MISSY ELLIOTT
SHARE
Songwriter, groundbreaking producer, label executive, and video trendsetter, Missy “Misdemeanor” Elliott was crucial to crafting the Virginia Beach sound that took over the airwaves in the late 1990s and 2000s. She established herself as an in-demand songwriter and producer and founded her own record label, all before breaking out as a Platinum-selling solo star. Elliott forged new paths for women in the music industry and society at large through her behind-the-scenes mastery and unapologetic ownership of her body, her sexual desires, and her Blackness in her music.
Missy Elliott’s debut album Supa Dupa Fly (1997) established her sound: futuristic production rife with jarring distortions under her inimitable rap style. She spit out onomatopoetic nonsense, sing-song, and jagged syncopations in a signature urban Southern drawl. On this and subsequent albums like Miss E...So Addictive! (2001) and her self-produced The Cookbook (2005), Elliott took the weird and made it not only accessible, but the most sought-after sound in hip-hop and R&B. Her music video aesthetic proved as deliciously off-kilter as her music with body-morphing visual effects. Elliott sings with a detached head (“One-Minute Man”), sports a retractable head (“Get Ur Freak On”), and exaggerates and celebrates her size with the help of a fisheye lens and a patent-leather inflatable suit (“The Rain”).
A true pathbreaker in a male-dominated genre, Missy Elliott was the first woman rapper (and third hip-hop artist) inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame and to earn the MTV Video Vanguard Award. Among her other accolades are four Grammys, two honorary doctorates, and the Woman’s Entrepreneurship Day Music Pioneer Award given by the United Nations. She also holds the record for the most Platinum albums by a woman rapper at six. Elliott has produced and/or written songs for a veritable who’s-who of stars, from Aaliyah and Beyoncé to Eminem and Lizzo.
Selected discography:
“The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly),” Supa Dupa Fly (1997) •
“She’s a Bitch,” Da Real World (1999)
• “Hot Boyz” (Remix with Nas, Eve, & Q-Tip) (1999)

A ‘Homer Simpson’ Train Wreck in Ohio
Springfield, Ohio – most famous for being the home of “The Simpsons” – is the latest victim of a Norfolk Southern train wreck in Ohio. And officials said residents were “ordered to shelter in place.” Who are these officials anyway? And where were they when the East Palestine fiasco occurred? Ironically (or NOT) Springfield residents were ordered to shelter in place even though they weren’t sure if any of the derailed train cars had toxic chemicals in them. But it is quite odd how “officials” said: "The Clark County Emergency Management Agency is asking residents within 1,000 feet of a train derailment at Ohio 41 near the Prime Ohio Business Park to shelter-in-place out of an abundance of caution." An abundance of caution??? Hmmm! We have a few questions to ask: Where was the abundance of caution regarding East Palestine? Are the “officials” planning on blowing up the derailed cars like EP? Will Petey Butt-Gig wait three weeks to make an appearance…or not show up at all? Does “Shelter in Place” trap residents kinda like the lockdowns? How are these fiascos affecting the Norfolk Southern stock price? And will “Shelter in Place” be the code word for future fake pandemic scares imposed on the sheeple? Has Ohio become the newest “Deep State”test ground for crisis management? And What if Homer Simpson and his family just want to get the hell out of the danger zone? More Than Another Train Wreck in Ohio But what people should really be focused on is What’s Up with Ohio in general? Maybe Joy Behar will cackle – like she did about East Palestine – about how “residents of Ohio are getting what they deserve because they voted for Trump.” * (* Note: That is one heartless woman who is still spewing venom about Trump for no other reason than hatred) Or Maybe Ohio’s conservative voting base truly is being victimized as part of some warped plan to discourage, defeat, and beat them into submission. (If that’s true, then the Boyz behind these “coincidences” totally underestimate the tenacity of folks in the Mid-West) Or Maybe JUST MAYBE this is all a coincidence…and that Norfolk Southern is going to come clean about what they’ve done…and will make amends to everyone affected. NAAAHHHHH! That ain’t gonna happen. They’ll simply lie about everything. And stall any settlements for many years so they can pass the damage back on the public with help from the Boyz on Wall Street and the District of Caligula. Think I’m kidding? Watch their stock price (symbol: NSC) and see how it gets propped up in the future by Blackrock and Vanguard. Learn how these Boyz work “Behind the Curtain” and avoid their traps every month in our “…In Plain English” newsletter (HERE). Share this with a friend…especially if they can’s stand listening to Joy Behar. They’ll thank YOU later. Remember: We’re Not Just About Finance But we use finance to give you hope. Since my last post, the Thunderbearers have made their debut in the Calthradia Crusade, and boy was it one hell of a debut.
