“peppermint hot cocoa is the best!”   it’s a firm stance  —  she’s not changing her mind,   “but only if it’s made with real chocolate.”

“oh,  this?”   she glances around,  a smile on her lips as she examines the decorations,  ending with a small shrug and the tiniest bounce as eyes drifts back to the other woman,   “it’s no big deal,  just some decorations i had laying around.  everyone deserves to have decorations!!”

“i noticed you don’t have decorations,”   she doesn’t wait to be invited inside,  she simply walks in and begins unloading the bag she’d brought,   “i always have extra,  so i brought some,  and now i’m gonna help you make this place look so jolly,”

“christmas isn’t all about presents,”   the admission,  for her,  had been impossible to imagine once  —  but noelle likes to think she’s grown a lot since her first trip from the pole,   “sometimes all holidays are for is just...  making another person smile!  making them feel like they’ve got a safe place to go when life gets stormy.  just being a friend can be the greatest present there is.”

“someone on the street told me christmas was invented to sell cards!”   there’s clear distress in her tone as she huffs,   “that’s so mean,  i make my own cards and christmas is very real.”

“are my earmuffs still on?”   noelle looks at the other woman in shock,   “because i thought i heard you say that you’ve never had gingerbread waffles.  i can’t even imagine,  that sounds like a terrible life."

she gasps in delight as she circles the other woman,   taking her in from every angle,   “your clothes remind me of sugarplums!  and your hair is so jolly!”

“i think everyone should be able to celebrate whatever holidays they want to.  it makes me so sad that some people can’t,  though.  that they feel restricted,  or they can’t financially.”   there’s nothing jolly about poverty,  and the fact that the first person who’d acknowledged her as santa had been a little girl in a shelter?  well,  it makes her especially soft toward those who are disadvantaged,  and if she can help  ---  that’s why she’s here anyway,  right?  a grin spreads across her lips,   “that’s why i’m organizing a holiday party that encompasses all sorts of traditions and people,  and surprising some of those who aren’t having a jolly holiday season with care packages.  things they need,  some fun gifts,  and just the knowledge that some people are on their side,”   part of her wants to just stay in new york all the time.  there’s so much good to be done here,  and so many people who need help and cheer.   “i’m going around spreading the word to everyone in the building,  and someone said to make sure i let you know,”
