Brian Eno has been popping up on my radar a lot lately, and I'm wondering about the new Gary Hustwit Eno documentary and whether to attend a screening in the next few months, possibly the live screening on Oct 10. Plus I really want to get the set of cards Eno and Bowie used during the making of their Berlin album, mentioned in this excellent article on creativity. (For anyone who can't get past the New Yorker paywall I can send you the text of the article.)

Lee would you like to share the inquisitiveheretic cinema classics? 👀
THE CLASSICS. essential films for viewing and understanding my blog. here's the shortest list not in any order:
jennifer's body (2009) self explanatory. essential 00s pop punk watch, essential horror jam for my generation
hard core logo (1996) insaneeee tragic band guy dynamics here its a pain to find but it changed me <3
metallica: some kind of monster (2004) OKAY UM its bonkers. rewired my brain forever. deeply painful to watch (cringe), hilarious without meaning to be (cringe), kind of tragic if you know a lot about metallica (hi). when pete referenced it while talking about smfs i was deeply shaken cuz thats probably the craziest thing he could have possibly said.
velvet goldmine (1998) self explanatory !!!!!
perfect blue (1997) checks all my boxes re: fame + self, also beautiful i luvvv the art style
d.e.b.s. (2004) its LESBIAN FUN and its a masterpiece
house of wax (2005) camp and brutal gore yay! paris hilton death scene slayed

My bff and I have had very different paths of “personally important queer and queer-adjacent film” and it’s been such a joy to share the Natalie Wood burlesque movie, Velvet Goldmine, and then today Cruising.
Now it’ll be my turn to watch Bound and Desert Hearts.

Favorite Color?
I'm a sucker for jewel tones, of any kind. My hair is currently mermaid adjacent, with some magenta-pink, teal, teal-blue, blue-purple all kinda up in there. If you're interested? Unicorn was the brand I used. Semi-permanent, layers well. Very pigmented, so you can get intense color by just painting it on your hair, OR blend it in w basic bitch conditioner for a pastel variant.
Favorite Food?
It's hard to choose any one. I've had a lot of realllllly great food in my life, but? A forever fave is definitely gado gado. It's Balinese. Steamed vegetables, tempeh, rice, fried FRESH tofu, served with a flavorful, spicy peanut sauce.
Sweet/Spicy/Savory?
It...depends? Sweet & Spicy? Korean bbq wings. Yes, please. That. Just Spicy? Spicy Miso Ramen, or Thai Curry. The only one that I can't really do is Savory. I'm extremely sensitive to salt.
Last Thing I Googled?
I was double checking the og Buffy series air dates, bc I wanted to check my memory before declaring that yeah, Peter Hale totally would have been the right age demo to be super into it.
Currently Reading?
Endless fic. Nerve pain flare ups in my hands make holding my books unpleasant, sadly. So, I tend to consume fic via primarily podfic. I have too many reccs for this ask, so I'll save that for if anyone asks.
I do read text versions too, but holding my phone can sometimes be a lot when my hands are hurty, so. Before my hands got really bad, though, I was reading my hefty anniversary edition of "American Gods" by Neil Gaiman.
Last Series?
I. Don't want to just say "idk, fic" again, so I'm just gonna use this section to shamelessly recc "The Protector of the Small" series by Tamora Pierce.
Last Movie?
Thor: Love & Thunder.
I was up, wanted to watch something, and am not the type to pan a movie based on movie bros' Strong Opinions tm tm. It was...I mean? Not as good as the last one, but not exactly the world ending failure people were crying about. Christian Bale was a lot, though. A Lot. I'll give them that... they weren't wrong there.
Last Song?
Baby's On Fire (cover) as performed in the movie Velvet Goldmine. It fuckin slaps. It is my entire jam, because I am glam rock trash.
Song Stuck In My Head?
thankfully??? Not a one. I have a brain that hyperfixates. When I let that happen for songs, it will play it on repeat while I'm trying to sleep. So, yeah. I have methods for preventing that.
Something I Want?
For my body to slow its roll on the inflammation train. Ig this is what makes Hashimoto's vs a non autoimmune thyroid disorder ""fun."" When a flare up kicks off, everything goes hog wild. All at once. Like a symphony orchestra of discomfort.
Dream Trip?
Reykjavik, please and thank you. Or the Laplands in Finland. I've been to Bali a few times, and I love it. Costa Rica was beautiful, too. But, like? I just want to be somewhere with polar nights, bc I am weird like that, ig.
Currently Working On?
Self care. I've been doing the caretaker of a caretaker thing for a bit, and my spoons are limited.
Time?
2:38 am (lordT. To bed with me)
So, like. To the tagging others bit...
Sorry babes for being my only tags for a response, but I think everyone else I know has done this or been tagged? No pressure to reply, obvs. I just didn't want to let this die on my doorstep