Landing on Calthradia from orbit and quickly establishing a Chapel-Barracks as a temporary forward base, the Thunderbearers were barely given time to breathe before an endless tide of Orks stormed the region.
Caught off guard, the marines would quickly take defensive positions around the base in the hopes that they could fend off the horde for long enough that support could arrive from the orbiting battle barge.
Sergeant Arctos and his Intercessor squad took point in front of the main defensive line, which was being lead by Sergeant Taranis and his Devastators. They were accompanied by Force Commander Sadrian, whose powerful lead had them gunning down orks in swathes as the bulk of the orks surged forwards.
Arctos and his men, caught overextended, would be swarmed and their ranks thinned in moments, leaving Arctos and one brother to stand alone against the tide.
Sergeant Cambarn and his men broke from the main force to act as a vanguard for the defense, but they were quickly cut off, totally swarmed, and flanked by the Warboss— a particularly nasty Goff named Rex Manticore.
Cambarn made way to duel the Warboss as his companions battled the tide of greenskins. Rex Manticore would prove Sergeant Cambarn’s match, but just barely, defeating the marine only after being brought nearly to the brink of death.
The last Bladeguard standing would fell nearly all of the boyz he faced singlehandedly, but before long, even his might was overwhelmed with raw numbers.
As the Goffs neared the Chapel-Barracks and Astartes ranks were thinning by the minute, Taranis’ squad cast aside their Bolters and rushed to the Bladeguard’s aid with naught but combat knives and fists, drawing the attention of the xenos and lightening their brothers load. As the Warboss was caught off guard by this bolt disintegration of their back line, Force Commander Sadrian rushed the Ork, tackling him to the ground and smashing his skull apart in the sand. Unfortunately, this left his defenses wide open, and the boyz gunned him down.
Taranis’ Devastators were the last remaining squad of the defense. They fell back, disengaging with the orks and retaking their defensive positions. The entire Goffs horde was making way for them now, and just as Taranis and his marines beared their combat knives…
The sky above Calthradia was torn open, and from the warp came a gargantuan chunk of planet, careening into Calthradia’s surface. As the object collided with the celestial body, the orks were scattered, leaving the Thunderbearers with a secure Chapel-Barracks.
This game was maybe the most fun I’ve ever had playing 40k. It was raw action from turn 1 to 5 and a fantastic debut for both Orks and Astartes. This mission marks the end of Phase 1 of the campaign, and the beginning of Phase 2– our switch to an actual map campaign. Next post will be about that.

Eldar Guardians Ramble (They Should Have Mines!):
Currently I don’t really like how Guardians play. I like their look, but I have problems with their tabletop rules and their role in the lore. Currently I think rangers are just a better option both lore-wise and tabletop-wise, but every unit should be viable. if Guardians ever get updated then this is what I’d like changed (hint, they should get explosive mines).
Storm Guardians have 1 attack each compared to Ork Boyz or Wyches who get two and their weapons gives them a third. Even Hormagaunts get 2 attacks base with a weapon that rerolls 1s to hit. ALL dedicated melee units should have 2 attacks. I know Storm Guardians have a weapon that gives a second attack, but they should have that base, with their weapon either giving them a third, or rerolls, or AP (like other proper melee units).
