Honestly, the only thing that had kept him going was the need for survival. He's already out cold from the sheer amount of walking and pain he's been in since his exile, leaning into the horse.

Yun used his magic to bring North into his lap, wrapping him in a blanket as the stallion turned and headed back to the palace. The prince looked down at North and sang a soft lullaby he had known all his life, promising North that he would have his revenge against Heaven. But for now, it was best that he rests and gathers his strength.

I feel like I've had the same experience several times now: someone does a new translation of a non-English literary classic, and all the critics praise it to the moon, so I go and try to read it, and it's turns out it's just . . . bad? Like, really bad? And weirdly bad?

A while back, I wrote about the case of Pevear and Volokhonsky. Here's another example, which I encountered while doing background research for my novel Almost Nowhere.

One of my novel's major characters is a literary translator, famous for his rendition of the Persian epic poem Shahnameh ("Book of Kings").

To help me write this character, I tried to read the Shahnameh myself. I started out – where else? – with the translation that seemed to be the gold standard, and which was certainly the most critically lauded.

Namely, the 2006 translation by Dick Davis, in prose with occasional shifts into verse.

Here's how the Shahnameh begins, in Davis' translation:

What does the Persian poet say about the first man to seek the crown of world sovereignty? No one has any knowledge of those first days, unless he has heard tales passed down from father to son. This is what those tales tell: The first man to be king, and to establish the ceremonies associated with the crown and throne, was Kayumars. When he became lord of the world, he lived first in the mountains, where he established his throne, and he and his people dressed in leopard skins. It was he who first taught men about the preparation of food and clothing, which were new in the world at that time. Seated on his throne, as splendid as the sun, he reigned for thirty years. He was like a tall cypress tree topped by the full moon, and the royal farr shone from him. All the animals of the world, wild and tame alike, reverently paid homage to him, bowing down before his throne, and their obedience increased his glory and good fortune.

And here is the same opening, in the 1905 translation by Arthur and Edmond Warner (which I only discovered much later in the process of writing Almost Nowhere):

Now, I can't speak at all about the source text. I have no idea how faithful or unfaithful these two translations are, and in what ways, in which places.

Still, though. I mean like, come on.

This is an epic poem about ancient kings and larger-than-life heroes.

This is a national epic, half myth and half history, narrating the proud folkloric lineage claimed by a real-world empire.

There is a way that such things are supposed to sound, in English. And it sure as hell isn't this:

Excuse me? That's your opening line? I thought I was reading a poem, here, not taking a fucking AP World Literature exam!

Omega Spider socorro

Part 2

Just some random thoughts that I have to let it out LOL. Platonic only, no romantic relationship!

Humans have alpha/beta/omega just like in the Omega verse but Navi doesn't have that. So when the first time Jake enters his Avatar body he feels really nice that can't smell any pheromones of omega and alpha, it has been bothering him for all his life.

After the great war Jake almost forgets about secondary gender until Spider is around 8 (I'm not sure the age when children show their secondary gender) He has normal check up and turns out Spider socorro is an Omega.

That freaking the hell out of Norm and Max like being a Quaritch child is hard enough and Spider is now Omega! Norm belike nah he doesn’t care who his father is, he's gonna take care of Spider until the day he dies. The McCosker? They don’t care about Spider anyway so Norm just nominates himself to be Spider guardian instant of McCosker. After that the scientist becomes like a mama hen that watches Spider every step. That makes Neytiri really confused about their sudden change.

So Jake basically has to explain Spider secondary gender to his mate and children. Neytiri found it ridiculous how Sky people treat other people with their secondary gender, how they only see that not the whole person but Neytiri didn’t care a lot because it is not something irrelevant to her family.

One day that Spider is going in the forest and suddenly Heat, he radio Norm and that makes hell break loose. Jake and Neytiri have to find him before something bad happens and when they find him it makes both Navi shocked.

Spider is sleeping on the pile of leaves while the other animal from Pandora surrounds him and cuddles the child, including Atokirina. That almost gives Jake a heart attack and when he tries to get closer at Spider the animal suddenly growls at him. He feels like the animal is trying to protect Spider like mama Thanator protects her cub. It makes Neytiri amazed and confused at the same time that why Eywa sent the animal to protect this demon child.

It turns out that Omega pheromone has the similar smell like the animal in distress so that is the reason why other animals were there cuddling and protecting him until he calmed down. After that incident whenever Spider enters the forest there alway be at least one animal that comes to check on him, sniff at him and leave, of course Sully kid (except Kiri) found it pretty weird. Neytiri is gaining new feelings for Spier, she feels like if Eywa accepts him then she will try to see him not as demon son. 

I just want to write some Omega verse fanfic but didn’t know that on Pandora they have the same thing. So I just went like only humans have and Navi doesn’t have. The animal part I thinking about Eywa see the Spider suddenly collapse and freak her out so bad that she just send a bunch of animal to protect him LOL because on Pandora they doesn’t have ABO so she really freak out a lot after that she still paranoid and send some animal to make sure he is ok.

Had a question about who our favorite Zenigata partner is in a server I'm in and now I can't stop thinking about them. Tis the zaza sickness.

anyway here's literally all of the characters Zenigata's been partnered with that i could find (within reason). if anyone wants to elaborate on any of these guys (cough yata cough) please feel free to go absolutely ham. *(obligatory spoiler warning for a whole lotta lupin specials, waow-- notably zenigata keibu since that's probably the most unwatched of everything i cover. but if youre here im guessing youre as unfortunately well-versed as i am so LETS FRIGGIN GET INTO IT)

Starting off nice n' mellow. I'm pretty neutral on Yata, tbh. I just think he's neat and it's easy enough to write him and not much else. I've rambled about him being a stand-in for the viewer before, but overall i just don't have all that many thoughts on the guy (seriously someone please do yata). ironic considering he's hands-down the most prevalent sidekick to date, but alas. head remains empty.

MARIYA. Mariya my girlie oh how i love thee. finally, someone with a Gimmick on par with Mr. my-sword-can-cut-anything. Plus she's super sweet and smart and sharp and just an all-around endearing character. AND SHE'S DIFFERENT!! she's tagging along with Zenigata of her OWN FREE WILL like gurl what are you THINKING. there isn't a shred of coherent interview material to draw from this man, especially about Lupin. The dynamic they end up developing is on point, though!! Zenigata's initial total miscall of it aside, It's just plain ol' wholesome. If Yata's his surrogate son than Mariya's obviously his daughter. No shot in hell they don't at least keep in contact after the special's done. plus her snapping a pic of him every time he eats shit is peak comedy journalism

MOTHAFUCKIN' MELON COP!! an absolutely magical reefer-smokin' shitbag, especially in the edgy Tokyopop translation. He's a great foil to our otherwise serious(ly neurotic) manga Zenigata. Not to mention the combative potential with a down the line Melon.... ough. A more toned-down "newer part"-esque Zeni getting slapped with an extremely smug and insistent reminder of his angstlord past is such a delicious concept to me. i will be using this guy extensively in that exact way one of these days-- he's too fun not to.

a bit of a sidenote but i've gotta point fingers at gray jacket again (can't recommend it enough) for having my favorite melon depiction in fic; walther recently had him show up in their fic secondhand vanity as well (which i also can't recommend enough), so needless to say i think he has some fun potential.

Sakuraba and Kunikida from the live-action show get honorable mentions, obviously. They're both so different yet learn so much from Zenigata all the same. As far as reacting to the inspector goes, they're the ideal Yatas (again i am so so sorry yata-- surely someone will do you justice). Even though they aren't technically "new" to the force they're new to the Zenigata Shenanigans, and that is where the entertainment factor is. Sakuraba's the traditionalist keibu method-doubter whereas Kunikida's this mousey blue around the gills fella, and over their respective case file appearances, they both gain faith in/learn confidence from Zenigata, respectively. It really is a great bit of development to watch play out.

