HPHL Character Sheet - Elias Mendoza

Oh hey hello! I would like to introduce my boy, Elias, to the world. I must point out that everything is still a work in progress, especially the plot but here we go.

II. MAGIC

Wand: Elder, Phoenix Feather, 14 1/2 inches, Hard

The truth is that only a highly unusual person will find their perfect match in elder, and on the rare occasion when such a pairing occurs, [Ollivanders] take it as certain that the witch or wizard in question is marked out for a special destiny.

Phoenix feathers are capable of the greatest range of magic, though they may take longer than either unicorn hair or dragon heartstring cores to reveal this. They show the most initiative, sometimes acting of their own accord, a quality that many witches and wizards dislike. Phoenix feather wands are always the pickiest when it comes to potential owners, for the creature from which they are taken is one of the most independent and detached in the world. These wands are the hardest to tame and to personalise, and their allegiance is usually hard won.

A wand of [hard] flexibility is very difficult to work with and its loyalty is not won easily. Hard wands are great for complex and advanced levels of magic, so beginning wizards and witches may find extra difficulty with this wand when it doesn’t perform well for simple magic. As such, this type of wand is best suited for wizards and witches who are gifted, stubborn, and never give up. Owners of this wand also have a tendency to view things in absolutes; black or white. Some people may find them intimidating or difficult to approach.

Miscellaneous Magical Abilities:

Legilimency and Occlumency Legilimency and occlumency have long been hereditary powers passed down each generation of the Mendoza family. Elias was able to harness his abilities to its full potential by the time he turned 12 years old.

Animagus (Philippine eagle) It becomes tradition in the family and the village that every successor to the title of Supremo becomes well-versed in every type of magic detailed by the predecessors of the title. One part of this tradition is to become an Animagus by the age of 10.|

Wandless magic Elias, like the rest of his family, learned to harness their magic without wands at an early age. However, at Hogwarts, he was required to use a wand, which he had initial difficulty with but managed to use.

Celestial divination Every Supremo aspirant has to be a master of the art of divination. Elias’ best application of the craft is in the field of celestial divination. Living in a mountain village grants him wider access to the nightsky compared to living in the city.

IV. PERSONALITY

Intelligent - Elias is intellectually gifted with a natural need to satisfy his thirst for knowledge, which comes especially handy when it comes to wanting to explore various aspects of magic.

Charismatic - Elias's gentlemanly charm and aura somehow draws people to him (even the people he doesn't care for very much *ehem Leander Prewett ehem*) but

Gentle - Around people he’s closest with, Elias comfortably shows the kind and gentle person he is. He does the same thing with his patients whenever he volunteers at the Hospital Wing alongside his mother. The head matron of the Hospital Wing once told Ma. Aurora that Elias’ bedside manner was admirable for someone his age and that could be a great Healer one day if he chose to become one because of it.

Self-Reliant - In order to help his mother worry less about him at Hogwarts, Elias self-enforces a self-reliant attitude to make sure she worries less about him. He does, on rare occasions, show light frustration about his seeming inability to indulge. On the other hand, during troubling times, he tends to close off his problems from others so that he doesn't bother others with his problems. Elias tends to repress his emotions in order to put something else that he believes is more important first like his duties to learn and to help his mother when he can. It comes to a point that he forgets that being able to be in touch with how he feels is part of taking care of himself. At worst, his emotions bottle up until they blow up and he lashes out at others.

Hardworking - In relation to his self-reliance, Elias works hard whenever he has a goal he wants to achieve. He maintains his dilligence constantly and does all that he can to make sure his goals are met ethically.

Grateful - Because he was given refuge at Hogwarts with his mother, he makes it a point to excel in his education at school as a sort of debt of gratitude for the Board of Governors allowing him and his mother to reside at the school. This “debt of gratitude” ideology and can at times push Elias beyond his limits to a point that he forgets to take care of himself.

Favourite Teacher: Professor Eleazar Fig. Fig has been with Elias since the start of Elias' journey in Hogwarts. In a way, Fig became a sort of paternal figure to Elias, which the latter deeply appreciated.

Worst Subjects: Flying Elias isn't bad at flying on a broomstick, but it's not his best class either. He's just meh.

Least Favourite Subject: History of Magic As much as Elias understands the importance of history in any field, the way this class is taught throws this course right to the very bottom of his list.

Least Favourite Teacher: Professor Cuthbert Binns. Enough said.

VII. RELATIONSHIPS

Mother: Ma. Aurora Leonor Mendoza y Mangubat Ma. Aurora is the current Supremo and shaman (also known as babaylan in Tagalog) of the village coven who taught Elias everything he knew about magic. Ma. Aurora is extremely proficient in charms, transfiguration, divination, herbology, potions, alchemy, martial magic, and most especially, healing. Medical magic has been her greatest strength as a wielder of magic.

Ma. Aurora is a single mother. Her husband Victor Saturnino Mendoza y del Rosario, died in action when he succumbed to his wounds mere minutes after being severely injured by Spanish guards in a battle to free one of the nearby non-magical towns when Elias was only a toddler. (NOTE: ”Ma.” is short for “Maria”)

VIII. PERSONAL TRIVIA

Elias developed a liking for hot chocolate in Britain as it reminded him of tsokolate tablea from back home in the Philippines. (More on it in the miscellaneous section).

Elias is a talented musician. He's especially gifted on the piano, guitar, and the bandurria (as in Marcin Patrzalek levels of gifted). Elias also has an incredible tenor singing voice. He trained in music as a child but still plays music once in a while to release stress. He'd never admit to it, but he uses these talents to make potential lovers swoon. *ehem Sebastian ehem*

Speaking of Sebastian and music, Elias once played music for Sebastian on his guitar. He played Frederick Chopin's Nocturne Op. 9, No. 2 on the guitar because Elias thinks this song describes the joy and love he feels for Sebastian. 🥹

IX. BACKGROUND/HISTORY (WORK IN PROGRESS!!!!)

Pre-Hogwarts:

Childhood

Elias Mendoza was born and raised in the village of Ang Nayon ni Maria (Tagalog, lit. “Maria’s Village”) located in Mount Makiling in Laguna, Philippines. His mother, Ma. Aurora Leonor Mendoza y Mangubat, the current Supremo (Tagalog, lit. “Supreme”) of the coven of the village, was among the last magical users of their village and the keeper and teacher of the knowledge of the ancient magical arts of their ancestors. Ma. Aurora, his mother, acted as his teacher in the various disciplines of magic.

At an early age, Elias was capable of using magic and was able to develop his powers. Manifesting those powers and being the only child of the family meant he would one day take over for his mother and bear the responsibility in his village and his bloodline of being the next Supremo. At this time, he was taught various fields of magic that would be essential to his ascension to Supremo, such as transfiguration, potions and alchemy, divination, healing magic, caring for magical beasts, charms, and even the dark arts and how to defend against it.

Pre-Philippine Revolution

When Elias was 10 years old, the foundations of the Philippine Revolution were being put into place. This was putting everybody in danger, even the village his coven was part of. Because any sort of “witchcraft" and "magic” was persecuted by the Catholic clergy, Elias and Ma. Aurora became targets. (The erasure of these parts of the country's precolonial culture and beliefs were kindling to the motivations for the eventual Revolution in 1896.)

The village council heard that soldiers from opposing and oppressive Spanish forces against the Filipinos were planning to kill Elias and Ma. Aurora,. they decided it was best to have mother and son flee the country and seek refuge with allies abroad.

Before they left, Elias and Ma. Aurora packed some of their most valuable items and memorabilia from their house, including multiple volumes of manuscripts on Philippine magic, family trinkets and tokens, and many more. Elias also chose to save his father's glasses and use them as his own.

While they were escaping, Elias sustained an injury on the area of his right eye after he was shot at by a Spanish soldier. The soldier missed and shot a window by accident, but the glass from the window scratched Elias' face and left him with a permanent scar. His eye did not sustain any injuries.

Life in England

Elias and Ma. Aurora were taken in by their coven ally Marcelo Roman de la Iglesias y Alonzo. Marcelo is a newspaper illustrator, and Herbology author specializing in the magical properties of Philippine flora. Marcelo was also an Ilustrado, a member of the Filipino educated class during the Spanish colonial era, who was living in Brighton, England.

