Apologies for the incoming essay... Re. Kant and choices and him choosing to involve Style - look, nobody's out here trying to say Kant's eligible for best friend of the year! But there does seem to be a lot of retroactive woobifying of Style, attempts to exempt him from the current tangled web, etc., when, lest we forget, he agreed to try and seduce a man FOR A CAR. He then proceeded to stalk said man, and to disrupt and exploit a grief counselling session FOR A CAR. Of course Kant shouldn't have involved him (but when your options are limited and you're desperate, you're not always thinking straight), but it was Style's own a) automotive greed and b) bruised ego (after their vehicular run-in) that got him where he is today. It was a bargain that he himself suggested - it wasn't even Kant's idea! Let's be honest, he could've just said nah mate, you're alright, and what could Kant have done about it? Style is not untouched by the taint! And that's okay - let him be messy too (the fact that he'd already had a couple of fraught encounters with Fadel even before Kant introduced them was a deliberate decision on the writers' part)! He had his own agenda going into this which he'd need to apologise for regardless of the added assassin shenanigans, and once he's in the know, he becomes as responsible as Kant for what happens next - they're both faced with the same choice: confess in order to try and keep the brothers out of jail, or stay schtum, despite their misgivings, out of fear for their own lives. And they both chose the same path. All four of them have been lying to each other from the get-go, for multiple complex reasons, some maybe more valid or understandable than others, but point is that none of them are squeaky clean and ALL of them bear at least some responsibility for the colossal shitshow that they now find themselves in! And that's what makes it good TV!

(I'd also like to point out something I find interesting, which is that Kant's rhetoric with Style has always been about looking out for number one - he tells Style he's doing it to clear his record, get those charges off his back, outside the restaurant he talks about having to prioritise saving your own skin over everything else, even though that makes him sound a bit cold...but he's not doing it for himself, is he? He's doing it for Babe. He's doing it because of the repercussions that would fall on his little brother's head if anything were to happen to Kant, whether that be jail time or an early grave (though I'm not saying he'd be a-okay with either regardless!). Babe has been his driving force the entire show (as yours and others' beautiful meta has explored) - Kant does the OPPOSITE of prioritise himself, and has done so since his parents died, and that's why HE'S in this mess in the first place. But, to the best of my recollection, he never invokes Babe when he's trying to win over Style, and I can't decide if that's because it's a line he won't cross (though he did sort of cross it when using Babe as an excuse at karaoke, or does that not count cos it was a lie?), or because he truly doesn't see himself as self-sacrificing so wouldn't even think to frame it in those terms to someone else. Or a combo of both!)

I think part of the reason the Kant slander (by which I absolutely don't mean legit critical analysis or taking the well-earned piss out of him!) bothers me is because I'm conscious that First is, at least to a degree, aware of the negativity (and tagged into some of it because ppl suck), which is why every time I look online he seems to be apologising on his character's behalf. And yes, it is in jest, but, knowing he's an inveterate people pleaser, I also get the sneaking suspicion it's also partly genuine, which makes me sad.

yeah, aaaabsolutely agree with everything you’ve said here. like i think the argument about style has more merit too it, but at the same time im still sat here thinking, what was kant’s other option? because bison gives him this stipulation: if you want us to date, you have to find someone for fadel. and kant cant just cut his losses and say okay, then i guess we won’t date. he has to get close, he has to get this information. so he has to involve someone else, retroactively. and we can argue about if he should have told style the full truth from the beginning, but not only do we see the captain specifically tell him not to do that, but i think kant is well aware it would not have worked if he did. style would have blown the operation out of the water way too soon, if he even agreed in the first place which the odds of him doing without having some investment into fadel would have been very slim! like it sucks, but realistically, what else could kant have done that would have allowed him to do what he needed to? what other choice did he have?

and like you said, style is far from innocent! none of them are innocent in this! thats the whole point! and that’s the big thing, too, because it’s meant to be this complicated messy thing. they subbed in the women from taming in the shrew for assassins because it allows for this intense sort of courtship that was brought on by misogyny in the play, while also allowing us to understand that fadel and bison aren’t innocent, either. that they’re all fucked up and messy in their own ways.