Guardian Defenders meanwhile get a single heavy weapon for every 10 models. That’s 2 for twenty models. Their guns are 12”, Battle Focus means they can advance and shoot, but a 48” heavy weapon completely goes against this. It’s like the unit doesn’t know what it wants to do. Compare this to Kabalites who get 2 special and 1 heavy for a squad of 10, or Skitarii who get 3 specials per 10 models.
Then you have the problem where Eldar are a dying race with a small, hard to replace population and they only reason they fight is to preserve those still alive. Guardians are civilian militia! Taking multiple squads of 20 in light armour and weak weapons feels wrong. At least DEldar can resurrect their troops. Guardians are only taken in lore when times are desperate, so not only do they feel weak tabletop wise, even if you win the battle but take casualties you still end up losing.
You could give Storm Guardians two attacks each and let Defenders take a heavy weapon for every 5 models, and I would definitely like that, but then there’s another problem. 5 Defenders manning a single heavy weapons platform does feel better than 10, makes them feel like a proper long ranged unit, but it’s still worse than the Support Weapon unit, which has 2 Guardians crewing an even bigger gun. Then you have Wave Serpents which can take 3 heavy weapons and is crewed by, what, 3-4 Guardians? The Vyper has 2 Guardians and 1 heavy weapon, but the real winner is the War Walker with a single Guardian with 2 heavy weapons.
Hiding a heavy weapon amongst chaff is a viable option in the tabletop, but it doesn’t suit the Eldar lore. It suits the Imperial Guard, but lore wise I don’t want to take 10 Guardian Defenders, I want to take 10 War Walkers. The fact that Defenders, Vypers, Windriders, War Walkers, and Wave Serpents all have the exact same weapons only means that 1 of them is going to be the most points efficient.
Guardian infantry needs something else to be unique, they don’t have speed, or durability, or transport capacity to make them special. Right now, I feel like 9/10 times I’d rather take rangers as a troops choice, given their better survivability, damage output, and lower numbers.
So in addition to the minor tweaks I purposed earlier, I suggest giving Guardians mines. In addition to their heavy/special weapons (1 per 5 models), for every ten models one other Storm/Defender Guardian could take mines. Model-wise one arm could be replaced with an arm holding a mine, meanwhile you could have three little mines that could be put on a 25mm base each. I’m imagining these mines have little legs to run at enemies nearby (so no pressure plate), and lore-wise are programmed with limited intelligence.
How they work: In every shooting phase a model equipped with them may place a mine 3” away. So if you have 3 squads of 10, that’s 3 mines a turn. If an enemy model gets within 3” of a mine (so that’s a 6” diameter) then it jumps at them and explodes. I prefer this to an ability that’s just like “if an enemy charges the unit, they take a mortal wound on 4+”. Firstly I want Guardians to support other units, not just themselves. Secondly I’d rather the mine be like a plasma grenade since mortal wounds do nothing against Orks or Tyranids, which is what mines should be used against.
In this way Guardians could have a utility ability of area denial, something that War Walkers or Vypers can’t do. It would make Guardians of both types unique, no other Craftworld unit lays mines, and I think it’s lore friendly since Eldar do like ambushes, and mines compliment that. Aspect Warriors are the dedicated damage dealers, specialising in killing different enemies via different means. Wraith Hosts are the tough defensive unit, summoned when the Craftworld itself is under attack to act as the last line of defence.
Guardians then are the support option, used to bulk up the firepower, transport other units, carry ammunition probably, and act as the workhorse of the army. They help with logistics of war, acting as the inbetweeners. If this were another faction, I could see Guardians digging trenches, building bridges over rivers for the tanks, setting up camps, doing recon, so on and so forth. Eldar don’t do most of that, but setting up mine fields is still fitting for them I think.
