after serving most of his twenty year sentence, enver flymm is given another chance at life. he’s older, wiser and less likely to involve himself in the criminal underworld he slipped into as a teen. part of his parole conditions is to attend weekly group therapy in order to rehabilitate him and help him learn new social skills and be a part of a community. he doesn’t expect to find someone he never knew he was missing there (or: the chosen of bane and the chosen of bhaal find each other, centuries after they were forced apart, with no gods to hold them back)

chapter 1 - restart

In all of his time being locked up, Enver had no plans on what he would do once he got out. It seemed like such a distant thing to think about so he never did. There was no need to waste his time with fantasies that were so far in the future the world may have completely changed by then. He was not a daydreaming kind of person. Instead, he kept his head down and made sure that when - not if, because he is getting out - he gets out he’ll have enough skills to get by so that maybe he can have a normal life. Keeping to himself meant that he would also be alive by the time his sentence is up.

The day is here, arriving like any other. When the sun rises, he wakes with the rest of the inmates. He eats a mediocre breakfast and hands out what little commissary he has to those he doesn't mind being around. After waiting for around an hour or so, his name is called and he’s packing up his bunk.

And that’s it.

which....i know realize isnt much of a ranking at all and it's just me having my First Place Favorite and everything else is at the backseat HAHAHAH

first place, my tot OTPs of all time: tie between lukerosa and mariluke. of course. marilukerosa also because thats just the best of both worlds

lukerosa is the canon ship that owns my heart, while mariluke is the delusion that has completely consumed me. i write way more mariluke than i write lukerosa, but thats mostly because theres already a Lot of food for lukerosa, both in canon and fanwork-wise. meanwhile, mariluke is technically still a rarepair so i focus more of my own fanwork creation energy there.

theyre both wildly different ships but i adore them so much. lukerosa is simply so fucking well written, particularly during their pre-1st anniv to 1st anniv era, and their themes and tensions were immaculately executed.

meanwhile mariluke is just so damn good. hyv accidentally made two dudes who were two sides of the same coin and have insane chemistry together and also have complementary themes and roles. like, they rotate in my brain ENDLESSLY. and the mariluke shipping community is very dear to me, ive met many many dear friends though this ship and i owe a lot to it

lukerosa and mariluke my beloved //blows a kith to them both

everything else thats second place: luke/nxx polycule, luke/vyn, luke/artem

these are ships i enjoy but im not as insane about them. i like reading fanfic of them and discussing them, but theyre not like....they dont rotate in my brain like a rotisserie chicken 24/7. like, im not obsessed, the same way i am with lukerosa and mariluke.

still, it makes me happy to see them and read works of them!!

Hi love your art first of all. Wanna ask what made you decide to write a fanfic about avina. I Gotta Know.

omg thank u... honestly i couldnt give u a straight reason HAHAH ive always been an avina defender (solely because i dislike it when characters are hated bc they 'get in the way' of someone else), but it wasnt until chapter 3 where i stopped being a defender and started being. fascinated by them. i dont defend them anymore, ive simply accepted that theyre delusional and toxic and codependent and thats WHY im so enamored by their character <3 i want to study them like a scientist putting a bug under a magnifying glass infamous' strong points has always been getting you to feel strongly for its characters, whether thats positive or negative and i think avina is a great example of that. to me, theyre very fascinating because it seems that everyone is so hellbent on hating them but theyre .. pretty milquetoast? yeah, toxic and delusional and embarassing, but nothing crazy. besides that, i think its fairly easy to understand why they are the way they are just by reading in between the lines- they have a close relationship with their mother with no mention of a father, and the way they talk about their siblings makes it feel like they mightve been the eldest. classic storm for a savior complex mindset.. avina serves their role in the story to be a parallel to what MC was. they are dependable, loyal, and would do anything for seven, would never betray seven the way MC did, so why isnt seven happy? @dry-ketchup 's incredible fic abt rowan and avina running into each other 5.2 Miles to Friendship was also a huge inspiration since it got me thinking: what IS avina like outside of seven? weve only received scenes with them and seven, and it really got the ball rolling for me... finally: as is present in my fic, i think the contrast between avinas sickly sweet 'fake'ness and my mc's blunt honesty is really fun! they were just a dynamic that i couldnt stop writing, the conversation just flowed really easily as i was writing/thinking... all in all its very self indulgent but im very fond of avina (yes even with the way i talk about them here) and i enjoy them and my mc a lot

