This is a supplementary post to continue off of this larger TWST food culture compilation post (as that one is getting super long as is). Here, I'll cover all the new food-related lore dropped about the Shaftlands and specifically about Fairest City, which features in the Tapis Rouge event.

Shaftlands

Macarons are one of the Shaftlands' signature sweets. Cream and raspberry, as well as lychee, are the popular flavors at the moment.

Macarons can be frozen so recipients can eat them fresh.

There are people who collect the stylish boxes that macarons come in.

According to Vil, mixing flavored syrups with carbonated liquids is common in the Shaftlands.

Stewed foods are the Shaftlands' specialty. This is because there are many stories about the Fairest Queen preparing many foods in a pot.

Apples are the most popular fruit in the Shaftlands. They are used for drinks, desserts, jams, and even savory meal items.

Fairest City

There are few food stands in Fairest City. This is because eating on the streets is seen as bad manners.

There is a strong cafe culture.

Fairest City is famous for its cuisine and sweets. Their sweets in particular are well developed due to the city's cafe culture.

Sweets with a pleasant appearance are popular. The most famous of patisseries make sweets which are like pieces of art.

Some sweets featured in famous patisseries include tarts, chocolate, mousse, macarons, brioche, roll cakes, financiers, mille-feuilles, and cakes shaped like apples with apple sauce inside, caramel apples, etc.

A specialty of Fairest City is "cream puff rings", which are cream puffs in ring shapes. They are meant to resemble wheels on rail cars, since Fairest City is located near mines. It is said that the cream puff rings (which is filled with a thick, high-calorie cream) were originally given to hard-working miners to restore their energy.

Luxury stores may offer amenities in addition to providing their services or helping customers shop. For example, staff may offer VIP clients drinks or chocolates.

Fairest City’s hotels have swanky restaurants built into them for guests to dine in. The fanciest of eating establishments are five star restaurants that have full sets of cutlery and napkins which you unfold and place in your lap.

Fancy dining establishments offer food à la carte (ordered by the plate) and prix fixe style (picking your courses from a predetermined selection).

There is a drink called “Diabolo Menthe” served in Fairest City. It is a spearmint flavored syrup mixed with a slightly carbonated liquid. Very refreshing! (This is most likely a reference to the potion that the Evil Queen drinks to transform into an old woman.)

Eric Venue, Vil’s famous movie star father, uses a five-star restaurant to cater buffets for his movie shoots for every 6 hours of work. They also have snacks and drinks on demand (“craft services”), which includes coffee, milk, tea, juice, chocolate, fruits, and pancakes and waffles. Lots of light foods!

Many dishes at high-class eateries are French. For example, hors d’oeuvres might include escargot (snails), foie gras de canard (duck foie gras), and terrine a la campagne (country-style terrine). Courses are also named in French (viande and poisson courses, etc.).

Some dishes served include boeuf bourguignon (a beef and red wine stew) filet mignon de porc aux pruneaux (a pork filet with dried plum; it is made with pig heart, bouillon, and sauce), and flounder poêlé (flounder with an herb sauce). The beef bourguignon is a favorite dish in the five-star hotel restaurant that caters for Eric Venue.

Pork, especially the heart, is prized meat in Fairest City. Many of its dishes are pork-based. There is a story about how the Fairest Queen needed a heart for one of her potions and had her huntsman hunt as a tribute to her; the filet mignon de porc aux pruneaux dish was born from this legend.

The restaurant that caters for Eric Venue has a specialty dessert called tart fine pomme. It is a thin tart with slices apples. The restaurant uses the highest quality of apples (from Harveston), which are grown in a special soil, for their dishes and drinks.

Everything with Enzo was like an ideal for you, a secret dream. In the acting industry, there are three types of people, fans. The ones that care(sometimes too much), the ones that don’t, and the ones that don’t really involve themselves in anything. The media wasn’t sure if they wanted you and Enzo to be together, as there had been things about you in the media. Or had big enemies.

