Grogu likes Din’s mustache.
So I’m hella excited over the third season coming I just pray we get some more of Din’s feelings about his past, so I finally drew this little thing I’ve been thinking about for a while ;v;
I firmly believe wearing a helmet for your whole life is no reason to not style yourself like you want, so let Din have a mustache if he wants™!, but also I like to think he looks at himself on the mirror and can’t help but think of his dad :’) so he keeps the mustache.
Also pls let Din adopt Grogu and show him his face when they’re alone!!!!

[StarWars AU] [Citizen Din/Master Luke]
Din Djarin of Aq Vetina
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So, I let my imagination run wild, and here’s another Din Djarin AU!
What if young Din was still saved by a Mandalorian, but later reunited with his parents, who somehow survived the attack?
Din’s parents helped gather other survivors on Aq Vetina, rebuilt their home, and were chosen as governors. Din grew up learning about his own culture and became a promising young man who assisted with his parents' work. One day, to protect the newborn autonomous region, Master Luke Skywalker was assigned to Aq Vetina to act as their Jedi caretaker, and Din was given the responsibility to help Luke settle down.
Here are other settings for Aq-Din:
———
1. Din didn’t become a Mandalorian
So Din wasn’t trained, which resulted in his gentle and soft personality. He kept the mythosaur necklace given to him by the Mandalorian who saved him, it’s the only beskar Din has.
2. Din wears traditional Aq Vetina clothing
But I made it look more luxurious and ethnic with gold, shiny stones, and beads. I also created a custom where young people must wear a veil until they get married or reach a certain age. (I don’t want that veil to become a symbol of shame for those who don’t want or can’t get married, so they can simply remove it when the time comes. The veil is just for aesthetic purposes, like a peacock spreading its tail for courtship.)
3. Arranged marriage
Another custom I made up is that Aq Vetina people get betrothed at a young age, it’s not mandatory, but some traditional families still follow this rule, including Din’s. Furthermore, as the son of governors, Din was betrothed to another prominent and wealthy family for political reasons. Although Din doesn’t want this, he accepts it for the greater good of his homeland, until a Jedi master shakes his determination.
4. Claustrophobia
I always imagined Din having claustrophobia and a fear of darkness due to the experience of being hidden by his parents in that storage. I know this is a weak assumption because Canon-Din’s spaceship is confined as hell🤣, but my Aq-Din can have claustrophobia, which becomes a hindrance when Luke attempts to take Din away from the planet.
5. Heavy accent
Din is not proficient in standard language, so his communication with Luke is often somewhat clumsy, which may cause trouble at times, and he speaks with a heavy accent! (I have a thing for accents…🫣💕)
———
I will probably continue drawing this series because it was a lot of fun to draw Din in his Aq Vetina outfit, and I also want to have him wear different veils to hide his face. 😝

Early Dinluke AU where Obi-Ben Kenobi decided to settle down with baby Luke in Aq Vetina instead of Tatooine and the attack on Din's village got postponed never happened. I'd imagine Din is closer to Luke's age here (5 years apart?) and is thoroughly utterly DONE with this weird, yellow-haired kid who's sneaking out to podrace at the ripe age of 9.
Still, Din can't help but keep an eye out for Luke when old Ben's not around (and secretly be impressed with his racing skills).

