Heyy so I may or may not have binged half of the first season of The Legend Vox Machina already…

and I also may or may not be completely obsessed with and attracted to every single fucking character-

if you can’t tell I am HOOKED onto this show

(I have known about the show since s3 came out and Critical Role for a bit now I just never got into it until I started playing DnD)

anyways here’s my favorite moment of the show so far besides “Too weak to tickle your own pickle.” I am obsessed with Vax and Keyleth and I love them so fucking much.

(I also really love Pike and her dynamic with Grog :)

I really hope this comic is going to eventually connect the dots about this school they keep referencing. With what I'd seen about the twins' backstory in the cartoon and where I've reached in the Campaign 1 stream, I never had reason to question the skills they have, but I assumed that most of their (mostly Vax's) "shadier" skillsets were self-taught, picked up post-Syngorn, and/or adapted from skills they were taught for other purposes. I don't recall any suggestion of Assassin School as a background for them in the cartoon/stream as far as I've watched, and I'm not really seeing why. (Also, Vax alluded to learning spy/assassin-like skills at "school" when alone with Vex, implying that this is not just Vex lying to Keyleth for whatever reason.)

I got the impression Syngorn was snooty, bigoted, isolationist elf city, but their father sending them to assassin school seems to suggest two possibilities that don't really fit with the image I had of that:

1) Assassination is a reputable-enough career path in Syngorn to have a dedicated school that it's socially acceptable for upper-class people to send their kids to. (What is this, Tal'dorei Ankh-Morpork? Do they export elven assassins for hire, conduct a constant campaign of assassinations against foreign targets, or are people assassinated right and left in Syngorn to the point of occupying the graduates of an entire school??)

2) There is an assassin school in or outside Syngorn that is an (at least marginally) socially acceptable "discard" path for "Ew, my bastard half-human children aren't going to shape up into good little elves, so I've got to do something with them." Which raises the question of why the hell you would specifically train the children who are most alienated and ticked off by your culture and suffered from your bigoted neighbors to commit murder? Like, it would make some sense if it were "Ew, my disappointing children aren't going to turn into good little elven nobles who put up with our bigotry--I'll apprentice them to a farmer/merchant/craftsman/etc. so they learn some useful work"; I could see even trying to turn them into soldiers, but not "I'll send them to learn how to commit stealthy murder."

Also, if they both went to assassin school, then how come only Vax knew stuff like lockpicking when the livestream started? Vex's skillset was ranger stuff--tracking, hunting, etc., that would be perfectly plausible to learn without any shady purposes. She only picked up rogue levels/skills later in the stream.