I'm gonna count The Guys™️ as a collective group/formless mass with maybe one of the Guyest of Guys as Zenigata's right hand Guy, like that one dude in Cagliostro. Apparently the name he's given in one of the dubs is Sam?? That's neat. Sam's neat. for anyone interested in some homework, here's the link to the highly informative lupin forum thread i found that out from: [x]

But yeah the Guys! Right from the start, Zenigata having this army of inexplicably and absurdly loyal cops was always a fun trope and i love to see 'em whenever they show up. I had this idea ages ago for this fake documentary-style miniseries based around them-- all the usual Lupin nonsense goes on in the background while we get a peek at the typically unseen shenanigans happening on the law-bearing side. Getting assigned to the lupin taskforce is probably seen as some kind of punishment, but that just makes the camaraderie all the more tight-knit. There'd be some behind-the-scenes Zenigata/how he interacts with them, what they get up to on their own whack case assignments when they're in a Lupin sighting lull.... hell maybe we even learn why they're all so damn loyal to this one supposedly hyper-independent guy. I think it'd be fun but maybe that's just the Zenigata hopeful in me. Surely he's capable of building some semblance of rapport with the fine group of folks he drags around the world with him....

Let's just rip the band-aid off-- I dislike Oscar with a burning passion. which is weird, right? because i like Melon Cop, the dude who's totally cool with straight-up cold-blooded judge/jury/executioner-style murder. I dunno dude the obsessive daddy kink simping's just too feckin' weird for me. i checked the hell out so fast. If the goal was to make Oscar extremely disquieting, they friggin' did it. Granted he was written to be a bit whack from the start, and getting raised(?)/mentored by THAT Zenigata would irreversibly mess anyone up. I get that the fucked up-ness is part of the appeal, but man. How anyone can gravitate towards Oscar without heavily modifying his whole deal escapes me.

I've seen him written tolerably in fic maybe... twice? He's in gray jacket (there it is again!) and SMRO (needs no introduction nor explanation), so obligatory kudos to anyone who can wrangle [gestures vaguely at all of that].

Vicky though. Vicky Flannigan from Island of Assassins is so goddamn funny. Still can't believe they took one of the most badass Zenigata character designs and actively went out of their way to make him bedridden. I've seen folks call him "Proto-Yata" and. Yeah. Can't argue. He's a glorified babysitter, if anything, and the only reason he's even remotely effective is because he (accidentally) broke both of Zenigata's legs. Funniest shit istg

ICPO LADIES!!! They're cute. Designs could be better but it's Babylon yknow. Despite being an admittedly fun romp, the special has its obvious.... uh. issues. product of its time and all that. iykyk. anyway LADIES. They're competent. They take No Shit from Zenigata. The random little crush that comes out of nowhere between Chinjao and Goemon is cute as hell. Plus, I've seen some pretty rockin' fandom redesigns floating around.... wouldn't mind in the slightest if they made a comeback.

I'm gonna lump all of the Betrayers into one category: Emily O'Brien from Angel Tactics, Kazami from Fuma Conspiracy, and Terry Crown from Alcatraz Connection. Never expected the "Zenigata's partner is the bad guy!!1" trope would be so prevalent, but it tracks in retrospect. It's a neat enough idea-- bummer they never seemed to nail it down, though.

The only reason O'Brien is so predictable is because she's so goddamn unlikable. There's hardly any screentime of them working together and in every single scene, the incompetency just feels so blatantly intentional its almost offensive lmao. Zero surprise in the slightest when she showed her true colors-- just mild annoyance, which tracks for the whole special tbh. Only worthwhile parts are the beginning and the end, and absolutely none of that has anything to to with O'Brien.

Kazami just has that chump secondary villain face y'know. Again, a bit on the nose how obnoxiously dorkish he is-- but them playing up him putting on his glasses so Fujiko can recognize him got a little laugh outta me, ngl. He served his purpose, plain and simple.

I'll never know whether Crown was predictable or not because I stumbled across ""Evil Columbo"" before I watched Alcatraz, but despite the spoiler I can at least say he isn't lame as shit. Pre-reveal, he's probably the closest we'll get to a taste of what Melon might be like in modern Lupin media. He's your run-of-the-mill corrupt sleazebag detective-- steals evidence, generally doesn't give a fuck, takes cheap jabs at Zenigata-- but their final standoff is what puts him above Kazami for me. Just a real melodramatic overdramatic moment of Zenigata Zenigata-ing his heart out.

Welcome to the ELDERLY MEN CATEGORY, OORAH. The old guy from Twilight Gemini, Kogoro Akechi from the pilot, and George McFly from First Contact. I could track down Gemini old guy's name, but I hand-to-god couldn't care less. The only worth a damn thing Gemini's given me is that one jigzeni screenshot, so we're just gonna move on to the next two.

Not much of Akechi, huh. He only shows up in the pilot and doesn't do anything of note besides be someone for Lupin to disguise himself as. Dare i say Goemon was a more effective ally to Zenigata than Akechi...? yeah sure, why not. Goemon's a zeni sidekick. i'll die on that hill. anyway I believe he's also a reference to a pre-existing character...? like Lupin, Goemon, and Zenigata are. All in all its probably for the best that he didn't make it to part 1.

Finally, the only old guy that actually has aspects to talk about. I actually really like McFly and the role he plays in First Contact; it isn't Zenigata learning from whoever his partner may be, but McFly learning from Zenigata. He's a jaded, on-the-verge-of-retirement type that thinks he's seen all the force has to offer, but here comes this young (is he considered "young" in this?? early, maybe) freak-ass foreigner cop with a vendetta he's practically frothing at the mouth to rectify. Neither of them are exactly enthused to be working together, but McFly sticks around anyway and learns to see past a lot of Zenigata's first impression baggage; the tenacity, the passion, the genuineness of it all. Not only does he want to make real change, but the crazy bastard can actually friggin' do it. ...Or at the very least make a sizable dent.

Zenigata sincerely adheres to the idea of what a cop's supposed to be, fundamentally, and not what a "cop" actually is, as a vague collective occupational concept. Zenigata has a genuine effect on McFly-- enough to make him just the slightest bit less soured by the end of it all. It's a nice sentiment; that no matter where you are in life, ideas can still change. It's a small arc that flies beneath the radar of everything else, but i noticed it. I FRIGGIN' NOTICED IT, MAN

tl;dr Zenigata's a lonely guy, sure, but he doesn't have to be.

That should cover all of the significant parts/specials/movies, but if i missed anyone (any notable episodes? manga?) lemme know. Either way, it's nice finally having 'em all in one place.

Ideas for a FALLOUT verse :

i'm gonna ramble here but i wanna get What I'm Thinking out.

OPTION 1 :

Jessica's Fallout story is very similar to how her life starts now ⸺ only, instead of Hydra that's employed her parents, it's the Institute. Researchers in genetics that would be very interested in some Big Brain Biologists like the Drews. Perhaps they're wanted for their research into irradiated spiders ( we don't see any mutated spiders iirc?? so like, maybe they survived pretty unaffected, stayed normal, and maybe that's why they're being researched on? 🤷‍♀️ ), or perhaps not and they're just normal biologists and one of them is more than willing to use their daughter as a genetic guinea pig.

She's poked and prodded at as a child, perhaps even still while she's developing within the womb. She's got a slight immunity to radiation ( decently so, but not entirely safe from it as i'm not looking to Ghoulify the gal ).

Does this make her some sort of mutant by Fallout standards? Just lacking the FEV? Something instead of the FEV, really. I suppose, sorta kinda. And I might touch on that.

OPTION 2 :

I mean, I mean, look at Fallout 4's main storyline and look at what's happening to her in her comics right now ⸺ her son is abducted by an evil organisation, goes on a wild hunt and stops at nothing to find him. ( Replaying the game rn with her as a character, and every time she sadly says something like "I need to find my son, they've abducted my boy" it's a GUT PUNCH ⸺ TOO REAL RN )

I'd make her married to someone random, and I'd rename Shaun to Gerry.