and yeah, i think getting into the babe of it all just isn’t something kant is willing to do for the most part. i think he tries to keep babe out of it as much as possible, but using him as an excuse to get out of there was the most realistic thing he could do, especially when bison has already seen that protective brother side of him. and i also think that kant just doesn’t view himself highly in general. he doesn’t think of himself as selfless or self sacrificing because he knows the awful things hes had to do in order to keep babe safe and in his custody - and while maybe for other people knowing it’s for babe would help his case, he doesn’t feel that way. because obviously he wouldn’t change it, but it doesn’t mean he liked doing any of it, that he likes the lengths he’ll go. especially when i think he thinks if babe knew, he wouldn’t like any of it, either. babe already didn’t like just the lying to bison. can you imagine what he’d think if he knew kant had drugged him once? if he knew all of it was built on a false start? kant probably thinks babe would hate him for it all as much as he hates himself for it.

and as for the first of it all, i do hope despite the media literacy some people lack in it all that he knows he did a fucking incredible job with kant. i say this as someone who has been making detailed posts about first’s acting since the eclipse, but i genuinely think this is his strongest and most nuanced performance. hes made kant so, so clear and easy to understand if you’re paying attention, and i love him so dearly for it.

When he wakes, he's in an unfamiliar room, greeted by an unfamiliar child who looks just like E... Buck... and... Buck?

He can tell that something is wrong but he doesn't know what so he lives out the day, growing more and more confused. He makes love to Evan that night, falling into peaceful sleep. When he wakes he doesn't recognize where he is, but he's greeted by a kid that looks just like Evan and... Evan? Except parts of the world keeps distorting around him, the headaches get worse every time it does, and in the recesses of his mind he can hear a voice calling for him, but he doesn't know how to reach it.

Something is seriously wrong, but he doesn't know how to fix it... Or how to get back to his true reality.

It quickly became this favorite thing to do after the first time, constantly coming up to you and transforming with a "need a ride?" and happily agreeing when you're the one to ask him.

Probably gets a little jealous when you ask someone that isn't him

He desperately wishes you could deliver drinks with him around his bar while skitching, how cool would it be if you two just drove around and handed bots their drinks one after the other?

So excited though, also has a lot of fun as you join him and cruise with him around the ship

He for sure convinces you to be silly around the ship, messing with Magnus or other bots and just as quickly leaving the room unnoticed

I think he also accidentally transforms while you're still holding onto him. You're like, screaming as you hold onto him for dear life and he keeps turning around in circles trying to find you (you swinging around and begging for him to stop moving)

Despite all the silly shenanigans, he still obviously goes out of his way to make sure you're safe and comfortable.

Probably tells you about the latest drama or stories as you're cruising around to keep you entertained, also because Swerve tells you everything

BIOGRAPHY.

lando was the first of the twins to be born and he’s been hard to slow down ever since, almost as if the rambunctious free spirit toddler phase never fully aged out of him

school never went well for lando, while he was diagnosed with attention deficit disorder early on, it took them much longer to discover he was dyslexic. 

he spent most of his studies frustrated and confused which led to some of the reasons he acted on by way of testing limits with adrenaline fueled stunts, partying, and comedic jokes and pranks

never once did he intend to hurt anyone or do anything bad, he just sought out dopamine and serotonin where he could muster it to combat the conflicting battle he fought internally with emotions he couldn’t explain and chemical imbalances

when he was sixteen, he made the decision to drop out and get his GED. it was around the time his brother chose to go a complete opposite path than him.

without any real reasoning, he chose to travel with some friends and explore the world ( mostly north and south america ) where he learned his love for poetry and photography. 

to get by he would do odd jobs for people and sell some of his photos online for papers and art purposes. 

when he was about twenty five he got into a horrible snowmobile accident in canada that nearly killed him. 

he was treated at a hospital in canada for immediate injuries then was transferred back home to texas for the rest. He ended up needing part of his neck and skull reconstructed and his entire left arm.

recovery was brutal, he had to learn almost all his basic motor functions and how to talk again, resulting in him needing to move back home with his mother and younger sibling for awhile 

once he was able to, he got a job at six flags for something to do while he was continuing with physical therapy and he ended up liking it so much he stayed even after, eventually becoming a manager

he still does his photography, though he’s never been very serious about it or the poetry, they have always been just for fun. 

in general he’s not very serious and jokes around about everything and doesn’t stop to think about much, he just wants to live his best life and be a good son, friend, brother, etc.

