I know that if Tsukino Usagi and Vash The Stampede ever meet they would be instant best friends.

They are so similar, with their blond hair, blue eyes, bleeding hearts, alien-like genetics, black-haired ride-or-die (romantic and otherwise), huge amounts of trauma, black cat, the overall narrative is not kind to them, almost god-like to people, wants to see the kindness in people, love and peace, non-violent nature and penchant for food and sweet things.

Also, Mamoru and Wolfwood are pretty similar. Black-haired orphans, traumatized, don't really talk much about themselves unless narrative needs them too, not exactly human themselves, do almost anything for their other half, they care (even tho they may not be the best at showing it.)

Any way imagine: Usagi and Vash would just be hanging out being lovable menaces, while the other two are like:

Wolfwood: She yours?

Mamoru: Yeah, and the guy's yours?

Wolfwood: I suppose. Want a ciggarate?

Mamoru politely refuses and they continue talking. They might talk about being orphans (or not) but they'll enjoy the other's company. Mamoru talks about his ambition of being a doctor and Wolfwood wonders that if such a kind soul was there in the Eye Of Michael then maybe he wouldn't have to suffer as much as he did, maybe Livio would be safe but what ifs never kept anyone alive

Wolfwood: So what's your weapon?

Mamoru: I'm more of a healer, actually.

Wolfwood: So bare hands, huh? Can't say I see it myself but whatever you feel comfortable with.

I feel the same way! He loves kids, but he feels like he doesn't deserve to be a parent. He thinks he's too broken, too far gone to deserve that kind of happiness. He also worries about the kind of life his kid/kids would have with the legacy of the Humanoid Typhoon as a dad looming over their heads.

He'd be a fun dad though, so gentle. He bawls his eyes out every time he sees his child doing or discovering something new. First steps and first words and stuff like that are always important, but also the first time they meet a Tomas, or try a donut, or hear a guitar strum. The chance to see his child, his baby, learn something new about the beautiful world they live in brings him to tears every time.

That's a very close one to the OG vs Stampede ask, huh?

I love the goblin dumbass he is in the OG. I LOVE him. I love his VA. I love the chaotic melodramatic babygirl queen he is. I love all his spidery scuttling around. But boy, did I want to smack him for the last five or so episodes. The eyerolls I made actually hurt......

I love '23 boy. He's. Pure. Soft. Innocent. Young. Sometimes stupid. Badass. Hot as hell when 'dancing' around between the bullets. I love him being dumb. And naive. And trusting. And sweet. And I LOVE his design. Red and teal is honestly my favourite combo ever. EVER. Look at my pfp. Bunch of my OCs had the combo as well. And you know how I am with characters with shaved sides. And blond twinks.

But. I feel like '23 Vash is a little bit too pure for my taste? Too-- uh. Perfect? I love him making promises he can't keep. I love him seeing right through WW as a parallel of WW seeing right through him in the OG.

'I don't really care about Tristamp Vash that much?' I said in March and then proceeded to suffer the weirdest anxiety attack after watching ep 11, because I cared too much about him and if anybody HURTS THAT BOY I SWEAR I'M GONNA--

Saying I don't like Stampede's Vash would be an absolute-- nonsense considering I love the Trimax one so much. They're so similar.

So. Uh. I don't know? Honestly? Visually? Tristamp!

But the charm and stupidity of the OG's resonates with me more, because he's more. Fun to me. While I always say I only like the first half ot the OG, like I mentioned in the ask earlier, I think that the OG one has a little bit more personality and I like characters with flaws. OG's Vash is a chaos incarnate. And a horrible hypocrite. Tristamp bby is -- too pure and too good for this world. And I love him very dearly.

And then I always remember that he's so close to Trimax Vash! Just less... experienced? Less knowing? Less silly? Younger?

And I'm. AARGH. I love them both, both 98 and 23 boys, okay?! :'D

I hope Stampede's Vash is gonna grow into more of that 'being silly so other's don't see i'm hurting'. The horrors are endless, he needs the silly.................

But yeah. Again. I love the idiot from Rumble. He's dumb, badass, cheeky, careless and selfish in a way. Rumble is my -- 'all the other universes meet here', it takes the most from all the others.

my thoughts and things and translation weirdness I find as I re-read ch 6 of Trigun Maximum vol 3

...I did not always just assume Knives was being cool/creepy/an edgelord here, and I most definitely did not only just realize that he just mcfreakin' angel arm'd a hole in the ceiling. cool. cool cool cool. yeah. cool.

I think it's interesting how Dark Horse seems to refer to the girls helping to care for Wolfwood specifically. also, guts VS being brave - and I think it's more in-character with the Overhaul including Meryl's bit about how reckless Vash is. the way I see it, she complains bc she cares, and that caring is something to remember about her (both in general and in regards to Vash specifically) =u=

this here isn't a translation discrepancy - it's a similarity that wasn't there up to this point. this is the first time Dark Horse has referred to Vash's home as a "colony" (whereas the Overhaul consistently calls it that). idk, I thought that was interesting.

ok I adore her tristamp iteration, too, but JTDTNDNGXZ TRIMAX LUIDA MY LOVE!!!!!her dignity and quiet authority and no-nonsense attitude that isn't caustic or anything...! like, her very first line is snapping at Vash for beating himself up, and I just. yes. you tell him, Luida. 🥺

anyway. interesting translation discrepancy here...

this scene's hitting me hard this read-through. Wolfwood's still stuck on their differences in handling life-or-death situations, but rather than argue or try to justify his position or give non-answers like he's done in the past (which I don't fault him for), Vash takes the time to acknowledge the validity of Wolfwood's methods - bc in the end, it saved lives. that's what's most important. furthermore, I think, Vash sees right through Wolfwood, recognizes his ongoing struggle processing Vash's way of doing things (and also either accepting them or reconciling them with his own way?), and apologizes for it. this is made MUCH more clear by the Overhaul's usage of "ideals" ("feelings" in Dark Horse is comparatively vague).

and now, I understand what Vash is talking about in the second panel! he's referring to everything he just said to Wolfwood ("what? my words didn't move you?!") - that's something that went completely over my head reading Dark Horse's translation.

also, once again, it feels like Dark Horse pretties up Wolfwood's speech in a way that doesn't fit the character. I rly like how, in the Overhaul, Wolfwood consistently reads as this cynical and rough, even purposely unrefined teenager or young adult.