But come on, Enzo’s heard of them all and the man did not care. Enzo knew that one thing was the media and the other was real life. He would read that you were crazy, but you were the opposite of everything he would see.

Then there was when fans from both sides wanted the two of you to be together. Having a big reputation came with its outlay. Being known everywhere you would step into, and having people know everything about your business. Figured you out in everything. But also being the it girl and guy of the era. You’ve been in the industry a little longer than Enzo, so everyone knew who you were. Had been in many hit films. While Enzo had just become the talk of the media, being the man every girl was obsessed with.

So of course when you and Enzo got to the red carpet, you both became the big conversation of everyone around that venue. The cameras that flashed, and interviewers trying to get your attention, were a hell of a show.

“No estabas mintiendo cuando dijiste que toda la atención iba a estar en nosotros.” Enzo moved his lips but didn’t withdraw his eyes from the lenses. Hands were set on your hip giving gentle squeezes.

“Te dije.” You did the same thing as him on keeping your sight focused on the cameras.

Pose after pose and you finally had decided to move on to an interview, where you knew, questions about the two of you were about to be asked.

“¡T/N! ¡Enzo! Que gusto verlos.” The interviewer welcomed.

The microphone was set between the two for the both of you to gab into. “¡Hola!”

The first thing her eyes caught a glimpse of was the interlocking hands of you and Enzo. “Veo que vienen juntos.”

“Sí, decidimos que— que ya era tiempo de revelar nuestra relación.” Your eyes glanced at Enzo who nodded at you with a smile.

“¡Ay, son pareja! ¡Que lindo!” She dragged the last syllable on her tongue. “¿Cuánto llevan?”

You chose to leave this question to Enzo. “Cuatro meses.”

The look of surprise fell upon her face. “Que gusto por ustedes. ¡Pero que guapos se ven los dos! T/N te ves hermosa con ese vestido.” She gestures for the camera to do a run of your dress.

You had a red dress that had a tad of puffiness on it, leaving it free to move every time you walked, and the sleeves fell over your shoulders in a princess style. “Ay, gracias.”

“Y Enzo, guapísimo con este traje.” The interviewer turned towards Enzo, who only looked down at his suit.

“Muchas gracias.” He does his signature move, by placing his hand on his chest.

The interviewer continued asking a couple of questions about each of your careers, but you knew the relationship ones were coming momentarily or later. Have to leave the fairest for last, No?

“¿Y ustedes como se sienten a qué pronto van a ser la boca de todo mundo?” Bingo. There was the question.

You sighed, straining to find your words. “Pues, un poco nerviosos no lo vamos a negar. Pero ya queríamos dejar de escondernos. Y decidimos que tampoco nos va a importar lo que diga la gente.” You gave her a nod that she reflected.

You and Enzo had your ups and downs through the relationship, but you always managed to rise and stay in the middle where nothing could affect you and keep it leveled. Always being the end game that you were.

“Pues muchas felicidades a los dos y estoy muy contenta por ustedes. Pásenla bien.” She lets the both of you walk away into the other millions of people around.

“Eso estuvo mejor de lo que esperé.” Enzo chuckles, feeling a sort of solace. “Pero es solo el comienzo.”

And he was right. This was just the beginning of a rollercoaster full of emotions. With both of you being the talk of the industry, and having two of the most successful actors together, it was something monumental. If it was already making an impact you didn’t even want to know how much heftier it could get.

⚠️ Disclaimer: I am not saying these placements are inherently borderline or bipolar. But they may be more prone to borderline/bipolar behaviors. I want to clarify that I am not demonizing, diagnosing, or generalizing mental health disorders. Astrology & psychology can intertwine with each other. You can use astrology for deeper introspection & pairing both psychology + astrology together can help with healing. But I am simply observing my understanding of specific psychological disorders & how they connect to astrology via shadow work. But you can use astrology to predict certain mental illnesses. But it’s still a prediction so it may resonate or it may not.