Starlight, Starshine; an impenetrable disguise

its finally happening! i came up with a name for this little fanfic/one shot series/whatever this is going to be! obligatory title is ripped from a steam powered giraffe song (go listen to starlight starshine, its literally sun+moon x reader core im begging you) anyways! Starlight, Starshine is going to be a collection of self indulgent writings between our favorite animatronic and reader! from multiple different aus, though it will mostly center around 2! one au thats "everything is fine nothing bad happens please i just want them ALL to be happy" and the other is a silly dumb idea of "what if reader who used to work at the pizzaplex takes eclipse home and repairs them and ect ect happens"! todays little fic is based off of that! im so sorry about the long authors note, i really need to make it a habit to shorten these but yk obligatory admin is not used to writing fics and theyre still trying to find their style in terms of writing so ! most of these one shots also arent going to be in order, due to the nature of this being a collection of writings for at least 2 aus so for the most part theres no need to read them all to understand a greater story!

Summary: Months after the reader brings Eclipse to their home and repairs them, sun and moon must get accustomed to their new environment. however sun has some plans...

Extra notes: this one is primarily sun centered, reader has a dog, author is attempting at comedy, not proof read we die like men so expect a few grammar mistakes and spelling errors, a lot of this one shot also contains more context and exposition (???) to the "Taken Home" au referenced above, author is not confident in their writing skills and hasnt written a full fledged fic in a year or two, author also isnt used to writing proper dialogue so take that as you will, reader is GN/typically wont be given pronouns due to authors general writing style/POV, he/they pronouns for sun and moon they /them for eclipse, really this is just an experimental piece with a vague idea i had last night, nothing too special more so an exercise to get me back into writing, author is still trying to figure out how to write personalities so these are very likely to be OOC

The first word that came to your mind when describing Sun was "odd". He looked odd, he acted odd, he had odd rituals that he carried out in your home. However it wasn't a bad kind of odd.

It'd been a few months since you took the former daycare attendant to your home, and repaired them. You had already grown close to the pair long before the closure of the pizzaplex, being an extra set of hands in the daycare. You didnt even know they were still active within the building when you decided to explore the remains; already taken on the form of Eclipse, who at the time of your discovery was trying in vain to clean the wreckage. Of course repairing them wasn't easy given you had limited experience in... basically rebuilding an animatronic; but against all odds you made it work! You let them take the guest bedroom, not that either of them used it; they would much rather spend their time hovering around you.

It took a lot of getting used to, for everyone involved, but you were all adjusting quite nicely!

Mostly...

You see, Sun didnt like being cooped up.. your home being considerably smaller than the daycare he was so used to. Leading to todays horrible plan.

"Sunflower," You said through lightly clenched teeth as you watched the sun themed animatronic tug on an oversized hat. He really couldn't be doing this... this wasnt going to work, no one is this dumb to fall for this plan!

The plan in question? Well, Sun thinks it would be a good idea to wander about outside in a "disguise" of sorts; said disguise consisting of the aforementioned hat, sunglasses, a face mask, and a entirely new outfit. Obviously, it looked at convincing as it sounded.

Sun hummed and spun on his feel to look at you, already putting your dog on a leash. "Yeeees starshine?" He asked as he scratched your dog between the ears. "This isnt a good idea," You mumbled as you watched him make his way to the door. "Nonsense! There's hardly anyone out, it'll only be a quick walk around the park!" Sun cheered.