If I go this route, a more Fallout 4-esque story not a one for one, I'm gonna work her being a detective for Nick Valentine in there somehow. I can't not do that. Everything else is so perfect already, how can I leave that out too? ( in his Raggedy Ass Columbo Jacket and all <3 )

Either way, some KEY THINGS I wanna hit:

She's a bounty hunter.

Her weapons of choice? Modified biker gloves charged with fusion cells, looks like lil electrified balls firing as she uses them. As well as a pistol fitted with a laser attachment that she's affectionately named her Venom Blaster. ( Think Pew Pew from FO:NV. ) I was gonna go with knuckle dusters but I like the biker gloves more. Suits her. Plus that means she's got some sort of range on them like she would her real venom blasts. How do they work technically? I'll get there.

In lieu of her pheromones, she's got high as all hell charisma. Could charm the dew right off a honeysuckle. And, if possible, some way to work in the Black Widow perk from New Vegas, 3 & 4.

She'll be younger than she is now ⸺ instead of being typically 28 - 32, I'm taking her down to 24 - 28.

There's a brief, and I mean very brief, period of time in the comics where she smokes. I'm bringing that back for this verse. Pay her in caps, or depending on the job, a pack of smokes. If you wanna gain some points toward her good side, bring her a pack out of the blue.

-it all started when the new kids came to town. Jeff had already been at school for a couple of days and the human equivalent of a feral alleycat caught his eye.

-she was interesting to say the least. She looked rough and tumble and very clearly lived a hard life. He watched her from a distance and found it fascinating how she interacted with others. Yet there was something...raw, powerful, and darker behind her eyes if you just barely scratch the surface.

-what really made him make a move was when he saw her do a flying kick to Spencer's face after he was picking on liu. Jeff automatically gained some form of respect for her. Now she was his equal and he made his move.

-it didn't take long for them to start dating. Tabby could use the protection of the weird kid since she had many enemies at school. He could fight for her. She loved how he wasn't afraid to be himself especially with his crazier and darker tendacies. He was protective and possessive. Jeff thought she was amusing and actually pretty cool to be around once you get past her general awkwardness and feral mannerisms. He liked that she had a morbid sense of curiosity and he greatly encouraged that. Most of all he loved how she didn't have the concept of fear. It was like it didn't exist to her and she never showed it.

-his obsession with Christy is VASTLY different from his obsession with Tabby. Christy he had no respect for and it was about power and objectification. With Tabby there was a sliver of respect there. He deemed her as his equal. It was more about owning and protecting what he thought was his. He likes partners that can beat him up if they wanted to

-although there relationship had always been toxic and rocky with Jeff being crazy, controlling and violent and Tabby being hard headed, spiteful and violent right back at him. They were relatively cute together. Tabby knew that Jeff liked quiet places more so their dates would be Tabby showing him a bunch of nature trails or off beaten back roads. Jeff knew that Tabby liked to go out and about since she rarely got to thanks to her stepdad. So once in awhile he would take Tabby out to the arcade or a hole in the wall lunch place. They even went out for ice cream once. Often times though their dates would consist of sneaking out and causing chaos and vandalism.

-They were very passionate with each other. Tabby is very touch starved and Jeff always made sure to be touching Tabby in some way. Either holding her hand, have his arm around her waist or shoulders. Judy absolutely adores Tabby and thought that she was a nice sweet girl. Liu also adored Tabby and had a puppy dog crush on her. He thought she was so cool that she stood up for him and he aspired to be like her. Louis thought how the hell did his son land that? But at least one of his kids was being straight.

-Tabby skipped school and work as often as she could to stay at the hospital room that Jeff was in after he got beat up by that gang. She would tell him about her days, the latest bullshit going on at home and at school, the dates she planned for when he recovers and how much she misses him and that she can't wait to see him again.

-The Night of Murder was a doozy to her. After her family locked themselves in their room leaving tabby all alone to protect the house and herself Jeff breaks in. After some back and forth, her trying to convince him to kill her step-dad and he's just not getting it and some hard truths. He asked her to run away with him and Tabby said no. So he decided to spare her as payback for the flying kick to Spencer's face. Gave her one last harsh final kiss goodbye.

-nowadays sometimes if Tabby is walking home from one of her late night shifts at the diner he'll kill off creeps for her but she never truly sees him just a shadow that disappears in the alleyway. Or he'll just stalk her to make sure she got home safe

important notes. readmore for length:

gunsmoke doesn't happen; instead the SEEDS ships land on the planet gaia. knives and vash are born roughly a year before the coordinates are chosen and input into the pilot program. they're roughly 2 years old when the ships land on gaia.

humanity begins colonizing the planet.

monsters are discovered, and in an effort to combat them and survive on their new home, experiments splicing plant dna into human dna begin using adult volunteers. success rates are high and the experiments are considered a success. there's now a mix of pure humans and cetra; cetra is the name they give the human-plant hybrids.

rem, wanting to be closer to her sons and understand them and their needs as plants better, also volunteers for the experiments. (unknown to anyone, a virus in space managed to infect one of the plants on board. at this time, the virus only affects plants. the plant rem's spliced dna comes from is an infected plant. this becomes the first strain of the newly named geostigma when it's discovered, but it is assumed they caught and eradicated the disease before it was a problem, not knowing.)

at some point within the next couple years, vash and knives get older and start exploring this new world at rem's side. they wander north, and something or other happens. rem, in an effort to protect the twins, loses control of the new powers she's gained as a plant hybrid and there's some sort of explosion or such. it's never clear even when they tell people what happened; regardless, the north crater results from the accident, and rem is sealed within an icy cavern below ground.

knives and vash are the ones to create the cetra of the watch; the intention for this is that when rem finally reawakens again, someone will always be there and ready to help her rejoin the world. the twins themselves resume traveling and living among humans, both to occupy their time and bc they think rem would prefer them to live their lives instead of sitting around waiting for her. most plants somehow end up in the crater via unknown (to everyone else) means.

time passes. cetra dwindle and only pure humans remain, somewhere along the way the history gets warped. rem's existence in the cavern gets forgotten by all but the remaining watch and even their stories somehow warp and shift so that they believe they're guarding against a calamity from the sky, instead of being there as guardians meant to protect and eventually reintroduce rem.

shinra finds rem eventually; gast renames her jenova, unknowing of what he's truly found and experiments begin. by this point, the infection of the original virus in combination of time and weather have degraded rem horribly; what's left is not the mother the twins knew, and at this point the twins begin to come in conflict on what to do about the situation. shinra also finds the plants and begins using them in ways they should not lmao

"Reunion" is not what hojo believes it to be, whatever the hell that is; "reunion" is just the plant dna trying to bring their new hosts into the higher plane/add them to the network of the collective plant consciousness. hojo's meddling has also fucked around and found out a lot of problematic ways, and rem/jenova's a little bit mad.

vash wants to cooperate with humans the way they always have, convinced they can work together to fix the rem problem and bring her back to the mother they remember. knives, after centuries of wandering, has grown a bit jaded by humanity and is all for letting rem/jenova just kill off humanity and leave him, vash and plants as the remaining survivors.

he's not actively killing anyone but knives is totally down for letting jenova just do the thing. vash is the one who firmly believes (and is right!) that what's left of rem's mind would be horrified of everything she's doing. he eventually convinces knives to work with avalanche to remove shinra as the problem they are and save the other plants, without killing everyone else off.

TIMELINE

Note: This is ONLY for her Main/BPRD Verse. This does NOT affect any side verses. This is a mix of the comic canon, Del Toro canon, and few tweaks because I can.

Primordial Times:

Anum, one of the Watchers (the first guardians of the world) steals the vril fire of creation and creates the Ogdru Jahad from mud.

The Odgru Jahad spawn 369 Ogdru Hem, and begin destroying the primordial world.

Kar Hem, the 369th Ogdru Hem is born, still in her egg.

The Watchers seal the Ogdru Hem and Ogdru Jahad away

A Watcher who has taken pity on the small creature, saves the primordial egg, putting it in a place where it can dream peacefully and never cause harm.

