Eddie: Uh, why are you beeping?

Venom: Oh, that's just my partner...

Venom: Oh no, I've gotta go. Flash needs me!

Eddie: Flash?!

Venom: Eddie, he's in the middle of a very important mission--I can't say, it's classified, but he'll die if I don't. Thanks for the rescue... really. All of you. [To Cletus] Uh, sorry again about the whole uh.. eating your head thing. You understand I was very hungry and needed a big brain, so...

Cletus: ...I'll take that as compliment.

Venom: You're not such a bad guy, thank you for taking care of him. [To Eddie] I'm so sorry, but, I-I gotta go.

Eddie: V, don't...

Venom [pained]: Eddie... I... goodbye.

Eddie: V, no!

[*Venom seaps into a pigeon and flies away. *]

Eddie: Who the fuck is Flash?!

[Later, Eddie stewing furiously while staring down at the veterans parade through town featuring Flash Eugene Thompson--the man of the hour ]

Cletus: ...Jealousy does not become you.

Eddie: I'm not jealous!

Cletus: Eddie, I know a murderous glare when I see one.

Eddie: Are you going to tell me to let him go? He's wearing my husband likes he's just a... a fucking Kevlar jacket.

Cletus: Oh hell no, we just gotta figure out how you're gonna win him back.

Eddie: I don't want to kill Flash.

Cletus: Hey, I wasn't suggesting that.

Eddie: You? Not suggesting murder? That's a first.

Cletus: I didn't need to, you're face was suggesting that just fine without my help.

Eddie: [*Flips him off*]

Frances & Carnage: [*cackling*]

Cletus: Actually I was going to suggest poetry... 

Eddie: [snorts] Yeah, right. When he has Mr. Perfect War Hero with the stupid perfect hair and the winning smile... How the hell am I supposed to complete with that--

Frances: Maybe you need to woo both of them?

[*All turn to look at her*]

Frances: Just a thought.

Cletus: You know... this is made all the harder because they're hunting us anew for trying to rescue him, right?

Eddie: Fuck!  [*kicks the railing*]

Carnage: Oh... they saw us.

Cletus: Aw, shit! [whining] I just got this shirt. I like this shirt.

Frances: And it looks lovely, darling. I know, it would clash horribly with bloodstains, but needs must.

Cletus: [*nods solemnly*]

Eddie: Seriously, no murder on the agenda?

Cletus: ...I actually was looking forward to a quiet night out for once.

Carnage: They're waving at us.

Eddie: They shooting at us?

Carnage: No, just... waving.

Frances: Think that's a good sign?

Cletus: No, I think... they must have known we were here the entire time.

Eddie: They haven't attacked us yet... Seeing what we would do?

Cletus: What do you want to do, Eddie?

Eddie: As much as I hate it... I guess it's up to Venom now, isn't it? Him and this Flash dude.

Carnage: Come on, let's get out of here before they kill you.

Eddie: ...what's the point?

Frances: Eddie... it would be awfully convenient for them if you let them kill you. Wouldn't it?

Cletus: Yeah, and we'd miss you, okay? Come on.

I haven't smiled the same way since 25 October...

Why does no story, with this type of love, end well? I thought this was going to be the exception...

𝗩𝗲𝗻𝗼𝗺 just wanted to be the Lethal Protector with 𝗘𝗱𝗱𝗶𝗲, and be happy with him living on this planet 🥺

Now I can no longer see them or remember them together except with tears, because it always comes to mind how it ended, with the damn song from 𝑽𝒆𝒏𝒐𝒎: 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑳𝒂𝒔𝒕 𝑫𝒂𝒏𝒄𝒆 😞

I don't understand why they did this...

I just ask 𝗧𝗼𝗺 to renew, come back and continue this. I trust him, I always have 💓

I can’t stop thinking about the Venom franchise so here’s more of my thoughts. Specifically on how Eddie looks and how it’s changed over the course of three movies (hint: it’s not that drastic)

So in the first movie (2018) Eddie wears pretty much the same grey hoodie and sweats for the entire movie. It’s just what he wears. He sweats through the first hoodie (or well he gets soaked when Venom drags him through the ocean but he also sweats a lot. This man has issues) and when I first watched it I honestly was waiting for when he’d take off his shirt right? Like every movie with a man in it. But no. That never happened. He just stayed looking, well, rather pathetic. He’s gross and he knows it. He’s a sad little man and I adore that for him.

