Nobody yearns like Satoru yearns.

I mean this in several ways. Satoru will long for something in a steadfast fashion. Unwavering, undeterred, if he loves, he loves to the point of loss. And after that loss, he will continue to love some more.

When I say nobody yearns like he does, I also mean it to say, you would never know. He would hide his adoration behind playful jokes and bold smiles. He would pretend, perhaps embarrassed by the intensity of his affection, that his care for you was nothing more than platonic.

He would tease you and make funny quips, badgering you about your day or something he found equally interesting, and once he would finally get you going, have you sharing little bits and pieces of yourself, he would really, truly, listen.

I believe many people would see Satoru as a poor listener, he had a habit of speaking over someone and thinking his opinion was gospel, but when it came to those he cared for, he wanted nothing more than to sit with them, listen and watch them talk.

"What?!" You would eventually have to say, incredulous.

His eyes would widen, but a grin would fill his face, "Whaat~~?" He would question, alarm bells shooting up his spine at being caught. He had been lost staring at you and now you were uncomfortable.

"You're being creepy! How come you're not saying anything?" You would point at him dramatically and wait for a response.

Satoru would sit up, sarcasm rearing to go, "Ahhhhh I see~" He would start leaning in, "You just like to hear me talk, huh?" Poking at your cheek, his hand was swatted away. "I don't blame you, my voice is verrrrrrry attractive."

A highly disturbed expression crossed your face, "What are you- Is that what all your lady friends tell you?"

Finally leaning back, he would feel his heart race, using it as a faux show of offense, his palm would feel every frantic beat. But he would keep his cool.

"Don't feel bad for recognizing it too, I'm irresistible, I know. Look at you, all flustered because I was looking in your direction." He would hide the growing blush in his ears by haughtily huffing his nose to the sky.

"I'm not!- Satoru!- You- Ugh!" You would swat at him again and he would let his infinity down to feel you.

"No need to feel embarrassed, I'm used to it!" He would lean back, grinning.

Yes, for better or worse, nobody yearns quite the way he does.

I’m verrrrrrry tempted to write either a one shot or an AU where Ed ended up dying to the flesh and blood mascot Mollie (Macie), then Laura goes “missing” too. The fact one human already died outside where Rambley can see… would make his interactions less friendly. If anyone else ventured into the park, he would be actively trying to dissuade them from entering.

For example:

“Hey, you! You cannot come into park right now.”

“Why? It’s. Closed for repairs! Don’t you see all the boxes and tarps around the entrance?”

“Has anyone else been here? Noooooo—

FIRST GUEST IN APROXIMATELY; EIGHT DAYS, FIFTEEN HOURS, THIRTY SEVEN MINUTES AND FIFTY-SIX SECONDS.

…I forgot that counted automatically…”

(I know the whole eight year count when you first meet Rambley seems voluntarily told.)

“Don’t climb the gate! Get—Get out!”

When that doesn’t work: Rambley would take to locking doors and maybe even lock Lauren inside one of the shops if he can manage it.

The rumble that fell after Ed managed to get into the area near Rambley’s Railroad would force his best friend to climb over it. Depending on how unstable the area/roof is, I could see Laura falling into the backstage parts of the ride. Not the greatest time for either party.

“Why won’t you listen?! This isn’t a safe place. You don’t want to get lost—or trapped here.”

“Careful! One wrong fall… you could fall on your head…”

She’s not exactly impressed by the AI managing to follow her around on the screens nor the more accidentally ominous warnings. All Laura knows is that Ed disappeared a week ago and no one has seen him since. The smarter move would be to call the police, but her best friend has a few warnings from past trespassing so. Police might not put in the effort for a search.

Mollie’s animatronic—ha—parroting what Ed heard would make her even more suspicious! (“No not Rambley. He hurts Lloyd. He hurts Lloyd. He hurts—“) Laura would no doubt start getting more worried since the place is literally falling apart all around her. Did Ed accidentally fall somewhere and.. fall wrong? Did this AI version of Rambley lead him somewhere as unstable? The pictures from the photo kiosk at the end of the ride paint a really grim picture.

“Look! Look here!”

Ramble eventually shows her the blurry picture of Mascot Mollie running after the train.

“The mascots here are dangerous. The guest prior to you found that out the hard way… Please be careful if you see Mollie.”

