1. nemu’s affectionate but not in the saya way where it’s sugary sweet and loving. it’s very much a deep understanding of someone and knowing what to say and what not to say. she is very in tune with her loved ones and knows just the Right kinda things to say / send when their mood is down. additionally, with the kids, she’s affectionate in the vodka aunt kinda way. she doesn’t dote but she will support and advise as best as she can. she’s encouraging in the Firm sorta way.

2. this isn’t really a headcanon but more an inspo board. i pull, for nemuri’s aesthetics and for her personality, a lot from 90s bad bitch vibes. so, halle berry’s catwoman, lucy liu’s role in charlie’s angels, reese witherspoon’s legally blonde. that’s the kinda overall Vibe i project onto nemu in general and it’s really important. i feel like her personality and my headcanon costume for her coincides with these aesthetic vibes really well.

3. nemu’s also very much a ‘embrace ur femininity if you want’ kinda gal. and she really enjoys the combination of feminity and practicality in a hero costume too. she was a bit more ‘outwards’ with her early costumes but i feel her current one is her most comfortable and most ‘appealing’ in general. when it comes to students who want to embrace that femininity she really helps them out to find that balance without like compromising practicality and usefulness to one’s quirk.

4. nemu’s academic standing is currently a masters in art history with specifics toward gender studies + contemporary heroics. she is working toward her doctorate but it is very much at a ‘snail’s pace’ and she does it primarily online. she will fully finish her doctorate around her mid to late thirties. most people aren’t aware of this until she’s completely done with all her education. again, this is due to her private nature and her ability to keep her personal details close to her. she’s extremely passionate about her work and it reflects throughout the manga and how she teaches the kids.

5. nemu’s parents are actually her biggest supporters and some of the most cherished people in her life. they both are artists and she inherited a lot of her love for the arts through them. however, between the two, her father has influenced her the most. her outfits, her persona, even her outlooks are based off of his interests and his passions. he is a game designer and works at a top company in tokyo, but he is nearly obsessed with ‘vintage’ games. the bayonetta game series was something nemu took from a lot as a young girl, and it influenced her as she grew up, especially in her persona and how she chose her costumes. bayonetta was her hero in her mind, and she wanted to emulate that same energy the character provided for her.

6. nemu leaving home has nothing to do with her parents. in fact, it has everything to do with her desire for independence. nemu, upon graduating, would study in japan for her undergrad and then study abroad briefly to aid in her grad studies. she got her own apartment close to the university and she studied while she also continued with her hero work. i can’t stress how private she is and how much she values that privacy. it’s very important to her and to this day she will fiercely protect it with every ounce of her being.

7. despite nemu’s outward sexuality, she isn’t going to shove it down people’s throats. in fact, she has boundaries and sticks to them furiously. she values the idea of personal preferences and limits and she herself placed some for her own sanity. she’ll joke and play with adults but when it comes to children and those who ARE uncomfortable with that sort of thing, she won’t mention it. she is very aware of her surroundings and tries very hard to make people comfortable around her.

8. i feel like people perceive nemuri as this extremely open individual who has no filters but, she really does have a skill of making people think they know everything about her without knowing nothing at all. the only people who really, truly, know her is the friends she knew growing up. her circle is small and she enjoys keeping it like that. she can be loud and outspoken but she generally talks about issues that she cares about and less about herself. she talks about the students with passion and encouragement because she wants them to change japan for the better. she herself wanted to influence how people thought of heroics based on her own experiences (vigilantes, 60). she has this prioritizing of the Bigger Picture as opposed to herself. her role as a hero and as an educator reflect that, and she takes that responsibility very seriously. she is a very layered individual that presents this very 2D version of herself on the front but has a very multidimensional underlayer.

9. the gas she releases has the distinct scent of lavender perfume. she is constantly exuding some degree of it, like the passing waft of a very pungent fragrance, but in larger doses it is overwhelming. at its most concentrated i would compare it to diffused lavender essential oils. lavender is known to be a sleep aid and its only natural that hers carries that pungent scent. additionally, the shade of the gas isn’t that fanta-grape-purple pink in the anime, but rather indigo leaning more on the purple side, very similar to the actual shade of lavender. visually, nemuri’s gas is considerably more like a haze. similar to a morning dew rather than a heavy gas. it allows for easier stealth work but in larger doses, such as her ‘pushing’ a heavier smoke amount, she can knock out a greater amount of people.

10. nemuri’s thesis read like academic erotica but it was literally the most entertaining and frankly, the most well put together paper the university of tokyo’s art history department ever saw. love her.
