just some valencia and vicente tingz
Valencia hates the way her body trembles under his gaze. It’s not hard to miss the lousy condensing look beaming from Ivor, as he circles around her slowly.
With a shaky swallow, Valencia tightens the shawl around her shoulders, taking extra care with the blade that was pressed to her throat. Her eyes glance quickly to Don Vicente, the man hired to kill her, one of his large hands held her still, the other held the blade dangerously still to her skin. His dark gaze stares impassively at Ivor. Awaiting any command.
“I-Ivor,” Valencia tries, her voice barely above a whisper. Ivor’s thin frame turns, and his eyes nearly look beady as he narrows them into what he figured to be a threatening glare. Valencia gasps when the blade presses closer to her. It’s cold, sharp, but she doesn’t feel it cut her skin, not yet. “Please…” She urges, grasping her hands together in plea. “Don’t do this,”
There’s a smarmy chuckle from Ivor. “I think I like seeing you this way,” he says crossing his arms. “The Ice Queen on her knees, asking- no, begging,”
Valencia’s stomach twists, and it’s her instinct to lunge forward. But gripping hold from Vicente keeps her in place.
“Begging me to spare her,” Ivor finishes with a smile. His smile turns sour as he advances on her. “Did you spare me the humiliation when you rejected me?!” He shouts, his voice echoing through the courtyard. Valencia flinches at the spittle flying and turns her face away. Against the cold night, her face burns.
Ivor’s hand reaches for her face, but a subtle movement from Vicente blocks it and he shakes his head, motioning to the knife. Ivor pauses but nods. “Have…have he’s look at me,” he says almost breathlessly the realization of the control of power he had hitting him. Valencia allows Vicente to turn her chin and face Ivor.
“Ivor, if you have any shred of decency in you, let me go.” Valencia says quietly, staring into his eyes.
Ivor laughs with no trace of humor. “Oh my little witch,” he sneers. “I’ll give you two options: you can die, right here and now”
Valencia clenches her hands tightly. Another squeeze from Vicente stills her.
“Or?” Valencia urges, holding back vice in her voice.
“Or correct your mistake and marry me,” Ivor says arrogantly. “It’s all up to you, Miss Fulgencio.”
At that Valencia can’t help but smile. “Up to me?” She repeats softly. She catches eyes with Vicente and her smile grows more at his wink. She looks back to Ivor. “Then I chose to kill you.”
A beat of confusion passes over Ivor, his eyes growing wide when Vicente moves the knife from Valencia’s throat and helps her to stand.
“Thank you, mi amor,” Valencia says, brushing any dirt from her dress. She enjoys the sound of Ivor’s intelligible sputtering as Vicente’s lips press to her’s.
“What is this?” Ivor demands. His pale face takes on a hue of red and purple, as his attention falls to Vicente “We had a contract!”
Wordlessly, Valencia raises her left hand elegantly and shows off the silver band around her ring finger. She could almost feel the cold that ran through Ivor’s blood.
“Ivor, meet my fiancée,” Vicente introduces. “Turns out, I like the contract I made with her much better,” he says. He lifts Valencia’s hand higher, pressing a kiss to her knuckles. “Mi amor,” he presses the knife to her hand, “have your way.”
Valencia nods, smiling sweetly to her future husband. Her eyes pinning Ivor to the spot, “What was it that you said before?” She asks, feigning thought. “You enjoyed the sight of the ‘ice queen’ on her knees begging for her life to be spared.” She mocks tilting the knife side to side.
Ivor collides to the ground in a stumble and, Valencia stalks forward. Her steps light and lithe, and eyes burning with a thirst for blood that had been too longed locked away.
“Beg,” Valencia demands standing before him. Ivor’s eyes well with tears. Valencia moves with a swift slash, and blood pools from his cheek.
“Please!” Ivor sobs, crawling away. A crushing hold on his shoulders stop him and yanks him back. Vicente hushes him lowly
“Listen when a lady is speaking,” Vicente says, jerking him towards Valencia. Ivor’s eyes well up and his hands clasp together looking at her pleadingly.
Valencia hums in thought. “I don’t spare pathetic men,” She decides. “Especially one who can’t take no for an answer”
Ivor chokes as the blade cuts into his throat. Vicente lets the limp body fall forward lifeless.
Valencia stares quietly at the growing pool of blood gathering at her feet and feels a cold and unworldly wind at her back. A phantom mist swirls in the dark at her hands.
A family gift had been finally awaken.

dark world oc things
just some thoughts on some new ocs for a new world!!