The second word that comes to your mind when you think to describe Sun, is "stubborn", as when he made his mind up on something you can almost guarantee that he would follow through with the plan. So now, you were following behind him, keeping your eyes peeled for anyone who could see him. If he weren't so tall, or if he could tuck his rays in, or didn't emit a mechanical creak with every step he made then perhaps, the plan may have just worked... perhaps.. maybe..

No, it wouldn't, you can see his metal neck from where you were standing.

"Remember, only one lap," You reminded him as you succumbed to his will, much to his delight as his pace picked up just ever so slightly.

To his credit, he was right about not many people being out and about, mostly in part due to the fact it was still early in the morning. Just light enough to keep Sun in control, but just early enough for most to still be sleeping or still getting ready for work. However, the park wasn't empty, mostly it was early morning joggers; who thankfully didn't pay much mind to the two of you outside of giving a half wave as they passed.

There were even a few parents around with their small children walking with them; be it they were walking them to school or simply taking them to take in the early morning air... Sun's body seemed to perk up at the sight of the children, loudly greeting them with a good morning; leaving both them and the parents slightly bewildered at his high energy.

There were others, who had decided to also take their dog out for an early walk. The people once again weren't an issue, as they seemed to miraculously fall for Sun's disguise from a distance.

Their dogs weren't fooled, though. Multiple dogs began to bark and growl as they passed by. "Oh I'm so sorry, I don't know what's gotten into him!" was said a few times throughout the walk. Again, the owners somehow didnt seem to notice the fact Sun was an animatronic, mostly due to having to restrain their dog from lunging forward at him.

The closest call, however, came from Sun excitedly taking up an offer for someone to pet their dog. For you see, Sun didnt think far enough ahead to cover his hands, thus leaving his hands in clear sight. Add in the fact that the dog bit Sun as he leaned forward to pet them.

Of course, the man noticed, and before he could say a word or question, you blurted out that it was a prosthetic hand. Though, you're not sure that the man bought it, as he was now craning his neck up to look up at Sun's round, flat face.

He slinked off. Whether it be he didn't have the energy to deal with it, or he simply just didnt care, or somehow believed you, he left.

Thankfully, that last interaction happened as you and Sun were beginning to loop back to where you started. Before Sun could begin to beg for a second round around the park, you started to walk him home; hand in hand.

"Oh that was so so fun! Starshine we gotta do this more often, everyone was so nice, " Sun chirped as you approached your front door. In his excitement he had begun to skip in long strides, forcing you to speed up your walk to a light jog.

"Yeah, again... maybe we can go earlier in the morning? You know we cant risk anything, I mean, if I get caught with you I could probably get sent to," You trailed off as Sun suddenly shoved something into your hands.

A handful of flowers that he had pulled up from the ground, he must have grabbed them while on the walk. How did you not notice? Were you that nervous of being found out by others?

A third word to describe Sun would be sweet. Even through his oddity and stubbornness, he still thought of you. Always so considerate.

Now that you think about it, you realize this may be the first time Sun has touched a real living flower.

You frowned, slightly. It made sense, he wasnt permitted to step foot outside of the pizzaplex, and its not like many people were giving him bouquets of fresh flowers. Usually if they did it'd be the obviously fake plastic ones. Sure, sometimes the kids would give him paper flowers.

"Can we go again tomorrow?" Sun asked as he watched you fumble around with the cluster of flowers... some were weeds, but.. its the thought that counts.

"Of course, Sunflower," You said before you could let yourself think logically.

Well, there was no taking it back, now. How could you, when Sun quickly stamped his heels in excitement as he dashed inside your home.

Perhaps you'll pick some flowers for him tomorrow, too.

M - whats the weirdest scenario/au you've come up with? Have you actually written it?

Oh my god this is hard bc like how do you define weird. I think I've gotta give the shoutout to my long-running No Magic au of my original fiction, which is where i put all my really self indulgent wish fulfillment stuff for my ocs that wouldn't work in canon, purely because the implication that their lives would have been so much better if magic didn't exist is really funny. Also because in the no magic au Dezzy keeps on with her career in the theater and so I get to imagine all the shows she would have been in. If it weren't for all the magic. I havent written any of this bc there isnt a plot to the no magic au its just vibes. Like half of it is just me imagining the kind of twitter discourse there would be about my ocs if they were famous.