Y’see he must feel awfully guilty for accidentally leading Ed to his death. The first guest in eight years, who freed him from the lobby, died due to the monstrous version of his best friend. It was semi-Rambley not telling the truth about the killer mascot situation that—made the other human meet his end. Mollie had fresh blood on her beak after not hearing from his new buddy. It. It wasn’t hard to connect the dots for him…

And that’s about where I lost steam for the AU idea. This could be an interesting narrative since Mollie’s chase scene is actually difficult.

Your post about will wanting mike physically made me wonder if many of the puritan bylers used to be milevens (statistics would suggest yes) who are still struggling to come to terms with what it means for a man to be gay. 

There seems to be a lack of understanding about how boys actually relate to each other in both platonic and romantic contexts. After all, lots of gay media that caters to young teen girls, like heartstopper, is cutesy if not totally sanitised, and if they are basing what byler could be off of what they thought mileven WAS, then it tracks - because mileven was never physical or sexual either. The reasons for this are all to do with mike’s sexuality, but perhaps many people think that mileven WAS real and no longer is, and therefore when mike and will get together it’ll just be another version of that heterosexual romance. 

Ofc this is wrong, not least because mike and el were so young when they were exploring each other even if it was entirely performed rather than genuinely exploratory. but even if mike was exploring a relationship with el for the first time as a 16/17 yr old, it would still manifest differently to one with will because they are both boys. Not to say that love itself or the butterflies you feel are different, but the way that two men will express their love + the fact that mike and will are friends, would obviously change their dynamic. 

Do you think that if mike and el had been shown to check each other out, that people would have a different opinion (not about mike being gay or bi, but about how his and will’s attraction will express itself?) Because you’re right - people do forget that will being gay means he wants to be intimate with men. Is that because they think his attraction is never physically expressed in the show? But then what exactly would that physical attraction look like? Has he not been ogling mike enough for you? Or painting his body in a very intricate ritual of dedication and love? Or is it because Will is just so gosh darn adorable, and they think that someone who has a baby face cannot experience sexual attraction? 

Intriguing premise on multiple fronts!

Re: the former Milevnn scenario - never considered that but at least for some folks in fandom? Maybe! That's an interesting idea, but I do kind of lean towards a lot of the 'puritan' ideas just being a product of today's internet/fandom culture, via this agenda from how gen z seems to have grown up entirely online. And you can't fully blame it on this generation! Those under that mindset didn't inflict it on themselves! (Same vein as "no one is born racist - you are taught to hate"). It's a reaction to a deeper conversation of social media and surveillance culture and this pervasive mindset of thought-crime, etc. I'm toeing the line between genZ/millennial but my fandom experience in the early years was a bit different, where there wasn't as strong of a backlash and negative reaction to sexuality and sex in regards to fandom (people were writing fic about high school age characters doing alllll sorts of stuff and, thinking back, getting a call-out about that content kinda seems unfathomable in retrospect). I genuinely feel it's mostly a culture clash in fandom spaces. But with kindness and re-education and conversation, I think we can either come to agreements and find common ground rather than fighting and call-outs and witch-hunts and all that negativity. I find it more helpful to ask the puritan-mind set folks "why do you feel this way? what about this is so upsetting to you? Have you never really examined your judgement and why it makes you upset?" Learning moments! Kindness and compassion goes a long way in fighting repression and bigotry, and I know that's a hard pill to swallow sometimes in the face of contentiousness.

Re: not understanding the teenage boy experience - another verrrrrrry big factor that I also think simultaneously plays into what's going on, even with those well-intentioned and supportive, just hesitant. It's just the honest truth. Without getting too far into gender politics et. al - yeah, unless you yourself are or were a teenage boy, especially a gay teenage boy - there's a lot of presumption and inference and while mileage does very much vary in personal experience, there are tenets that will factor into an accurate portrayal. Yes - not every teenager is going to have sex. Not every teenager is even interested in sex and many will grow into adults who aren't interested either and that's totally valid and fine. But I do not think that is the case for these specific characters, personally. It's a disservice to sanitize queer sexuality. To put it bluntly, if two teenage boys are dating/have feelings for each other - they're going to want to have sex. Are you kidding me? Teenagerdom? The horniest time of our lives??? Yall. It's going to be awkward and fumbling and exploratory and they won't fully know what they're doing, but these boys will want to experiment and get it on. That's nature, that's biology. It honestly cracks me up when I read some sfw byler fics with heavy make-out scenes and the next moment it's like 'oh we better stop before we get carried away' and I'm like, oh honey. That's not how dicks work. They're already hard and they both know it. They're sixteen. You get hard at a strong breeze sometimes. The love of your young little life has his hands up your shirt and his tongue in your mouth? Boner central. Sorry!!!