It took 3 years for Elias and his mom to adjust to life in England but they learned the British ways of life enough to get by from being able to use British currency to speaking basic English. To pass the time in refuge, he spent his time in Marcelo’s library, reading all the books he could find on herbology, ancient history, and everything about magic. He also helped out his mother with taking care of Marcelo’s greenhouse while Marcelo took good care of them.

Another Filipino and coven ally residing in Madrid, Fernando Realonda de Guzman, visited Elias, Ma. Aurora, and Marcelo to deliver the grave news that the village has been destroyed by the Spanish militia and that there were no survivors.

When Marcelo realized that he can no longer keep Elias and Ma. Aurora safe in his residence because rumors were afloat of the Mendozas’ survival and whereabouts in Brighton, he reached out to friends in the British Ministry of Magic and in the Hogwarts Board of Governors to help secure refuge for the mother-and-son duo at Hogwarts, believing that they will be safe at the castle while Marcelo began to pack up and move to Madrid with Fernando for the time being.

Hogwarts Years:

Year 3

When Elias turned 13, the Hogwarts Board of Governors granted refuge to Elias and Ma. Aurora, thanks to Marcelo’s connections to the school. In exchange for refuge, Elias must enroll at Hogwarts and complete his education all the way to Year 7 without failing his classes, while Ma. Aurora must use her abilities in healing as an assistant matron in the Hospital Wing.

Hogwarts sent Magical Theory Professor Eleazar Fig to help Elias adjust to western magic and even with the use of a wand. Elias only had a few weeks to learn before he, his mother, and Professor Fig departed for Hogwarts.

Elias was the last to be sorted in the Sorting Ceremony as he was the oldest and was sorted into Ravenclaw.

In the first few months of Hogwarts, he had a hard time adjusting to life at Hogwarts. Sure, he managed to even defeat a classmate (*ehem Sebastian Sallow ehem*) on his first day of class at Defense Against the Dark Arts but it was still difficult to manage using a wand. He also had a difficult time making friends as well since he entered his Hogwarts education very late. He even felt like none of the three years he spent adjusting to British life prepared him for what life at Hogwarts would be like. On the plus side of things, he was on amicable terms at first with his dormmates, which grew into a brotherhood he needed to keep going at Hogwarts.

Anne Sallow was actually one of Elias' first friends. She made the first move and pretty much integrated Elias into all of her friend activities with her twin brother Sebastian (whose ass Elias whipped in a duel quite earlier) and her other best friend, Ominis Gaunt. Initially, Ominis was rather guarded around Elias but warmed up to him when Elias was playing some rather beautiful Ave Maria in the music room one day. Elias and Ominis bonded over classical music and eventually became friends.

Year 4

The news of Anne Sallow's cursing broke Elias' heart. Anne was such a dear friend and a kind soul that he couldn't understand what sort of monster would want to harm Anne. Anne's absence from school left a hole in Elias' friend group that was noticed by everyone.

Elias realized that he was falling in love with the charming, intelligent, and charismatic Slytherin by the name of Sebastian Sallow. Sebastian was his best friend ever since Elias bested him within 10 seconds during their first duel at DADA on Elias' first day. Sebastian was one of the few people kind enough to reach out to Elias and be friends with him right off the bat. It was also Sebastian who made the most effort to get to know Elias and spend time with him as much as he could.

One fall afternoon from a trip to Hogsmeade, as they sat near the waterside and enjoyed some sweets, Sebastian and Elias had a conversation that led to an accidental revelation of love (from Sebastian). Elias was scared, knowing that he felt the same for Sebastian but didn't know if reciprocating was the best idea. For once, Elias chose to act with his heart and kissed Sebastian. Sebastian kissed the boy back as they held on to each other, not wanting to let each other go. After a while, they decided to give the idea of them a shot and become boyfriends.

Because Anne was still ill from her curse, Elias felt a bit of guilt for, as he would put it, indulging in a relationship with his friend's brother who was worrying over Anne on another level. Anne, however, had a feeling Elias and Sebastian would somehow end up together. Her being right was perhaps what made her crack a smile the day that her brother and her best friend visited her in Feldcroft.

Ma. Aurora knew of Elias’ relationship with Sebastian through her mother's intuition and the fact that Sebastian suspiciously started volunteering at the Hospital Wing after the two boys got together. He expected his mother to berate him for such a taboo, but was surprised that his mother did not care that Elias fell in love with a man. She knew that her relationship with her son mattered more over what society had to say about Elias and Sebastian, especially during a time when she knew she could lose her son at any time. She chose to be there for her son no matter what.

Year 5

At age 15, the world around him began to change as he started developing (quite rapidly) a different form of magic that had been rather latent: the use of an ancient magic that has never been seen for centuries. He learned that he had this ability on his journey back to Hogwarts after visiting London with Professor Fig to help secure his school supplies for his fifth year.

When Anne Sallow, Sebastian's twin sister, was teetering into a critical medical condition and was losing her life slowly but surely, Sebastian was at a tipping point and was close to using an ancient dark relic that may or may not have the ability to save Anne at the expense of Sebastian's humanity.

Ma. Aurora, Ominis, Amit Thakkar, and Natsai Onai, through the ancient manuscripts that the matron was able to save, found an ancient Filipino ritual that would allow a curse to be transferred back to its caster as long as the caster is living. Elias chose to participate in the ritual with his mother in order to save Anne Sallow, while Sebastian and Ominis waited outside the Hospital Wing anxiously. The ritual produced a specter of an dark and mangy street dog, ridden with ticks that carried the curse that haunted Anne. Ma. Aurora commanded the dog to find Victor Rookwood and infect him. The curse was successful, given how Victor Rookwood was constantly in pain upon his final confrontation with Elias outside Olivanders.

Solomon Sallow was obliviated, removing any memory he had of the battle at the catacombs, to protect Elias' and Sebastian's enrollment status at the school. Matilda Weasley was made aware of the situation but chose to shelf the incident, happy that Anne Sallow was saved but concerned over Elias and Sebastian's journey to achieve it. Professor Weasley granted mercy to the boys but warned them that she will not take future dalliances with dark magic as leniently next time.

Elias' final battle with Ranrok was watched by Sebastian (who was anxious the entire time and frustrated over not being able to do anything to help), Amit, Ominis (who relied on Amit's narration of events), the wheelchair-bound Natty, Poppy, and Garreth in the Map Chamber with the other professors. When the professors moved in to help battle the goblin armies, Herbology professor Mirabel Garlick and Deek the house-elf were tasked to watch over Elias' friends as they all watched the battle unfold on the floors of the Map Chamber. It seemed all hope was nearly lost when Elias sustained a critical hit from Ranrok's dragon, but Elias was able to strike back and win the battle for good.

To this day, nobody knows if Elias took the power of the repository for himself or if he let it lie where it lay.

Elias' victory over Ranrok in the final battle of the repository cost him his mentor, Professor Fig, who died peacefully in Elias' arms. The professors found them and were shocked and heartbroken to see their colleague and friend dead. Elias grieved, feeling as if his only father figure has been ripped away from him.

Eventually, Elias and Sebastian found time to process all the events that happened to them together and talk about their future. After everything they went through, they decided to stick together and keep going.

Post-Hogwarts:

Elias eventually graduated at the top of his class and found a job as a Curse-breaker for Gringotts. He and Sebastian eventually decide to move (with Ominis) to London to be closer to work. The trio, along with Ministry poacher hunters Natty and Poppy, astronomer Amit, chaser Imelda, and the rest of the gang, would get together once in a while to catch up and have fun like they were kids again.

Given how he and his mother no longer had the Village to return to, they decided it was best to have new lives in England. Ma. Aurora stayed at Hogwarts and continued her work as an assistant matron and eventually became the head matron of the Hospital Wing. She couldn't place a finger on it, but working as a healer seemed to give her more peace than when she was the head of the coven; and so, she chose the more peaceful path in her life. She eventually tutors Anne Sallow, who chooses to become a healer herself at Hogwarts after much work experience at St. Mungo's. Elias still kept in touch with his mother.