J - whats your favorite trope? Have you written it?

I loooove soulmate aus sorry im bad aromantic representation but they r so good... Like okay just to be a hater for a second but I think a lot of people are really unfair when they talk about soulmate aus and it's soooo clear they've never read any. Like it's actually pretty common to have aro characters and explore the aro experience in soulmate aus (altho theyre usually side characters) like if you don't like reading romance in general yeah its not gonna be your thing but in my experience the complaint that its insta-love or some kind of existential horror that forces potential aro people into relationships is just completely baseless. People will say "i would only read soulmate aus if they explored xyz" and then list things which are major themes in like sixty percent of soulmate fic. Ppl who write soulmate aus aren't idiots. They are in fact aware of and capable of addressing the Implications. The Implications are actually half the fun.

Anyways hater moment over. Yes I have! DM soulmate au is very precious to me. Like Daniel and Armand are literally soulmates you don't get it. Normal IWTV is already a soulmate au. To me.

B - what was the first fandom you read fic in? Wrote fic in?

Oh god I think the first fandom I read fic for was Undertale way back in the day. They had some diabolical shit going on in that fandom. And I don't even mean like sex stuff undertale fic writers loved just absolute nightmare angst fics. Flowey is Not a Good Life Coach fucked me up. Really good tho 10/10 do not regret.

And then the first time I ever wrote fic was for Wolf 359 because the finale fucked me up and i just lay awake in bed for like a week with that fic on a loop in my mind until i finally got up and wrote it lol. Actually very funny hypocrisy on my part because i saw a poll of least favorite fanfic tags and was almost gonna vote fix-it fics and yet my first fanfic WAS a fix-it fic..... Anyways i mostly dont read fix-it fics bc i like messy endings and my wolf 359 fic was a "goddamnit you do NOT get the clean separation of dying, get back here and answer for your fucking crimes" fic.

I just wanted to tell you I love your Go peepaw go works! All of them were hot, the directions of your fanfics are something I never expected but I really love it (Larry being pillow princess, whiney & needy Hassel, Brassius being the bottom), reader's personality with how they act towards them especially how they got both of them together XD It's funny to me because I'm also low-key jealous that two attractive men are very much out of my league too! So the fact you have an idea of both Brassius & Hassel are trying so hard to hint to them that they want to date him while they accidentally bumped into them & two Pokemon attached to them too is something that made me so giddy because they would want me when I won't even think that they're interested at all XD I don't know why but I also love the idea of Pokemon being so attached to me! one time a fan half-jokingly asked anisa for Her autograph instead of mc's. she was flustered but still signed it and sent a grin their way. she couldn't stop smiling about it for the rest of the day

she's there a lot when mc is opening fan mail . she finds it interesting and loves seeing what they think of (and also what sometimes unhinged items get passed to them)

End of Year Review

What fandoms did you create for?

Hetalia! Although I did post some memes for other fandoms but I'm not sure if memes count...

How many works did you make this year? Fics (posted on ao3 or tumblr or wherever), edits, gifsets, moodboards, playlists, fanart, vids, meta?

12 fics and 1 gifset (and I think about 2 or three drabbles on here if I haven't privated them)

What are you most proud of?

I'm most proud of my most recent fic because I actually forced myself to take my time with it and be patient and actually do a bit of research which was surprisingly fun. I'm also really happy with this fic because even though I didn't take as much time as my most recent fic, it's quite a personal fic to me. I'm also happy with my French revolution fruk fic (mainly because it's an idea I've had for a while) but I do want to go back and change a few things at some point

What inspired you this year? Any specific works or creators?

I get inspired by the most random things. I suppose lockdown helped me come up with some ideas but I wouldn't really say it inspired me. I've read a bit of fanfic that's inspired me (not as much as last year, though, I've been a bit lazy when it comes to reading this year)

What’s a piece you didn’t expect to make? Why?

