Are you ever planning on making a sequel for veteri-mycosis?
i have... a concept of a sequel
i have a bunch of disconnected scene ideas & no idea how to rope them together into a coherent plot. i do be thinking about it though.

hey sorry, i've got a maybe slightly unhinged question about veteri-mycosis but asking unhinged questions about ppl's fics/AUs is like my niche in the drecosystem so whatever. can dream communicate with sam through the skulk? i was reading a book about mycorrhizal networks and it seems like a thing that could be possible in the universe you've created, given what we know about IRL fungal communication and especially given that the skulk growing on/in dream is SAM'S, right???
:)
VETERI-MYCOSIS, EXTRA (??)SCENE(??) 1 read the full fic here
------------
Sam never saw colors before. He didn't even know how to imagine them, considering that no one's descriptions ever made sense.
Dream said that all the materials used for the main cell were dark. "Dark" wasn't a color per se, but a range of colors, and too much of it was disorienting for those with sight. Apparently. To rectify it, you could bring "light" into a space, which also wasn't a color, but it illuminated color where it existed. Dream needed light when he inspected the construction progress, but it didn't make the materials any less dark. It made no sense, really.
"Don't worry about it," Dream told him, "In all fairness, you probably get around better than I do."
It was possible to look at something and determine its beauty. Apparently. To a human, nothing could be beautiful in the dark unless it engaged another sense, like sound or smell. Music was still beautiful in the dark. Dream once said that the sculk had teal, glowing parts to it, and that he was able to find it beautiful.
Sam knew every puddle on the west side of the city. He knew when the frog that was hopping around in the north was frozen in place by sculk, and he knew the moment it died of suffocation, its lungs overtaken. He knew it all, and he never "saw" it. He never even "heard" it, really, or "smelled" it. He just knew. And it was beautiful.
It was helpful, honestly, when the sculk started to overcome Dream. Could there be a better way to monitor your prisoner? There wasn't much to monitor; he barely moved, and he eventually lost the energy and lung-power to engage in some of the things he used to do to entertain himself, like sing. Things could be beautiful in the dark if they engaged another sense, like sound. Sam listened, and it was beautiful. When it stopped, and Dream was so well claimed by sculk that Sam could sense his heartbeat from anywhere in the city, it was also beautiful.
In the midst of battle, Sam lost track of that heartbeat, but he received something else.
Visions of color; fuzzy and non-specific, but vivid and alive. Visions of pain, visions of panic, visions of crying and of being held. Technoblade's voice. Warm food and tea. The soft fur of dogs-- much like Fran's.
Could there be a better way to monitor your prisoner?
(Dream had frequent flashbacks to the prison. More than just the prison; he had memories of the city itself, of the places he'd visit when the prison was still being built, of sculk-ridden buildings he thought he never stepped foot in. He knew his memory was ruined, but it still seemed odd. In these flashbacks, he wasn't even holding a torch. He walked around like he didn't need them.
There was a frog that was hopping around in the north that was frozen in place by sculk, and he knew the moment it died of suffocation, its lungs overtaken. The soft fur of a dog-- much like Em's. He knew. He knew.)
He knew.

The main cell stood in the center of a massive, light-eating pit, which Sam tells him goes all the way to bedrock. No way to survive the drop...Every damn day, Quackity could enjoy flying across a dark pit too deep to be touched by the light of his torch, approaching an obsidian tower that rose from its belly made of a material so dark that it almost blended into its surroundings, like an obelisk.