Elias eventually married Sebastian and they had three children: two boys (Eleazar Alfonso and Santiago Vittorio) and a girl (Leonora Anne), with the latter two being named after Eleazar Fig; Elias' father, Victor; Elias’s mother, Ma. Aurora Leonor; and, Anne Sallow, respectively. Eleazar and Leonora were sorted into Ravenclaw while the middle child Santiago was put in Slytherin.

After exciting careers that took them around the world, the two settled in Brighton. They settled in the home that was previously owned by Elias' old family friend, Marcelo de la Iglesias, after the latter chose to settle in Paris, France permanently.

When life calmed down for Elias and Sebastian as the kids grew up, It was during this time that Elias decided to turn all of what he learned of the ancient magic he learned from his former coven and from his time as a Keeper of ancient magic at Hogwarts into a book, supported by Sebastian and his intensive habit cross-referencing. The notes have been completed and a manuscript was finished, shelved away with hopes to turn them into a book.

X. ETYMOLOGICAL/REFERENTIAL TRIVIA

Elias’ village, Ang Nayon ni Maria (Maria’s Village), is hidden remotely away in Mount Makiling in the province of Laguna. The village acted as a place of refuge for many magical families. The name Maria is a reference to Maria Makiling, the mountain guardian and deity who protects the aforementioned mountain and its bounty.

Elias developed a liking for hot chocolate in Britain as it reminded him of tsokolate tablea from back home in the Philippines. Tablea are (literally) tablets of roasted, ground, and molded fermented pure (100%) cacao beans. Preparation for tsokolate tablea is different from European hot chocolate, in which the end result of tsokolate tablea is a thicker and richer beverage compared to the European version.

Elias’ “debt of gratitude” is a reference to a common Filipino trait called “utang na loob”, which literally translates to “a debt of one’s inner self”. In Filipino psychology, “utang na loob” is an “accomodative surface value” wherein one accommodates what the world wants. “Utang na loob” is rooted in the essence of obligation to repay a debt that is beyond an ordinary debt or the Western notion of owing a favor. In Elias’ case, he’s attempting to repay debt that is impossible to quantify (ie. his being granted refuge at Hogwarts).

The ancient Filipino ritual Ma. Aurora uses to heal Anne is inspired by the 2022 Filipino-Irish psychological thriller film, Nocebo, directed by Lorcan Finnegan and starring Eva Green and Chai Fonacier. The film revolves around a children's fashion designer being plagued with an unknown illness and turns to a Filipino nanny who uses traditional folk healing methods "to reveal a horrifying truth" to her illness.

Hi all! So, thank you for making it this far. I’m sure to edit a bunch of stuff along the way so yeah. Plus, I’m literally fucking with the timeline here because I… honestly could not care enough about it lol.

I also couldn't bear the thought of Anne Sallow dying without a cure. I don't have the heart to just let her die like that so I did research on possible ways to cure Anne in Philippine mythology.

HOW OMINIS SOLVES MY PROBLEM WITH THE GAUNT FAMILY : (and fucks with the timeline so we can give the middle finger to jkr and co)

Ominis (Ellis) is the 7th child of the House of Gaunt, under Marvolo Gaunt Senior,33, and Salome Gaunt,32, née Flint.

Cyrus Gaunt, grandfather, patriarch, (Salazar Slytherin :: parselcraft. legillimency. dark arts. charms. IRISH Cadmus Peverell :: 2d bro, arrogant. resurrection stone. suicide. conjuration// magical manufacturer married to Medea Sayre, from a cadet branch of the Sayre family (many times removed from Morrigan and branching off way before Isolt Sayre, founder of Ilvermony) (Morrigan Sayre :: transfiguration. animagus (crow). potion IRISH) Salome was a dark witch, obsessed with bringing power to the Family through any means necessary. She practised heavily the dark arts, in a family coven where the leader told her the 7th of her child would bring power and longevity to her bloodline. With that in mind, she conceived every child with mindless devotion. When she had difficulties to get pregnant for the last, she convinced her husband to do it in a dark ritual. She died during childbirth, the dark magic eating her completely. When she passed, Marvolo junior, (Vitellius) the eldest of her children was 12 and at Hogwarts, Bertram (Oswald) just starting too at 11 yo. Amarantha, (Verna) the oldest daughter was just shy of her 9th birthday, Cassius 7,(Fergus) Reuben 6 (Gilbert) and Elda 4 (Lucrezia). All of them were raised in Gaunt Castle with their paternal grandparents, Cyrus & Medea. Of their two aunts, Noctua, was actually the same age as Marvolo jnr and at Hogwarts too while Semele, the oldest was 19 and barely out of Hogwarts. She was betrothed to the youngest Yaxley, Mercurius . The children were all instructed in the dark arts by their mother, aunt and grandmother, and in parselcraft by their grandfather. Their father had very little to do with them, barely interested in having children himself. He wouldn’t have had any at all if not for the House Patriarch, Cyrus, having no other male child and his wife insistence to have seven. The Gaunt Family was an Old and Noble House well versed in dark magic and parselfcraft, but Marvolo snr had no ambitions nor thirst for knowledge. He coast at best at Hogwarts, barely got any NEWT and had never been invited in any conclave because of it. He didn’t even work, wasting his day away by drinking and terrorizing muggles when he went out. His mother had to go through the coven she was part of to find a bright witch, willing to settle down with a disappointing husband with the promise of being inducted in parselcraft. The family followed the Old Religion, rejecting the new muggle variant of Halloween, Christmas and so on…

They often had celebration for Samhain, instead of Halloween. Bonfire were held in magical community and magical families took from the fire to bring home where all light were extinguished and relit with the fire from the bonfire. Children often did their first rituals during samhain to pay respect to the Family and their ancestors.

Next was Yule, or Christmas, for the winter solstice, sacrifice and offering.

After came Imbolc (chandeleur bb) on the February 1st. Fertility and sex rituals were often done at this time.

Ostara, pâques for spring equinox. Offering and sacrifice. Beltane, the night of the last day of april and the 1st of may where bonfire where held and rituals of protection were done.

Lithan, summer solstice. Offering and sacrifices, 21 juin.

Lughnasa 1st of August, rituals.

Mabon, autumn equinox, sacrifice and offering . Born 1st November, at Samhain, (conceived in sex ritual during imbolc) Ominis was born blind. It wasn’t a surprise as the parents had used a dark ritual to conceive and those were known to take a heavy price from the child born out of it. But where most wizard would have been disappointed, and Marvolo Snr sure was, Cyrus knew better. That child was imbued in dark magic from birth and would master it that much easier. Especially with a birth on Samhain, strongest day for dark magic and with his mother dying during birth as an offering. If parselmagic settled in the child, it would be no problem to survive and thrive. Ominis was a bright, brilliant child. He got his first vision at 5 years old. While he was eating with the family during the Yule break, the family was planning the marriage of their oldest son Marvolo Junior to the eldest daughter, Amarantha. Marvolo jnr seemed to have taken after his father in laziness and non ambitions, willing to cruise on family wealth and being a descendant of Salazar Slytherin. The daughter, one of the brightest witch in her year would hopefully be able to continue and lead the Family. During the conversation, which Amarantha wasn’t really happy about, Ominis suddenly went still, his unseeing eyes opened wide and his usually milky blue colour turned the colour of a starry night. Noctua who was the one talking to him, called to her mother. "Mother? Mother, look. Ominis is being weird."

"Weirder than usual?" Reuben snickered in his hand. Medea turned to them and one look at Ominis, went pale. "Oh, dear." She got up, spelled Ominis with a mobilicorpus and left with him. She got him to his room, lying him on his bed and waited with baited breath. Before long, he started to shake and cry, having come back from his prophetic trance. Medea took her in her arms.