Have some Aq Vetina/Mandalorian lore for my AU:
Mandalorians of Aq Vetina do not paint their armor, but they decorate it with engravings, this happens because in Vetini culture metal (of any type) is seen as the material of labor, fatigue and survival, and to honor its existence they engrave religious symbols into it, like prayers of good luck, of endurance etc. so the beskar'gam gets the same treatment.
Instead of using paint to showcase their life experiences, their beliefs, or their affiliations, they do so with their clothing. They all use the traditional Vetini red, to then embroider symbols and/or writings onto the clothing. The symbols can either be Clan insignia, various mandalorian symbols, Vetini prayers, songs, names etc.
Vetini mandos also prefer a more sedentary type of life, no flying across the stars or fighting on battle grounds, just a rather peaceful existence on the snowy mountains of the small planet.
Mando villages and Vetini villages have almost no differences between each others when it comes to life-style and routines, but there are of course some.
Mandalorians tend to prefer hunting trips, and have more fighting based festivals that they go from mando culture, they also have a different cuisine with many type of foods being a mix of the two cultures.
Since the first Mandalorians that came into contact with the planet centuries before followed the rule of "the helmet stays on", many Vetini/Mando communities there follow the same creed, with some differences. They can take it off when in mortal peril (head injuries etc.) or in front of close family members, otherwise it stays on especially around strangers or off-world people.

top 5 headcanons? Your own or just faves!
GREAT question so these are just the ones off the top of my head:
1. This headcanon for Mando teaching the kid sign language, and the kid communicating back
2. Not something I came up with, but I like the idea of Luke having permanent Force-lightning scars as a result of Palpatine using it on him in RotJ
3. Personal headcanon: I think Han Solo would have taken Leia’s last name when they got married: Han (at least in the movies) had no family ties to the name ‘Solo,’ it was the name the Imperial officer gave him when he enlisted in the military to escape Corellia. It’s the perfect description for a smuggler on his own who only thinks of himself and his ship (though eventually Chewie becomes a part of The Only Things Han Solo Cares About).
The most important thing about Han Solo’s character that I think many audiences and even official creators (INCLUDING GEORGE LUCAS SOMEHOW) seem to forget is that Han’s whole character arc is that he was NOT a good guy— He BECOMES a good guy. All of the tension surrounding him in the original trilogy is based on the fact Han Solo looks out for himself. His return at the end of A New Hope is predicated on the audience being surprised that he came back.
Each movie, there was no guarantee that he would stay or stick around when the going got tough. By the end of the trilogy, Han’s character arc has ended with him choosing to be a part of something bigger and caring for people beyond himself and beyond his circle of friends. Choosing to marry Leia means choosing to remain relatively sedentary and present for her (and by extension their family, friends, and the New Republic), and besides, what better way to throw people off the scent and protect yourself from your criminal past than by marrying into the royal and political-leading family?
TLDR: Han takes Leia’s last name after they’re married because he finally has a family he chooses to tie himself to.
4. Personal headcanon: Leia does not forgive Vader for what he became, regardless of whether Luke says he redeemed himself in the end.
Leia not only saw the war he led and the atrocities he committed her entire life, he enabled/directed the destruction of her entire home planet before her very eyes. Leia loves her brother, but she cannot reconcile what Luke says about Vader being a good person with the war criminal she knew him to be.
Bonus headcanon: I think in the sequel trilogy Leia should have been the one to see a vision of her son’s future and she should have been either the catalyst for Ben Solo leaving, or she should have been the one who said she saw too much of Vader in him as an adult and he had to be killed in order to be defeated, while Luke and Han should have been the ones trying to bring him back. Luke’s character in the original trilogy was defined by compassion and mercy even towards one of the worst people the galaxy had to offer, and Han’s character was defined by the people who didn’t give up on him and whose encouragement and support and willingness to see the good in him were the reasons he was able to become a good person.
5. Personal headcanon: I’ve had the idea since 2020 that Mando’s family on Aq Vetina were part of the Disciples of the Whills. I’ve liked the idea of Mando being connected in a non-Force-sensitive way to other lore surrounding the Force, and I’ve based it on the similarities in costume design and because I think thematically, the idea of exploring the Force through a different lens than the Jedi would have made a much more interesting and compelling story in what was originally a relatively independent TV show with new characters on a much smaller scale, exploring different parts of the galaxy.
How I understand the doctrine of the Whills is that it’s more trying to understand the direction of the Force as it tries to find balance in the world, and the result of those teachings means seeing how the Force working in others is what benefits people— In Rogue One Chirrut says “May the Force of others be with you,” which I’ve interpreted as “Yes the Force exists and has an impact on life and death, but because it is the connection binding every living thing together, it’s our choices and the actions we take and the connections we form that exhibit the Force, which are what will ultimately save us in the end.” Chirrut says “The Force protected me,” and Baze Malbus says “I protected you,” and they are both right.
In the context of The Mandalorian, I wanted to see what could have happened if the show diverged from the Jedi, who to be clear were a specific order of Force sensitive followers whose primary purpose was as protectors of the galaxy— The Jedi teachings weren’t just a belief system, they were combined with a martial art and specific learned abilities that were intended to be used to protect people. That doesn’t mean their way was the only way Force-sensitives interacted with the Force.
Long story short, I wanted Mando’s potential ties to a different part of Star Wars lore to be the gateway to exploring more of the galaxy that these stories were set in. I think it would have been a lot more interesting and would have freed up the story to go whatever direction it needed without being confined to the Jedi and prior source material

