White Vash  [IMG ID: Vash the Stampede from Trigun in the classic 1998 anime style, a young-looking man with spiky hair and blue eyes. This is an alternate paint job version where his hair is white and his coat is white with golden buttons. He has his hand up signing Love and Peace. / END IMAGE ID].  So, many years ago, I was on a message board forum called TRINUT.  One of the users / one of my buddies there, who went by “Puchiko 2″ told us about a dream she had about seeing a white-coated, white-haired version of Vash, like it was some kind of “extra” angel-form or something.   So, of course we all thought that it would be a cool action figure repaint, like the Dark Vash.  Those of us who did fanart started fanarting it.  This is actually the second iteration I did - hand-painted acrylic on coffee-stained paper (or possibly tea, I play with both kinds of stains).  Some of us even wrote stories about it.  I have a story around somewhere about White Vash.  (As I recall, I made it a post-canon thing where he hit some kind of energy-rush that restored his health/energy after the end of the manga and he was watching the rebuilding of July.  I’ll have to search my archives...)

Okay, Tumblr Trigun-fandom, the first fanart of mine I’ll subject you to is this!  White / Ghost Vash!  Anyway, I’m going over my old Deviant Art folder of ancient, ANCIENT Trigun art from back in the early to mid-2000s.   There is a story behind this one:   Back during the original run of Trigun and Trigun Maximum, a number of action figures were made of the characters, including a Dark Vash repaint - Vash, but with a black coat, red eyes and silver hair.  I have a couple of these figures.  They’re meant to look cool and the “Dark Vash” thing was never a part of either the original anime or the manga, it was just a cool toyline thing, and was given no backstory, so it was up to collectors to imagine an “Evil Vash” or “Just different colors” as they saw fit.   Back in The Day, I was a part of a Forum / BBS called Trinut.  One of the regulars, a “Puchiko 2,” posted about a dream they had about seeing a manga cover with a White Vash repaint - that he looked all peaceful and ethereal.  This started a trend of fanart-creation among members of the board, including myself.  The top one is a digital painting, the bottom one is acrylic on coffee-stained watercolor paper.   I think some of us even wrote stories.  I vaguely recall writing one about an “ascended Vash” who got all of his energy back / got into some kind of transcendent form and this is how he appears 200 years after the series, still kickin’ and watching the people of the planet start to thrive.   So, old stuff. Weird stuff.  Enjoy.

I keep seeing those domestic vashwood aus where they settle down and live in a household thats like the closest thing a desert planet can have to cottagecore and it's really cute but I think you people think incredibly highly of them. Neither of these men have standards. They would get a place together maybe. If there's already furniture they'd change none of it because neither of them are used to staying in one place for long enough to get confortable. If there's no furniture it'll be a barren male living space forever and that's that. Then they'd get bored and start doing anything (raising tomas, woodworking, bartending, innkeeping, lighting shit on fire ect.) like a sepherd dog that has sepherding etched so deeply into its dna that it just goes insane trying to entertain itself when its owners try raising it in the suburbs. They'd be dogshit at domesticity. They would entertain the idea that they're dating 20 years in

Ohh, he’s got a name aboard the ship already. Bakery man. Not the best, not the worst. The box of donuts remains in his hands and he’s still under the microscope. 

“Wh–” 

Did that man just compliment his…? Wolfwood looks down at the open front of his shirt, puzzling over one, the fact that Vash found it necessary to mention a random baker’s pecs to his brother, and two, that this was somehow part of the basis for Knives’s…approval, for lack of a better word. 

And he still has this damn, greasy box in his hands. Knives has shown exactly zero intent on taking it from him, much to his dismay. Putting forth great effort in ignoring the sense of impending doom awaiting him farther down the corridor, Wolfwood puts one foot forward. Then another. Following. 

“Sure.” He doesn’t know what else to say. Knives doesn’t seem like much of a conversationalist, and Nicholas still hasn’t determined whether he’ll still be in one piece by the time he steps off this ship.

As they walk past the endless stretch of immaculate, moulded glassfiber walls, he scans the various blinking lights in the overheads, the secured doors further down the passageway, the low-frequency thrumming of machinery and something or other he doesn’t have a name for. A few passing crewmen dressing in coats and plain white uniforms (scientists?) give him a few odd looks, but with Knives standing next to him no one slows their stride to examine him further. He’s never been in a SEEDs ship before. 

Wolfwood’s jaw falls open in surprise. “That was you. Er, yeah. I got ‘em.” He pauses, then adds, “Thanks.” 

Probably better not to mention that filling in the hole in his door, sanding it down, and repainting it had been a royal pain in the ass. Nevermind what the hell he was supposed to do with a weird-looking knife. No handles, no practical way to hold the damn thing, and it was sharp.

“So…you’re a big knife appreciator, huh?” 

Stellar ice-breaker.

"You're more likely to find the reporter wandering in to repaint my walls in god awful neon orange." He hates it. He hates it so much. But it makes Vash laugh, and it wasn't like he can't just paint it over himself. So he allows it.

It's... flattering, to hear what Midvalley apparently thinks about him. Interesting. He tucks the thought away for later study adding another dollop of honey to his tea and shrugging a shoulder. "If Legato decides to be disobedient then you'll be useful in dealing with the cannon fodder. Assuming you can do so non lethally." They'd be useful to him in one form or another if they lived and he did hate waste.

"At worst your presence will absolutely infuriate him and he'll be distracted enough I won't have to do much to muzzle him."

Strange as it is, maybe there is hope for him to come out of all this alive after all. Knives seems uninterested in carrying on his blazing rage, and Midvalley regards him as being stronger than Legato, so... maybe?

