i also. hm. i do think that d2zaza is fluent in japanese, like it's his first language in his previous life and even when he wakes up a lightbearer, but. i think he also knows english pretty well, and even in his overarching life as a lightbearer, situationally speaks it more often than his native language. not to say no one speaks japanese ever in the world of destiny, it's still a major language. and i do think he speaks it exclusively whenever he works with settlements in the place where japan once was (fuck it JDZ?).
i think the last city is a melting pot of languages, and with people being scattered everywhere + alien races and their languages also being everywhere, i don't think there is a true 'universal/common' one? in turn i think everyone's mostly just a little bit multilingual or bilingual atleast

this was supposed to be a quick mission. a clear-out extermination type, in and out ; aizawa knew exceedingly well how quickly he and katsuki could make work of an onslaught if they stuck together. the both of them had their own strengths, their own unique trump cards up their sleeve that made them both formidable opponents in the field. separate, they were strong and clever. together, they'd fought side by side for so long that they had become almost an unstoppable force.
the stupid ass vex didn't even see them coming. armored punches have been clearly sufficient enough in this melee range thus far, threading in between goblins and fanatics to utilize their own firepower against each other. things were going smooth, he hadn't received a single nick. practiced footwork never once ceasing to fail and dutiful ghost is quick to relay the events at his six in accompaniment.
rogue ducks behind foliage once one horde had been decimated, a rally to reload and regroup.
but all in an instant, in one breath-stealing moment, aizawa feels the very lifeforce in which powered his machine feel almost sucked out of him. his soul, his bones, his fingertips - a gasp and he's stumbling, barely grasping hold to the tree he'd been using for cover. there's something hollow, deep and yawning in his entire being now and even with gogo's confirmation of his worst fears, he doesn't dare stop to think. lightbearer gives one firm shake of his head to reorient, voice rough in its call,
" katsuki, come in! "
but the line was dead. move, move, move, move now aizawa. a mantra, repeating even though his body had begun moving on its own. sprinting and gliding and using tree trunks as launching points, he's quick to locate teammate on the field - trapped. instantly does he use the grapple point in his armor to sling himself forward and takedown the offending minotaur. the thing crumbled easily, already damaged and broken, and the impact from the moving black bullet was more than enough to finish the job.
aizawa pushes himself off the ground and slides the rest of the way towards his friend.
" injury list off, now. " eyes and gun barrel dart around to sweep the nearby vicinity. a heavy exhale with some release of tension at the sight that they had caught a moment to breathe.
it was an unsuspecting day. flare had been his tiny, floating saving grace for the entire fight; she heals him when harpies cut through his shields and injure his leg. she resurrects him when a minotaur catches him mid-dodge, hauling him up and blasting him point-blank with its torch hammer. she provides cover and a call for re-strategising when under direct fire by hobgoblins.
she watches him as he throws an explosive knife to a group of goblins, whirrs when he tosses his gunpowder gamble at others. she's triumphant when he scorches an entire wave with a barrage. katsuki grins smugly at her - was there any doubt he'd emerge victorious?
the sudden pain that courses through him is more painful than he could imagine. katsuki knows he rushed ahead, but now, suddenly, he can't feel the heat at the tips of his fingers; he can't feel the steady, radiant warmth flow through him in the standstill. he keels over in pain. red eyes then watch flare collapse from the air with a blip in her optic, shell pieces drooping as she falls, and he feels himself scramble across the floor to her.
the blond barely manages to tuck her close to his person before another minotaur seizes him - pushing him down, torch hammer aimed at his torso.
his hand cannon ruins the weapon. the minotaur seems to notice his desperation. katsuki tries to reach for the light with his hand to conjure a burning grenade to shove into its radiolarian core, but it- he conjures nothing.
lightless. flare is temporarily down, but even if she weren't- he was lightless.
katsuki loses his grip on hand cannon when the minotaur knocks it from his grasp. he grits his teeth together. this couldn't be the end. not here. not like this.
the thought in and of itself scares him.
@ravenbled / red war starter, just for you <3

OLD WOMAN YURI BRACKET ROUND 2
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Propaganda:
May Parker/Olivia Octavius:
THE old woman yuri crackship when this gd movie came out just because of Olivia saying "my friends call me Liv" and May calling her Liv when she breaks into her house. remember your herstory
remember when this was a thing
Raven Darkholme/Irene Adler:
when they met one was pretending to be Sherlock Holmes. one of them is disabled (blind). they raised a teenager together and tried to turn her evil. one was fully ready to destroy a country to get the other back.
Ok so I’m not sure if this falls under the looks elderly for raven since she can look however she wants and Irene looks younger since she’s been resurrected but they are old woman yuri to me since these old evil women are so in love it hurts and they raised a daughter together and even more but I have to go to bed now
evil immortal mutant lesbians. what's not to love.

