Lyra felt a chill come over her as he spoke, his voice creeping over her and surrounding her. She did not enjoy by any stretch of the imagination, the time that she spent in his company. 

“I had no choice.” She replied, her voice slightly hoarse with emotion despite her fairly stoic expression. There were no tears in her eyes, she was beyond the point of crying.