Meet the Girls

The family origins of Jamie Parish are shrouded in mystery. Indeed her very name comes from a juvenile mispronunciation of "Jane" or "Janie" and the surname Parish relates to the Catholic church where she was abandoned/found. Jamie was living a tough life in the system and most recently on the streets; until a fateful and booze-soaked night left her pregnant and in desperate need of help. Luckily she's found Hillside Haven and is now in a safer place.

Rose Williams was orphaned and injured in the vehicular accident which killed her parents. You can't often see the scar on her forehead, which she mostly keeps covered with a fringe. Rose has been at Hillside Haven the longest, staying with Vicky for several months now. She also had the most "normal" childhood of the three girls, at least, she was the only one to have both parents present while growing up.

Chloe Samuel is the newest resident of Hillside Haven. Hers is, potentially, the most dramatic story. Young Chloe lived with her artist mother (Zuri) and their beloved cat until one night when she was out in Totter Park a little too late and was viciously attacked by a stranger out of the dark. Chloe was pronounced dead and Zuri was making arrangements to bury her daughter when Chloe came back to life in the funeral home. Fortunately for Chloe, a small, connected faction of the Copperdale community know vampires are more than myth and they were able to secretly spirit Chloe to safety. Now Chloe must navigate a new hunger and a new world. As our story begins, she has yet to be reunited with her mother or classmates.

Vicky Martin is the bold, blonde paralegal who runs Hillside Haven. In her early thirties, Vicky has no children or partner as yet; but rather devotes herself to championing young girls in need. She has just recently been bought into the loop on the vampire front and Chloe is her first supernatural charge {as far as Vicky knows...}

Vicky is supported by her loving father Robert plus many colleagues and friends.

Her rules for Hillside Haven are fairly simple.

I) Speak the truth, always. Omit if you really must, but don't tell falsehoods.

II) Make your own bed (it's a small accomplishment but it sets one up for the day and declutters the room, clearing mind space).

III) No alcohol or drugs (if you're here, you're here for a reason, no need to go making problems worse).

IV) Curfew is 9pm (no late night shenanigans).

In return, Hillside Haven is exactly that. A safe space where residents can put the pieces back together and find their feet again.

It delightfully balances the Sonic X humor with bits of flirting and the occasional moments of emotional vulnerability between both Sam and Sonic. The shenanigans and humor are the type of thing you can imagine happening in universe, and the flirty/shippy bits are enough to make you go 🥺🥰. Likewise, the smut itself balances the sexy, the awkward, and the funny (which includes puns!) in such a way that doesn't "ruin the moment" as the author plays this balancing. This is all to say, that it's a wonderful example of comedic smut (one of my favorires) while also being enjoyable and/or sexy. It's a fic that can make you blush over simple proximity or hand holding right after showing Eggman's Sonic X typical shenanigans. It's a fic that can interrupt a sexually charged scene with "attempted vehicular manslaughter" (as the tags put it) and then have them go right back to the kissing unfazed.

It's a fun fic, and a cute one at that. So every bit of writing leading up to the eventual smut was just...enjoyable. I laughed a lot, became embarrassed on behalf of the characters, went 😳😳😳, and laughed some more

If you're considering this pairing at all, I'd give this fic a shot. And if you like Sonic X style comedy and shenangigans, puns, some good ol racing rivalry, humorous smut, and two idiots being a little down bad for each other (but trying to play it cool), this may be the fic for you.

On a scale of 1 to 10, how well would your OCs drive if they had cars in their world? What shenanigans would crop up while they were learning? Who nearly runs over who?

Hmm. Let's see. There are no cars, so I have to consider….

Hhamath would probably be a 6. He's decent, but he's not winning any awards. He maybe gets into one accident ever, and it'd a minor rear-end at a stoplight.

Ræs is probably a solid 4. He drives a big truck to compensate for his lack of vehicular coordination. Mostly, his problem is a constant, low-burn road rage. Any slight could set him off.

Athetæm is an 8. He's been driving for too long and too often to not be pretty about it.

Fethu is a strong 7. She's very logical and in-control.

Shryth and Ohrik can't drive because Shryth never gets tall enough to reach the pedals and Ohrik likes the feeling of being chauffeured (nobody realizes he can't drive until he's 20-something).

Narak is also a 6, but if you were to ask him, he'd give himself a 3.

Lutem is a 10, and she uses offensive driving techniques almost exclusively. She was in many accidents as a teenager, but she hasn't so much as knocked over a trash can since she was 19. Anybody who rides with her is safe as can be, but the way she drives makes them extremely anxious.
