So my class today started watching the princess bride and that got me thinking, tangled the series/Varian and the seven kingdoms princess bride au.

If you see my vision then yeah. If someone says why can't Varian be Inigo let me say this I don't see Varian as him but I do Hugo and I want Hugo to say " My name is Hugo Rottewage, you killed my father prepare to die." Also I think k Hugo would actually kill someone so yeah.

If you say that oh your gonna kill Donella let me say this she could just be unconscious instead.

Also I made Nigel the person who dies because Nigel is a b if you don't know who he is he's the really annoying edviser to the throne.

I can't be the only one who thought of how cool a phantom thief Varigo AU would be?

My (basic) idea is that Varian is the forensic scientist working in a modern day detective faculty. Recently a phantom thief (Hugo) starts stealing important alchemical artifacts. Varians already pissed off at this but his final straw is when Hugo steal his "PRIZE WINNING AMBER CONCOCTION!!!"

Varain tries looking for forensic evidence but he can't find as much as a finger print ("Which make no sense seeing how he wear fingerless gloves! What's even their point?!) so he has to move onto more hands on methods. Also the pocket clock Hugo has on is actually Olivia

Onto the actual art: I'm more of a fan of Varians than Hugo's, maybe I'm more of a fan of black but I feel... smarter looking at him? Idk. Please just don't look at Hugo too long. The more I look at him the more uncanny he gets.

Ok but you see how that is assuming that happiness = accepting the mating bond?

And it's true, we've seen accepting the mating bond = happiness in some cases. We've seen it in Feysand and Nessian and Vivian & Kallias.

But we've also seen accepting the mating bond = unhappiness. In Tamlins parents. In Rhys's parents.

We've seen couples with no mating bond at all = happiness. In Amren & Varain. In Lucien & Jessiminda (rip), not endgame but we know they were in love and happy together.

If every single couple we had met was happy only if they were mated, then this logic would hold up. In other words, if you could only be happy in Prythian if the person you were with was your mate, this would be a valid argument.

But that is not the case. As SJM has pointed out in several ways. So tell me, why is it Lucien can only be happy if he "gets" his mate? Why can Azriel only be happy if he "gets" his mate?

Also just the fact that 2 guys names are Rain and Sky and they're best friends is kind of funny

Their names are Varain and Naphon, Rain and Sky are just their nicknames XD

But also, like, the author likes themed names.

Payu's name means "Storm", so Rain + Storm (and Payu will draw little tornados on his things as a mark, so Rain draws little rainclouds)

Prapai's name means "Wind", so Sky + Wind, which they play with in episode titles for their half of the show.

Hey I have been reading your blog and it's been enjoyable to read. And I was wanting some feed back on some thoughts I been haveing.

1) Do u think it's in character for Varain to be "actions justify the means" or another one that is closely related "for the greater good". Cause the 3rd season finally when he shocked his father, that has been is greatest motive through out the series kind of shock me. (I been wanting to write something for Varain that will push his character in a meaningful and in character way and also get his personality down.) 2) I feel like that Tangled the Series didn't really push or break rules of the themes in the movie any meaningful way and those themes were push a side for a different story. Because I feel like if ur going to make a series or anything that happens after events of a story it should expand on them. (I just wanted to talk to someone about these words cause I constantly talk to my family about them and I think there done with me at this point lol. Also have a good night or mourning, where ever time ur at in life.

Yes, I do. It's part of his character development throughout the series, and especially through season three. He began to be a team player, and not only doing what was best for him, or what would get him the greatest reward in the end. One of the things that we need to remember about Varian is that, since his only existence is the series, it dictates what his character is like. It's not like Rapunzel or Eugene, who have an entire movie separate from the series to establish their characters, and can act contrary to their nature as it was portrayed in the film. Varian's motivation was first, to make Quirin proud and then, to get him back. But he had him back for all of season three, and he had also made him proud, as was stated in the season three premier.

The series was, in fact, an entirely different story than the movie. The showrunner even stated that they decided that what Rapunzel needed most now was a friend, and extrapolated on that. So even though they reused ideas - such as Frederic figuratively locking Rapunzel in the kingdom, then literally locking her in her room - they didn't approach it from the same angle the movie did. They wanted to tell a different story. And frankly, if you ask me, while I enjoy the series, it doesn't feel like the Tangled universe to me. For one thing, there's way too much magic. The movie implied that magic is so rare that it's shocking to see it in person. One gets the impression that Eugene didn't believe in it, until he saw it with his own eyes (hence the freaking out).

New AU idea: Mop-arian (aka the little dummy Varain made in SOTSD that showed up for two seconds) takes the place of Varian post Season one and no one notices. Mop-arain isn't sentient or anything, it's all just a lot of very well placed coincidences that lead to the exact same outcome as the original series.