As punishment for creating them, Anum is dismembered, his parts discarded to the winds, save his right hand, stored in amber. This would eventually become the Right Hand of Doom. The other Watchers are cast into a realm that will eventually become Hell. They are now called the first fallen or Titans. The being known to mythology as Tartarus reigns as king, until the Titanomachy, where Hades takes the throne as per Zeus' promise. The dethroned Tartarus now serves as a warden for his titan siblings in the depths of his former domain.

Lesser spirits and beings populate the new world, becoming the gods/fae/spirits we know today.

Lucifer Morningstar rebels. He and his rebel angels are cast into the pit. They become the second fallen and spawn demon kind. He declares himself Emperor of Hell and conquers part of the Underworld. He forces his titanic prisoners of war to build his throne and the city of Pandemonium.

Hecate steals the primordial egg in a ritual to create a child, known as Makaria. The abomination breaks all laws of cosmic order, but the Fates state the child may live as it will serve the Fates in due time.

Before 110,000 BCE:

What is known as the Hyperborean Empire is established, spreading across the planet

~20,000 - 10,000 BCE:

Anum is worshipped as a deity, his hand removed from amber and put on display in a statue in the capital city of Gornium.

King Thoth the Wise rises to power. He writes his knowledge into 42 books, knowledge gained from capturing 3 of the original Watchers and keeping them captive in his secret garden. Only 2 of the books are made public.

The Empire reaches a golden age of expansion, Thoth granting seven of his sons sever vril maidens to power and protect seven new colonies:  Thadrethes, Leto, Hypos, Urrasan, Lemuria, Mu, and Atlantis.

Hecate arrives in Gornium, eventually ingratiating herself in the court and seducing Thoth. This begins the downfall of Gornium and the Hyperborean Empire. Learning the secrets of his knowledge and Watchers, Hecate slaughters the Watchers and writes the hidden knowledge over the temple with their blood.

Thoth curses Hecate for her transgressions, leaving her unable to stand direct contact with the sunlight. This causes a schism in the Empire; the cult of the Black Goddess supporting Hecate and the followers of Anum and Thoth. 

The Black Goddess cult devolved into a violent, bloody people, committing mass atrocities and war with the followers of Anum. The priests of Anum kidnap the godling Makaria. Hecate demands that Makaria be returned to her. The child is sealed in a black stone sarcophagus by the Priests of Anum. Denying Hecate once more the child she has since longed to have returned.

The statue of Anum becomes self-aware as a reaction to the conflict, destroying the rest of the Gornium and ending the Empire, forcing both underground. Hecate’s followers became the Followers of the Left Hand and were eventually slaughtered by their enslaved creature. Anum’s Followers of the Right Hand survive in pockets underground until today.

The Seven Cities survive for some time after the conflict but even they too seem to fall into obscurity.

~10,000 BCE : The rise of contemporary human civilization as we know it in the Fertile Crescent.

~1300s BCE: Panya is born in the reign of Akhenaten in Egypt.

“Past” History:

 1533: Roger is created by an alchemist in Romania

1547: Sarah Hughes, a witch descended from Morgan Le Fay and Arthur Pendragon becomes the bride of Azzael, Duke of Hell on Walpurgis Night. They conceive the cambion that would eventually become Hellboy.

1617: October 6: Sarah Hughes dies and is claimed by Azzael, giving birth to Anung Un Rama, also known later as Hellboy. He is the first male of the Pendragon line since Mordred, and rightful king of England. 

1856: September 16: Sir Edward Grey is born

1859: November 24: Panya is unwrapped as part of an unwrapping party hosted by member of the Heliopic Brotherhood of Ra. A one Langdon Caul is in attendance.

1869: Spring: After noticing some slaughtered cows, a young Edward Grey investigates, leading to the revelation that the son of the local lord is a werewolf. He becomes a local celebrity in Wessex, known for being around supernatural happenings.

1879: February: After foiling a plot by a small circle of witches threatening the Queen, Edward Grey is knighted by Queen Victoria and becomes the official occult investigator for the crown. He is given the title Witchfinder, and becomes a sort of pulp hero.

1885: Langdon Everett Caul, a merchant involved with the Oannes Society, engages in a ritual involving an egg totem recovered from the sea. It would transform him into an amphibious being. He would be abandoned sometime after.

1889: After Queen Victoria suppresses the identity of Jack the Ripper, Sir Edward leaves her service to become a private occult investigator.

Modern History:

1902: Varvara, the bastard child of Rasputin is born in the Russian Empire.

1913: Seeking to gain some money from her father, Varvara’s mother tries to introduce the girl to her biological father. They are turned away and left to die in the snow. The demon Yomael possesses the girl and creates the Varvara we know

1916:

February: Sir Edward investigates happenings in Chicago related to the Heliopic Brotherhood of Ra and the Duke of Hell Amdusias. He is never seen again. Cursed by Amdusias to be immortal, he was them cut into pieces, leaving on the banks of the Acheron. Lesser demons took pity and put the man back together, waiting for the day when Anung Un Rama would meet his destiny…

Trevor Bruttenholm is born.

December 30th: Grigori Rasputin is invited to dinner where he is poisoned, shot, stabbed, castrated, and drowned. As he drowns in the Neva, he is called by the Ogdru Jahad, becoming their herald. He begins to be their vessel by which to bring about their return.

1923: WWI deserter Raimund Destiel becomes what is known as The (first) Black Flame.

1932: The first signs of a vigilante called “The Lobster” targeting gangs in the US after one is found branded with a lobster claw-like symbol on their head. Conflict with one of these gangs leads to a run-in with the Black Flame.

1937: Rasputin, along with Ilsa Haupstein and the help of Nazi scientists, begins what will be Project Ragna Rok.

1938: The Lobster works with the US Government investigating some strange occurrences and capturing Nazi criminals/scientists.

1939: The Lobster is rumored to be KIA at Hunte Castle, the lair of one Herman Von Klempt, foiling an attempt for creates a Nazi space program. The Lobster eventually evolves into the public consciousness as Lobster Johnson, the pulp hero.

1943: Trevor Bruttenholm Graduates from Oxford University, and is recruited as a codebreaker for the British Army under the SOE.

1944:

Trevor Bruttenholm creates and leads the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense after being appointed occult advisor to President Roosevelt (and the OSS) to target Nazi occult threats

May: Project Epimetheus begins. The US attempted to control the vril energy using a power suit, leading to the creation of the Epimetheus Suit/Sledgehammer. Following the death of its test subject, the armor became possessed, with the determination of wiping out the Nazi threat, killing the first Black Flame.

December 23rd: Hellboy arrives from Hell in a church on an island off the coast of Scotland after the Allies botch Rasputin’s attempt to bring the Ogdru Jahad back as a Nazi weapon (Project Ragna Rok). He is adopted by Trevor Bruttenholm and raised in the BPRD.

1945: January: following combat, the Epimetheus suit is stored away in a military facility in the Rocky Mountains. (It would later become a secondary base for the BPRD.)

1946: 

Johann Kraus is born.

Soviet Russia creates the Special Sciences Services in response to the BPRD. A peculiar little girl Varvara is chosen as its Director.

1952: Hellboy is given honorary human status by the UN and begins his service as a full-fledged Agent.

1956: Varavara is captured and sealed away by Iosif Nichyako, a magically animated corpse, taking control of the Special Sciences Services. 

1958:

Kate Corrigan is born

Thomas Manning is born

1962: 

April 15th: Elizabeth Sherman is born.

1973: An incident with the neighborhood children causes Liz’ pyrokinesis to go out of control, killing her immediate family. The Bureau is involved in a custody battle between Liz’s extended family, who do not believe she is the cause.

1974: After another flare-up, Liz is delivered into the BPRD’s custody.

1976: Thomas Manning joins the BPRD as a field agent.

1978: Abraham Sapien, is found in an abandoned room in St. Trinian’s Hospital. He is the product of the Oannes Society experimentations.

1979: Abraham Sapien becomes an official Agent.

1980: 

Liz Sherman becomes an official agent.

Thomas Manning becomes Assistant Director of the BPRD.