(...also also, Dark Horse, why tf did you include "youth" in there?????)

I live thinking about Gill's unrequited love Era. That whole stretch of time where she was traveling with Vash and just her quiet displays of love. Then lots of also them figuring out what her thing with Lyric is and what Gill truly is. And I love bby stuff !

For platonic things, I like how close Meryl, Milly, and Gill are. That's the gal squad there. They stay awake at night gossiping and shit, and like they know all about Gill's feelings and like try and navigate both encouraging her but lowkey they're constantly like "are you certain tho?". And Wolfwood is a menace, he's almost like a big bro. He purposefully like flops his arms onto her head and shoulders when in the car or standing next to Gill, puts his full weight on her whenever he can. And Knives and Gill are such bitchy roomies. They're like two cats clawing at each other anytime Vash is not in the room too; but like there's a respect that is unspoken.

Pretty sure like just canon is a big road trip. Traveling with that group involves mostly Meryl as the driver and a Circus in the back. Wolfwood loves teasing everybody and starting little arguments about nonsense. Snacks are traded around the car and sometimes, mostly started by Wolfwood, they bet using them. Milly starts the most car ride games, with Gill and Vash the most eager fellow players too.

Hm, I'm not sure if there's a particular song I'm focused on rn that revolves around them. Can I just say Tombi because I love it; lmao

I just want to tell you that your new fanfic is very very very very sexy, I love it soooooooooo much! Though these brothers didn't say a word about how much they love reader, but I can sense it with all my heart. Their beautiful, dangerous, ambitious and cruel love. I especially love Knives's line —— "making it a wedding gift of mine ".

Knives, a cold, ambitious big brother. I think he didn't love reader at first. He knows his birth and maybe he held some bad feelings to her. Like we own half-same blood, but why I am a knight and you are a princess? Over time, he changed his feeling to his sister. Also, I am curious, if reader can rule July, what will he do?Is to try to win her heart or he'll try to take over the throne？

Vash did participate in this horrible revolution, but I still think he is more kind than his brother. At first, Knives suggested to destroy December but Vash want to take reader run away. He choosed a safe way and try to escape from war.But I get a little excited that he gets his hands dirty.

At last, I really like the ending which three of them marry together!! Yeah!!

although it's an au, i wanted this fic to mirror the sort of alienation they have in canon, and nai's us vs. them mentality. he'd gladly sit back and watch the whole continent burn, if only to rule over the ashes with his siblings at his side.

he envies the reader for sure, but blood wins out in the end.

if she were allowed to rule in her own right, not too much would change. nai wants power, certainly, and the king would never allow them to marry, so the best solution would be to remove the king and forcibly marry the reader, controlling both her and the throne.

he does love her, though, terribly.

as for vash, he likes to believe he's kinder, sweeter – the gentle balm to his brother's blazing inferno. but he's just as bad, make no mistake. he isn't as power hungry – hence he suggested running away. not to avoid bloodshed, but more of a declaration – i don't care where we go, what titles we have, so long as we're together'. he suggests it knowing full well that even if the reader agreed, knives' wouldn't. it was a moot point, but he wants brownie points for trying.

and he wouldn't have lifted a finger to stop nai from hurting the reader at the end. would he have comforted her afterwards, played the guilty saviour? absolutely. does he still get off to it? absolutely.

Hawks is such a light sleeper. He is just laying there thinking about how damn lucky he is to have me (hahah half joking) but really I think he would be thinking about what would be the next step for our relationship. Kids or not? Marriage? But also thinking about the small things, like should he grab some flowers on the way home from work tomorrow, just because? Or when was the last time he took me out for dinner or does it bug me that he works so late sometimes? (It doesn't, hero work is hard.) I am not much for breakfast, but when he has a day off and we get the chance to spend the morning together, we love cooking together! Something as simple as oatmeal and coffee to full fruit salads and french toast! He LOVES cooking and is actually a really good cook. As for Vash! Oh this poor man has been running his whole life. Any chance for peace and quiet, he takes it and revels in it! Spending a day walking around a market, or hanging out in the garden on ship 3! Especially the garden in ship 3! It reminds him of Rem and Ship 5. Favourite place to take me would probably be anywhere high up or a rooftop in whichever town/city we happen to be staying at. Somewhere to watch the 2 suns set. OR the middle of the dessert, with a campfire and just each other for company.

I grow sure of how to live...then lose my resolve again. Tears of joy and tears of sorrow...amidst tens of millions of bullets...my scars multiply.

Then, at last I reach my destination--

the Overhaul translates it like this:

Rem is gone. I'm all alone. Preserving my memory of her...is the only thing that keeps me going.

I grow sure of how to live...only to lose my will again. Tears of joy...tears of sorrow...falling amidst tens of millions of bullets...my scars only multiply...

Then, at last, I reach my destination.

then there's this bit, starting on the last panel of one page (on the right). "I'll eat you alive" - I LOVE IT!!! Dark Horse translates that bit as "I shall spill out your guts" and I wonder if maybe that's the literal translation...?