Vicente and Damiàn Velasquez
From the affluent and influential Velasquez family of assassins
Children of Don Santiago, the family’s patriarch, and the spirit medium Victoria Caceres
They are very supportive and protective of each other; lots of love there
Both are trained in the art of Murder but have their own interests outside of it
Vicente
he/him, idk what his sexuality is but his type is women who can murder him
5’10”, curly black hair, tanned skin, hazel eyes, cheekbones for days, very very well dressed, always looks very put together and classy but not like he’s trying to, but like sure he’s trying but it’s almost effortless, a rectangle
An assassin; has a day job probs but idk what that is atm
Charming, ambitious, and philanthropic; he is here to Help and has a good , honest, well-respected reputation...but he is also conniving and calculating and backstabbing, especially when it involves the interests of his family; very good at reading people, gaining their trust and making connections; can use the secrets, favors, trust, and access he has acquired, often unnoticed, over the years to attack or injure or for his own ends; the type of person you would want to be friends with, especially if you care about Society/connections, but that is a Choice; very, very devoted to his own
There is an integrity and genuineness to his methods which makes him so trustworthy and reliable, he’s always There and he puts in the effort...but it’s also what makes him more dangerous; basically, he’s a really really good politician
Very, very in love with his wife, Valencia; extremely devoted to her and their eventual children
“I would die for her. I would kill for her. Either way--what a bliss.”
Inherited his mother’s gift of mediumship so he can see and communicate with ghosts
Does music (violin) -- Victoria wanted to do music but didn’t have the means to so she made sure at least one of her kids had the opportunity to -- and it is way of clearing his head
Has a fancy shmancy cane that has a hidden weapon in it bc i think that’s cool, sexy, and fun
Damiàn
he/him, i don’t think he’s figured out his sexuality yet but he’s Vibin
6’0”, dark wavy golden brown hair, tanned skin, hazel eyes, baby-faced, dorito body ala Chris Evans, almost always covered in grime and dirt, wears round spectacles and has mechanic goggles always on his head or around his neck
A year and a half younger than Vicente
An inventor/scientist; lowkey steampunk vibes
Intuitive, systematic, and resourceful; essentially the Inventor archetype, very da Vinci meets Tesla meets Maurice from BatB vibes; he likes tinkering with things and figuring out how stuff works; believes that there is a solution to every problem; he isn’t easily disheartened and gets excited over failures as it is an opportunity to learn; can and will get lost in thought like the world could end and he wouldn’t know
But he’s not awkward, still has the upbringing of a member of a high class/society family; a great conversationalist and loves a good debate/exchange of ideas but has a preference for his automatons, chemicals, and machines; he can survive in a party basically
Interested in harnessing energy and power sources; he’s going to try to give a scientific explanation to magic u guys like for a dude who lives in a house powered by magic, has ghosts, and has family members with supernatural powers, he’s p bullheaded about it
Black sheep of the family as he doesn’t have much interest in the family business of Murder bc he prefers tinkering with things...can still commit a sneaky Murder if he wanted to
But if given the chance, between Vicente and Damiàn, it’s Damiàn who can get really creative when killing a person
Whereas Vicente is efficient and quick with his kills, Damiàn can draw the death out as long as possible
Soledad Ramirez Velasquez
she/her, idk she hasn’t thought about her sexuality at all so TBA
5’7”, a translucent blue-white color, empty crazy eyes, wears a blood stained (stains are silvery) wedding gown, has gunshot wounds on her person -- the most prominent being the one on her forehead, has either a butcher’s knife, axe, or hatchet with her at all times
The Velasquez family ghost; has haunted the family manor for like a shit long time already before Vicente and Damiàn come along
A Black Widow bride when she was alive -- married rich dudes and then murdered them to get their inheritance
Her weapons of choice were those that she brings around as a ghost
Always got a way with it -- either she wasn’t connected to it completely or there wasn’t enough evidence to file a case against her
Ended up genuinely enjoying the murders she did; she’s living her best life u guys
Eventually married into the Velasquez family and successfully killed her husband...which was her undoing as the family then killed her as an act of revenge
Despite getting proper burial rites, she chose not to move on out of fear of what is waiting for her in the afterlife; came back to murder the Velasquez fam members as revenge for killing her
The family, for the longest, had no idea what was going on
It was Bit
Eventually, all was revealed and an uneasy truce was struck between the fam and Soledad (the fam was like “what you did wasn’t cool but mad respect tho”)
Murderous, dramatic, and bloodthirsty; she is very proud of what she’s done and actively threatens to kill people like she was already murderous alive but it got cranked up a notch as a ghost; likes to have fun with her victims before she does them in (ex. Terrorize them, make them run, etc.); can be very protective and possessive when she chooses to be; has a very expensive taste and has loves living life (lol) -- will look for a party she can haunt when she’s not on a killing spree
Her undead life has given her a lot of time to reflect and experience things she normally wouldn’t consider when she was alive bc she was too busy getting other people’s money...she’s kinda annoyed by it
Is fiercely protective of the family, the manor, and the family fortune...has done many murders /things for/because of those 3 things
The way to her heart is expensive gifts (that she will leave in a room to gather dust), murder, and the Velasquez family; she likes the kids but they’re terrified of her
#vicente velasquez#damian velasquez#soledad ramirez velasquez#oc intro#dark world#new dark world#the velasquez family#i just needed to get this all out#that being said there might be some future changes#esp with their sexualities bc thats just a big ??? atm lol

“Still Trying To Figure It Out” UFC on ESPN Debut
Joey
Feb 10th, 2019
Sometimes a card is just weird. Sometimes you're presented a show that you just kind of can't figure out and this ESPN debut card from Arizona seems to fall into that mix. On paper, this is a really good card. The main card has a big boy headliner featuring a former UFC champion and a rejuvenated hype train that everybody will care about, the rest of the main card is all action fights on paper and the prelims are well matched and put together. You've got some damn good fights at bantamweight, some fun stuff at strawweight, some relevant 145ers and a big boy main event. Despite all that, I still don't have a great grip on how good this card is or whether it's a fools gold. It was in JULY (so not even eight months ago really) where Francis Ngannou threw nothing for fifteen minutes vs Derrick Lewis and Cain has been gone so long that it's worth remembering that we didn't have two weight classes (women's flyweight AND featherweight) the last time he fought. Debuts can be tricky so Kron vs Caceres could be awful, Felder vs Vick has no reason to not be fun but I've been hoodwinked before and the rest of the card can be hit or miss as well. There's also probably not one real stand out co-main event which doesn't help some folks but personally I think this is one of those rare cares (in today's MMA scene at least) where there's enough good up and down to create the illusion of a deep stacked card. I'm with it, let's see if anybody ELSE is with it along with me.