1982: Trevor Bruttenholm retires as Director of the BPRD giving the role to Thomas Manning.

1983: Kate becomes a BPRD Consultant.

1985: January 26th: The “official” birthdate of Kar Aster, according to BPRD Records.

1989: Mid-Late: An expedition to Greenland recovers artifacts rumored to be Hyperborean. Among them is a small, black sarcophagus.

1990: January: The sarcophagus is exhumed, surprising researchers and Professor Bruttenholm when the inhabitant is found alive as if sleeping. The girl is called Kar, after the scratched engraving found on the sarcophagus. She is made an official ward of the Bureau.

1992: The descendants of Elihu Cavendish and Trevor Bruttenholm strike up a friendship and discuss an arctic expedition, following the evidence of Hyperborea found in Greenland.

1993: Along with Sven Olafsson, the Cavendish brothers and Bruttenholm take an expedition to the Arctic Circle, finding the ruins of Gornium, and disturbing a statue of Sadu Hem. The Cavendish brothers and Olafsson are turned into frog monsters, and Bruttenholm is presumed dead.

1994: 

Nearly a year missing, Trevor Bruttenholm returns alive with a gap in his memory. This leads to the First Cavendish Hall Incident. 

Rasputin, using the three frog monsters, lures Hellboy to Cavendish Hall in hopes of triggering the beginning of the end. He is “killed” by Abe, possessed by Elihu Cavendish. Manning declares a sweep of the ruins every six months for any life signs indefinitely.

Kate’s first mission as an Agent.

1995:  At 10 years old, Kar is eventually given honorary human status by the UN and is fostered by Drs. Frankie Aster and Ava Coen in New York. The Bureau remains involved with her life. She is converted to Judaism and given the Hebrew name Masha Yehudit.

1996: Fenix Espejo is born.

1997: Roger, a homunculus, is recovered from his creator’s castle in Romania and made an Agent.

1998: Kar celebrates her bat mitzvah in New York.

1999:

A 14-year-old Kar starts her undergraduate studies at NYU.

Kate becomes Director of Field Operations.

Contemporary History:

2001: Benjamin Daimio is attacked while on a mission in Bolivia. A jaguar spirit shares his body and saves his life-- at a cost. He is put into the Pentagon’s Special Operations and an informal consultant of the BPRD.

2002: February: A tampered figurine in China causes a shockwave in the ethereal plane. Johann’s body is destroyed by it during a routine seance. 

2004: 

2003:

Kar graduates NYU with a BSci.

Kar officially becomes a BPRD Agent.

Trevor Bruttenholm is killed in his study by Rasputin-- or rather his creature Kroenen.

Rasputin once again tries to bring the Ogdru Jahad back to earth using Hellboy. It fails.

Following the death of her father, Kar disappears one night without any notice until it is too late. Thus begins almost a year of out-of-control behavior and self-medicating with drugs and alcohol to cope with the loss. 

2005: Kar is recovered by the BPRD in the clutches of the Order of the Ebon Serpent, one of Hecate's cults. After a traumatic reunion with her mother she is put under Bureau observation once more. Shortly after recovery, she is enrolled and sent off to the UK for graduate school. Despite official statements saying this is voluntary, those close remain suspicious, given the events.

2006:

Prince Nuada declares war on the human world and intends to revive the mythical Golden Army. Hellboy defeats him and seals the army away, never to be used.

Johann Krauss joins the BPRD.

2007: Liz leaves the BPRD, traveling to a Monastery in order to learn how to control her powers.

2008: 

Hellboy leaves the BPRD for Africa. He is not heard from for over a decade.

Benjamin Daimio leaves the Pentagon to formally join the BPRD to replace Hellboy.

Kar spends time between South Asia and the Levant as part of her doctoral thesis.

Plague of Frogs

2009: 

A piece of fungus is recovered from the Cavendish Hall ruin sweeps and held in a research facility in New Jersey. Within weeks it grows into a giant fungus. The researchers are killed and the fungus is stolen from the facility.

Spores from Sadu Hem change the people in Crab Point, Michigan into frogs. Starting what is known as the “Plague of Frogs”.

Kate was promoted to Director of Field Operations

Liz returns to the BPRD from the monastery 

Kar Graduates Oxford with a DPhil. Before she can go on a much waited expedition to Egypt, is called back into duty with the BPRD.

The BPRD moves from its Fairfield HQ to an abandoned Military Base in the Colorado Rockies.

2010:

Landis Pope takes over Zinco and becomes the next vessel for the Black Flame.

Roger is killed on a mission by the Black Flame and buried on the alias “Archie Stanton” to keep people from attempting to recover his body.

March: A mysterious message leads Abe and Ben to Indonesia. They discover the rest of the Oannes society living in isolation, with many hybrid animals. Their intention to create a cataclysmic tsunami to drown Southeast Asia and collect the souls into their created vessels is thwarted. 

Panya is recovered from Indonesia after the Garden of Souls incident with Abe.

September: Ben transforms into his werejaguar form after Darryl, a wendigo escapes from his holding cell, and both disappear into the wilderness of the Rockies in a snowstorm.

2011: 

Hellboy kills Nimue and is dragged to Hell.

New York City goes dark as Pope and Zinco take over the city, enslaving or killing the inhabitants. Many survivors live among the ruins.

Frankie and Ava, Kar’s foster parents, are killed for resisting.

The BPRD is led underground to wipe out the rest of the frogs. They are confronted by the King of Fear, one of the slave races of the Followers of the Left Hand. They killed the Hyperboreans and took over the cult, seeking to set their war machines on the world above. They are destroyed by Liz’s fire,  but also cause mass devastation to the world above. 

Liz departs from the BPRD once again due to guilt over the incident.

2012: Fenix Espejo begins her tenuous on/off alliance with the BPRD

2013:

Abe leaves the BPRD to learn more about his past.

Iosif Nichyako, Director of the Russian Special Sciences Service, proposes an alliance with the BPRD to defeat the Hem threat. 

2014:

Liz and Fenix return to the BPRD from their respective hiatuses.

A Joint BPRD/SSS mission is formed to infiltrate New York and the Black Flame’s Stronghold.

Ashley becomes the BPRD’s official Exorcist after a mission leads her to take the mantle of an old Bureau friend.

2015:

Johann takes possession of the Epimetheus Suit, controlling the vril power as his own. He is now the second most powerful member of the BPRD (Liz being the first at present).

An assault of Zino-Controlled New York is led by Liz, and Johann. Pope is killed by Liz and the remains are destroyed by Johann.

Kar learns of her mothers’ death and grieves in the ruins of New York. She finally manifests as Kar Hem during the assault on Zinco in New York, shifting into the dragon for the first time.

Kate and Panya are killed after the Colorado headquarters is attacked by Odgru Hem and evacuated. Andrew Devon takes Kate’s place as Director of Operations.

Johann sacrifices himself and the Vril Containment Suit to destroy the Ogdru Jahad that has landed on Earth. 

2016-2017: A reluctant Iosif frees Varvara to fight Ogdru Hem. He is killed by Varvara. The Special Sciences Service is now without leadership.

The Devil You Know

2017:

Hellboy returns from Hell.

Abe returns to the BPRD.

Kar becomes Director of Field Operations following the death of Andrew Devon.

The Second Cavendish Hall Incident. 

Varvara is killed by Rasputin.

Kar is “Killed in Action” while sealing up Rasputin and severing his link with the Ogdru Jahad. She wakes up in her mother’s limbo-esque domain, finally ready to accept her mother’s offer. Kar finally becomes the goddess of the crossroads, inheriting Hecate’s powers.

Hellboy "retires" from the BPRD; settling in some small fishing village in Mexico. He still is in contact with Kar and the others, and is known to occasionally come back for consultation.

2018: 

Kar becomes the third BPRD Director following the death of Thomas Manning.

The Fairfield HQ is reopened, and the organization returns to its old home. There is discussion of rebuilding the Colorado Base as well.