Everything I came into this year not really expecting to write much and a lot of my writing is very spur-of-the-moment and I don't really tend to plan ahead too much (which is something I plan on working on in the new year). I suppose if you want specific pieces, this fruk royal au drabble isn't something I expected writing at all. That au in particular is very self-indulgent so I always intended to keep it to myself but maybe if I finally get over my intense fear of judgement and general self-consciousness I'll finally write about that au more. Another is my engportfra series which I didn't expect to write this year because the au didn't even exist before September of this year and was thought up randomly one afternoon (and is another that I'm struggling to pick up again but will try to eventually)

What are you excited to work on next year?

I have a few small fics in mind for some other ships I like for Hetalia, and I'm hoping to participate in TGGTVAV week this year! (because I need to get back into it, and get the new book now that its out...)

now im not quite sure if you want only writing tips or writing blog tips, so ive included tips and tricks for both!

WRITING BLOG TIPS :

have a masterlist. this might seem stupid and obvious, but ive seen people with no masterlist. people are lazy, so if they cant access your writing easily, they will just click away.

have a clean theme. aesthetics are important. they are. people love clean and easy to navigate themes. again, people are lazy, so if you make it easy to click through your blog and get to your writing, youll increase the chance of people reading your stuff!

how to get your work show up in general. putting links in your fanfic might lead to your story not showing up in the search. ive also heard that a banner thats too big can cause that. even using too many tags can lead to your work not showing up. its complicated.

the first five tags. im sure youve heard abt this already but the first five tags are the tags that will actually show up! so if someone follows #bts fluff and you tag your fic with that, your fic can show up on people's dashes as a recommended post!

tag accordingly. speaking of tags, please tag accordingly! theres nothing more annoying than finding a jimin fanfic in the taehyung fanfic tag. i really discourage you from mistagging your stories. if im scrolling through the taehyung fanfic tag and find a jimin fanfic, it makes me want to not read it. just tag your fics accordingly.

reblog your fics. i mean it. seriously, reblog them as much as you want! people live in different time zones or sometimes forget abt wanting to read your stuff, so reblogging it consistently for a week or so to get it on people's dashes helps!

teasers and taglists. i recommend doing both! teasers help to get people excited for your story and taglists ensure that people will read it, or at least remember to!

dont stress abt notes. now, this is less of a tip but rather something i just really really really want to tell you! i know youve heard this before, but please do not stress about notes. tumblr fame does not exists! it doesnt matter if your writing gets 2 notes or 300 or 5k notes! i do understand how getting a lot of notes can be motivating (every fics deserve all the love in the world by the way!!) but in the end, it should not be your motiviation to write. focusing on notes will ruin writing for you. it will. the amount of notes your fic will reach has nothing to do with how good your writing is. dont let something as superficial as notes ruin the fun of writing for you. its seriously not worth it! write for you and no one else!

WRITING TIPS :

write self indulgent fics. i seriously think all fics should be self indulgent. writing fics should be fun, so please write whatever you want! also, theres no such thing as an overdone trope. if you want to write a fake dating enemies to lovers fic, please write it! you might think there are already a bunch out there and its not worth writing another one, but youre wrong! there isnt one out there thats been written by you yet. go write it!

make playlists. now this is a bit specific to me because im absolutely obsessed with music, but making playlists that fit the mood of the fic has always helped me while writing and gotten me out of writers block before!

take your time. writing is freaking hard and when writers block hits, theres rarely ever something that you can do. try not to stress too much abt it! it happens to the best of us!

balance dialogue and detail. its important to find a middle. if im reading a fic and theres paragraph after paragraph after paragraph of detail, the chance of me just skipping that part is really high. because even though i love detail, it does get boring. so use dialogue to spice it up!