"Shh, my darling. It’s gonna be alright." "G… g… grandm-a!" sobbed Ominis. "Shhh, it’s going to be alright, dear. Tell Grandmother what you saw, we’ll make it alright." "F… Father. He… he... he is going to kill us all…" hiccuped Ominis. "What do you mean darling?" And Ominis had to explain how his own father, bending the knee to a Dark Lord in a quest to kill all muggles, would have nearly all his children killed in a war. In absolute horror, Medea called for a house elf and ask them for a sleeping potion. Dosing her grandchild so he’d sleep without dreams so he’d have some rest, she left him and went back to the dining table. It had taken a good 20 minutes but no one had moved away, under Cyrus order to finish their meal. Medea sat back and announced. "Ominis had a vision. Lady magic blessed him with a warning for our Family. None of you will pester him to know what it is about. But let is be known that the House of Gaunt will take that warning to heart and not have any allegiance to any Dark Lord during any of our life time. We will have a ritual on Beltane, all of you are to participate, were we’ll ask Lady Magic for protection about this very vision she warned us about. We will swear a vow to not get involve. I will hear no complain.”

Cyrus said nothing but nodded pensively. He didn’t know what happened in this vision to have Medea react so strongly. His wife family had already history with muggles and the Gaunt Family, when one of them had killed the Sayre patriarchal line and only a cadet branch had survived. He would talk to his wife but he himself didn’t care much either way, his wife had always done everything she could to make sure the Family would be strong and strive. And she’d never go against Lady Magic. Not after the gift they’d been given. Doing anything to jeopardize that would be akin to the ritual suicide of their entire House.

Ominis next big vision had come merely months later. Noctua had been searching for Slytherin’s Scriptorium for months, giving regular update about how close she seems to be getting. While she wasn’t alone at Hogwarts, with her many nephews and niece also attending, she had taken to the task alone. One morning, while Cyrus had been teaching his grandson some parselcraft, Ominis suddenly froze, wide starry night eyes and mouth ajar on a silent scream. Cyrus acted as his wife had, taking the boy to his bed and waited. He called a house elf to let Medea know. He wondered briefly if the vision had to do with the previous one. Sometimes, seers would be unable to see anything but a specific *

When Ominis finally got back to himself, a mere 5 minutes had passed. Much quicker than his last one, but the after effect seemed to be the same. Shaking and crying, calling for his youngest aunt. "Ominis please, stop this immediatly and explain your vision. Crying about it won’t solve anything." "Grandpa?" called Ominis, putting his arms out and trying to grab in the direction the steady voice came. "Yes, my boy. I’m here" he answered, taking the little hand in his bigger one. "Tell me what you saw. Was it about your aunt Noctua? Why were you calling for her?" "She’s looking for something alone. And she’s gonna die because it’s not made to be found by one person. She’s stuck in front of a door, a screaming door and it won’t open.

“Are ye home, lass?”

“I’m out back!”

“Not gotten lost yet then?” The 6ft7 Scottish born werewolf teased as he followed the familiar scent of his human Pack-mate around the cottage and into the back part of the property. It took a few minutes to actually work out where the quiet gender-fluid witch was but then sharp wolf hearing picked up light footsteps coming closer. It didn’t surprise the almost 28 year old to find her in what most would call a garden. Although garden was probably not the right word for the cottage came with four acres of land.

“Now why would I get lost? The first thing I did when I first came to stay here, was to learn the land." A tanned faintly scarred hand ran through waist length dull red hair as Skiâ came over to give the older man a quick hug. She stepped back after a moment and eyed the Catanach Pack’s Alpha with slight curiosity as he was meant to be at work. After moving to the small Scottish town of Killin this summer, it hadn’t taken her long to figure out the general routine of the permanent residents there. It also hadn’t taken her long to become a permanent part of that routine either. “What’s up, Sam? You’re meant to be at work.”

“Trust ye tae ken where I’m meant tae be right now.” He grinned at seeing the English witch’s shrug but also noticed the coiled defensiveness of her magic, which wasn’t new unfortunately. At the question, Sam sighed and used his senses to check for any hidden dangers. Not that he was expecting to find any, due to the strong wards that had been put up when Skiâ first moved in. Dark eyes focused back on her and after a moment to get his thoughts organised, he finally said the reason why he was here. “Are ye up tae anythin' today?"

“Besides gardening? Not really, It’s the Summer holidays.” She eyed her friend with faint curiosity, recognising that something was bugging him. Or setting his wolf off, she wasn’t sure which. Either way, it wasn’t good. “Stop stalling.”

Sam wavered for a moment but seeing the narrowing look of the Panther Animagus, answered. “Filius contacted me a few minutes ago. He thinks Dumbledore an' certain members of the Order may have messed up a ritual rather spectacularly. No one double checked the translations properly an' the ritual’s not written in a language he fully recognise. Yer one of the few people who kens various old languages an' he wants ye there tae take a another look at the ritual.”

Grey eyes remained narrowed for a moment, before they widened with horror. The darker natured Gryffindor didn’t need to even see the book, in order to identify it. As there was only one book of rituals in a old language she knew of and it had gone missing from the 4th year dorm room she had shared with her twin, George and Lee Jordan.

“Ye know what book it is.” The nod was all he needed. “Then go an' stop 'em from causin' anymore damage. If ye need help, call.”

That wasn’t a question. It was a quiet command from her Pack Alpha and she nodded quickly, before sprinting off. Due to never knowing when situations would occur, the former Weasley always kept a ready to go bag just inside her front door. She grabbed it and a jacket, before using the shadows to get to where her Charms teacher, Filius Flitwick, was. “Prof- Duck!” Seconds was all Skiâ needed to take in what was happening- and the spiral of magic was all she needed to know what ritual the Headmaster had tried to use.

Without even questioning the red haired teenage witch, all of the Order of Phoenix members ducked and a wave of magic shot out from the built up spiral. They had most certainly gotten the translations wrong for it should have been a relatively simple, old Gaelic warding ritual. But if someone translated it who didn’t know their old Scottish very well, the ritual could be turned into a portal and cause problems. “Shit. Yeah they messed it up. Big time.”

“Skiâ?”

“It’s meant to be a simple old Scottish Gaelic warding ritual. But mistranslated turns it into a one way portal and now it’s pulling someone from another place to here.” The explanation was quick but no one misunderstood her at all, not even the Headmaster. There was nothing they could do to stop it though and all they could was wait. Unaware that the ritual would be pulling someone from another world in another universe and who would change a certain Gryffindor’s life.

Summary: Badeea leads the evacuation of a group of students from Hogwarts while worrying about her husband.

"If he was dead, I'd know,"

With her wand lit like a lighthouse, Badeea faces the darkness of the narrow tunnel leading to the Hog's Head Inn in Hogsmeade. In her other hand, she holds that of a terrified pupil connected to the next pupil, who is just as frightened. This is one of the last groups to be evacuated from the castle, the arena of the ultimate battle against You-Know-Who. Some students sob. Others weep silently, while others lock themselves in a tense silence that the warmth of a mother's embrace will only break.

On her side, Badeea thinks about her husband, who left to evaluate the enemy forces and who still hasn't returned. The witch prays in her mind that nothing untoward has happened while keeping a precious certainty. Only one certainty. Talbott is not dead. Because if her husband had died, Grim Reaper's scythe would also have struck her heart, which would have shattered like crystal.

But Death is not the only one to fear tonight. His companions, 'Pain' and 'Injury', are ahead of him. Therefore, Badeea is eager for her beloved husband, a disciplined auror with the soul of a poet who reserves the exclusive reading of his most beautiful verses for her.

He must come back to her!

Their story began with them working in tandem in their quest to find the last cursed vault. Combining their talents and their respective needs for solitude, they learned to tame and then appreciate each other.

And when one day Badeea asked him to pose for her, Talbott finally agreed, overcome by her insistence. The artist was able to capture the mysterious charm of her model, with his proud, even aristocratic, posture, and she let her emerging feelings shine through in her work.

Thus, love blossomed until that wonderful day when he proposed to her, after having watched her all afternoon painting a field of flowers with the breeze carrying away clouds of petals, a fairy-tale image the painter dreamed of immortalising.

With patience, Talbott waited for their wedding night to reverently take her virginity. A detail that probably precipitated their marriage, but Badeea never regretted it. She loves Talbott for better and for worse until death does them part, as they say in the romantic comedies her mother sometimes watches...

And Death hasn't separated them, not yet. The witch knows if it did. So Badeea prays with all her soul for an imminent reunion. She has no choice. Badeea must believe it.