Fights: 13
Debuts: Kron Gracie
Fight Changes/Injury Cancellations: 1 (Lauren Murphy OUT, Andrea Lee IN vs Ashlee Evans Smith)
Headliners (fighters who have either main evented or co-main evented shows in the UFC): 10 (Francis Ngannou, Cain Velasquez, Andre Fili, Jimmie Rivera, Paul Felder, James Vick, Cynthia Calvillo, Alex Caceres, Jessica Penne, Renan Barao)
Fighters On Losing Streaks in the UFC: 3 (Renan Barao, Jessica Penne, Jodie Esquibel)
Fighters On Winning Streaks in the UFC: 6 (Alexandra Albu, Vicente Luque, Aljamain Sterling, Manny Bermudez, Scott Holtzman, Aleksandra Albu)
Main Card Record Since Jan 1st 2017 (in the UFC): 27-15
Francis Ngannou- 4-2 Cain Velasquez- 0-0 Paul Felder- 3-1 James Vick- 4-1 Courtney Casey- 2-2 Cynthia Calvillo- 4-1 Alex Caceres- 2-2 Kron Gracie- 0-0 Andre Fili- 2-2 Myles Jury- 2-2 Vicente Luque- 3-1 Bryan Barberena- 2-1
Fights By Weight Class (yearly number here):
Women’s Strawweight- 3 (4) Bantamweight- 3 (7) Lightweight- 2 (9) Women’s Flyweight- 1 (5) Heavyweight- 1 (3) Featherweight- 2 (5) Welterweight- 1 (6)
Middleweight- (4) Flyweight- (4) Light Heavyweight- (3)
2019’s Records We Keepin Track Of:
Debuting Fighters (2-10): Kron Gracie
Short Notice Fighters (1-4): Andrea Lee
Second Fight (10-2): Andrea Lee, Benito Lopez
Cage Corrosion (Fighters who have not fought within a year of the date of the fight) (3-1): Cain Velasquez, Alexandra Albu, Jessica Penne, Benito Lopez
Undefeated Fighters (3-7): Kron Gracie, Alexandra Albu
Fighters with at least four fights in the UFC with 0 wins over competition still in the organization (0-1): Nik Lentz, Renan Barao
Weight Class Jumpers (Fighters competing outside of the weight class of their last fight even if they’re returning BACK to their “normal weight class”) (4-4): Paul Felder
Twelve Precarious Ponderings
1- Who is under MORE pressure? Is it Cain Velasquez or is it Francis Ngannou? Cain's been gone for over two years now, has battled injury after injury after injury and had a few out of the cage squabbles with the UFC. It's worth remembering that Cain has fought just twice since the end of 2013 and even those two performances come with a ton of caveats (Travis Browne was cooked, the Werdum fight was at high altitude after a year and change off). On the other hand, Ngannou's 2018 couldn't of been more complicated. He started the year having brief flashes in a blow out loss vs Stipe Miocic where his takedown defense and cardio were "exposed" for five rounds. Even if you could forgive Ngannou for being a touch too green for a major title fight (which he had earned), the Derrick Lewis performance was unforgivable. He came out scared vs Lewis and for fifteen minutes, they put on the worst fight in the history of mixed martial arts. JUST when you might be ready to cash out on Ngannou, he blitzed and finished Curtis Blaydes in China in November. I don't know which fighter is under more pressure to perform at this point.
2- Does Ngannou get a title shot if he beats Cain? Could Francis Ngannou vs Daniel Cormier headline in April or June?
3- Last year fighters who took a year off or more between fights started the year at an ugly 1-8 while this year, small sample size and all, are 3-1. Can Cain keep those good vibes going or nah?