reading. okay, this sounds weird because youre asking for writing tips, but reading seriously help your writing so much! if you wanna improve your writing skills, reading a lot is going to be key. now, im not saying reading is necessary, but i do think that it can help you to better! whats even more important though is that you try to analyse people’s writing while reading. when i say you should analyse people’s writing, i do not mean you should write an entire analysis of a book, but to take a second and think to yourself how the authors just did that. how did they convey oc’s sadness? why did they just describe the weather? whats the purpose of this scene?

switch up sentence/paragraph length. shorter sentences/paragraphs = emphasise something and pick up the pace. longer sentences/paragraphs = slow down the story and allow for more detail. its important that you do a mix of both. utilise the length to your advantage. a well placed short sentence/paragraph can pack a lot of punch and turn your sad story in a heartbreaking one.

outline your fics. look this is very personal again because some people dont like to outline their fics, but i recommend outlining your fics. and when i say outline your fics, you can do it as little or as much as you want! it can be a few notes, or a long list of every detail you want to include. i just want you to know where this story is headed. its so easy to write yourself in a corner and trust me, you dont wanna end up there.

allow yourself to be free. this connects to the previous point i just made. even though i do recommend outlining your fics, i am also a firm believer of taking the story somewhere else if you feel like it. ive scrapped complete outlines before. half of the scenes i write also arent in my outline at all. you dont have to stick to the outline. if you think that a specific scene would add something to your story, then please go ahead and write that scene. just always remember where youre headed and dont loose focus.

have fun. i just really wanna reiterate this point again. its just so important to me that you have fun while writing! seriously. its just fanfiction. it should be fun. go crazy. i support you!

18. What are you currently trying to improve on?

in terms of fanfiction, nothing really kJBJBSKG. my motto with fancontent in general is that i do it for fun and also in the most self indulgent ways possible. like, yes, i do enjoy improving on writing fanfic, but i dont go in with that intention omg. i go on to write my silly little stories about my silly little faves UwU

in terms of original writing (both fiction and nonfiction), uhhh, EVERYTHING LOL SKJFBD but i do have specifics kjbdf

for my fiction im still on the same damn thing i wanted to do years ago: i want to use fantastical worlds to explore and understand the experiences of our real one. like fantasy and sci-fi and magical realism not as a jaunt into the unknown for the sake of jaunting into the unknown (which is great! not saying it isnt, jus saying thats not what i wanna do) but as a way to like...delve into real experiences that feel almost too much to be real. grief, guilt, hatred, love, all that jazz. i only have three (3) posted original fiction works (which you can read here!!!) but when i do get back into it, i will be working on this concept and how to get better at it.

for nonfiction, hooooo boy. i'll tell ya, im at a Point, in my nonfiction (and i have a bunch of these posted, u can read them here!!) writing journey where i am just like. so confused kJBKJDSF. like. i dont know what im doing with my nonfic anymore. and i dont know what i want to be doing with it moving on. this is part of why ive fallen into such a slump with it because im very very lost right now lmao....this is gonna come off as pretentious, but if i dont have a core purpose for doing something, actually Doing It becomes nigh impossible for me //puts my face into my hands. id honestly love to have a chat with some of my former nonfiction profs and ask them, hey, help, what, huh, ack, thoughts? but alas, im terrified of all of them KJBKJDFS

What was your biggest writing/reading achievement this year?

im glad that im still writing in the first place tbh. ive read more fanfic this year than i have in my entire life for obvious reasons. but im glad i finally wrote an angst piece for the first time in my life. also almond poppy see muffins is my literal child (as well as @enchantedamusedslightlyconfused ‘s, we co-parent)

What did you learn about yourself as a writer/reader this year?

i learned that my reader inserts are more of me inserts and that isnt necessarily a bad thing considering i mostly write for myself, i had just never thought of that. also slightly nsfw but i learned that reading smut makes me sleepy?? so i started reading smut before bed lol

Did you dive into something familiar or try something new this year?

familiar: yeah fluff is like a go to for me in whatever fandom. new: DEFINITELY i started writing for kells in 2020 (can you believe) and i also started writing for spencer reid :) many nice new things

