A GENERATIONAL HEADSTAND My grandpa stood on his head till he was 86 years old. He was born in 1911. Challenge accepted grandpa! 💪 1 day, I will be like you. Grandma was all about women's strength. She was born in 1920. I never understood why she was so happy I got my driver's license, because that was another tiny check off of my list. But now I understand. I was blessed with a mother and father who never tried to tell me I wasn't good enough. To them, I was always good enough for everything. They gave me so much strength to grow mentally, physically, and spiritually healthy. 🥰 Cheers to the millennial generation. In Alaska, we never had the opportunity to have so many sailing neighbors. On anchor, our neighbors were always the wildlife around us. I love being on anchor and watching other people. What homeowners never say, "Oh, I just woke up. As I was floating in the water and drinking my coffee, I watched my neighbor climb up his mast and fix something. It is up close and personal, but far enough away. Working on a custom solar mount, and upgrading our electrical system to have a floating home with more creature comforts. After being offgrid for 5 years, we know more of what we want and how to build it ourselves. Solar and battery technology has gotten exponentially better. #oldiebutgoodie 5 years ago, we bought a sailboat in #Alaska and called it our home as we worked to pay off all of our debt and start an adventure film company. We were completely stoked as we both combined our dreams to make them a reality. Our boat had no heat or refrigerator away from the docks. We basically camped all summer for 3 days a week. Our spirits were completely stoked on life because we weren't stuck in an apartment watching our souls sink into oblivion. We felt completely free. Finally being able to only work 40 hours per week, I felt like I had retired at the age of 27. I can still feel our excitement resonating through our bones when I look at this picture. We are currently working on a lot of boat projects right now. Do we like projects? No. But now being in our 30s, we are enjoying the learning process of being able to create our own creature comforts. More than anything, we just want to be swimming, surfing, and flying with the whales and dolphins of the ocean while we create films to inspire you to find your adventure. Yakutat, AK is just another tease. Alaska likes to remind me of its charm. Celebrating a snow storm in a rainforest, surrounded by ice, on the beach, next to the ocean. There is so much power and boldness here! Happy 2-22-2020! .............................. Venturelives started with Rob and I sailing Alaska's Inside Passage. Before that, it was my page for Hiking the Pacific Crest Trail for Multiple Sclerosis. Cheers to the people who are still following me from then! You rock! You know how my first super quirky and raw PCT videos were. Haha! But hey! Some even got used on the Morning Show to promote #wild by Cheryl Strayed! After hiking 1300 miles of the Pacific Crest Trail, I was ready to make the leap to Alaska to live on a sailboat and learn how to sail as I worked and paid off my student debt. Before I hiked the PCT, Rob and I had talked about this grand adventure of sailing in Alaska. Adventure is what brought us together. So we both decided to leap on a sailboat, and create stories for others to enjoy. Now our journey is going to take us even closer to what we loved most about Venture Lives and our moto, "venture lives in all of us". I've made it a goal to start writing more, and creating more short films along side it. To build up our website and have a platform for all our creative juices.