The witch temporarily lets go of the hand of the child who is following her to put back the few strands of hair that have escaped from her dark hijab dotted with stars.

"Cheer up, kids! We're almost there."

At the end of the tunnel, Aberforth's great silhouette appears in the door's recess he has just opened. He holds a torch, and something lies on his forearm. With his dark face and scowl, he looks even more grumpy than usual.

"Ah, it's you... You're just in time!"

Badeea's blood freezes and her heart races. "Talbott!"

She rushes up to the old wizard and delicately grasps what is resting on his forearm, taking care not to pull at his long salt-and-pepper beard.The eagle squeaks.

"The mascot snuck in and dropped him off here," says Aberforth.

Badeea frowns, trying to remember who the wizard is calling by that name.

"Barnaby?" she asks, delicately lifting the crude bandage around the animagus to inspect his wound.

Aberforth nods.

"I almost attacked him until he waved your husband in front of me like a white flag!" The wizard glances around at the students, huddled together, and winces as he recognises a few Slytherin children of Death Eaters’ descent. "It sounds serious! Take Winger to Pomfrey's quickly. I'll take care of the kids,"

"Thank you, Aberforth, and stay safe."

"And thank you, Barnaby," she adds in her mind, a little relieved to find that their former classmate still has such a tender heart despite his current allegiance.

Without looking back, Badeea returns to the castle as fast as her legs can carry her, competing in speed with Tonks, whom she passed earlier in the same tunnel. The witch tries to chase away the spectre of Death, which hovers like a scavenger around the bird of prey.

"Death! Go away! It's not time yet!"

Am I getting aurally-drunk by listening to the song on repeat as I draft a risk assessment? You betcha.

Oh my lord - the total concept of Merula being roped into singing - but I can totally see it (even if totally non-canon) starting out nervous, voice a little husky. As the tempo and texture builds at the end of the first verse and the 4 bar instrumental she hears the crowd cheering her and the look of awe on MCs face, she realises *right down to her core* that she can do this and she doesn't need to be scared of rejection anymore. Heart ready to burst at the realisation, her voice steadies and broadens as air resonates through her mouth. She picks up the pace, vocally running alongside the accompaniment when she belts "So if you're out there in the cold, I'll cover you in moonlight". By the time she reaches bridge "Some nights we open up the flood and we are lost" people are standing. She risks a glance down at MC, eyes full of adoration, before raising her arms and with wandless magic fills the room with starlight and an aurora of violets, blues and pinks. At this moment, she feels not only joy but liberation.

AH. GOD.

Or, Merula singing with the fervour of a 1st year theatre student while alone at Snyde Manor is totally a thing. Running in the fields behind the manor shifting in and out of her animagus form, singing until she is out of breath - again totally a thing.

This song may be used to inspire in a horse ride through the Scottish highlands between Merula and the protagonist in my fic too. I'll think on it.

The closest you’ll get to a fic from me: Years in the future, Merula and Lily are well into their relationship and both very comfortable with who they are. Merula complains the whole way to the stage, “Do I have to?”—“This wasn’t even my idea.”—“I can’t believe you’re making me do this.” But once she gets up there, she doesn’t hesitate. She rocks it, and she has a ton of fun doing so. The complaining was just for show; she knows she loves this, and she knows she’s good at it. And Lily just watches from her table, looking so proud.

Merula singing alone is definitely canon in more ways than one. Merula singing when she’s not alone is canon in more ways than one. In HPHM, she both sings in the shower and in the Frog Choir if you let her. In The Mad Witch, she sings while cooking, even when Lily is there. There’s so much potential.

This jet-black wand wood has an impressive appearance and reputation, being highly suited to all manner of combative magic, and to Transfiguration. At Hogwarts_ Anything you can use on a prank. Some defensive spells as while Hogwarts was fairly accepting of her she did get a bit hassled ( there’s always that one occasional asshole) about both being a girl in the quidditch team and how she chooses to dress out of uniform. Some offensive spells from when she got into fights/duels in the halls along Taghd and Teddy. Her best spells are the ones used to sneak around her mother and grandmother.

Out Of Hogwarts_ While not a spell, apparition becomes her most used magical feat as she likes to visit her friends as they all settle into her adult lives. She also learns a bit of healing spells from either Adelia or Teddy ( and at both their insistence that if she’s going to be getting into trouble out there she should be able to patch herself up a bit. )

*In the Taghd Dies Verse where she becomes an auror she adds a lot of offensive spells to her arsenal “best defense is a good offense right?” Theo no.

*Theo tends to prefer Hogwarts robes and wizard fashion in general more as they’re more gender neutral. ( as in both genders wear robes though they differ in style and in Hogwarts case they do not differ at all from one gender to the other) so she wears them more.

When it comes to muggle clothing she’s most comfortable on cable knit sweaters and plaid ( though she favors the former a lot more) because she used to steal Taghd’s though if she has to “dress up” she’ll wear more masc fashion. She’s influenced by Teddy’s fashion sense a bit for that. She also wears her Gryffindor tie even after leaving Hogwarts but with dress robes/a shirt and vest instead.

She tends to prefer more muted colors with like accents of one color or one point of color (i know nothing about fashion please bear with me. Hopefully the pinterest helps)

Background/History

Pre Hogwarts: Theo was an “indiscretion” born to Emily Abott and an unknown ( to most) muggleborn wizard. The family kept her, fed her, made sure she knew the proper way for an Abott to act, but there was no affection to this and Theo sometimes wondered if it wasn’t only out of duty that her family did all this. After it becomes obvious that Theo who dresses in boy’s clothes, never keeps a comment inside her mind, and buckles against the propriety forced upon her more and more as the years pass is not going to be changing to fit what her family thinks she should be; it’s decided to send her to Hogwarts where she’ll at least be kept out of sight.

4th Year: Was sent to Hogwarts by her family to be kept out of sight and hopefully shape up ( with the added sentiment that if she does not, at the very least she’ll be out of sight) Met Taghd Lynch, Lu Morrison, Teddy Ellison and Adelia Selwyn.

5th Year: tba

6th Year: tba

7th Year: tba. Graduates with her friends. Though she undoubtedly has to leave some behind as I can see her befriending underclassmen.

Out of school: At some point she moves back closer to Teddy either because she received the news that Taghd died or that Taghd almost died. ( depending on the “canon” or “Taghd Lives AU”)

At some point she might adopt a daughter who is as chaotic as she was and then some ( though much more open and less angry/defensive because Theo’s a better parent than her mother )

In the Universe where Tagdh dies she becomes an Auror alongside Teddy.

At some point she cuts her parents off Completely ( no letters, no firecalls, nothing absolutely nothing) whether this happens because they did something that just got to her too much or it was more a case of her getting away and going “wooow they’re actually horrible to me” remains to be seen but she’ll come to rely on her friends for moral support and also to figure out how to live on her own without their monetary support.

Personality

Temperamental and impulsive ‘’jump now, think later’’/’’it looked like a good idea at the time’’ sort of person. Disaster Bisexual. Gets angry quick but it fades just as quickly. Frank, warm, empathetic. Honest-sometimes too honest- The one in a friend group to try to make people laugh. Will encourage you to hex someone who hurts you ‘’hell I’ll help you/cover for you’’ (That Friend) the opposite of the common sense friend. ( ‘’sounds illegal, I’m in.’’ )

Theo’s general status is defensive which to her can often be loud and assertive ( and a bit abrasive though she’s usually sorry about that last one when it happens) due to insecurities that took root during her time with her mother and her family To wit, she believes she needs to defend the way she is subconsciously since it was often the case at home and this leaks into her personality. When she met all her friends her first setting was “im like this and Deal with it” expecting resistance but when she met none ( as her friends all accepted her for who she is) she became a lot less so. ( shes still loud and chaotic as that's also part of who she is but she’s a lot less defensive afterwards.)

Has a really loud laugh. When she’s goofing with her friends or talking to them and laughing with them you can hear it echo through the halls.

Is sort of...a loud person in general.

Theo’s a passionate individual and incredibly stubborn when she sets her mind to something.