Then the second movie rolls around (2021) and he still looks horrendous. But better. He’s no longer wearing that gross grey hoodie but he’s still no better. His life is more put together and he has an alien husband but other than that he’s not changed much and that’s awesome. Honestly I love the pathetic look they have going for him, I feel if it turned into some thirst trap movie it wouldn’t have done as well because while objectively Tom Hardy is hot, Eddie isn’t. (Well he is but not really at the same time) He’s a loser. We know this. Venom knows this. Anne knows this. He just some sad guy with an alien and some chickens (who ARE alive) getting back to the point, Eddie isn’t some supermodel in this movie and it’s nice that they’re not trying to make him that. It’s refreshing to get a superhero movie where the main guy is literally the most loser to have ever losered

And finally the most recent movie (2024) and Eddie is back to looking gross. He’s wearing the same San Francisco shirt (except for when he changes into the suit and looks so hot) but not only does he wear the same outfit for the entire movie he doesn’t have any fucking shoes. He’s somehow even lower than the first movie and he got dumped in that movie! Poor guy just needs to like shower and sleep for a week but he doesn’t get that cause the directors hate him. I feel so bad for Eddie but also it’s very on brand for him. I know this post is long and very all over the place it’s just been bugging me that not enough people appreciate how underwhelming Eddie Brock is. He’s not some hot, ripped guy who also has an alien, he’s a weird little dude who doesn’t seem to know what a shower is and also has an alien. And sure you could argue that his life is constantly falling apart in these movies but hey, my life is always falling apart and I still shower regularly. Semi regularly. Point is I shower. Thats really all this post is. Bragging that i shower (it’s not)

Watching let there be carnage and oh my god yall weren't kidding about the break up scene. This is whole ass a break up.

Okay, so it's been a handful of days since I've seen Venom 3.. and I think I've finally got my thoughts together.

This review will have spoilers, so it will go under the cut.

these are all my opinions, so don't take my word as gospel or anything...

Anyone who knows me and my blog knows how much I've loved these movies since 2018, so to see me not ranting about the third Venom movie should be evidence enough how I feel.

I... don't feel like this was a satisfying conclusion to the Venom franchise. I really feel like there was so much more that could have been done, and should have been, instead of what we got.

I truly feel that introducing Knull into the story was a mistake. The first 2 films were so much smaller scale. Expanding all the way to the fucking symbiote god after only having done Carnage just felt like such a massive leap. And they really didn't do much with him anyway.

It felt like they included Knull because they were obligated to. Like Sony made them in order to have a weird spin off involving Knull trying to kill stuff. I don't know. He didn't do much besides tease future movies where he's the villain again. And that's kind of boring...

I will sound so narcissistic saying this, but I truly feel that the story I came up with, where the villains of Venom 3 are former Life Foundation employees angry at Eddie for ruining their lives, made way more sense. In terms of scale, you know? Much less "huge universal threat" and more of the small scale "threat to Eddie and Venom specifically" type story. Even Riot, being a threat to the Earth, was smaller scale than Knull. Knull is just too much. Too big. Too unfocused. It felt like too wide of a net. It felt generic, i hate to say it. It just felt like every other dumb ass gritty movie where the bad guy wants to destroy all life as we know it. (And quite frankly, he could have been taken out of the movie and not much would have changed. Venom and Eddie could have been hunted by the xenophages for any number of reasons.)

The part of the movie that I enjoyed most was the beginning. The part that felt like Venom. Where we saw Eddie and Venom working in sync to free those dogs. I loved that. I loved seeing how far the two of them have come and how well they work together. .. seeing their journey in a montage later? That felt... lackluster. After seeing them literally working together just an hour earlier in the movie, it felt kind of cheap. The way the story ended for these two didn't feel like a victory. It felt like the Avengers Endgame "well we gotta get rid of this character because their contract is up" situation.

The movie was definitely a fun time. I enjoyed myself watching it. But I was left feeling a sense of "That's it?" That I haven't felt since Avengers Endgame.

I'm happy that Tom Hardy got to do these movies. I absolutely will forever adore the first 2. They're fun, they're goofy, they're gay, and I love them. .. but this third one just... yeah. I'm disappointed.

I will always love Venom. That much is not going to change. I love these two gay losers and I'm so happy I got to have them in my life. They brought me so much joy, and so much brainrot, and I will miss the fuck out of them.

When the military inevitably puts Eddie in a deep dark hole in the middle of nowhere for talking about his missing spouse (even though the people he talked to already knew about Venom) no one is more surprised than Eddie when his new "friends" ride to his rescue...

Eddie: You really put aside everything and came all this way for me? How did you even get here so fast?

Frances: Several traffic violations.

Cletus: At least... um let's call it three counts of resisting arrest.

Carnage: Roughly thirteen cans of energy drinks.

Frances: Also that's not our car.

Once again, I rewatched LTBC and gotta say, the pacing, the building and an actual story seem so much better and consistent than in VTLD. Emotional connections feel validated. And the worldbuilding that started in the first movie matters there, too. Don't get me started on the side characters who also seem more alive.

I like how they showed us Carnage. He is scary, if you really think about it, but he's also an intriguing character. He's a fresh symbiote, he's wild, he's totally out of his element in this world and doesn't know better and follows his instincts only.

Why he fits the story better than any Knull? Apart from the things that I want to talk about some other time, Carnage fits better because his introduction and danger feels gradually higher after Riot's. It's a step up, but not a jump between the whole staircase. While in the Knull's intro we're immediately thrown somewhere to the skyscraper. And off of it. In my opinion, there shouldn't be Knull just yet. Or at all.