4- The best division in MMA nobody seems to give any sort of a shit about rolls onward as bantamweight has three damn good fights on this card. Unfortunately all of those fights are on the televised prelims (or ESPN+ for that matter) so here we are. Alex Caceres vs Kron Gracie had to be on the main card :/ We can begin with Aljamain Sterling vs Jimmie Rivera; a stupendous fight between fighters with similar strengths and weaknesses. Sterling finished Cody Stamman last time out while Jimmie Rivera cruised to a decision win over Jon Dodson. Both guys can commiserate over Marlon Moraes blow out first round losses. Benito Lopez vs Manny Bermudez is an A+ fight featuring two really different undefeated prospects. Lopez is super raw but exciting while Bermudez is a bit less raw but comes with the one stop shop finishing ability on the ground (as well as some developing pop on the feet). Lastly you have the kinda sorta really sad return of Renan Barao who has lost every bit of his uniqueness/athleticism at this point. Just no point for him to be fighting at 135 lbs anymore.
5- Any Kron Gracie opinions? I got none. Lack any sort of answers here.
6- Paul Felder vs James Vick is an interesting fight that's hard to care about unfortunately due to the fact that this division is such a messy state. James Vick had his four fight winning streak snapped violently at the hands of Justin Gaethje which is rough when you consider how hard and long it took Vick to get himself into a main event spot. Vick remains a dude who always seems one bad shot away from getting rocked, wobbled and finished despite his immense array of skills. Conversely Paul Felder had HIS modest three fight winning streak snapped when he went up in weight to face off against Mike Perry on short notice. Sandwiched in between that and the start of 2018, Felder had a fight taken from him at UFC 223, lost the opportunity to potentially fight for a title and ALSO lost a fight with James Vick potentially in a co-main event spot. Felder's really strong at 155 lbs and he's matured a little bit, picking his spots a bit clearer after being a dude who just loved to do spinning shit over and over. The winner is one of those dudes who gets to hang around the bottom half of the top 10 a bit longer.
7- Courtney Casey vs Cynthia Calvillo is a really good fight that could be the quintessential showcase bout for Cynthia Calvillo if it hangs around on the ground for a while. I'd almost say this fight is co-main worthy but Courtney Casey seems like she's 0-10 on UFC main cards.
8- Imagine having a dude like Vicente Luque and opting to have him fight friggin' Bryan Barberena. A rankings fight that doesn't make a single lick of sense.
9- I am really really excited to see the fight between Scott Holtzman and Nick Lentz. Holtzman has been getting better with each performance and while he's still super flawed and has at least one stretch per fight where he puts himself in a bad spot, there's some serious strides being made by Holtzman. His domination of Alan Patrick last time out should at the very least open some doors on whether or not he still has more upside hidden somewhere. 155 lbs continues to be a very loaded division as more dudes have late breakouts.
10- Not gonna lie I totally thought Jessica Penne got cut at some point.
11- That two year run with Barao at the helm of the division from like 2012 to 2014 was kinda cool, riiiight?
12- First card of the year with no 205 lb fight on it. I'm disappointed!

Presumption of marriage; merely rebuttable
There is a presumption of marriage between persons deport themselves to be married. The presumption is merely rebuttable (Rule 131, Rules of Court). This presumption may be contradicted by a party and overcome by other evidence.
LUIS UY v. SPS MENDOZA
G.R.NO. 206220
AUGUST 19, 2015
Luis Uy subsituted by Lydia Uy Velasquez and Shirley Uy Macaraig, Petioner
Vs
Spouses Jose Lacsamana and Rosaura Mendoza, substituted by Corazon Bueno, Respondents
Facts:
The petitioner, Luis filed with RTC Batangas a complaint for the Declaration of Nullity of Documentss with damages against respondents Petra Rosca and Sps Lacsamana. He alleged that he was the lawful husband of Rosca, that they lived together as husband and wife from 1944 to 1973 wherein they where separated and lived apart. He alleged that he and his wife acquired a land which was issued in the name of Petra Rosca, married to Luis Uy. He stated that Rosca, executed in gross and evident bad faith and signed in a false simulated deed of sale. He contested the sale and that the property was conjugal in nature and sold without his consent.
Rosca denied all the allegations and claimed that she lawfully acquired the subject land using her paraphernal funds and that she was never married to Uy. Rosca stated that
Sps Lacsamana also counterclaimed that they were buyers in good faith.
After the death of Luis he was substituted by his daughters, Lydia and Shirley. Lydia testified that the Uy family lived in the house built on the land questioned by Uy and Rosca. She also alleged that the funds used to construct the family dwelling came from Uy’s business.
On other hand, Rosca testified that sometime on or before WWII, they both cohabited and settled in Batangas. The couple attempted to formalize their marital union with a marriage ceremony. However, it was not consummated because of the bombing which occurred on the day of the ceremony. Likewise, they were unable to secure a marriage contract. She also stated that she purchase alone and as sole vendee, with the money coming from her own personal and and paraphernal funds the subject parcel of land and even the construction of their family dwelling.
From the records, in the petition for Uys naturalization, it stated that, “I am married (not legally), in his sworn statements no less than the Governor of Batangas for his petition also the same. In his immigrant certificate of residence and Alien Certificate of Residence shows that he regarded himself as single. That, Vicente Caedo, a prominent citizen of Batangas, stated that Uy and Rosca were not legally married.
From the part of Uy, it was written in the SSS claim death for employees compensation, Rosca admitted she is the widow of Uy.
