spotlight.

High: Marina Summers/Tia Kofi/Choriza May

Marina did wel her first time around and she'll probably do a great job again. I just think she'll prolly do a pinoy character Ru doesn't recognize and that'll prevent her from winning. I think Tia or Choriza cause I get the vibes one of them is getting some sort of redemption, espescially Tia.

Bottom 2: Tia Kofi/Gothy Kendoll/Scarlet Envy

Gothy has been nervous all season and she's never done snatch game. Scarlet has never done snatch game. Tia as Mel B was really bad so maybe she'll fall in the bottom for snatch game again even with her vibe of redemption.

No dia em que Vance nasceu, uma tempestade fazia toda a Albury se esconder em casa. Isso não parecia um fato extraordinário, já que as chuvas caíam durante quase todo o mês naquela época do ano, mas era uma das lembranças mais carinhosas que tinha; sua mãe se deitando ao seu lado na cama e contando sobre o dia em que ele nasceu. No entanto, após o esforço e um belo sorriso da sorte na direção do casal, as coisas começaram a prosperar. O problema era que isso significava mais tempo de trabalho, mais tempo fora de casa, menos momentos de histórias para dormir.

Além disso, o que ganhava era suficiente para ajudar Vicky com o que gostava, e ver sua irmã contente, se divertindo com algo que realmente apreciava fazer, era o que compensava o esforço. Nunca gostou de vê-la tão pressionada com os estudos, mas talvez fosse a última esperança dos pais de ter um filho perfeito, assim como os pintavam em festas chiques e jantares importantes.

Era um dia de tempestade quando sua mãe abandonou a casa, parecendo quase uma piada do universo que combinasse com uma das únicas memórias afetuosas que tinha com ela. A notícia foi estranha, mas não doeu. Vinny não tinha do que sentir saudades. O que realmente o machucou e o deixou furioso foi ver, meses depois, sua irmã apanhando por pintar seus quadros. Foi a primeira vez que enfrentou o seu pai; já era maior que ele e não deixaria que encostasse mais em Vicky, a não ser que quisesse derrubá-lo antes disso. O pai desistiu da ideia, mas plantou a semente daquele desejo ardente no coração de Vinny de se tornar independente da sua fortuna e viver longe daquele teatro constante. Nenhuma palavra carinhosa fazia compensar a ausência e, embora amasse o velho de todo o coração, sabia que também poderia amá-lo a distância, sem ser o único a esperar por um abraço.

Sendo assim, após enviar o seu portfólio para o Daily Seoul e receber uma resposta positiva do jornal, se mudou com a irmã para a capital coreana, onde faziam o possível para manter as contas em dia.

Embora Vinny seja naturalmente extrovertido e amável, sua experiência de vida o tornou reservado quando se trata de compartilhar seus próprios problemas e preocupações; ele guarda esses sentimentos para si, a menos que sua irmã insista em saber.

Agora, um adulto – ainda que nem sempre se sinta um –, Vinny tenta apaziguar a relação com o pai e se desfazer de suas magoas, toca seus instrumentos e sua música como forma de escapar da realidade e aos poucos se destaca com a fotografia, principalmente pela habilidade em encontrar beleza nas situações mais simples e comuns do dia-a-dia de Seoul. Além disso, mantém a moto que ganhou quando era adolescente como um de seus maiores tesouros. Depois de sua irmã, é o maior amor de sua vida.