Share a comment (if a writer) or story (if a reader) that lifted your spirits this year?

i love every comment people leave me (i also read all the tags) and i compile all the ones that i like to look back on with the tag #beautiful people on my blog, but ive also been told by a couple different people that they re-read my stuff which is insanely mind boggling so yeah

as for stories theres two mgk ones i go back to whenever im going thru a rough time: fit by my side by @angrylizardjacket and vegas run by @harringtonstudios

as for criminal minds, ive got my bookmarks on ao3 for my favs on there but my ultimate favorite writers are @reidscanehand and @write-orflight who are only on tumblr as far as i know so i felt like i need to include them :) anything these two writers post i will read no questions asked 

What are you grateful for?

in general? being alive and healthy. but a lot of good things happened to me this year (as well as some really really shitty stuff but oh well). the best thing that happened to me this year no doubt was meeting @enchantedamusedslightlyconfused i love you with my whole heart jordan 

im also grateful for kells, he helped me in a way no artist ever has. if u had asked me a year ago if i even liked rap i would have laughed in ur face i kid you not. he changed me along with so many things this year and i truly feel like im the best version of myself that has ever existed

im also eternally grateful for content creators, musicians and youtubers and designers, but specifically fandom content creators. if ur reading this and u r one, know that i am so grateful for you.

Have your style (writer) or tastes (reader) changed this year?

im not entirely sure? i feel like with every piece i write i get better. in the sense that its a bit more realistic than when i first started writing. i know my fluff pieces are insanely fluffy and out of reach and very fan girly i truly understand, but it used to be so much worse. so overall i feel like my writing has gotten more realistic, which im proud of.

as a reader, i hoped i could see the appeal of angst this year but i dont think i ever will.

What’s the first thing you want to read or write this year?

i dont think i wanna have writing/reading goals this upcoming year. 2020 was the worst year of my life, but just cuz the clock struck midnight on the 31st doesnt mean that the shit show is over. so i hope that if i do continue writing this year, i do it when im ready. 

Anything new you want to try in 2021?

writing wise (again if i even do keep writing this year), maybe work on some ocs. ive never done that before. itll probably still be incredibly self indulgent but something new. and possibly write a few more soulmate!au’s because those bring me such joy

What is your total word count on AO3?

160,546. I had forgotten all about the AO3 stats page until having to dig that out, oops. I have more short drabbles etc on tumblr as well (and a LOT of stuff I just... never finished/posted anywhere).

How often do you write?

varies hugely depending on what else is going on in my life. In good times, I aim for daily, at least 500 words. During years I participate in NaNoWriMo, 1500-2000 per day in November. Other times I just can’t make even 500 happen with work/etc. Still more other times, my depression kicks in and I’m pretty useless at everything, and unfortunately go months with no writing at all. 

Do you have a routine for writing?

I try to write in several short bursts. If doing 500/words/day, then two chunks of 250, and some editing/planning on top. If during NaNoWriMo, 4 chunks of about 500 words each. If I really push myself to get them done in sections, I spend less time fiddling around, but the break between them makes it still relaxing/fun.

I also have a computer/document setup that works very well for me. I write on a laptop that can scroll between several different ‘desktop’ screens. I have one for fun stuff, and set one aside for writing. The only browser window/tabs allowed to be open on that desktop are writing-related ones--research, youtube clips of scenes, wiki articles, etc. All other fun stuff goes on the other desktop where it can’t distract me while I get through a section. Then over the browser I have two word documents: one on the left titled “[StoryTitle.docx]”, and one next to it titled “[StoryTitleNotes.docx]”. On the left is the “final version” of what I’m working on--aka the working document, with the most current edits/chapters/etc. The right “Notes” one is for outlines, summaries, lines I had to delete but might want to use somewhere else, passages I haven’t gotten to yet but wanted to sketch out before I lost the inspiration for them, quotes that I want to echo the feel of, copied dialogue from the game so I don’t forget it, etc etc. Anything related to the story in the working document that I might want to reference. The notes doc can be fairly messy--my level of organization for it changes from project to project. But it makes it WAY easier for me mentally to delete and tweak things when I can put them somewhere else just in case it turns out the first way was better. 