ISSUE:
Wether or Not the marriage of Uy and Rosca is valid
Ruling:
No, Uy failed to discharge the burden that he was legally married to Rosca. There is a presumption established in our Rules "that a man and woman deporting themselves as husband and wife have entered into a lawful contract of marriage."Semper praesumitur pro matrimonio — Always presume marriage. However, this presumption may be contradicted by a party and overcome by other evidence.Uy was not able to present any copy of the marriage certificate which he could have sourced from his own personal records, the solemnizing officer, or the municipal office where the marriage allegedly took place. Even the findings of the RTC revealed that Uy did not show a single relevant evidence that he was actually married to Rosca. On the contrary, the documents Uy submitted showed they were not legally married to each other. Since Uy failed to discharge the burden that he was legally married to Rosca, their property relations would be governed by Article 147 of the Family Code which applies when a couple living together were not incapacitated from getting married.Wherefore, the court find that the Deed of , executed by Rosca on her paraphernal property in favor of Spouses Lacsamana, is valid.

PRIMEIRA LIGA (33), 1ª GIORNATA
3 pt Nacional, 3 pt Boavista, 3 pt Estoril, 3 pt Braga, 1 pt Beira Mar, 1 pt Sporting Lisbona, 0 pt Gil Vicente, 0 pt Moreirense, 0 pt Porto, 0 pt Benfica. __________

UFC FIGHT NIGHT®: NGANNOU vs. VELASQUEZ features some of the most impressive heavyweight fighters in the UFC with Francis “The Predator” Ngannou facing Cain Velasquez. He is back on knockout form, coming off a quick 45 second knockout of Curtis “Razor” Blaydes at UFC FIGHT NIGHT®: NGANNOU vs. BLAYDES 2. We last saw former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez knocking Travis Browne out in the first round at UFC 200: TATE vs. NUNES in 2016. A statement win over Ngannou would propel Velasquez back into the title picture, with an astonishing knockout rate of 86%, one punch could end the fight. Follow the results below.

UFC 226: Stipe Miocic vs. Daniel Cormier & TUF 27 Finale: Israel Adesanya vs. Brad Tavares - Fights to make
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/6c85ec7c7599286751abb0a5923cf26c/tumblr_inline_pksh63ccCD1v3gl14_540.jpg)
UFC’s International Fight Week has come to a close. And while it started out on a serious down note, with a stinker of a TUF 27 Finale card, it ended on one hell of a high. Daniel Cormier took every shot Stipe Miocic could land on him and answered back with a stunning KO. Cormier becomes just the second UFC fighter ever to hold two titles at the same time, and he’s opened up some serious matchmaking possibilities.
So, what’s next? And what does the UFC do with Miocic for that matter? Or Israel Adesanya, off the biggest win of his career.
To answer all those questions - and a whole bunch more - I’ll be turning to the classic Silva/Shelby fight booking method of years past. That means pitting winners against winners, losers against losers, and similarly tenured talent against one another. If you’d like to take your own crack at fantasy matchmaking, leave a comment below starting with, “I guess I do suck. Everyone says I suck and they were right, but I got to try anyway.” I’ll pick one winner from the responses to join me next time.
This week’s winner is BE reader ‘Alex JT,’ now let’s get to the fights:
DANIEL CORMIER
Alex - Lets keep it simple. Daniel Cormier stated before the fight he wanted to fight Brock Lesnar, and it seems to be already set-up. I think Cormier would wrestle with Lesnar just to show how much better he is, and that’s actually really intriguing to me. After all Brock Lesnar is, at the end of the day, a great real wrestler. I think that gets lost because of the WWE career. USADA, please leave Brock alone. On another note, while I’m happy for Cormier, it does make me sad about Jon Jones. I don’t condone any of his behavior, but this is what we all imagined for him, this moment. I hope tonight he realized that he let Cormier seize his moment, and it’s no one’s fault except his own. Daniel Cormier cemented his place as one of the greatest ever to do it and congratulations are in order. Now get your payday DC! Daniel Cormier vs. Brock Lesnar
Zane - Cormier came up with his own shortlist of potential opponents at the post-fight presser, and I don’t have any real problem with it. He’s preparing to ride off into the sunset after a long and very successful career and he wants to do it on his terms. Chances are that means he just sits and waits until Brock Lesnar is ready to go. Other than a miracle turn for Jon Jones in arbitration, it’s the only true ‘money’ bout on the table. If there’s a chance of him making 205 again, then a Gustafsson rematch would be fun – if Gus gets by Oezdemir – but that all feels too untrustworthy to bank on. Daniel Cormier vs. Brock Lesnar is clearly the bout both fighters and the UFC want.