I just remembered about the post that Din Djarin had lost three places he called home, but I think he actually lost four.
1)The Covert in season 1
2)His home on Aq-Vetiina
3)Razor crest in season 2
4)His home on Concordia.
It is not confirmed, but the Armorer mentioned that they survived due to their presense on Concordia, but they needed to leave and I think that Concordia that is a moon of Mandalore is extremly close to it,so even if it had not been damaged in the Night of Thousand Tears,it surely was attacked later.

I know that there is something about how Din is apparently the family name and Djarin his first name but have you considered that canon a sandbox and I am throwing that handful out

Din Djarin has still never been angrier than he was when he thought Greef Karga's bounty hunters decimated his covert, yet those same Mandalorians turned their backs on him the moment he took off his helmet for his foundling... pain.

Once again, courtesy of the Star Dads Discord! 💚🖤 I drew another thing for the Luke-grows-up-in-Aq-Vetina-with-Din-AU by drawing a Dinluke version of baby Anakin's opening line to Padmé in Phantom Menace.
Transcript Below!:
Luke: "Are you an angel?" Din: "What?" Luke: "An angel! I heard the deep space pilots talk about them. They're the most beautiful creatures in the universe. They live on the moons of Iego, I think." Din: "You're a funny little boy. How do you know so much?" THE END.

angsty (?) hc for the deaf!luke fic:
the sign is from aq vetina, which din learned because his father went deaf from something (he learned once but forgot) so his whole family used it
the day of the attack, he was with his father and heard the explosions but his father didnt so they didnt leave - din didnt know where it had come from and his father didnt want to run in the wrong direction - until his mother ran up and grabbed them and they left
he got put in the hole because his parents saw the surge of droids coming. when he got put in, his mother heard the droid and turned to face it while his father said goodbye, i love you and was caught by surprise, not seeing din trying to sign at the thing behind him. but din didnt have a sign for droid - they had droids but to a child, the village's droids versus the droids attacking were very different things so he couldnt sign it. it wouldnt have changed anything
after that, din became a lot quieter, thinking his words had no importance. he learned that it wasnt true but it wasnt true in the same way it had been on aq vetina. home listened to him because they wanted to talk, the galaxy listened because they wanted a way in between his cracks. words became weapons
din kept up with his village's sign with paz and the armorer and whatever foundlings they found, but it slowly morphed into a tusken-aq vetina sign since it was easier to touch up on tusken sign than it was aq vetina's. what he remembered he wrote down to keep it as pure and unchanged as he could but 25 years is a long time so he had to adapt
then he meets luke who knows jack shit about tusken, or any, sign so he gets a chance to use his sign as he wants. and eventually it becomes their sign because no one else knows aq vetina sign any more. few people spoke it when din was a kid, and now its even fewer
thats as far as ive gotten while sitting in the doctors office but there will be much more in the fic >:)