Leo Sun/Moon/Mars/Venus/Saturn: They feel things intensely. They are the sun after all. Their emotions burn through them which can be painful for them especially if they don’t know how to control their fiery, & passionate side. They may be prone to a more extremist mindset. It’s all or nothing for them essentially. But these behaviors may intensify especially if negatively aspected.

Libra Stellium: Has a strong desire for equilibrium they may even stress themselves out trying to get to their perceived peaceful state. They are constantly perceiving multiple perspectives trying to choose the fairest one. This can apply to their emotions as well. If they don’t choose they can be self-destructive in their process of coming to their conclusions.

Aquarius Sun: They can be emotionally suppressive & chaotic at the same time especially if negatively aspected. They don’t like to share their emotions & may even ignore them but that usually tends to backfire on them. When pushed to that point everything they have been suppressing comes spilling out. Venus with the Apple

This sculpture captures the moment Venus received the golden apple from the mortal King Paris, which crowned her “the fairest goddess” of them all. Eris, the god of strife, created this golden apple and inscribed it with the pronouncement “the fairest goddess.” During a party on Mount Olympus, Eris asked the gods to vote on who should receive the apple. None of them could decide, so the gods asked King Paris to choose between Juno, Minerva and Venus herself. Paris was head over heels for Venus and immediately gave her the golden apple. In this scene, we can see Venus taking the apple, her hands raising the fruit towards her face to get a closer look. Her opposite arm reaches back to grab her clothes to cover her naked form.

Her expression is a curious one. You would imagine that being named the fairest god would bring someone joy, but her appearance is reasonably demure. There is just the slightest hint of a grin beginning to form on the corners of her mouth. This expressive choice is a crucial characteristic of Thorvaldsen’s work. He can perfectly capture in marble even the briefest moment or fleeting glance. Venus wants to appear polite in front of the other women who have been scorned by Paris but allows herself this minature little celebration.

Unlike his Greek counterpart of Ares, who was commonly portrayed as boorish and savage, Mars was greatly revered as both the symbol and defender of Rome, and used warfare as a means to attain peace, rather than out of a desire for destruction. Even the more questionable elements of Mars' character—namely, his relationship with Rhea Silvia and his affair with Venus—are generally painted in a positive light, as it is through Mars that Rhea Silvia gave birth to Rome's founder Romulus and his brother Remus, and he is artistically depicted with Venus as being in a happy, tranquil state.

Marth reflects the prevalent depictions of Mars well. His foremost goal is to bring peace to his homeland of Altea and her people, much like Mars to Rome. But he also isn't someone hungry for battle; Marth is happy to forgo combat when able, but is rarely given the option.

Though of dubious canonicity, the surname of the Altean royal family found in the Mystery of the Emblem OVA series ties into Marth's namesake. Lowell (JP: ローウェル; rōmaji: rōweru) is a English surname meaning "wolf". In Roman culture, the wolf was one of the most sacred symbols of Mars, right behind the woodpecker.

Elice (JP: エリス;  rōmaji: erisu) is the princess of Altea and older sister of Marth. The name Elice is a variant of Elise, which in turn is a diminutive form of Elizabeth, a name carried by many queens and princesses. However, considering her brother's name, her name is most likely a corruption of the Greek goddess of strife, Eris. According to Homer, Eris was "sister and comrade" to Ares; though this phase was likely more symbolic of the two gods' relation to conflict, it fed the conception Ares and Eris (and their Roman counterparts Mars and Discordia) were siblings.