STIPE MIOCIC
Alex - Stipe should fight Curtis Blaydes, and I’m going against the Shelby/Silva model of booking fights because of Colby Covington and Rafael Dos Anjos. Let me explain. There was absolutely NO REASON that the Covington/Dos Anjos fight should have been for the interim title. There was nothing wrong with Tyron Woodley, but the UFC needs pay-per-view buys. I mean it obviously didn’t help for UFC 225. However, with that stupid logic, Stipe Miocic versus Curtis Blaydes will be for the interim heavyweight title because why not? This is the new UFC. If anyone finds a prop bet for this, I will put money down on it because that’s how sure I am of this as Stipe’s next fight. Stipe Miocic versus Curtis Blaydes for the UFC Interim Heavyweight Title
Zane - There are some fun fights out there for Stipe Miocic, even off a loss. They could throw him into a rematch with Francis Ngannou, or even give him Derrick Lewis off this terrible win. I wouldn’t even be opposed to him fighting Alexander Volkov. If I didn’t think Cain Velasquez was a complete pipe dream, I’d say that’s the real fight to make here and now. It would make for one hell of a UFC return for the former champ. But, since I can’t depend on Cain making a comeback, I’ll say Lewis is the most logical bout. It’s a new one for Stipe, and while Lewis’ win was terrible, it keeps both men busy while we wait for this Lesnar thing to blow over. It’s either that or an Overeem rematch, I suppose. Derrick Lewis vs. Stipe Miocic, go after it.
DERRICK LEWIS
Alex - You want to talk about a disappointment, for the all the sh-t Derrick Lewis talked, that fight sucked. Lewis should fight Alexander Volkov. Not because he deserves it, but because Curtis Blaydes doesn’t need to fight him to stake a claim for a title shot. If Volkov wins, then there’s some fresh challengers after Cormier and Lesnar are done. Derrick Lewis vs. Alexander Volkov
Zane - Okay, I’ve already said Lewis vs. Stipe. But, assuming that doesn’t happen for some reason, then Lewis needs a backup plan. I’d be 100% up for seeing him face Alexander Volkov, and I’ve always always wanted to see Lewis face Alistair Overeem in the battle of limited power puncher vs. chinny, crafty vet. But the real answer, after that terrible performance, is for Lewis to face the winner of JDS vs. Ivanov. Either name would be a solid feather in Lewis’ cap (although obviously JDS much more so), and it’d be a chance for either JDS or Ivanov to assert themselves into a newly shaken up title picture. Lewis vs. Stipe is option A, but Lewis vs. JDS/Ivanov winner is a strong B side.
FRANCIS NGANNOU
Alex - I have no idea what to do here. He’s knocked out everyone. I guess based the on the Shelby/Silva model of booking fights the most logical person is Marcin Tybura, but that seems a little bit of a mismatch on paper. After tonight though, I don’t know what to expect from Ngannou moving forward. Francis Ngannou vs. Marcin Tybura
Zane - What to do with Ngannou after that terrible fight? I almost just want to see him fight Lewis again. Force him to take this bout over and over until it’s as fun in reality as it looked like on paper. Realistically, I wouldn’t be against seeing him fight Tai Tuivasa, who has been totally fearless and unreserved thus far in his MMA career. It could easily be too much too soon for the Aussie, but if he wins the implications are huge for him. Otherwise, I’m up for seeing Ngannou against the winner of Oliynyk vs. Hunt. But, the more I think about it, the more I’m up for Tuivasa vs. Ngannou as my first choice.
MIKE PERRY
Alex - While it was a great fight, all this does is snap Mike Perry’s losing streak. I don’t think this fight answered any questions in regards to where he currently sits in the Welterweight division. After losing to Santiago Ponzinibbio and Max Griffin, Perry is right back to where he was before this fight. At the end of the day he beat a lightweight who fought on ten days notice. He still needs to answer the question, if he’s a ranked fighter or a gatekeeper to the top 15. The rib injury Yancy Medeiros suffered seems pretty significant, and that probably gives Perry enough time to recover from this fight. The UFC should re-book Perry’s original fight at UFC 226 for the MSG show in November. Mike Perry vs. Yancy Medeiros
Zane - Perry looked improved with a close win over Paul Felder, but it also showed that he’s still got a ways to go. He hits with a ton of power, but slowing his output means he’s got to hurt opponents clear and clean or risk giving up the points edge to volume. It could be time for a well rounded, athletic test like Vicente Luque or Warlley Alves. Or maybe another banger like Elizeu Zaleski? I think I’d actually like to see Perry show that he can pick off a work-rate striker, who can stay outside and keep hands in his face, however. That’s why I’m gonna go with Belal Muhammad. Muhammad doesn’t have the power to likely break Perry, but he does have the skill to stave him off, if Perry hasn’t evolved. It’s a chance to see if he’s moved past obvious former glaring flaws. Perry vs. Muhammad should be next.
ANTHONY PETTIS
Alex - Good for Anthony Pettis! It’s hard to know what to expect performance wise from him these days, but he got the win. However, rankings wise, I think this bumps him up to eighth at the highest and ninth at the lowest. This is the perfect fight for Gregor Gillespie. If you want to build up Gillespie’s star power, a win over a former champion is a great place to start that ascension towards a title shot and name recognition. Anthony Pettis vs. Gregor Gillespie
Zane - I never really thought I’d see this version of Anthony Pettis again. Or at least not against reasonable opposition. Maybe he’d style on late stage Tibau or something, but Chiesa seemed like a tough out who could expose the same problems everyone else has for years now. Somehow Pettis found a bit of that WEC magic, though, and reminded everyone why he was once considered one of the most exciting talents in the game. So, would Al Iaquinta fight him? He just recently turned down a bout with James Vick, but Pettis may have the name value to draw ‘Ragin’ Al into the Octagon again. I’ll admit, I’d also be totally up for seeing Pettis take on Dan Hooker, who really deserves the step up, and has carved his own niche out as an ultra dangerous striker with a flashy sub game. Still, Pettis vs. Iaquinta is choice one.