For every abomination and for every sin, there must of necessity be a just recompense. For God is holy and a just judge. His wrath burns like fire against all iniquity; the fury of His wrath is like a consuming fire that no man can bear (Hebrews 12:29).

In this Bible verse, Ezekiel speaks of temporal judgment on Israel for nation sins, but the same principle applies to the world today and its eternal judgment and punishment if we do not humble ourselves before Father God Almighty and the LORD Jesus Christ and repent. He is the almighty and righteous one who inhabits eternity. His holiness is unspeakably pure and merciful. At the same time, His hatred of sin and blasphemy towards Him is just and indescribably intense. We thank Father God Almighty in Heaven that He sent His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, to bear the fury of His wrath against sin on the cross at Calvary, for we could not bear it ourselves. We could not quench the fire or His wrath though we suffered for all eternity, but Jesus has availed for us. Praise be to His holy name and the Kingdom of Heaven forevermore!

Jesus Christ is the only way to Heaven (John 3:5, 14:6), the only way to salvation (Acts 4:12, Ephesians 2:8-9) and He is resurrection and the life (John 11:25-26). As true and born-again Christians, we believe in Him and His Holy Word. We know though our mortal bodies should die, He will raise us up and into new and glorious bodies (The Rapture). We who are truly His and alive at His second coming will never die, and our bodies will be changed in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, and so shall we ever be with Him in His Kingdom of Heaven forevermore (1 Corinthians 15:51-52, 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17). This is one of many promises given to us by God Himself. Let this promise of future resurrection give us hope and peace and encourage us always. Thank God for His strength and guidance when we are faced with sin and temptation. Thank Him for His mercy and grace. Through Bible study and prayer, God reveals His wisdom and guides us to see opportunities to grow closer to Him and grow spiritually. He gives us direction to live our lives according to His Holy Word and will. We must make God top priority everyday! May we be motivated to spread God's Holy Word and Gospel Truth to all the Earth, knowing that it is the only hope of all those lost in their sins. Let us not hold out a false hope for men to be saved without the Gospel, but instead, strive to do our part to get the Gospel out to a lost and dying world.

Leaning on Father God Almighty and the LORD Jesus Christ through prayer and His Holy Word and Spirit strengthens us and our knowledge and wisdom about God and His Gospel Truth, exposing these imposters. May God help us to seek and lean on Him daily to gain the strength, wisdom and spiritual discernment needed to expose Satan and his imposters who seek to destroy us and God's ultimate Truth. Everyday, we must remember to share Jesus Christ's Gospel Truth with the world and to thank Father God Almighty and the LORD Jesus Christ for the grace that He poured out for us on the cross at Calvary. He has freed us from the burdens of sin and from the eternal damnation of Hell. In all we say and do, may all praise, honor and glory always be given to Him and His Kingdom of Heaven.

With renewed minds, hearts and wills, let us serve Him humbly and faithfully out of pure love and grateful rejoicing. May He remind us of His presence and to remain at peace, fully knowing that all will be well because He is always with us. Random hcs about Shou in demon slayer verse cuz he rots my brain ;;;;;;;;

Toichiro, Shou's father, was a slayer who made it up to the Hashira's rank, but refused to become one and retired instead, having gained immense doubts in the way the Ubuyashiki clan was leading the demon slayer corps. He established his own training facility, where he can train slayers to be strong enough to have a 100% chance of surviving the Final Selection, either that or make sure that they never become demon slayers in the first place.

In his eyes he was doing something noble, saving lives from being carelessly wasted with every Final Selection, but the error was in his ways, his training was literal hell, you either survive to become a demon slayer, or live the rest of your life with a broken spirit, something he didn't find a problem with, claiming that there is no other choice but death for those who don't make it through his courses.

He gained supporters, retired slayers, and elder Kinoes, all helped in making his name grow, as he aims to one day overtake the leadership of the slayer corps and make good where Ubuyashiki fell short.

In a world where he was taught to become a user of Thunder Breathing - with techniques that relied heavily on speed - Shou was born with inhumane strength. His muscles had a similar composition to Mitsuri's. He had to eat so much to accommodate, too.

He was one of the youngest on his father's training grounds, that didn't stop Toichiro from placing expectations with the weight of the world upon his shoulders. Shou lived up to them, of course he did, with the cost of sleepless nights and bleeding limbs.

His mother could not fathom the violent and heartless man his father had become, and without a way to save her son, guilt and powerlessness wrecked her to the point she couldn't handle it, she fled from home one night when Shou was 10.

Things deteriorated from then on, Toichiro only grew more distant, harsher and crueler, his methods breaking people more than making them strong enough. A couple years later and many slayers gave up from supporting him and his training, finding it helpless, too hard, almost impossible. Key word being almost, around the same time Toichiro's facility lost its final students, Shou survived the Final Selection, successfully joining the corps, being 13 of age at that time.

Shou never thought twice of why his mother left, and came to the conclusion that some people are just selfish, she did what's best for herself, he didn't hate her for it, he didn't hate his father either, but he couldn't forgive either of them, and missed the way both of them were, in a memory where life was difficult, but he could still rest from fatigue in his mother's embrace, or receive warm words from his father, whether encouragement or guidance.

In a world where people lost, mourned, and moved on to fight; Shou didn't know what to do with his pain. He fought simply because that's all he had ever known.

Shou's skills as a demon slayer aren't that advanced, his body and his breathing style often clash, and he resorts to relying on his sheer strength on a lot of occasions, he hates himself for it, and hopes to find a breathing style that works better with the way he is, which leads to him seeking out elder slayers of different, new techniques, hoping that they would be kind enough to offer him guidance.

Shou doesn't return home after joining the corps, he spends the time between missions either on the road or in Wisteria houses, surviving on his own was taught to him as well, he doesn't find it difficult, but he never liked being on his own.

Shou wears a classic black demon slayer uniform, with a haori, which he took from his mother's abandoned closet before he left on his first mission. It's white, with the ends decorated with purple, red, blue, and pink fall flowers in the Akikusa pattern.

Proverbs: God's Wisdom for the Day

Devotional Scripture:

Proverbs 24:23 (KJV): 23 These things also belong to the wise. It is not good to have respect for persons in judgment. Proverbs 24:23 (AMP): 23 These also are sayings of the wise. To discriminate and be partial, having respect for persons in judging, is not good.

Thought for the Day

This verse is addressed to the wise, who are told not to discriminate or show partiality when sitting in a position of judgment. To make a fair judgment about anything, there first must be laws that are considered the standard in a situation. The standard for Christians consists of God's laws that are recorded in the Bible. These rules and commandments were given so that people could live blessed and peaceable lives. God's laws preserve order on earth and also show man his sin and need for a Savior. Those who walk in the Spirit, fulfill the law by loving others. They reap the blessings that come from walking in God's ways.

The Bible outlines various penalties for breaking God's laws. The ultimate penalty for sinners is that they will go to hell. I want to repeat what has been included in previous verses, because of its utmost importance. The good news is that Jesus, the son of God, came to the earth and died on the cross, giving Himself as the only sacrifice that could make atonement for our sins. He was raised from the dead and is now seated at the right hand of God. As the ultimate Judge, He is not a respecter of persons. What He will do for one, He will do for another. All who come to God through Jesus will be pardoned, no matter what sin they have committed. "But God commandeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more than, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life" (Romans 5:8-10).

America's founding fathers were Christians and based much of their legal structure on the Bible's moral laws. Many laws in the U.S. are based directly on laws found in Deuteronomy. To our detriment, many sound laws have been altered or abandoned. Scripture describes times such as ours: "And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time" (Daniel 7:25).

Our present-day judicial system has drifted from its original intent of protecting the innocent and convicting the wicked. Today, the law is being exploited by some people who want to use it for gain. Many are seeking outlandish settlements, that in the end, all people will pay for. Through unfair settlements such as these, lawyers are the ones most rewarded. Of course, not all lawyers are greedy. Many good lawyers seek to help and serve their clients. However, due to a faulty legal system, the protection of the innocent has often been overruled, while criminals are not justly dealt with. We need to return to Biblical principles and shape our laws accordingly if we desire to see justice in our land. "The God of Israel said...He that ruleth over men must be just, ruling in the fear of God" (2 Samuel 23:3). "Shall not the Judge of all the earth do, right?" (Genesis 18:25b).