So if Guardians ever get updated 1) the box should create 10 Storm/Defender Guardians, similar to Skitarii Vanguard/Rangers. 2) Storms should get 2 attacks base, 1 weapon upgrade per 5 models, and new weapons too like a grenade launcher, power sword, or power axe in addition to their fusion gun/flamer. 3) Defenders should get 1 heavy weapon per 5 models, no more changes needed. 4) 1 in 10 models in both units should be able to take mines, not as a one-use ability, and the mines should have a tabletop model, I want to visually see it. 5) Optional, I would like different types of mines like plasma, haywire, or anti-grav, and models can only take one type (although they still shouldn’t have to worry about ammunition).
And that has been my hyper fixation of the week. =)

I was trying to paint up some arco-flagellants today for my sisters of battle army and it struck me that they don’t match them.. like at all. Not aesthetically, not in terms of ethos. The Order of the Holy Mother of Macragge wouldn’t bother with sending lobotomized cyber-augmented condemned people at the enemy, that’s a) kinda morally repulsive even for the imperium and b) robs penitent sisters the chance of earning their honor back with an eviscerator. I really only picked them up so I’d have something for the Ministorum Priestess to do. But I don’t really need her, either.
I think maybe I’ll half-ass the paint job on these 20 arco-flagellants and then sell them off. Along with everything else I’m just not really interested in.
Because I’ve been having sort of a gradually dawning moment of clarity of late that there are some things I bought because I like them and they interest me, and there are some things I bought to make a ‘complete’ army for a faction that only one little aspect of it interests me. And that’s dumb, I can just ditch the things I don’t give a shit about and keep the things that actually excite me.
I’ll keep all my primaris Ultramarines, and keep adding to them as new marine models come out, because they’re kinda my main army at this point and it’s good to have options for making them varyingly competitive depending on what kind of game/opponent I’m looking at. And I always have fun painting battle-damaged blue space romans.
I’ll keep the vast majority of my Craftworlders, only ditching old models as I replace them with new ones. I’d like to basically approach the whole line with a ‘re-do’ at some point, but will be waiting on more plastic aspect warriors before I get stuck into that big ol can of worms.
I’ll keep the power-armored Sororitas and the sisters repentia, and their vehicles. I won’t bother getting a lot of the auxiliary stuff like penitent engines, but I’ll pick up the occasional model for them (still need a Dialogus for example)
I’ll keep the Ork buggies and bikes and trukk fulla burna boyz as well as the mek gunz but I really don’t care about anything else. I’ve got unbuilt boxes of boyz and flash gitz that I just... don’t care about. I want my orks to be mad max style speed freekz and i just don’t care about any other kind of ork, (the dakkajet can stay because he’s da speediest speed freek tbh) though admittedly I do want a Ghazghkull just because he’s da biggest.
I’ll keep probably half of my chaos guys. The ones I liked the look of enough to paint up. It’ll probably come out to around 1500 points. Maybe more in the new edition since points are going up across the board. It’s good the hell enough, regardless. Any models I still haven’t painted after like two years aren’t gonna get done, so I should send them on.
I’ll keep the Astra Militarum I’ve put together- mostly a few kill teams basically -but am in no hurry at all to make it a proper army. And even if I do, it’ll likely stay limited to the 30 or so infantry I already have and I’ll just add tanks. Baneblade variants most likely tbh. because big tanks are cool and I like them, and the leman russ model just looks like dogshit and i have no interest in it.
I’ll keep my Hallowed Knights for Age of Sigmar and maybe expand them a bit with some more vanguard stormcast since that’s the sort I like best.
I haven’t painted my Seraphon or my Nighthaunt in like four and three years respectively so they’re gonna go.
It is going to take a lot of mental effort to even go in and organize them to see what I’ve got much less to photograph it and post it to ebay and try to recycle them into more hobby money to spend on things i *do* like, so it may be a while, but hell it’s kind of a weird relief to even mentally acknowledge ‘Yeah, no, I’m not keeping these’ about huge swaths of my backlog.