PAULO COSTA
Alex - So before I talk about his next fight, what are the odds he passes a post fight drug test? Jokes aside, I don’t think he should fight Israel Adesanya next. Why put two fresh fighters contenders against each other? David Branch is still looking to fight someone, and I think this is another good test for Costa. Branch doesn’t excel at anything, but he’s also not terrible in any one area. Lets keep building up Paulo Costa and Israel Adesanya without forcing them to face each other this early. Paulo Costa vs. David Branch
Zane - I’ve made my point below that Isreal Adesanya should be the next man in line for Paulo Costa. It would be an insanely fun style clash, and Adesanya gunning for Hall makes this fight feel like the logical next step. Assuming, however that that doesn’t happen, Costa has a couple good options. He could take a slight step back and go for a fight against Elias Theodorou – who recently picked up a good win over Trevor Smith – or he can take a big jump forward and take on David Branch. I could absolutely see Branch running roughshod over him, but I don’t see any big reason that Costa can’t get a chance to meet with some real adversity. Paulo Costa vs. David Branch.
RAPHAEL ASSUNCAO
Alex - Raphael Assuncao should be getting the next title shot after T.J. Dillashaw and Cody Garbrandt fight, based on beating Marlon Moraes, but he won’t. Counting on Dominick Cruz to take a non-title fight seems pretty pointless given his injury history and age. Especially if Dillashaw wins – since he’s never beaten Cruz – it’s a fight to book over Dillashaw versus Moraes, and something Dillashaw would probably be more interested in. Looking at the rankings, John Lineker doesn’t have a fight scheduled after winning in May. I guess that’s the way to go. But, Assuncao deserve better, regardless of the entertainment value in his win over Rob Font. Raphael Assuncao versus John Lineker
Zane - Let Marlon Moraes fight Dominick Cruz and give Assuncao his shot at the Dillashaw/Garbrandt winner. That’s the dream of anyone who roots for the guy that goes out and just fights hard year in and year out; racks up the wins, and quietly dominates most of his division. Most likely it’ll be the opposite, though. Assuncao just doesn’t seem like a fighter the UFC is interested in pushing in any way. A fight with Cruz might be just enough to keep him happy while Moraes slips by him. But that assumes Cruz is even healthy enough to fight again anytime soon. If not, and if the UFC is still going to skip Assuncao over, then book Assuncao vs. Lineker. But, that’s just assuming the UFC is going to keep giving him the shortest end of the stick they can.
DAN HOOKER
Alex - Four decisive finishes in a row deserves a top 15 opponent. I know Zane was calling for Dan Hooker and Gregor Gillespie to fight, but I don’t think the momentum both fighters have established forces them to fight each other right now. With Michael Chiesa leaving the Lightweight division, Hooker could find himself ranked 15th next week. This sets up perfectly for a match with Francisco Trinaldo. The UFC needs to start building younger contenders, and after this weekend, it’s clear that Dan Hooker is one of them. Dan Hooker vs. Francisco Trinaldo
Zane - Was I?... I very well may have said it at some time in the past... *checks notes*... Yes, yes I did. Well, I wouldn’t be against it, but I’ll admit that it does feel like Hooker has earned something bigger with a quick, dominant victory here. As I mentioned above, I actually really like the idea of Hooker vs. Pettis. But, I also have the feeling that that’s not a fight Pettis would be interested in – especially with Hooker languishing on the Fight Pass prelims. Trinaldo is a strong option, and I really do wish Mairbek Taisumov could get his visa together enough to actually fight; Hooker vs. Taisumov would be hot fire. In the absence of trust, though, I think Hooker’s best off getting the winner of Olivier Aubin-Mercier & Alex Hernandez. It’s no kind of step up in competition, but it’s the most sensible fight to plant him firmly in the rankings.
OTHER BOUTS: Felder vs. Green, Chiesa vs. Moraes, Rountree vs. Edilov, Saki vs. Prachnio, Hall vs. Ferreira, Font vs. Perez/Wineland winner, Klose vs. Diego Ferreira, Vannata vs. F. Silva, Millender vs. Alhassan, Griffin vs. Mina, Burns vs. Ray, Whitmire vs. Xiaonan, Moyle vs. Chan-Mi
THE ULTIMATE FIGHTER: UNDEFEATED FINALE
ISRAEL ADESANYA
Alex - No disrespect to Daniel Cormier, but Israel Adesanya is the biggest winner of this weekend. He put on an outstanding and dominant performance that I don’t think anyone expected. However, I still don’t think he’s answered the question about how he would do against a strong wrestler, and someone with a strong jiu-jitsu game. As stated above, I think it would be a huge mistake to put him against Paulo Costa. Instead, lets see if Adesanya can put together a performance like this against Jacare Souza. If he can pass that test with flying colors, then the future is indeed bright for the Last Style Bender. Israel Adesanya vs. Jacare Souza
Zane - Do you make the Paulo Costa fight now, or do you save it? Part of me thinks you put Adesanya against David Branch or the winner of Derek Brunson vs. Antonio Carlos Jr. and keep the ‘Last Style Bender’ and Costa on separate paths to top contention. But, Adesanya vs. Costa is a great fight and it seems like the obvious angle to take. Sometimes you just gotta take the good fight when it’s right in front of you. All the action all of the time. Isreal Adesanya vs. Paulo Costa is too good to refuse.