How many works do you have on Ao3?
12 total.
2. What is your word count?
146,611!
3. What fandoms do you write for?
I write only dsmp at the moment, but i've also posted naruto and devilman.
4. What are your top 5 fics? (stats)
in the wild all lessons last
the trees deny themselves nothing
pandora's vault prisoner symptoms
veteri-mycosis
awakening
5. Do you always respond to comments? Why or why not?
i don't respond to comments unless there's a specific question for me (ie "is it okay if i make fanart of this"). i read every comment and they make my day, i just never know what to say and i get too stressed over it!! i also don't like how the author's comments will skew the overall comment count.
6. Angstiest ending for a fic?
that would be veteri-mycosis.
7. First Fic with a Happy Ending?
my very first fic, technicality, has a happy ending. so do most of the sasodei fics besides long roads.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
nope! i might've seen someone vaguepost about itwall but it was so vague it was hard to tell.
9. Do you write smut?
i've tried to write it before, but have never posted! i'm actually not the best at it.
10. Do you write crossovers?
nah
11. Ever had a fic stolen?
i don't think so!
12. Ever had a fic translated?
no, but it seems pretty cool
13. Ever co-written?
i have not! but most of my fics are brainstormed with @3nderm1te. they had the most input on veteri-mycosis.
14. Favorite ship?
c!doomsdaytrio!
15. What's the WIP you want to finish but probably never will?
man. i want to keep adding to prisoner symptoms, and i will if i can ever find the inspiration, but it hasn't hit in a while. after a time, the symptoms pile on each other and it's hard to think of scenes that separate them out.
16. Writing strengths?
i'm very comfortable in my "voice" as a writer and can make it Work For Me.
17. Writing weaknesses?
my emotional scenes fall flat. consistently. and although i'm decent at plotwork for short-to-mid sized pieces, it's difficult for me to make a coherent plotline for longer pieces.
18. Thoughts on dialog in another language in a fic?
i think there are ways to do it where it will still make sense for non-speakers or not fully interrupt the reader's experience, but it's tricky.
19. First fandom you have written for?
naruto! my sasodei phase was long, dude.
20. Favorite fic you have written?
tough question! i think itwall is my Ultimate Baby, and the fic i think back on the most fondly. i also think that awakening is my objective Best fic.
Thanks @morgueofstories for tagging me :) i always forget who actually posts to ao3 and don't want to tag someone who doesn't, so consider yourself tagged if you want to do this.

If you had to title each itwall chapter, how what would you title them?
oh god
i'm really bad at chapter titles unless there's a gimmick or pattern, you know? i.e. veteri-mycosis and prisoner symptoms.
since itwall is named after "fellow in the north" by cold weather company, i'd probably go through the lyrics in order and try to make it make sense. like this:
chapter 1: far from the shame of the sedentary game chapter 2: i began to find truth in my task chapter 3: i'll never blame chapter 4: for i'll never be the same chapter 5: in the wild, all lessons last chapter 6: deep in the trees where the beggar finds his peace chapter 7: in the arms of a knotted helm chapter 8: i could reclaim what i knew of my old name chapter 9: and return to the head of the helm chapter 10: i left with nothing chapter 11: life for the bluffing chapter 12: fled to the forest chapter 13: northward-bound chapter 14: i was humbled by the stars chapter 15: and you were hollow from the start chapter 16: i was humbled by the stars chapter 17: and you were hollow from the start chapter 18: i was humbled by the stars chapter 19: and you were hollow from the start epilogue: here in the cold, i will live the life i choose as the fellow in the north

writing patterns tag game
tagged by @elmhat :) thanks elm
Rules: List the first line of your last 10 (posted) fics and see if there's a pattern!
limiting this to dsmp fics for this blog. i don't have 10 posted on ao3, so i'll use some longer drabbles posted to tumblr as well.
one-two-three
“Whoa, Technoblade, what--”
2. in the wild all lessons last
“Careful, Techno,” Philza said firmly, “Mind his head.”
3. Pandora's Vault Prisoner Symptoms: An In-Depth Reference Guide
Technoblade set the blueprints aside, letting the pages shuffle against the obsidian floor before they settled into a heap.
4. the trees deny themselves nothing
“Techno! I can walk! You saw me walk, like, two minutes ago.”
5. veteri-mycosis
Quackity tapped his foot against the stone below him. “Sam,” he said, “this is fucking ridiculous.”
6. beautiful bones
“Ya know,” the young piglin said, his voice shaking as his teeth clattered, “I’m actually not sure this is any better than where I was.”
7. blood upon the snow
Chex was the biggest ram in the barn.
8. cuddling with dream and the many possibilities, scenarios, and obstacles you may encounter. don’t let him read this. a guide by technoblade.
i’m about to blow your minds with how complex this is.
9. all these lives and you’ve never learned a damn thing.
there’s only one, rotting book in the basement of philza’s cabin that tells the whole story.
10. the various skills of philza minecraft and where he learned them.  a collection of the half-lost memories of an immortal.
basic medical procedures:  he was around 350 years old when he stumbled to the doorstep of a village doctor.
i had such a regular pattern of starting with dialogue that i consciously tried to stop...
i have no clue who was tagged already.. um @chrysalizzm @maybe0rdinary