on music mode...just watched this old 2002 mcr concert and god it's. incredible. i doubt you have any works/books on it but do you have any that are at least on creating? doesn't even have to be music but god just watching that made me feel all pumped and encourages me to get better at guitar (it's not necessary, just really excited :]])
oh FUCK. fuck. stuff about creating. stuff about creating that is vaguely adjacent to mychem. fuck i am digging around in my brain there are piles of clutter everywhere.
if u want like. mychem adjacent stuff.. then like.. baz luhrmann's romeo + juliet. velvet goldmine. my own private idaho. the tv show we are lady parts. cabaret. chicago. jennifer's body. (<- literally none of thse are fucking books but. whaddevverrr <3) but u r an mcr blog u probably knew all that already </3
if u want books and stuff specifically, try the beat poets, maybe- i won't recommend anyone specific, but. y'know. you can poke around w/ them. (this is partially bc i am chickening out i don't want More Discourse... beat poetry is like. one of the areas where u gotta like. idk. be aware of what you're consuming- allen ginsberg was shitty but he wrote some brilliant stuff. same w/ jack kerouac. same w/ a whole lot of other ones 😭 like, there's some wonderful writing and you shouldn't let anything spoil it for u, but just. yknow. grain of salt.) ALSO also also while we're at it u should look up andrea gibson on yt they're a slam poet who writes a lot of stuff abt transness and self-creation and stuff like that >:))
also also allso i don't wanna dig thru transcripts right now but!! if u have time. u should check out the podcast alice isn't dead.

there’s nothing really prompting me to say this but i really need society to understand more trans narratives than just “ive always been trans i just didnt have the word for it” or whatever. that’s fine and good if that’s how you felt but like some of us did think we were cis until we werent. like i was very sure in being a girl until i was like. huh. not identifying with womanhood really. and for me being otherkin also factors in like i really don’t know if thinking i was a wolf as a kid was just me misdirecting feelings of transness i could have had but like. it doesn’t really matter to me figuring out what came first, feeling like i wasn’t human or feeling like i wasn’t a girl. i think really, it’s just both. i try to figure out “would i still be otherkin if i wasn’t trans?” because i’m wondering if it’s a product of already not identifying with my body, but really, what matters is just knowing i AM trans and AM otherkin. whichever came first feels so irrelevant now. but yeah i didn’t always know i was trans, y’know? i believed i was a girl for a good like 12-13 years. and even when i decided to be genderfluid i didn’t really act fluid (although that was due to pressure from my family and ex bf to be feminine) but when i finally was able to experiment with gender i found i was not fluid. essentially my gender is fluid now but it’s also not but like. my genders are Catboy, Femboy, wolf, man-adjacent Thing, and demon. And Frank Iero and Gerard Way. And Velvet Goldmine. That’s it those are my genders
edit: HOW COULD I FORGET MY GENDER/SEXUALITY OF PETE WENTZ AND PATRICK STUMP AS WELL IM SO SORRY

Movie asks: 6. A film you wish you hadn’t watched? 12. A movie that holds a special place in your heart? 18. What’s your favourite biopic?
from the Film Ask Meme
6.  A film you wish you hadn’t watched?
I wish I hadn't seen those fifteen minutes of the Transformers movie that was inexplicably playing in my hospital room after giving birth to my son. The mother in the next bed over was watching it and it was more hellish than my newborn gum-chomping on my bits. It made me want to unfasten my own head, as if it was a Barbie Doll’s and throw it in the East River. I was actively looking for something to sabotage the television with. Those are fifteen minutes I will never get back.
Answered another way here.
12.  A movie that holds a special place in your heart?
My mom's an odd, inconsistent sort. She's quite conservative but she never policed what I listened to or watched, almost as if she trusted me to understand that fiction is fiction and not always meant for life. I say almost, not facetiously, but legitimately, because I'm still not sure it wasn't a kind of benign neglect. Anywho, one year I heard about this movie called Velvet Goldmine that was going to be all about glam rock and Bowie and fandom. I told her I wanted to see it and we went together and I remember thinking at one point, there's a whole lot going on here that isn't really friendly to mom-adjacent viewing, and yet... we found so many things to talk about afterwards. For me, it was Christian Bale yelling joyfully at his parents, THAT'S ME! and this movie made me feel that way too, THAT'S ME and there we were, me telling my mom who I was and her listening.
18.  What’s your favourite biopic?
Daniel Day Lewis' twinkly-eyed ferociousness in My Left Foot has certainly earned it a place in my Biopic best-of. It's a film where the central performance outshines the subject but nevertheless, what a performance! A rare Best Actor Oscar for the actual role and not whatever happened the year or years prior.
Answered another way here.
Thank you, @fatherjerusalem!