Every time I play on my warlock, as a Hunter main, whenever I jump, all I can think is "How do I drive this thing?"
It's not even a jump really, it's more like falling with style.

hh silver being so misguided in the beginning of the campaign. he wakes up without a single clue as to who he is, not a single memory to be called upon to help and give any sort of context for the now. there's nothing beyond that insatiable lust for destroying literally everything within sight, but it manifests in the strangest ways that he's not aware is even. a bad thing. like subconscious thoughts, almost exactly like intrusive thoughts but he doesn't know that they're intrusive. separate from his own mind and desires. he isn't aware that they should horrify him yet, which is why he acts out those impulses a lot in the beginning.
silver tells alfira to kick rocks and then wakes up to her gored corpse that same night; he's honest with his companions in saying he has no fucking idea how it happened. but he knows that he committed the act, and the fact that he's unable to discern his thoughts from durge at that point in time is quite terrifying to him.
but even with that, silver doesn't open his mouth to speak his true feelings on the matter. he's honest and silent in letting his teammates tell them they're keeping an eye on him, yet he's confused as to why they all had such viscerally negative reactions. yes it was awful but, he just. he hasn't the faintest idea why. it just felt natural with all that blood coating his hands and forearms.

In honor of the birthday, I am again sharing my precious. 🥰
And yet again I want to say: If you now or ever have interacted in any way over the years with this little story of mine, THANK YOU. 😭❤️ I love and appreciate you more than you will ever know. This fic, and the process of actually completing it etc., literally changed my life.
Since finishing it, btw, I have made many small edits. And after way too long a break away from writing at all, there has finally been some fic work happening in the background lately! So I am hoping to continue updating the rest of the series soon. <3

hmmm i'm thinking in destiny verse, aizawa lost his eye and leg during the red war. a little more specifically, during the battle to take back the last city tbh? he got the bottom eye scar sometime before, probably during whichever of the various battles he's fought in protection of settlements and civilians. zaza's also got his prosthetic directly attached to his bone here also, though that's something that comes a little bit further down the line than an immediate thing.

SW/D2 Crossover thoughts
//Watching the gameplay of Fallen Order and ngl, it really looks like something Echo could really get into.
//Which got me thinking about my SW!Verse with Echo and how she'd probably be on a planet trying to close a breach connecting her system in the Unknown Regions to the Known Galaxy. It's an old, overgrown machine world, something like Treasure Planet. She finds the place beautiful and learns a lot about the Force and how it interacts with the Light. But instead of leaving, she stays there endeavoring to keep the gate closed to keep the Vex from escaping the lobster trap that is her star system.
//Wedge didn't call Sol the seventh ring of the Correlian hells for nothing after all.
//But in her time there, she's come to learn a lot about Light and the Force and though Light is weaker here, she's found that it's Symbiotic with the Force.
//"Light brings life, life brings the Force. We're symbiotic that way."
//In the SW universe, Light isn't as thick and thus not as powerful in the Known Universe. But certain abilities still thrive there. Alas, you can only get certain ability charges once a day, and you have to be careful how you spend the day's Light.
//Gone are the days when Echo could sheld Light into empowering orbs. Now she conserves her Light, storing it Light Packs one ability charge at a time. She can't revive willy-nilly now. If she dies, Whisper only has enough Light for one rezz every 24 hours. Beyond that, it takes three charge packs to revive her after that, and those charge packs don't come cheap.
//Curiously, despite the handicap, swapping her subclasses no longer affects her light charge. Here, the Light is Light and the only thing that matters to it is being used regardless of the shape it takes.
//Darkness is a different story though... Strand is thin but strangely, it flows with the Force like a river following its natural course. The stronger the flow of the Force, the stronger the flow of Strand. It might not be the force itself, but the two flow together like sister forces.
//Stasis, however... something dark congeals around stasis, like gravity compression. The power of it, the need to control... it tightens the world around it like a cramped muscle... and Echo has noticed its chill.

