Did they ever actually specify who named Jason in any of the books? I can’t remember, but I thought it was just a sort of vague mention of why he was named Jason, as opposed to a concrete “Dad named you because / Mom named you because” kind of explanation?

So now I’m thinking, wouldn’t it be super cute and bolster the only ever implied sibling bonding if it was Thalia that had chosen his name?

Like, loads of older siblings get the opportunity to weigh in on picking baby names for younger siblings anyway. And if we can presume that Thalia had a similar situation to Annabeth in that her mortal parent was fully aware of their godly hookup and was very open about that with their kid and Beryl told Thalia lots of stories about the mythology, or like Piper she got interested in the stories and dug around on her own.

Then Thalia is like, what, seven or so years older than Jason? Totally old enough to have ideas and comprehend at least simple story ideas, but still young enough to work off the easy little kid logic to solve problems.

So she’d have been old enough to notice Beryl beginning to get anxious, beginning to get a little paranoid. She’d hear her mom talking about them being in danger, especially her baby brother to be, and all because Juno was mad at her brother before he’d even arrived.

And she could be reading stories and suddenly the answer presents itself and it’s so simple. And she asks to call the baby Jason because Juno liked and protected the original Jason from the Argonauts story. Therefore little kid logic demands that Juno likes Jason, so if they make her brother Jason, Juno won’t be mad at him anymore when he arrives and will like him too. Problem solved.

It would’ve been the very first time she ever protected her baby brother and she probably didn’t even know how much it had protected him from an angry god. And he hadn’t even been born yet.

I've been reading Exodus lately and I've just gotten to the portions where God gives the first commands to the people via Moses (twice), and then goes on to give detailed instructions about the tabernacle and how it should be built, and I'm just... we think art is unimportant?? we think things only mean as much as their functionality?? we so easily fall into the trap of believing that beauty means nothing, that it's cheap and only worth whatever mindless distraction it brings, that it's barely more than a cheap sensual thrill, that buildings should just be practical and plain and cheap, that everything should be functional but ultimately disposable, that paintings and dresses and mugs and curtains and carpets are just pretty but have no real value, that beauty is fleeting and vain and therefore shouldn't be thought about too much, if even looked for at all... we fall into these traps so easily, and we forget that there are chapters upon chapters of painstakingly detailed plans to build one portable worship tent, and those plans have been handed down through thousands of years of human history, because beauty and art and skill in craft is important

This wasn't his first time at an event like this, but no matter how many times he attended, he would always feel out of place. Wealthy aristocrats and politics, all things he'd never cared for. No, he wasn't here for any of that.

He eyes those around him, looking for a prize to take back to the temple. His gaze finally falls on long white hair and striking red eyes. Oh this one was gorgeous, he always liked the pale haired ones, the blood always showed up so nice in contrast to white.

He was quick to approach, seeing the elf bat his pretty little lashes at him. That was all the invitation he needed.

"Oh, you were? I suppose I should feel honored. You have the prettiest eyes, you know." He lets the other take his hand, liking this ones boldness as his hand is placed on the others waist. He would take great satisfaction in having a bit of fun with this one first, and maybe he would keep his head afterwards. He had such a pretty face, he could enjoy it for a while longer and he needn't worry about rot so long as he used a little Gentle Repose.

Feeling the other elf press close, he finds himself struggling to keep his demeanor. But no, patience was required here, they were at a party and he owed him a dance first at the very least. As he looked at him more closely, he notes the blood on his lips and he fights the urge to lean forward and lick it off. No, he could wait.

"Whatever you like, my dear." He doesn't want to admit that he was enjoying the reversal of roles at the moment, that it felt like he was the one being seduced instead of what he'd come here to do.

also, i went to see across the spiderverse with my best friend who’s also my roommate. he haven’t seen into the spiderverse yet and he is not a fan of comics in general but he figured i’d use some company. and this movie stimulated my neurodivergent ass so much i had to physically restrain myself from telling him all the comic references and stuff that at one point we had to hold hands so i could squeeze my energy out without disturbing him or anyone in general. a true friendship between a neurodivergent sapphic with a hyperfixation on miles morales spidey and a clueless gay man who was just happy to be there.