BRAD TAVARES
Alex - Man, I feel bad for Brad Tavares, but this one makes me question if he was overrated, and Adesanya was underrated. Tavares went for 12 takedowns, and only completed one, but he’s not known as a wrestler. After that strategy failed, he fell right into Adesanya’s game and it turned into a kickboxing match. This was his 17th fight in the UFC, so I think we may have seen how far he can go in the Middleweight division. He’s a top ten middleweight, but not a top five middleweight. I think Uriah Hall is also in that group as well. Lets see who can still fight at that level. Brad Tavares vs. Uriah Hall
Zane - Huge setback for Tavares, who had put a serious run together in the middleweight division. Now he’s kinda back to being another one of those guys who just can’t seem to climb from the edges of the top 10 into title talk. Lucky for him, there are a bunch of those guys at 185, and fighting them is the best way to make a case for getting another really big fight. Thiago Santos is coming off a rough loss, and a fight between him and Tavares would be a banger. If Tavares needs longer to recover and if Santos wants to fight again sooner, then give Tavares the loser of Carlos Jr. Vs. Derek Brunson. But, Marreta vs. Tavares should be higher on the list.
MIKE TRIZANO
Alex - This fight was garbage. Michael Trizano and Joe Giannetti should be sending Francis Ngannou and Derrick Lewis some edible arrangements for putting on a worse fight. Looking at Trizano’s options, I wouldn’t mind putting him in there against another New York native who’s coming off a win, and that’s Desmond Green. If the UFC wants to take their time with him, then the winner of Jon Tuck and Drew Dober could work, but I think Desmond Green is the better fight. Michael Trizano vs. Desmond Green
Zane - Not an inspiring TUF Finale performance from Trizano, and it appears he’s going to need a lot of slow-playing if the UFC wants to develop him as any sort of long-term future lightweight. ‘Violent Bob Ross’ is calling for his own fight to claim unofficial TUF champ status, but honestly I think that might be too much. Claudio Puelles is a former TUF talent himself, and he just got a damned impressive comeback win. That should be just about Trizano’s speed right now. However, considering his pre-UFC career was largely at 145, there’s probably a good chance he’ll be dropping back down in weight. If he does, then match Trizano up with Dan Ige.
BRAD KATONA
Alex - On the other hand, Brad Katona put on a solid well rounded performance in his win over Jay Cucciniello. I feel like it’s easy to put Katona against “Violent Bob Ross” Luis Pena, but that doesn’t feel like it’s needed right now. Enrique Barzola and Arnold Allen are on long win streaks right now, so they’re out. That leaves a fight against Wang Guan, Julio Arce, Dan Ige, or Alex Caceres. Out of those four, I think the 20-1 Wang is the way to go. It’ll be a good test for Katona. Brad Katona vs. Wang Guan
Zane - Like Trizano, Katona is most likely destined to drop a division quickly. He’d been down at 135 regionally before his TUF call, and at 5’ 6” he probably belongs there. If Katona wants to stay at 145, then I’d be up for seeing him take on Shane Young or Steven Peterson. Down at 135, however, a bout against Guido Cannetti is about as reasonable a winner/winner fight as he can get. It’s either that or jump in with Nathaniel Wood & Petr Yan and see if he can swim with top prospects ASAP. Cannetti vs. Katona is the safer play here.
ROXANNE MODAFFERI
Alex - Roxanne Modafferi will find herself moving up the rankings after beating Barb Honchak. Depending on the results of Liz Carmouche vs. Jennifer Maia and Alexis Davis v. Katlyn Chookagian, Modafferi could find herself ranked in the top six by the time August rolls around just by winning this fight. The winner of Davis/Chookagian match-up is going to fight Valentina Shevchenko for the title when she wrecks Nicco Montano. If Carmouche wins she’ll likely fight Sijara Eubanks in a number one contender fight. That leaves Jessica Eye as Modafferi’s next opponent. Roxanne Modafferi vs. Jessica Eye
Zane - I think the most sensible fight Modafferi could get right now would be against Jessica Eye. If she wants to wait, the winner of Alexis Davis vs. Katlyn Chookagian would also be not bad, but Eye feels like just the right bout at the moment. Now 2-0 in the UFC at 125, Eye presents just the right mix of better athlete with worse fight IQ that would give Modafferi a chance to shine. And if Eye wins, it’s another solid name in what should be a deservedly slow track to title contention – given Eye’s previous run of poor form at 135. Eye vs. Modafferi is the fight to make at women’s flyweight.