asterys is the reason i'm thinking up a d2 verse for katsuki so here are a few pointers i have in mind for that so far:
primarily solar hunter. mains blade barrage.
uses gunpowder gamble religiously with knock ‘em down. primarily uses proximity explosive knives and tripmine grenades because maximum explosion and crowd control.
shards of galanor exotic? for more blade barrages? yeah.
probs has ember of torches, benevolence, beams, and combustion... probably. i never said this was effective in-game.
for which exotic weapons he favours...
kinetic weapon choices: crimson, outbreak perfected.
energy weapon choices: sunshot, lord of wolves, red death reformed.
power weapon choices: the lament, gjallarhorn.
he was resurrected not too long before the black garden, so he’s been around for d1 onwards.
his ghost is named flare. she’s a stubborn ghost who won’t let him call her something like nitro or dynamite - turns out, he needs a stubborn ghost to deal with his attitude.
he’s a very hard worker and frequents a lot of strikes, dungeons, and crucible. he’s got a good grasp on gambit. as for raids… he’s not always a team player. he’s better when it’s with people in his clan, but he doesn’t have a clan for ages, sooooo in the meantime, good luck.
his vault is full of weapons he worked hard for, every exotic he’s collected, and a full array of artifice armour from dungeons.
(he solos dungeons like a crazy bastard.)
tbh he's also a filthy trials sweat. dude has gilded flawless. side note, he also has gilded glorious and unbroken, because he's a pvp menace.
katsuki knows his name from his life before becoming a guardian, and that’s it. no idea who he really was, what he did, why he was where he first died… his life before is a mystery, like it is for most guardians. as much as he wants to know more, he decidedly doesn’t fuck around and try to find out.
he was first rezzed in the general asia area, where @ravenbled's aizawa (aka zaza) eventually found him. working on the details, but after that and likely getting to the safety of the last city, katsuki learned everything he knows from zaza as a result - despite the fact zaza "doesn't even know what an exotic looks like". (said by katsuki himself.)
as for his fit, check it out below ayoooo

Was rewatching a couple things from Arrivals for fic purposes, and I'm reminded that Ghost got possessed *twice* during that season and we just... never talk about it?? Like come on, I know it's certainly not the last time it happened (*points to Lightfall*), but I wish we could have at least gotten a lore tab.

/ honestly one of my favorite things about Destiny is that it's the most cheerful, fun, silly game while simultaneously being the most sad, depressing, soul crushing game in for me probably the whole franchise.
I could argue Legendia is close, but Legendia usually gets through it and comes out on the other side and returns to sunny and happy. there's a lot of hope and sunshine after all the pain. some of it is emotionally grueling (Moses and Jay's sidequests were several knives in the gut honestly regardless of how they ended), but it always ends in hope and seeing the good in the situation.
Destiny doesn't really get that. all the sunny and cheerful aspects kinda just get crushed along the way and I think that shows most prominently in Stahn himself. he is the cheerfulness, the silliness, the happiness; but when things get worse and worse he starts to get angry, aggressive, and hotheaded. he starts to lose that purity and goofiness he started with.
the game doesn't end every scenario like Legendia - hopeful and looking toward a bright future. most scenarios end up with a huge fucking gut punch to reality, as if to contest Stahn's childish and naïve view of the world at the game's start. Stahn reacts accordingly, and it's always so emotionally raw.
I think it's also something about Stahn himself for me - seeing that happy, genuine, pure guy who really does actually see the best in everything be crushed under the weight of that. there was no way he was coming out the same person he went in as. seeing him struggle and suffer just feels a lot more painful than it does with a lot of characters for me.
like, obviously I write Yuri and he had a lot of weight on him, but he already knew the world was shit before he went out into it. Stahn just went out there very goofily and ignorantly, knowing really nothing about the world outside of his happy little farm town. he walks out having lost so much and in so much pain. and of course, if you came to love the cast at large, it hurts even more outside of just a zoomed in on Stahn lens (NOT A PUN NOT A PUN!!! but it can be. if you want. just for you).