What are your favorite kinks/tropes/pairing?

Ohh... my pairings are pretty obvious, I’m really into Lavellan/Solas, Hawke/Fenris, and Shepard/Garrus. 

But what I’m really into is Hawke/the concept of found family and also various coping mechanisms+mental health issues; Lavellan/the weight of duty above all else, Shepard/the giddy knowledge that you won’t survive what you have to turn yourself into in order to save everything you love, Ryder+Sam/breaking the boundaries of what it means to be a single conscious entity...  

my big literary kinks are pretty much any narrative that has to do with one or more of the following: self-sacrifice, the transcendence of humanity in pursuit of a goal, the knowledge of the futility of one’s actions, the duality of self plus other, the terrifying and terrible beauty of rage, stubborn and violent perseverance in the face of insurmountable odds, the frailty of people who nonetheless fool everyone into believing they’re not broken. I am also a very big fan of nontraditional formats, and the meta-narrative of a story over usual structure. 

tl;dr: I like my fiction weird. 

Like... I recognize that most of my fics. Do not include a majority of these. And the ones that do aren’t really very popular. The one that gets closest to these concepts is probably the people you love become ghosts inside of you, and like this, you keep them alive which very few people read and got almost no attention. But I knew that when I posted it. I wrote it for me, after finishing the ME trilogy for the first time. The above tropes show up way more in my original writing, while I use fanfiction as a break from these more complicated/heavier themes, and to just have some fun with less technical writing. They’re there, just in smaller doses.

Fics with that sort of bend are WAY harder to search for than ones based on pairings though so like... if you have recs for anything that follows the above themes. please send them to me. i’m dying. please. 

Do you have a favorite fic of yours?

How can I not answer this with Fallout from the Fade? It’s my baby. It’s the longest thing I’ve consistently written, without getting bored and abandoning it halfway through. It will probably take me a while yet (depending on mental health/writing pace/etc) to finish but I know how it ends, and most of how to get there. It’s also the third fanfiction I had ever started writing. The beginning feels rough to me when I go back to it (which an inevitable fact of my decision to post as I write/not use beta readers, which I still think was the only way for me to do this story), but I still think a lot of my ideas were clever and my execution may not have been perfect but it was pretty good. I’ve learned a lot while writing this fic.

And also I love to make people suffer. Knowing that people have shed literal tears because of things i have written fills me with the delightful glee to push forward. 

But really. Comments mean the world to me. They spur me on through rough patches where I otherwise abandon works. I’m really not used to having an audience: most of what I’ve written in my life is original content that I don’t post/share. Having other people also invested makes me feel accountable, in a good way. 

Other honorable mentions: I think Grief is one of my best fics in terms of execution and balance. Less a man than a wild cat and A Slip of the Tongue were both exercises in pacing/timing as well as forays into the highly unfamiliar territory of comedy. The aforementioned the people you love become ghosts inside of you, and like this, you keep them alive satisfies my eternal desire for weird presentation and ideology taking a front seat over narrative structure (I have like. 4 other partial fics similar to this that will probably never be posted because I know they’re what I want to explore, not what other people actually want to read).

Anything you don’t like about your writing?

I wish I was more consistent about sitting down and working. I managed it for 6 straight months when I started the fanfic gig, but to be fair, during that time I also had no friends and spent 5 days every other week camped out in Death Valley with no internet and nothing to do but write and brainstorm. Having the barest scrapings of a social life now that I’ve moved doesn’t do much for wordcount, it turns out.

Now something you do like?

I think I can write about mental illness realistically without it coming across as either overdramatic or idealistic. I like my descriptions, when I allow myself to use them (y’all don’t want to see how flowery most of my works would be without my self control). I have visibly improved since I started writing in 2015.