Skips the sad/crying phase and goes straight to angry. Might or might not have “/don’t cry/show weakness” complex. Her other emotions however are expressed be they annoyance, happiness ( her laughter Echoes through the corridors when she’s happy about something) excitement ect ect ad infinitum.

Her poker face is shit though. She couldn’t keep her opinions through herself if she tried. Her face will say them for her.

She’s fiercely fiercely protective of her friends and found family. ( see: “would happily hit Teddy’s dad with a blugger if she finds out about him being abusive ‘’curses out ppl who say mean things to Adelia or Lu and half the time will wind up throwing down for it” and of course “I’m actually going to Kill Cillian” circa Taghd’s duel in the Taghd lives AU as examples)

Misc:

Theo’s animagus form is a Pine Marten. She learned it specifically so she could get out of the house which she often found overbearing due to her mother, grandmother, and aunts attitudes towards her.

While her family kept her, fed her and clothed her it was done out of combination of duty and not wanting to waste magical blood. They might have love for her but it’s very clearly overridden by ( if not outright contingent on) their need forTheo being the kind of child they think she ought to be which she is very much not and only grows to stray more and more from it as she grows up)

Theo sometimes does suspect they did it more out of duty than any love but tries not to think about it deeply or think about them at all if she can help it ( and with an entire castle to explore with friends and mischief to manage with those same friends it becomes quite easy)

She has a fascination for the muggle world because it was her father’s world and the part of her her family shuns and kept her from knowing about.

She’s often in trouble with either Taghd or Teddy ( or both) or Lu ( or all three) and the teachers might or might not have a running tally of which combination causes the most chaos.

Theo learns Gaelic from Taghd-they start with the swear words and then she just really wants to learn the language.

Whereas Taghd tends to complain about getting dragged into fights by Teddy and her but does it Theo’s more like you feel the air shift next to you and...yup. Yup she’s there.

If her friends are in a fight nine out ten times she’s there too. That one of ten times she’s not there, she’s going to be soon.

Theo’s a night owl and can often be found the last in the common room reading or writing or talking to Taghd or Teddy or Lu. Sometimes she’ll sneak out to fly. ( specially on really clear nights)

She’s perfected the art of wolfing down breakfast in the last minutes before going to class or even just grabbing a piece of bread and running off to class because of this. As it'll lead to her oversleeping.

Adelia’s her mom friend and possibly one of the few people that can tell her what to do without her going ‘how bout i do anyways.png’

She writes a lot and can be seen talking animatedly about it mostly to fellow writer friend Teddy Ellison.

She’s bit Taghd’s brother Cillian in her animagus form at least once. It was the subject of laughter in the Gryffindor table for a good week after. Theo, ( who keeps her animagus form a secret aside from her closest friends because its a way she has to get away from people or hide or cause trouble when she wants to) becomes very interested in whatever’s in front of her and trying not to laugh when it gets brought up.

She gets really attached to Teddy’s mom ( and is a bit jealous of how nice a mother her friend has) as she both from her experience and what she gathers from Tagdh and other friends of hers she didn’t...think parents could be nice? Like empirical evidence just overall does not seem to be in their favor tbh (specially mothers) and she’s mystified by her and overall thinks she’s wonderful.

This also means she dislikes Teddy’s dad that much more ( though she keeps it to herself around Teddy’s mother ) because as far as she’s concerned he doesn’t deserve her or Teddy with what some of his actions are.

Tends to be physical with her close friends ( bumping shoulders, linking arms as they walk hand on shoulder) though on different levels depending on the different dynamics and how comfortable they themselves are with it.

She hates all the propriety she was brought up with ( one of the bonding things she Taghd had was their shared lack of decorum) but one of the things she enjoyed to learn back in Godric Hollow was calligraphy. She stills practices it as a hobby, keeping multiple colors of ink in her room at Hogwarts and later in life. She likes making calligraphy for her friends and also when they’re adults makes calligraphy for each of their children with their favorite stories.

I’m hoping to get back to doing more content ( including other profiles for mcs I’ve mentioned and going back to my hphm kiddo Marti and writing out gameplay now that I have more spoons. Figured this was a good place to start.

ANIMAGI

Becoming an Animagi is a very complicated process, as it gives us the opportunity to take on an animal figure. According to the law of the Ministry of Magic, all animagus must register in the List of Animagus, and anyone who fails to comply with this statement and is found to be exercising this ability will be imprisoned in Azkaban with immediate effect. Hogwarts students learn about the Animagus for the first time in their third year as part of the Transformation curriculum, but the practice of the ability can only be started from the fifth year forward due to the difficult nature of the process.

The process of becoming an Animagus is not easy at all. For example, one step is to keep a mandrake leaf in your mouth for a month. Unfortunately, we are unable to choose what kind of animal we will become at the end of the process but we do know that it will be closely related to our personality. If we master the Patronus spell sooner than we become an Animagus, we could deduce it from that, since these two are oftentime the same (though not always). Animagi may seem like a perfect disguise to us, yet, it may happen that we will carry some of our hallmarks in our animal form as well. It is important to note that the animagus animal cannot be a magical creature such as a dragon or thestral!

In North America, animagus are sometimes known as "Skinwalkers." Indigenous animagus are very closely related to the legend of skinwalkers. The myth is about evil witches and wizards who could turn into animals and acquired this ability by sacrificing a family member. These, of course, were just rumors they used to terrify those without magic.

The exact process is extremely difficult and can lead to disaster (e.g., a semi-animal, semi-human mutation) if done incorrectly. First of all, anyone who wants to be an animagus must keep a mandrake leaf in their mouth for about a month (from a full moon to a full moon). If this leaf is removed somehow, the process must start all over again. At the next clear full moon (if the moon is not clearly visible, it should be postponed), one must spit the leaf into a vial at the clear rays of the moon. They will also need to put their own hair, a silver teaspoon of dew (from a place that has not been affected by sunlight or human feet for seven days) - and a cocoon of a death-head butterfly. The mixture should be placed in a quiet, dark place and should not be touched or disturbed in any way.

The next step is to just wait for an electrical storm. During this waiting period, at every sunrise and sunset, the spell of the Amato Animo Animato Animagus must be chanted while placing the tip of one's wand over their heart. Finally, when the storm arrives, the user needs to secure a big, safe place, say the spell one last time, and drink the potion.

APPARITION

Apparition is a magical method of transportation and is essentially the magical action of travelling by having the user focus on a desired location in their mind, then disappear from their current location and instantly reappear. In short, it is a form of teleportation. It is by far the fastest way to get to one's destination, but is tricky to pull off correctly and disastrous if botched.

Apparition is a very popular method of travel in the wizarding world, though brooms, Floo Powder or portkeys may be preferred as the feeling of Apparition can be unpleasant to some. According to Wilkie Twycross, a prior Ministry of Magic official and Apparition Instructor, one has but to recall The Three D's: Destination, Determination and Deliberation. Users must be completely determined to reach one's destination, and move without haste, but with deliberation.

Apparition can cause an audible noise ranging from a small faint pop to a loud crack that may sound to Muggles like a car backfiring. House-elves may also Apparate but without some of the restrictions that wizards have. When they apparate, the sound is mostly a loud crack.

A variant of Apparition used to transport two or more individuals at once is called Side-Along Apparition. This method may be used by adults seeking to transport underage wizards or in some cases a licensed individual may use this method to transport an injured party. To perform this version of Apparition, the more able party Apparates with the other party holding onto their arm. This method is recommended by the Ministry of Magic for parents with underage children to escape from danger quickly. House-elves can also do Side-Along Apparition. Side-Along Apparition can also be forced against the other person's will, though this does require great concentration of the perpetrator.

A Licence to Apparate is required to practise Apparition legally. Users must be at least seventeen years old to obtain such a licence. While it is physically possible to Apparate without a licence it is not advisable, because injury could result. Splinching can occur when one has insufficient determination to reach one's goal, causing certain body parts to fail to arrive at the destination with the wizard. Apparition may have a certain range and becomes increasingly difficult with the distance to be travelled. Inter-continental Apparition should only be attempted by the most highly skilled of wizards.