Then again, Legato can toy with bodies like a child with a doll, so maybe it's not that easy. He's still not certain how the man does it. Sometimes around him, Midvalley can hear the ever-so-subtle pluck of a fine thread. Such a solution is whimsical at best.

"My loyalties are... malleable... at the moment," he cocks an eyebrow and takes another sip, "I was working with the intention of serving you though... so... that's where my cards are. I don't think anyone can offer anything greater than you can though—strength or money or otherwise. You're... not a guy I would want to mess with. If I'll actually help you and not just make things harder, then yeah, I'd like to come with. The idea of those two walking in on me taking a snooze in your house gives me the creeps."

You Can't Outrun Your Past, No Matter How Hard You Try...

So, I got a DM from someone looking for an old fanfic of mine - or, they didn't know if I was the author, but were looking up stuff from the old Live Journal days and found me somehow - managed to connect my regular pename to my account here - well, I do mention it on my pin-post. They were looking for a particular old fanfic and I was all "Okay, that sounds vaguely familiar" but I couldn't find it. I googled the title mentioned and... promptly had a thousand-yard stare. I used to get up to some seriously fucked up shit in my early Trigun fandom days in the early 2000's. So, I had one of those experiences that fell into the annals of "this is why I do not do co-writing." It took a bad experience in the She-Ra and the Princesses of Power fandom to finally solidify that, but I really should have learned back then. I have had more bad experiences co-writing than good ones (although there is a Zelda fic I do not regret co-creating and a pretty good Super Smash short I did with someone I'm still friends with). Anyway, I did this fic back in the day with someone whom I eventually had a huge falling out with and hope to never see hide nor hair of again in my entire life - and, if possible, I'd like to continue that relationship of no-contact into the afterlife, should one exist. The falling out wasn't over this fic we created together, it was over a variety of other things that happened later and I can admit that there were two assholes in the equation, not just one - I was just as much of an asshole as my former friend. Anyway, indeed, I am the co-author of some fic that... people still talk about, I guess? titled "Dark Mirror." As I remember it - being that I erased its presence from the Internet as much as I could and no longer retain files (if I ever kept any, they were several computers and virus-attacks / hard drive reworkings ago), it was a WEIRD fic. I remember it being a take on the "Dark Vash" toy repaint. It involved Vash going evil, but not of his own choice. He basically got Plant-rabies. He got a fungal disease that was slowly killing him and eating his brain. He also found a somehow Survived!The!Big!Fall! Rem (coldsleep pods, baby)! who reunited with him, tried to help him find the cure and they fell in adult-style love. BLECK!!! WHY?! YOUNG SHADSIE, WHAT WERE YOU THINKING?!!!! YOU WERE INSANE! (In my defense, I have figured out exactly what mental illness I had / have and have gotten medication and treatment, thank you). I also seem to recall that most of the idea - certainly the structure of the Plant-fungal disease (which was actually one of the cooler ideas in it) was courtesy of the person known as "MillyFan" (or as I'd like to call them today, the Motherfucker). I think Vash / Rem was their idea, too, but I can't be sure. It was entirely my fault for going along with it. Certain stupid cameos from other animes were my fault, I recall that. (I was trying to insert Haibane Renmei characters into the whole mess for some reason). I... feel like taking a shower now. I already took one today... Anyway, I have a lot more weirdness and "What was I thinking?!" stories that do actually still exist on my old fanfiction.net account if anyone is interested in those. I have one where Legato propositions Vash for sex in a dingy hotel (Vash runs away very quickly). I have one where a woman that Midvalley got pregnant confronts him and he preforms an abortion by saxophone. I have this one really annoying anti-Vashwood piece back when I was an annoying little shit about Vashwhood. I have one that I actually recently re-read in thinking I could transfer it to Ao3 that isn't so bad, but I was overdramatic and predictable about Vash getting a pet cat. (You know the cat is doomed from the start, right? Very "Does the Dog Die?" stuff. Blech). I really like to think that I have become... a much better writer than from my early days. Please stick to my Ao3 page to see anything that I think is actually halfway decent in this fandom.

nother doll update!!

i took both sleeves off so i could attach the cape thingy properly this time, but then i ended up sewing them back on the wrong sides 😭😭😭 im literally just leaving it that way, its only the mockup so its FINE ill just Not Do That for the final one lmfao. i also started gluing his yellow hair on, i ran out of prepared wefts at this point so i prepped some more, once those are dry theyll hopefully be enough to cover the rest of the blonde area! im gonna be starting on the bottom half of the jacket next, which is a bit more simple than the top so hopefully i can get it done quickly. but also im going to a friends house for a few days, plus my first niece was literally Just born so i might end up visiting them a bit more often now to get my baby holding time in. so no promises on how soon ill keep at it lmfao

hands-down this is the best model in the Trigun Bustup figure collection. i really don’t like the way the faces/head sculpts in general are done on the majority of them, but the Nebraskas are the outliers of the set design-wise (along with the Kuroneko who I do not currently own and also she is a cat). i am so glad these wacky early series characters got any merchandise at all bc i’ve always adored the Nebraska Family and their shenanigans. silly, but posed a genuine threat. also the fact that even tho they were basically cartoon supervillains, they were a family and loved and cared about each other!!! and their designs were all so fun aaaaaaaa i love you Nebraska Family

The Planet Gunsmoke Vash Sinister Black repaint w/o glasses figure has a wanted poster for the Nebraskas, lol. not sure if that’s just Gofsef or if the Professor was originally in the art where the slash is. actually i should check if the poster image was taken from the manga or drawn specifically for this… (the glasses variant of this repaint has a poster for B.D.N., who i dearly wish had gotten a figure himself….)