Eris is best known for her role in inadvertently starting the Trojan War. After not being invited to the wedding of Peleus and Thetis, parents of the hero Achilles, she decided to cause trouble amongst the goddesses that were. She cast into the event a golden apple, with the words "for the fairest" written on it. This brought about a disturbance between Hera, Athena, and Aphrodite. It was Zeus who selected the Trojan hero Paris as the judge of their beauty. Though each goddess had proposed tempting bribes to the man, it was Aphrodite's bargain that took Paris: the most beautiful woman on earth, Helen, queen of Sparta and wife of Menelaus. However, when the King of Sparta took a woman of such beauty for a wife, it was agreed by all of the kingdoms of Greece to go to war against any who spirit away Helen. As such, Troy's fate was sealed the moment made his deal with the goddess of love.

It seems that allusion to Eris is not to directly connect the princess of Altea to the character of the goddess, but rather to the consequences of her Apple of Discord. Elice remains in the kingdom for its fall—an inevitable fall based on the tensions between Altea and Gra. One could interpret Altea as being a stand-in for Troy. Elice could then simultaneously represent Helen's abduction, with both women serving as motivation for their family to fight. That is, at least, a favorable interpretation; Elice's name may have simply been chosen because the main character is named after Mars and one man said that Eris was his Greek equivalent's sister.

I don't know if you had talk about this but-

Fun fact: despite Yana(if i remember correctly, it's Yana who confirm it) say that the event is like alternate universe of the main story, some of the event did follow through some canon settings for events(?) Only(i also still having doubt.

I know the tapis rouge event already done a few weeks ago if not months ago, but i just found it when i watch it again.

Azul and Grim is the only one surprised by the reveal of Eric and Vil being father and son because Ace and Jamil was there when Vil reveal it in Vil's Scary Dress Vignettes(i know it's vignettes, but it'stechnically in the universe if said event so i add it), and the one who appear in that Vig was Ace, Ruggie, Floyd, Jamil, him and Rook, Ortho and Lastly Silver. In that Vig, Vil did reveal his father kinda subtle but at the same time enough to make people theorizing, which shown by Ace and Ortho.

Twst usually make dialog box that shows that everyone is surprised together or atleast shown that they also surprised, but in tapis only Azul was shown openly surprised, while Grim and Yuu(since we didn't get any dialog box) only show surprised expression, and Jamil and Ace didn't show any surprised and only surprised when the person himself arrived in person.

I think it's funny that the events may or may not follow some canon settings or lore that we may need to think of, especially if they had subtle references of previous event. What do you think about this?

I went back to confirm, and your description is correct! In Vil's Scary Dress vignettes, Ace, Ruggie, Floyd, Jamil, Rook, Ortho, and Silver are in Pomefiore as Vil gives them lessons on how to do their makeup to match each of their dorms' Halloween costumes. (You'll notice that Ace and Jamil, two boys who would later visit Fairest City in Tapis Rouge, are present. Azul and Grim, meanwhile, are not present for Vil's makeup lessons.) It is in these vignettes (in the third one) that Vil reveals his father is Eric Venue:

In 3-7 of Tapis Rouge, we actually get to meet Eric Venue face-to-face. It is here that Grim and Azul (who were not previously privy to this information in Vil's Scary Dress vignettes) express shock that Vil and Eric are related.

There is no follow-up dialogue from either Ace or Jamil (who were already presented with this information in Vil's Scary Dress vignettes) expressing the same surprise. Their shock moreso comes from reacting to Eric's impressive accomplishments and/or the fact that they're able to meet such a famous person The characters then get into a conversation about why Vil and Eric don't disclose their relation publicly. Then they move into formal introductions before finally settling in for food.

While it’s true that most (if not all) vignettes and events are considered AUs, I think it’s more of a convenience so that the writers don’t need to worry about continuity or timeline issues when comparing vignettes/events to the main story or even to each other.