LEGILIMENS/OCCLUMENS

Muggles often refer to the ability of legilimency as ”mind-reading”. The mind is a complex and multifaceted thing and those who develop this ability to perfection can say that they will also be able to read thoughts in some sense. The person who practices this art is known as a Legilimens in the wizarding world, and its counterpart is Occlumency. There are also beings in nature who are capable of a similar process, but it is precisely because of their racial differences that these methods differ from those of man. A good example of this is one of the symbols of Ilvermorny’s four houses, the Wampus, which is thought to apply its ability through its eyes.

It is not known which witch or wizard 'invented' Legilimency or exactly when. There are witches and wizards who can easily master the ability - born talents, although in several cases it later turns out that someone passed on their knowledge to them - and there are those who can take a lot of time, even years, to develop it. The most talented can use it without a wand or nonverbally. In all other cases the spell of Legilimens is needed.

If the target is not trained in Occlumency, the caster is able to see into their thoughts, emotions, memories. There are highly educated individuals who can influence those as well - from a simple emotional shock to a false vision. This trait is usually attributed to dark magic practitioners.Hogwarts does not teach Legilimency or Occlumency, as the use violates people’s privacy; it is also legally restricted and regulated.

An experienced Occlumens is able to completely close their mind to the legilimens. Occlumency can completely prevent the Legilimens from accessing and influencing thoughts, emotions, and memories. The most basic form of Occlumency is when the caster completely empties their mind. More advanced Occlumens have the ability to suppress feelings within them, hide their memories, completely contradict, and show only what they want to the Legilimens to see. They are able to create a false layer that the Legilimens may believe is real while they are hiding in a deeper point in their minds. This requires a great deal of effort as well as mental and emotional discipline.

METAMORPHMAGUS

The Metamorphmagus trait is a rare ability that endows the possessor with voluntary body modification. This quality can only be acquired through birth (inheritance). The difference between Animagi and Metamorphmagi is that while a Metamorphmagus can take many forms, change their gender, age, or even just part of their appearance (such as the color of their hair), an Animagi can only change into a single animal shape. The characteristic details on which the existence of Metamorphmagus abilities can appear early on for the owner, even as a newborn.

Due to the rarity of witches and wizard with Metamorphmagi skills, there is no training available on which they can develop their skill; they learn largely from their own mistakes and attempts. They don’t need a wand to transform and are able to eventually get to the point where they can focus on their specific transformations. Often, however, a Metamorphmagus is influenced by their emotions, which is reflected in their appearance. Severe traumas and persistent emotional states such as grief and shock can prevent or even limit entirely the use of the ability.

NONVERBAL MAGIC

Nonverbal spells are those typically performed with a wand but without needing to say the incantation out loud. The advantage is that those who progress to using magic without shouting incantations gain an element of surprise in their spell-casting, but it’s a feat that requires enormous concentration and mind power with the spell-caster having to summon the spell in their mind, rather than out loud. Some simpler spells are easier to perform nonverbally than others. Most spells, however, seemed to be less effective than normal when the incantation was not said.

Different wand woods and cores might also affect the performance of casting non-verbal magic. Many wands made from Dogwood are rather noisy and refuse to perform nonverbal magic, whereas wands of Pine are some of the most sensitive to nonverbal magic. Willow wands possess a well-founded reputation for enabling advanced, non-verbal magic, but of all woods, Alder is known as being the best suited for non-verbal magic.

OMNILINGUALISM

Omnilingualism is a lesser-known trait and special ability. The origin of which is unclear, but those who have the ability are extremely receptive to language learning which extends to the languages of magical beings and their seemingly unlearnable dialects. One of the main theories is that it appears in bloodlines where there was a magic creature among the ancestors, but there is no clear evidence for this.

Although those with the ability also go through the process of language learning, unlike others, it almost “sticks” on them. They immediately understand the logic and patterns in the language as well as excel in pronunciation. If they recognize their talent in time, they may become a great interpreter and translator and in the most extreme cases, be able to learn more than a hundred languages.

Throughout history, a small amount of witches and wizards with have been thought to possess this quality and showcased certain talents in speaking to other species (such as merfolk), but none of them have been about to access languages that are unique abilities in their own right — for example, not a single Omnilingual could replicate the innate senses Parseltongues are born with.

PARSELTONGUE

It is a truly rare, genetically based ability that was indeed recorded before Salazar Slytherin, though most modern day Parselmouths are direct descendants of the Hogwarts founder in some fashion. Possessors of the ability may be able to do more than simply communicating with snakes depending on systematic, supervised practice. Such practices and the ability itself should be treated with the utmost discretion, possibly cultivated in secret because of the general negative judgments on the ability. Snakes symbolize danger in many cultures, and accordingly, in the world of witches and wizards, the ability can cause fear towards the user.

The speech of snakes is not like the foreign languages spoken by humans and is in no way similar to the languages of magical beings. Those can be mastered with more or less practice by anyone, but the Parseltongue cannot be learned. There have been cases where a few words work with repetitio and if a snake were nearby they could understand, but full mastery is impossible for those without the ability. However, with the immediate proximity of a snake, or the idea of face-to-face, even the weaker members of the ability are able to communicate easily and instinctively with the slithering animals.

Of course, whoever is more receptive to a close-to-nature lifestyle and likes the world of reptiles will find it easier to master the basics of Parseltongue. Communication with each other is not a problem for such people either. A very small proportion of parselmouths are not only able to talk to snakes but can easily influence and manipulate them. While typically viewed as a dark ability, the Ministry has struggled to regulate it and strive to learn about the ability through research. As one might imagine, finding volunteers for this research is not an easy task.

PSYCHOMETRY

Psychometry is a branch of magic which allows the caster to detect the magical and emotional residue present in objects and, if the practitioner is skilled enough, people. This allows the user to gain knowledge and insight into the past, present and future of the object or persons they come into contact with.

An ability more commonly possessed by ghosts, as a bloodhound can sniff trail withs amazing accuracy, spirits can access any objects that have been associated with us and playback any scenes that are trapped in the article. One could use the thoughts attached to an object to find the spirits who left their vibrations since each spirit has a unique vibrator identification.

A perceptive trait that is typically innate (although in some rare circumstances can be learned), it starts off with small objects like rings or necklaces. It can then expand to cars, to trees, then to whole places. One does not need physical contact after a while; simply directing your attention to the thing, person, or area is sufficient if someone has truly honed their skill.

Thoughts can pop into your head that aren't yours: visions, memories, feelings, places, sensations. It's a useful form of spiritual perception and a basic practice for beginners before they interact with spirits or other non-physical entities, because it builds on the skills of perception gained from practicing psychometry.

An important note about psychometry is that it works differently for different people. With enough practice, two people can feel the same sensations off a particular object, but at first they'll often see different things. One person might see places where the thing was used or worn, another might get the emotions or memories that the object absorbed, yet another might get a particular force that the object itself is associated with.

SEER

True seers are very rare in our world, there are many misconceptions about their abilities in the wizarding world - which a talented seer would probably know in advance. Seeing the future, even if it occurs in different ways and at different stages of life, has intensity changes that can be very debilitating for the user.

There are seers who predict and write prophecies that are stored in the Ministry of Magic; their identities are unknown to keep them safe. Still, there are many wizards and witches who try to make a living from their supposed or real abilities in schemes that are similar to a con-artist. The Daily Prophet reports each week more and more cases of someone being swindled by a supposed Seer.

Divination, or the art of psychic arts, is taught at Hogwarts and almost miraculously avoids being removed from the curriculum every year. Visions are often just assumptions, because to the best of our knowledge, the mind interprets what it sees based on its own conclusions — however, in history, many have been able to make accurate revelations, so the only thing that is certain about seers is that they are diverse and interpret everything diverse.

There are those among them who experience the future only through their dreams rather by intuition, while others look almost constantly at their third/inner eye: some go insane, while some profit off of their knowledge in everyday life.

WANDLESS MAGIC

Wandless magic is the performance of magic without the use of a wand. Such magic is often difficult to perform and can have unexpected results if not done properly. Usually witches and wizards accustomed to using wands can only reliably perform wandless magic if they possess extreme skill (and this requires years of practice). However, within regions of the wizarding world that historically did not use wands, wandless magic is considered the norm and using a wand is optional. What's true, however, is that the wand not only provides a focus, it's actually a magical artifact itself, aiding in the casting.