6 and 12
6. Is there a c!dream scene/moment/action you would change?
hm... at the risk of ranting here, i think that c!dream and c!philza's interactions were nerfed because of the negativity cc!phil was getting. c!philza wasn't as caring towards c!tommy as some people like to think, but the lack of interactions with c!dream made it seem like c!philza took c!tommy's side completely.
my evidence:
c!philza comforting a kid who ran crying to his doorstep is realistic, for sure. i'm convinced he would do that for anyone who cried to him. he's a kind old man. but his advice later on more or less held undertones of "have you considered that you're the problem" and i even saw some inniters saying that it wasnt super supportive of c!tommy's lifestyle
c!philza and c!tommy briefly interacted during the finale, when c!tommy stated that he was about to do something very dangerous. c!philza gave him some armor and sent him on his way. that's NOT the actions of someone who legitimately cares and isn't as protective as we've seen c!philza acting in the past; if c!techno said the same thing, c!philza would insist on coming with him. it was a kindness, but it wasn't a display of love.
c!tommy betrayed c!techno. c!philza isn't about to forget that.
12. What do you think c!dream's limbo/limbos would have been like?
well, we know that it looks different depending on how you die and the kind of life you lived, right? yet all limbos kinda look the same. all of them have a sense of loneliness, and of waiting.
(spoilers for veteri-mycosis) in v-m, since there was an obvious parallel with wilbur's death, i put him in the same limbo. the only apparent difference was that dream was still pain from the wounds that killed him; i was hoping this would mirror how self-inflicted everything was.
i'd be interested in a limbo where he watches the server go on without him, or watches c!george's dreams without being able to interact. kind of like c!tommy's limbo in reverse. OR, more symbolically, a limbo where c!dream is searching an endless library with infinite information in it.

i've been stuck in bed for a while with a perennial fatigue issue and it's nice to have your fics to read. not a lot of fic out there where the main character's stuck in bed a lot of the time. i really appreciate it <3 (ps if you have any fic recs... especially for stuff like you write... eyes emoji)
thanks, and best wishes to you :) i'm glad to hear that. sometimes it helps to read about characters who are in recovery, esp characters who are struggling to recover or are deemed "unworthy" of recovery (whether others have deemed that, or they've deemed it themselves. or both). you're always worthy of recovery, and of being patient with yourself as you do pursue it.
honestly, most of my biggest fic inspirations are outside of the dsmp fandom..... i brought a lot of the tropes that i loved from my past fandoms and applied them here. i had some other ppl ask me for those fic titles regardless, so i'll put them under a cut if anyone is interested. some are dsmp, some are not.
raise me up and pray for forgiveness by caydiink (dsmp): i love fics that contemplate severe medical situations, and here's one where cdream is immortal and has been drowning for 15 years. reading this in the middle of planning veteri-mycosis convinced me to go further with the body horror.
awakening by jr_filiux (devilman): this is literally just my own fic i'm sorry ;-; it was pretty successful and i carried some ideas from it into itwall. basically, a character sprouts wings overnight and it's painful and terrible, and just when they think it's over, more keep growing.
the color red by rifa (dragon age 2): cdream enjoyers (and prison arc enjoyers specifically) would like fenris, and i will die on that hill. red lyrium is an infectious, crystal-like material, and this fic is a cool look at how it functions, how a major infection would effect someone, and what recovery might look like for them. you would notice some similarities with veteri-mycosis.
the phantom's curse by gen (ace attorney): lawyers in a pirate au. awesome plotwork, and i was OBSESSED with the last few chapters. almost wrote a fic inspired by it where i went into more detail. if you read it, you'll see what i mean.
