Tiger Strikes Asteroid Los Angeles is pleased to present Växa, a group exhibition of work by  artists from Sweden, Denmark, Iceland and Iran. Växa is the Swedish word for growth. It can be biological growth, like when plants grow or how an artificial intelligence expands on the internet. It can also be personal growth, or how a person can grow; possibly beyond the limits of this realm.

Each of the artists approaches growth individually as a subject or concept which translates across mediums such as video, performance, sand drawings, painting and sculpture. This creates new exchanges between the works, which with common threads reach out to each other, forming new connections.

The exhibition includes the artists Emm Berring, Arngrimur Borgthorsson, Maja Gade, Johan Lundin, Bahareh Mirhadinezhadfard, Ina Nian, and Maria Norrman. They are members of Galleri CC, a non-commercial, artist-run gallery located in Malmö, Sweden.

The exhibition is part of the ScandiLA exchange program between Swedish run project spaces and Los Angeles run art spaces. From Japan to Iceland, futuristic vertical farms are starting to bloom

Indoor farming is a new and rapidly growing trend that has significant benefits over traditional agriculture methods, including increased efficiency and sustainability. Indoor farming can also help to combat climate change by reducing the amount of greenhouse gas (carbon dioxide, methane) released into the atmosphere and reducing the need for pesticides.

There are several different ways to do indoor farming, but the most common approach is to use hydroponic systems. These systems rely on water systems rather than soil to support plant growth, creating a controlled environment for the plants to grow in efficiently. An array of sensors designed specifically for this ensure that waste is minimized and resources are recycled whenever possible. Hydroponics also allows farmers to grow crops without dealing with pests or disease outbreaks, and it requires minimal land area compared to traditional agriculture methods. Because you essentially build the farm vertically, you can use places like former factories or warehouses.

In the Shizuoka Prefecture, a facility that’s around 20,000 square feet (0.2 hectares) grows a whopping 12,000 lettuces a day (lettuce is excellently suited for this type of farm). Farmers set up the light regime for the plants (using LEDs), as well as the temperature and humidity level, and enjoy round the year crops. Not only is the area required for the yield much lower than with conventional methods, but the water usage is also lower (10-20 times lower).

More recently, a farm in Kyoto developed by a company called Spread became a record-breaking facility that also introduced bees to pollinate its strawberries, achieving stable pollination under LED conditions and showing that there’s plenty of unexplored opportunity within vertical farms.Image credits: Spread.

Singapore is also betting on vertical farms with one farm established in 2022 producing 500 tonnes of greens each year, in addition to its previous projects. Being able to grow food directly in urban areas means you can bring it to consumers quickly and inexpensively.

Meanwhile, Iceland is taking advantage of its ability to produce cheap, sustainable energy using geothermal sources to fuel a large vertical farm. Iceland has constantly had a problem of having to import food, and Iceland has one of the most expensive food markets in the world due to this. But Andri Bjorn Gunnarsson, founder and CEO of VAXA, the company behind the vertical farm, says Iceland also has some advantages that make it suitable for vertical farming.

The tall alien woman as the walked past each aid's wings, tapping on each one's door to make sure they're actually inside before going off to her own quarters. Well, at least Yela know that her older sister and the child are back safely. After all, she doubt both would be outside for too long anyway their own kind might enjoy the hydration that comes with it, but it wasn't a lot they could probably do.

Hence why she stayed in her quarters to continue experimenting what chemicals worked best for a medicine she wanted to show to Doctor Vaxa later.

THE SOLAR SYSTEM OF KARIIO 15-R

Kariio 15-R hangs on the outer fringes of its solar system — a binary star system that its denizens refer to primarily as Vkrhek Khrûr or simply Khrûr, which both mean Permanent Embrace and Embrace respectively.

The two stars are referred to as a single entity with most of its titles, some examples being Vasiir-Ûkyk-Oress (meaning Eyes-Above-Firmament), Vaxa Sakhûstovas (meaning The Twins), or Idisiroscion (which gets its meaning from the words Idisiro and Idiscion, which mean Scientist and Warrior) which is sometimes also called the longer name Idisiro Idiscion. There is also an even longer name which is its root meaning and the origin of the title for their suns, Wossakhæx Viorin Idisiro sa Idiscion which translates to Balance Between Scientist and Warrior (consequently, a common kariian saying is 'wossakhæx viorin issin sa vak' which means balance between mind and body).

As it's been implied, separately the stars are referred to as Idiscion, the Warrior, and Idisiro, the Scientist. The Warrior is also called the Fighter, the Champion, or the Guardian. The Scientist is also called the Scholar, the Hunter, or the Analyst. Naturally, Idiscion is the larger of the duo; a Wolf Rayet star orbited by a much smaller A-type Idisiro. Kariians do not associate the suns with any sort of historical or existing figure in their history, more that they personify the stars themselves.

The strong stellar winds render much of the solar system a dangerous place to navigate (which is fitting for its people), but also a wealth of heavy elements. The planetary nebulae of the Embrace makes it near impossible for incoming scanners to detect what's going on in the vicinity of the binary stars, as the perpetual spacial 'storm' also acts as a sort of barrier. Hence, the name of the 'Embrace' not only refers to the orbit of the two stars in itself, but also in the way their 'embrace' extends over the entire solar system, shielding them from prying eyes.