Prayer Devotional for the Day

Dear heavenly Father, I am eternally grateful that You have forgiven me of my sins and that You paid the price for them on the cross. Lord, I now want to serve You faithfully every day. I am also thankful that You are a righteous judge and I can always commit my case to You, and You will treat me fairly in everything. Since You are no respecter of persons, You will do this for all who look to You. Lord, I pray that as a nation, we will be given righteous judges so that all people will receive justice in the courts of our land. I ask this in the name of the Lord, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Lee Sur Pallor Song

!WARNING, SPOILERS FOR ALL OF THE AURELIAN CYCLE!

I just realized what song sums up Lee sur Pallor's character from The Aurelian Cycle by Rosaria Munda (It's my favorite book series, be sure to check it out when you can, it's amazing). I was just vibing to Bad Omens as I do, and when Never Know came on it clicked. I'm rereading the series now, so it makes sense why it would click now and not when I first heard the song. Every lyric in Never Know is perfect for him, and some are very good for Antigone sur Aela as well, but I'm going into Lee's character with this song.

The very first words are, "Show me you're better off without me" . With Lee's conflicting sides with his family in New Pythos and, in Flamefall, the Passi. So he has to leave Annie on her own, although he has in the past like in Albans when they fought, and in the future where he risked his life and ended Pallor's so that she could escape and win.

The second line in the first verse is "Choking on every word you said". The silence between him and Annie of knowing too much about the other and their past, and when they just talked at Annie's old house, where she was choking on her words as it played out. And how they fight a lot, and have to keep their distance and silence to stay focused on their goals. Every time one leaves the other right after they swore to do this together, the other is choking on that promise that has been broken.

The repeating phrase throughout the entire song, "we'll see", is the way nobody knows how things will play out. How conflicted Lee is throughout the books, with his aching for his family, having to just see what Julia is like before choosing his side. With the Passi, how the riots will play out and how him and Annie will do. How many chances he has to get back his old life, with Ixion sur Niter coming to reign and hunting down Annie. He didn't know how it would play out when he was locked in the Big House as it was burnt down. The plan nearly failed, with Pallor's life gone. And the court plan almost failed, with Ixion's gained knowledge of her distant summoning.

"Don't breathe another word about me, I'll leave and you can finally rest in peace, we'll see" is the next two lines in Never Know. I think of how he faked his death, how the world thought that the Revolution's Son had died at the hands of his cousin. Also how he has to let go of his family and past so many times over to finally leave them behind. In Albans, killing Julia, facing Ixion. So many times he abandoned his heritage and family, only for it to catch up with him eventually until there was no family at all.

The pre-chorus is hard for me to do one line at a time, so this is the entire thing, "When I go out into the world, I just don't like what I see, You could call it Paradise, But it looks just like Hell to me" Remember this is repeating and I won't be doing this like 2-3 times. I like how it plays to his need to change the world, through becoming a Guarding, joining the Passi, and helping Annie make a new Guardian and governing system. Others like the Golds and Atreus saw a paradise, while him and the lower classes and lower born guardians only saw hell. And they fixed it, so it became more of a Paradise, though a pure paradise for everyone involved is impossible to get.

The chorus is beautiful to me, and speaks to the very core of him. The first and third lines are, "Lying in between the memories choking me, and". These beautiful words line his character of having so many memories of his past, so many desires conflicting with each other. But he isn't his past, and the present and future won't allow him to ever be that again. These desires make him act compromised by speaking with Julia and pretending to agree with Ixion for so long after he took over for that bit.

The line after that and the last line of the chorus goes, "I don't know which way to go, but I'm okay to never know". This goes with his conflictedness again, he doesn't know whether to choose his nostalgia or the world where he can have Annie, and where the world will stop burning the innocent and the weak. For so long he doesn't know which way to go, and this song represents the middle of his character arch where he is changing sides and ideals so much, breaking Annie over and over to save them both.

The second verse starts with, "Speaking in languages we can't read, No need for you to spell it out for me, for me". |t essentially means that he knows exactly the situation of the world, and doesn't need it spelled out for him to understand, even though it can't be spelled out. He knows the class Irons are starving and the Golds are having parties and feasts, he has lived both of those lives. He knows the class Irons are burning in the flamefalls, he sees it on Cor's face and the ashes of so many people. He knows he has to pick a side, because he can't have his old life and his new one. He can't have his family and Annie.

The third and fourth lines' lyrics are, "Swallowed up and I spit you out, Like a drug that just wouldn't stay down, stay down". This line to me speaks of how many times he had to abandon or hurt Annie and how she felt, like he was spitting her back out. Also how even with his desires, he betrays his family and chooses the side that tried to kill him more than once.

The chorus is all that's left of the song after this, so that's all of my analysis of Never Know by Bad Omens as a Lee sur Pallor theme song. If you haven't yet, you should check out the song and the band, along with the book series. I love all three of them so much, and I'm glad I could make this connection. I know it's a giant word vomit above, but I enjoy writing and I hope you can understand my connection to Lee and Never Know. Have a wonderful day, and know that you are loved and valid!

  FILE ;  ALASTOR  DURAND  /  THE RADIO DEMON

Alastor.  A man born in 1897, dead by 1935.  Alastor came to Hell  &&  was very quick about making his way  &&  establishing his name,  something he had been taught to do for some time.  He chose quite a violent  &&  arguably very public way of doing so,  reflective of his last decade in life.  

     Alastor was born January 1, 1897.  Death date marked for June 1, 1935.  Born to Esther  &&  Marcus Durand in Louisana.  He's been molded into who he is.  His father was a killer first,  when Alastor found him butchering a man,  at the ripe age of eight,  he chose to try to make a sort of assistant out him,  &&  he succeeded.  He raised Alastor to be a killer,  with grey morals,  if any.  Esther was a doting mother  &&  wife,  but entirely unaware of her husband  &&  son's activities.  Alastor was mostly socially isolated,  his father kept him away from his mother as much as he could in an attempt to keep their secrets,  well,  secret.  Their relationship already was tumultuous for the time  &&  kept as much under wraps as possible,  &&  to give Alastor a good shot at things,  lived with his father,  while his mother lived in another neighborhood.  They weren't unhappy by any means,  a devoted  &&  loving couple,  arguably very sweet to Alastor,  save for his father's choice of passed on passion for killing.

Alastor developed into an adult with little idea of what normal male relationships were like.  His mother was off - limits to harm,  as were any other women,  but men were their primary targets.  No rhyme or reason,  really,  not for Marcus,  but Alastor later would find himself killing only those he liked.  A sick,  twisted devotion.

He went into radio,  with a voice smooth for it  &&  his father wanting someone on the inside of the information circuit.  He enjoyed it greatly,  made a name for himself very well there for a local celebrity of sorts.  He made good money,  brought attention to the family name,  earned his father's further respect.

In 1928,  his father was caught.  Begging his son to solve this problem,  on his hands  &&  knees,  asking him to do something,  anything,  Alastor murdered his own father to save him the torture of prison or death row.  He spun a web of lies to his mother,  he was reported missing,  &&  his body never found at the bottom of the nearest bayou.

Alastor,  however, would not stop there.  Intimacy  &&  loyalty were now marked by murder,  &&  his favorite of people would suffer by his hand.  He would kill them,  lovingly,  slowly,  relishing their voices  &&  cries  &&  pleas.  But eventually it had to catch up.  He was the common denominator,  after all.  He was caught,  persecuted,  &&  hanged,  with his own mother present for his death,  sobbing for the loss of her son  &&  husband both,  aware now of his wrong - doings.

He found his father in Hell.  Marcus was very angry,  a very angry man,  indeed,  &&  for the better part of three months,  they fought every time they crossed paths.  Marcus would claim that he had not asked for his death,  that Alastor failed his mother,  that he was a failure of a son,  &&  that if he was here,  it was all because of Alastor.  When the first extermination came after Alastor's arrival,  he managed to lock his father out in the open,  allow him to be cornered,  leading him to his second  &&  final death.