Re: a different portrayal of Mike and El - interesting as well. There are so many factors here to consider. Showing Mike and El in more 'intimate' scenarios I don't think really would have that big of a factor in regards to the anti-sex brigade in general. A big portion of the same people who spout off about 'they're minors! we don't need to see sex in media!' would say it whether it's mike and el or mike and will... but there's def a layer of homophobia inherent with mike and will in conjunction with that mindset, even by people who claim to like and support gay ships. The Will dilemma tho. I've been puzzling over the Will dilemma since I stepped into the Byler fandom. And why he, despite being literally "the gay character" - his sexuality is less explored in regard to the most baseline aspects of being gay. Is it infantilizing because he's our cute sweet little victim? Is it because he has yet to actually pursue his love interest in the narrative? I'm still working on pondering this myself!! Because it isn't at all how I viewed his situation or character. But, very interesting points...

Finally almost finished with p5v6. Currently on Detlinde's side story and oh my god. The realization that a Yurgenschmidt royal centuries ago was salty about not becoming Zent so he goes to Lanzenave and pretty much colonizes it just to become a ruler, plus all the Adalgisa stuff as a result is. Certainly something.

This one particular line, "The land was impoverished but able to support life, which had been good enough for his purposes." Plus the fact that the Lanzenave natives are brown skinned with different facial features than the Yurgenschmidt nobles. Interesting. Verrrrrrry interesting actually.

I enjoy getting to write about Daeron as a side character and I find him super interesting, but so far I've always mentally categorized him as too young/kid brother vibes to focus on. Of course, that could change, as inspiration is random and unpredictable. I'm intrigued to see how Daeron is characterized in HOTD!

It had been a wild ride. Still at the tournament, and pushing his luck after the first win against his twin by celebrating in form of the spicy strawberries, Emmet had one of his many close-calls, returning his ticket straight to terminal at the verrrry last second. Apparently, his allergy was also to blame for the verrrry interesting and addicting taste of strawberries: the itch and spice that burn down his mouth and throat.

After a series of texts where he had been made aware that his truth of spicy berries did not apply to everyone as one would assume, Akari had promised to deliver him something that was really spicy, following the suggestion of his friend and honorary sibling Rhi, one of many members of his new, Ultra Human family.

"I am Emmet! Welcome aboard, Akari!!! I was promised real spicy berries. These... peppers are going to be the real ones, right?" Hmm... They did not look as cool as strawberries, but...

"Do I have to do anything or can I just take a bite? Will you also try with me, or is this just a delivery?" Ghost peppers...Were they? They do not look anything like ghosts. Already a disappointment.

... Though... Now he reached to touch it, it felt... Like Chandelure's fire itself. Burning him by mere touch. Emmet squinted his eyes, and took a bite.

Tears welled up in his eyes as he had to grasp the narest surface to stand still, but-- "IT DOES TASTE LIKE STRAWBERRY--" The painful spiciness made him cough, and maybe these were a bit stronger than that! "It deserves the name ghost pepper! It's... It's verrrry fun. S-Should I wait it out to see if I live--or can I eat a dozen more right away? AKARI!!!!!" An edible strawberry for someone deadly allergic strawberries! "Thank you!!!! Thanks verrrrrrry much!!!! I love them!!!"

yeah, like you said, beyond villains are usually thematic successors to famous villains and/or reimaginings of obscure ones. or just marvel character knockoffs to go along with the inspiration they took from spider-man for the show. or all of the above! like their spellbinder's mysterio, inque is the venom symbiote, shriek has obvious aspects of shocker, blight's civilian identity and origin feel verrrrrrry norman osborn-inspired, and so on.

spellbinder's also one of those c-list villain names and concepts that's kept getting bounced to different people since the silver age. there've been new, unrelated spellbinders since then too.

that's not even all of them.

but honestly, phosphorus's influence on blight makes his characterization in creature commandos soooo exciting to me. like he's the basis for a super famous villain, and the 70s story arc he first appeared in is really good, but the comics haven't really done anything interesting (or, well, much of anything at all) with him since. this put so much new life into the guy and i really hope that influence bleeds back into the books. pretty sure he never got any kind of post-crisis origin story anyway!
