I did another statuee. This time it's Venus Callipyge, a Roman recreation of the Greek original
Apparently the name, Venus of the Beautiful Buttocks, is falsely attributed, but it does probably depict Venus (or Aphrodite in the original)
Oh also when it resurfaced in the 1500s it was headless, and the head was reconstructed. I wonder how many ancient works of art were reconstructed to the same degree as that famously terrible Jesus painting restoration and have just been quietly forgotten or destroyed out of embarrassment, the restoration artist banished from the kingdom

It's a coincidence.
GG posted two photos that are connected to nicknames he's given DD in the past. Piggy (more on that here) and Venus (more on that here). Of course, it's just a coincidence!
The statue is the Venus Callipyge, or "Venus of the Beautiful Buttocks" (the statue is baring her buttocks and looking back to admire them), which is just the sort of thing GG would get a huge kick out of and want to associate with DD. 😅

What do you think the Ineffables think of the word 'callipygian' (https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/callipygian), and which of them would you (and/or they) say it best describes?
Well, g'evenin', @jotun-philosopher! 😂 I guess we're having peaches tonight for a snack for absolutely no particular related reason.
I love this word & I'm sure Crowley & Aziraphale would, too. The fact that it's pronounced "kal-ah-pigeon" also lends itself well to plenty of dirty puns in their bird-themed world. Feels like it could very much fit in the same tone of the recurring ducks thing. I feel sure that Anthony J. "it'd be a real feather in your wing" Crowley, in particular, could not resist the lure of the word callipygian.
[Unrelated to the ooh-la-la-ness of your ask but while we're talking about pigeons/doves... one does have to get in all pigeon-related stuff when the topic comes up as how often does it ever, really? 😂... Jemimah's name means "dove". Crowley and Aziraphale have saved a dove in each season so far. 🕊️ Doves = peace = the opposite of war. I wonder what that'll look like in S3?] But back to callipygian...
Since Aziraphale uses doves (pigeons) in his magic shows sometimes, seems likely that Crowley has before looked at his angel's caboose in those magician's trousers and amused himself by thinking Aziraphale was looking especially callipygous. Hopefully, he told him so.
The word being tied to The Aphrodite Kallipygos/The Callipygian Venus sculpture is something they would like. Aphrodite, the goddess of love and the origin of aphrodisiac, almost always on seen on oyster shells in ancient paintings... yeah, that is meaningless to these two. 😉
The Erotes-- Aphrodite's retinue of winged gods of love and sex-- were known in Roman culture as Cupids. The Cupid statue in the bookshop shooting its arrow of love to the east-- to the Angel of the Eastern Gate's desk. 💘 Dryly self-aware that he basically really is a Cupid and loving every minute of it, this one is:
Speaking of sculptures who got that callipygian, I headcanon that Aziraphale is the one who influenced Cardinal Borghese into commissioning Bernini to sculpt the ancient Roman bed for The Sleeping Hermaphroditus. For, ya know... reasons. 💘
I don't think it will be a wildly controversial stance to take if I say that they both think each another got that bootylicious, ancient Greek cake. I believe I've heard of this land called AO3 where about 86% of it is about such things. In an art history context-- this sentence is sounding way too cerebral for the fact that we're talking about nice asses right now 😂-- the word refers to the particular kind of rear end seen in these types of sculptures but it overall really just does mean a pleasing rump and they both find each other's appealing. I likely do not need to show my math but I am prepared to support this thesis with empirical data collected in the wild:
We have the two, different scenes of Aziraphale shamelessly checking out Crowley's ass as he's leaning into The Bentley (1941/in the theatre alley & 2023/putting the plants in the car)-- and that serpent bending so unnecessarily both times that it's very obvious he's aware and putting on a show. It's not just Aziraphale wanting that sinewy behind, though...
One bit of the Crowley-penned Aziraphale entry in Demon's Guide to Angelic Beings-- aka the spicy etymological love letters-- involves Crowley describing Aziraphale as a ship to mmm over the angel's broadness/the thiiiiiighs/that badonkadonk.... It involves using the word found in its nautical meaning, which is a ship that is, by definition, both, ahem, well-equipped (well, now!)... and fully stocked.
The Serpent's anaconda don't. want. none. unless *breaks up laughing*

15 days of deity devotion - day 5, venus
day 5: names and epithets
venus was often addressed as these epithets, but also seen as a mother figure to rome. lately i've personally felt called to address her as "mother" or "mama venus," and i feel connected to her being a mother figure to me.
i'm positive this list is not comprehensive.
Alma: mother/”Mother Venus”
Anadyomene: of the sea (related to her origin)
Armata: armed
Aurea: golden
Barbata: bearded
Caelestis: of the heavens/heavenly
Callipyge: of the beautiful buttocks (one of my favorite epithets)
Calva: the bald one, also relating to “mock or annoy," in the way one does while flirting (related to sacrificing your hair to Venus; prayers for hair growth via cutting it off)
Cloacina: the purifier
Erycina: of Eryx
Euploia: of the fair voyage
Felix: bringer of good fortune
Felix et Roma Aeterna: favorable Venus and eternal Rome
Genetrix: the mother
Libertina: the freed woman
Murcia: of myrtle
Obsequens: indulgent
Physia: universal force that informs the physical world
Pontia: of the sea (related to safe voyages)
Urania: heavenly
Verticordia: changer of hearts, related to her festival Veneralia
Victrix: bringer of (military) victory

₊。˚⋆˙ Venus Callipyge ˙⋆˚。₊
Once again, WHB has compelled me to do ~research~ for my fanfics. First Lucifer and tear-catchers, now Mammon and historical art…what will be next?? T0T
Notes:: spice, pygophilia, does this count as quasi-exhibitionism??
If Mammon were to name humanity’s greatest creation, it would be the Venus Callipyge.
…Yes, it is a subjective answer but not a shocking one. One look at the ancient statue is all it takes for you to understand Mammon’s bias—the pure marble, the sensual pose, the shapely derriere which commands full attention. It is his definition of perfection.
Your mistake takes the form of a special message. At first, your lover thinks you sent him one of your usual selfies. There are a few nudes, some lingerie shots…and an imitation of the Venus Callipyge. The dress and hairstyle are more modern but the pose is the same, from your confident gaze to your bare lower half. The photo is instantly saved, followed by an appreciative reply~
Unfortunately, it doesn’t end there. During your next visit to Tartaros, Mammon proudly shows you his newest treasure aaaaaand it’s a gold statue based on your photo. With zero cover-ups, unless you count real pieces of jewelry draped over its body. The model’s identity is a no-brainer.
At the very least, you successfully convince Mammon to not display the statue in his palace. If his lover isn’t comfortable with his creation, then it will be kept for his eyes only. Now, have you heard of the Reclining Naiad?
♡
Still hornii?? Read my other WHB fics =w=
Grrrr I don’t even like this character but this idea was too funny not to write. Fortunately, two of my friends are Mammon simps and their reactions were worth it >:3

Paris is a good soul. It accepts everything royally; it is lenient in the realm of Venus; its Callipyge is Hottentot; as long as it laughs, it pardons.