Wands are predominantly a European invention that helped wizards channel their magic, focus it, and make it easier to control. Other wizarding communities do not necessarily use wands. Native American and African wizards residing on rural areas of their respective countries are particularly good at wandless magic. The African school of Uagadou teaches actively its students wandless magic.

Wandless magic can undermine the International Statute of Secrecy however. When wizards exclusively use wands, it is much easier to detect and wandless magic has been a long debated subject within the walls of the Ministry. Elves and goblins are able to perform magic without wands. Goblins sometimes refer to wizards and witches as "wand bearers" and humans' failure to share wand knowledge with goblins is a source of ill-feeling between the two species.

Animagus form for Severus is a black panther (jaguar); it makes sense to me with the stealth; the coloring, the general dislike of being around things it doesn’t trust fully, the wild nature, but also the ability to make close bonds.

Altered patronus: I have two variants of this depending on the verse chosen. If he got to have actual back-up and true friendships during Hogwarts years then his patronus will have changed to a crow some time during his sixth year. If his story progressed similar to in the books but with the exception of him surviving Nagini’s attack then his patronus will have changed to a runespoor (three headed snake) during Harry’s fourth year or so. :) feel free to ask questions and stuff but click HERE for a very fucking rad summary of the types of wizards/witches who cast runespoors for their patronus.

Oliver wood was born in 1976 in Scotland and raised by his two mothers Matilda and Caroline. Both women were witches, however Mattie taught in a muggle primary school. Oliver was raised in between both worlds, attending muggle schools from 3yrs old to when he got his Hogwarts letter. Caroline was a seeker for the Ravenclaw Quidditch team back when she attended, her love for the sport helping shape Oliver’s interest in it as well.

When Oliver began attending Hogwarts he was sorted into the Gryffindor house, one of his most notable roommates being Percy Weasley. In his second year he joined the Gryffindor Quidditch team as their keeper. Two years later becoming captain of the team.

Oliver is a highly motivated and driven individual, always striving to be one of the best Quidditch players. This often makes him come as though he puts victory above everything and everyone else though it’s not truly the case. He cares deeply about everyone in his team and wants them to succeed just as much.

some notes on harry potter verse—

anakin is a member of the skywalker family, a powerful pureblood family that stretches back generations. however, his mother, shmi, is a squib, and the other members of his family are dicks so she has had to suffer from that all her life.

anakin does not have a biological father, as he was created by the dark wizard sheev palpatine, who was the current president of MACUSA and was going to use his position to rule wizarding america as an absolute dictator. shmi went to him in desperation when he said he would experiment on her to see if he could give her magic. instead he used her for all sorts of other weirdass experiments, including one where he impregnated her using magic alone. so technically in that way palpatine was his dad, but biologically he is not; if anakin took a DNA test it would just show his mom’s 50% DNA and the other half is a big unidentified ???????

he was also like, an opposite harry potter, there was a prophecy about him being the one who would lead palpatine to dominion over the united states. after learning this, sheev killed shmi so he could have baby anakin all to himself and raise him solely in dark magic to ensure that the prophecy would come true……joke’s on him, though, because the prophecy conveniently forgot to mention that anakin would eventually be his downfall.

ani didn’t go to ilvermorny. palpatine put him in a school for the dark arts, so basically like, an edgy hogwarts. don’t tell me those schools don’t exist, because they totally do. this school--the american chapter of the bogan institute, named for bogan, its founder and the first dark wizard and also the name of the dark side of the force in star wars canon--was literally evil hogwarts all the way down to the sorting system. there were four castes, one each based on the different paths to corruption that people might face in their lives:

massassi, or those guided by emotions--those who study dark magic because they want to fulfill an emotional need, such as unleashing their anger on the world. name is taken from the star wars sith language word for the warrior caste; accordingly, HP verse massassi are known to be the most violent.

zuguruk, or those guided by knowledge--those who study dark magic because of the truths it reveals. name is taken from the sith language word for the engineer caste; accordingly, HP verse zuguruk are known to be the most inventive and knowledgeable about the arcane arts.

kissai, or those guided by purpose--those who study dark magic as a means to a greater end. name is taken from the sith language word for the priest caste; accordingly, HP verse kissai are known to be the most idealistic.

siqsa, or those guided by power--those who study dark magic for its own sake and just like the rush of power that it gives them. name is sith for the word “demon”; accordingly, HP verse siqsai are often the most frightening and inhuman in their search for power.

anakin was stalled between massassi and kissai before finally choosing kissai, purpose. his purpose was as it was in star wars canon: to stop those he loved from dying.

anakin is the school’s most powerful student, a prodigy who excelled his peers not only in his raw magical skill but also in the anger and hatred he possessed--nobody could have imagined that later he would have turned good. though most students graduate at age 17, he managed to attain all the basics in half that time, graduating his basic classes midway through his third year there and moving on to the equivalent of university studies.

shit happens, i don’t know exactly what, but he is still young when he helps palpatine stage a hostile takeover and turn MACUSA into a dictatorship. he does not have his canon vader mask and suit (because let’s face it that feels so out of place in the HP world), but he does have a black mask and suit of some sort that hides his identity and gives him a different voice. he fights like an adult many times his age, especially with wandless and nonverbal magic. and since he’s also quite tall underneath the suit and mask, nobody has any idea that palpatine’s enforcer, a man who goes only by the name of “vader,” is actually just a 16-year-old boy.

when he is 20 years old he meets padmé amidala, a young witch of the same age whose father was a senator in MACUSA and who was a double agent working for the resistance against palpatine. through working with her as both anakin and vader he falls in love with her, feeling love for the first time in his life ever since he felt it for the mother he never got to know. she is revealed to be a double agent, and anakin is tasked with killing her, but instead, he lets her go--saving both her and their unborn children. he takes off his mask and confesses his love, and she is shocked that the man she loved was the man she had hated all along. she replies that she can never love him after everything he’s done, but she acknowledges that he must still have some good in him if he let her go--and she becomes determined to bring out his goodness.

palpatine finds out about this and he is INFURIATED. but anakin had chosen his path--he couldn’t put this into words, but love is a more powerful motivator than anger and hate. it is at this point that he turns away from palpatine’s so-called “american empire” for his lover and his children. he resolves that even if he can never have her back, and even if she never lets him see their kids, he won’t let them be hunted by palpatine for the rest of their lives. palpatine meets his end when he captures a pregnant padmé and has her brought in front of anakin to be publicly executed--he demands that anakin kill her in order to remove the weakness in his heart. however, the emperor miscalculated. instead of firing the killing curse at her, anakin pointed his wand upward and tried to avada kedavra palpatine instead. he ducks the curse, but is killed in the resulting duel.

anakin’s actions earn back her love, but the two of them are only reunited briefly before padmé dies in childbirth. the last thing she does is touch his cheek and whisper, “i knew…i knew there was still good in you…” before closing her eyes.

right now he is?? not doing great like………he was raised all his life to be evil, only recently came out of that, lost the love of his life……not to mention he was a single dad at 22 and he has no idea what to do with kids because he never had a childhood. he does somewhat better in any timeline where padmé lives, but overall he is just hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh about everything because he was basically a child soldier, people, everything weighs on him and everything hurts. i guess the good news here is that some people are sympathetic to him once they’ve realized that he’s basically been groomed all his life to be an agent of evil and he was literally a minor when he did a lot of the nasty shit that palpatine had him do--so he doesn’t lack for support.

after completing his rehabilitation he becomes an auror working for MACUSA. he also has a muggle robotics hobby on the side, he’s always been an inventor even while he was in school. he’s really fascinated with cybernetics and wants to make a wizarding equivalent.

animagus form: wolf—i picked this one for him because wolves are often associated with evil, yet they are also canines, which means that they can also be associated with good qualities such as loyalty, bravery and strength.

patronus: formerly a wolf, but changed to a swan after he fell in love with padmé.

hogwarts house (granted to him honorifically): gryffindor. most people expected slytherin due to his past, but when he was sorted it wasn’t even a contest, the hat yelled gryffindor even before it touched his head.

ilvermorny house (granted to him honorifically): wampus—the house of warriors.