Alastor started working towards gaining power,  displeased by the lack he had,  &&  determining the easiest path forward was removing those above him,  all the while gaining contracts over time.  He began to broadcast the screams of his victims for all to enjoy.  Eventually,  he found himself at the top,  with few left to antagonize  &&  a deal having to be made otherwise to keep him under one's control.  So he settled down upon a throne of bones  &&  screams,  before he disappeared for seven years  &&  then returned with a new investment,  in the one  &&  only Hazbin Hotel.

verse  one ;    ‘ CLIMB THE CROSS ’   (  SHOWTIME  ) The main verse.  Alastor is currently at the hotel,  contracted,  trying to navigate helping the Princess of Hell,  moving around between Lucifer himself  &&  the others at the hotel.  Contains anything happening post - pilot.

verse  two ;    ‘ MY SALIVA'S DRIPPING ’   (  PRE - SHOW  ) The prequel verse. Anything that could have happened pre - show happens here. This can include during his seven - year disappearance, or anything between 1935  ( when he arrived in Hell )  &&  present time.

verse  three ;    ‘ TAKE OFF YOUR LEASH ’   (  DUPLICATES ) The duplicate verse.  This verse will encompass any travelling of the multiverse,  where Alastor may meet other versions of himself.  He will likely refer to himself as  "Caedis"  for the sake of differentiating when needed,  Latin for slaughter or massacre.  If the alternates he meets has their own names to go by that are not Alastor,  he will default to being Alastor.

I SEE THE VISION- OH MY GOD Y E S

The Kent's own the oceanside cafe, Kon whose backstory closer resembles Damian- a surprise son from an Ex of Clark whom he just gained custody off a little whole ago and is adjusting to life in Mako. But in his rebellion he ended up meeting a quiet boy who hangs out by the beach and his rambunctious sea loving friends.

Tim, the child of Running mayoral candidate Janet Drake, who seems hellbent on bringing a "modern touch" to their "quiet seaside life". in her campaign. A kid who also does competitive swimming and is out for the Olympics at this rate. But while he loves the ocean and swimming- the pressure of competition is driving him crazy so he goes on the beach to chill. And if he happens to finally get the opportunity to be nosy about "the new guy" in town- who would reject that? (Oh and he also interns at the Wayne family Aquarium where the Allen's work)

Cassie who moved out with her mom who is a teacher at the local high-school and has always had a fascination for mermaid tales. She is hell bent on the fact they are real, and insists that they take the Allen family boat to Mako Island every full moon to get a chance at "gathering evidence". So if Tims actually made a friend on his own? Of course the new kid can join- the more eyes the better

Bart whose family are renound marine biologists and work at the local aquarium, he's always been "Merfolk adjacent" just from how often he's in the water. Competes with Tim but more for fun and is a frequent visitor if the Kent Cafe. Has the keys to the aquarium as well as his uncles boat that he comendeers every month for their trip to Mako Island. Honestly he's just excited to go fishing.

Of course when all the kids sneak off and onto Mako, after catching and cooking up a lovely fish dinner (courtesy of Bart). Kon learns of Cassies mer obsession and Tims exasperation for said obsession, his "tugging on pigtails" flirting leads to him insisting they explore the island for "evidence".

Cassie is of course overjoyed, Bart is always down for an adventure, and Tim is outnumbered. SO they end up stumbling upon some weird cave- and without further adou slip into a tunnel with a giant pool in the center.

Tim starts getting nervous and says they should leave, but before he can say anything his friends are jumping into the water and dragging him along with.

Magic montage and BOOM suddenly they're merfolk and freaking the fuck out

Then arcs include Kons family life, misunderstandings of "teenage rebellion" verses "merman issues" and his harder to ignore crush on his new best friend.

Cassie learning the true consequences of her "dream come true" and dealing with hiding such a detrimental secret from her own mom.

Bart and Tim dealing with being around water 24/7 as well as the Waynes & Allens who seem hellbent on getting to the bottom to the recent "strange marine life sightings" around Mako.

But they have no other choice than to band together and hope to find a cure, or uncover the full mysteries that Mako has to offer.

Growing up in the Hartford QZ after the collapse, Clary has been subjected to her father's endless experimentation in the hopes of finding a cure for the Cordyceps brain infection - or so he says. In truth, Valentine does hope to find a cure - so that he can use it to gain control over FEDRA & re-shape this new emerging world to his personal vision, even if he has to sacrifice his daughter's life to do it.

The world went to hell when she was 8. All she knows is that one day she & Simon were playing on the playground & talking about how they couldn't wait for the weekend because they'd get to watch the next episode of their favorite anime, & then that afternoon, the entire world went to hell.

She & her mom were lucky - they were able to escape the city with Simon, his family, & a group from the Lewis's synagogue. The headed north, setting up in a farmhouse owned by one of the families, & decided to wait things out.

A year after leaving Brooklyn, Luke - an old family friend Jocelyn hadn't seen in nearly a decade since fleeing her abusive marriage - found the two of them when working with FEDRA to evacuate citizens to QZs established in the region. Clary & Jocelyn were evacuated to Hartford, while Simon, Rebecca, & their mom were evacuated further east due to Hartford being at near-capacity.

She never saw Simon, or his family, again. Who she did encounter, however, was her father.

Valentine Morgenstern was there to meet them when the evac convoy pulled through the FEDRA checkpoint, & he summarily separated his wife & child from the rest of the survivors. Over the course of the next few weeks, it would become readily apparent why finding his family had been the highest ranking priority for the high-level FEDRA officer; having experimented on his two unborn children many years ago, Valentine had unwittingly laid the foundation for a cure to the current Cordyceps brain infection.

His son might not have seen the success he hoped for, but his wife & his daughter, having been infected with other pathogenic fungi, provided new hope. Over the next few years, he would exhaust the resources of the Hartford QZ running tests & furthering his experimentations on Clary in the hopes of generating an antimycotic agent that might stop & even reverse the effects of an early-stage of CBI.

Or at least, that's what he told anyone willing to listen. With Valentine's charisma, most even believed him right up until it was too late. It was when Valentine arranged for Clary to accompany a supply convoy to Boston that the truth of his plans came to light; he intended to use his "cure" to take control of the largest functional QZ, & ultimately FEDRA, so he could shape the future of a new world in his own design.

Escaping the supply convoy in the chaos of Hartford QZ's breakdown, Clary was separated from her mother & Luke & fell off the grid - her goal is to make it to the QZ in Salt Lake City, where she might be able to make good on all of the experimentation her father put her through & actually synthesize a cure.

Centurion verse variant (closer to game-canon timeline)

this verse is a good fit for someone who wants to stay within the game's timeline more exactly. uses her centurion verse canon background up until 2013.

After going through the ordeal of attending the Scholomance & becoming Clave special forces, Clary made it her mission to hunt down Lilith. Finding the demoness in 2013 didn't exactly go according to plan - instead of being able to strike her down, Lilith opened a portal & threw the centurion through it, sending her to a world ravaged by the Cordyceps infection. Now Clary has set up shop in the former Pittsburg QC, hunting down all traces of demonic leylines in this new dimension so she can find this world's Lilith, & carve herself a pathway home.

Clary possesses the same immunity as Ellie Williams, thanks to her father's experimentations on her.

the fate of her mother, Luke, or the Lewis family is unknown - Clary hopes to find her mom & Luke when she reaches Salt Lake City, since it was Luke who told her about the functional QZ's drive to synthesize a cure.

option i. before the Hartford, CT QZ fails: Clary lives in the Hartford QZ from age 8 onwards, giving lots of time for potential meetings before the QZ begins to fail & she's potentially transferred to the Boston QZ.

option ii. during the collapse of the QZ: An alternate to reaching Boston, there's meeting potential during the collapse of FEDRA's control over Hartford & summarily escaping the QZ in the chaos.