How I see it is that vignettes and events are a little more free to have continuity or to reference each other (ie other vignettes and events, especially within the same “set”/“series”) and the main story (lest we forget instances like Fairy Gala: If), than the main story can have continuity with or reference vignettes and events. This is likely because if all events and vignettes are AUs anyway, then the devs can casually pick and choose which details to acknowledge (like Ortho gaining free will post-book 6) and which to ignore. The few times when vignettes/events are mentioned in the main story, they are left vague enough so as to not allude to specific event stories such as the Culinary Crucible/Masterchef as a course or NRC’s charitable Halloween activities being mentioned briefly. There are no details which would imply certain ingredients/cooking partners (which would confirm Culinary Crucible/Masterchef events as “canon”) or Magicam Monsters, the Spectral Realm party, NBC, or Playful Land were experienced (which would confirm the Halloween events as “canon”).

I have to wonder if the shock/non-shock at the Eric Venue-Vil relation was intentional or just coincidence 🤔 cuz that’s one hell of a long callback to make when I thought the whole point of delineating events and vignettes as AUs was to relieve the writers of the stress of keeping up continuity. This just seems like more trouble than it’s worth… but I guess we’ll never really know for sure, but either way I still appreciate this subtle detail.

Vil Info Compilation part 1: Family and Potions

In his birthday vignette Vil shares that his father sent him a card and cosmetics as a gift, congratulating him on being appointed brand ambassador for the Ténèbres shoe label despite how Vil hadn’t yet told him about the offer.

“No matter how busy he is, he always finds the time to keep track of my goings-on. Always the doting father, that one.”

(Vil became the Ténèbres brand ambassador thanks to Jade, who was able to acquire a pair of their shoes for him when Vil was unable to get ahold of them for himself. Vil explains that he wore the shoes from Jade at a party and was noticed by their designer, who offered him the brand ambassador role.)

Vil says that his father sends him postcards from all over the world on his birthday, but when he was a child his father would take him along on all his international travels. Vil describes his experiences interacting with people from all over the world from a young age as a priceless treasure that his father gifted to him.

Vil’s experience abroad is referenced by the many English words that he introduces into casual conversation, such as “unconscious bias”, “elementary school”, “One, two”, “stop”, “inner muscle”, “my routine”, boys group” and referring to his father as the English word “Dad”.

During Halloween we learn that Vil’s father is “ridiculously famous” actor Eric Venue (stage name).

Vil says that his father would read tales of the Fairest Queen to him when he was too young to read for himself, and that he has fond memories of enjoying Beanfest with his father between movie shoots.

In his first birthday vignette Vil says that he is “an expert at formulating chemicals—particularly poisonous ones”, and explains that “the Pomefiore most adept at mixing potions gets to serve as dorm leader. Ergo, I’m the best.”

He explains that he studied potionology even before enrolling in NRC as commercial skincare products were not living up to his expectations. In his second birthday vignette we learn that Vil was selected for housewarden of Pomefiore by the previous Housewarden, insinuating that it is the Housewarden who decides who the most adept potion mixer in the dorm is. 

Vil is enrolled in the elective “poison refining” with Cater and Lilia and says that he has been formatting his own cosmetics “for years”. He says that while he gets occasional offers to commercialize his creations he refuses them all, as he intends to launch his own brand in the future.

Vil’s skincare products are mentioned in Book 5 as well, with Vil gifting them to every member of the VDC team. Epel says, “HE makes other things, too: sunblock, setting powder, lip balm, hand cream…”

Even Azul describes Vil as “an expert in potionology” and struggles to craft a moisturizer that can improve upon the results of Vil’s own special toner.

In a vignette Rook describes a special hair oil that Vil has created, offering it to Ruggie in exchange for information about Leona’s weakness.

In a voice line we learn that Vil also crafts his own perfume.

When the sea nymph Thetis married Peleus, hero of Thessaly, all the gods were invited but one—Eris, goddess of discord. Annoyed at this slight, she appeared anyway, wreaking havoc by tossing into the crowd an apple inscribed "To the fairest one." Juno/Hera, Venus/Aphrodite, and Minerva/Athena would scramble for the prize and agreed to the Judgement of Paris, setting in motion the events that led to the Trojan War because Venus bribed Paris with the most beautiful mortal woman in the world, Helen of Sparta!
