Ford being wildly possessive and jealous, especially after erasing Stan's mind. It's a very "I'm not going to lose him to anyone or anything" mindset that misfires a lot. BUT, he's absolutely horrified every time it happens because he keeps comparing it to the level of obsessiveness Bill had for him and he keeps going "oh no i cant be like him im such a bad person" and tries to hide it

Stan on the other hand very much knows and it super into it and tries sometimes to set it off so Ford will do something about it already

entertaining myself too much with the idea that ford becomes a huge stan apologist after weirdmageddon. stan could set someone on fire and ford would be like "that's how he expresses himself also why are you attacking him also he's literally a hero????" and stan would absolutely notice and escalate his behavior & since ford only has the mental capacity to change once every 30 years he just doubles down

I know I keep sharing stuff here, but Alex’s words in an interview on TV Insider (back in 2016) are really telling about how he views the Stans, especially Ford:

If Stan had lost his memory for good, that would [have] provided some interesting narrative places for him and his brother to go, but ultimately the show is about the kids. Stan and his brother are meant to be a parable [that show] what can go wrong in a family relationship, [but also] show that, with hard work and sacrifice, the riff can be repaired. If Stan’s memory had been fully erased, it wouldn’t punish him so much because he’d be gone, but it would punish Ford, Dipper and Mabel most. Even though Ford might deserve that punishment, Dipper and Mabel do not. Ultimately, I felt it would be unfair for them to go through that.

He also said, in the Behind the Scenes podcast I’ve referred to on another post, that out of the three of them (Ford, Mabel, and Dipper, that is), considering the way their hearts worked in his mind, he thought Ford would be the one to feel the hardest. Then Mabel, then Dipper. Not because Dipper wouldn’t feel it a lot (he assured the listeners that yes, of course he would), but because the others, including Soos (who saw Stan as his father), would feel it too much, so deeply, that it would inevitably push him to the last place. Of course, I understood that as being Alex’s own interpretation of his characters, and not something he’d wish to impose on his fans. Still, the paradox of Stanford Pines is fascinating to me. Someone who would miss Stan so very terribly to the point of his amnesia-induced indifference (like Alex said, Stan himself wouldn’t know nor care) being such a painful punishment, and yet... still deserve said punishment...

Ford doesn’t get what he deserves in canon, he gets forgiveness from his beloved brother instead. And to be honest? I think that’s beautiful 🥺
