why didn’t you like british dimitri :(
I can't lie, he's simply not sexy enough. This is the man that had these hoes framing each other for murder for the CHANCE to be with him. You cannot convince me that British boy could inspire such nonsense.
On a more serious note...
My issue with British! Dimitri really just speaks to my larger issue with how the show, and others like it, chose to adapt the source material. I literally HATE when one of my favorite book series is adapted and it is done in a way that the VA show did. It's this thing that a lot of YA adaptations do where they take the basics of a series like the setting, characters, and usually the overarching premise of the first book and use it to create it's own show. It's what Pretty Little Liars, Vampire Diaries, and Shadowhunters did. They take the series and gut it for parts to make a broadly marketable series that they can push for as many seasons as possible. An "adaptation" that you can identify as the book series, but also tells a completely different story. This isn't me saying these shows are bad television shows. I am saying they are bad adaptations. Of the previously mentioned shows I was only able to get through Vampire Diaries and most of Pretty Little Liars, and that was because I didn't read the books before I watched it. I wasn't met with the soul crushing devastation I was met with when I watched Shadowhunters and realized it was not actually going to adapt the book. (It's why, even though it's a literal dumpster fire, I prefer the movie because it at least tried to follow the books) Some people don't mind this, and that's totally okay, but I hate it so much. I feel like these adaptations take away so much from the story they are adapting, and make it worse. Obviously they could make it work having Dimitri be British, but it also just alters so much about how he is characterized. He wasn't Russian in the way that Lissa and Adrian are. It wasn't just used to give him a cool name, or to make sense in the overall world building. Richelle made Dimitri being Russian a significant aspect of his character. It influences his plotlines and is a major factor in why he behaves the way he does. The changes made to show Dimitri fundamentally change who he is in the world of the series. Him being a foot taller than Rose isn't to make a cute height difference, it is to signify just how massive he is compared to the other Dhampirs. The boys refer to him as a god, and that's not just because he was a good warrior. If that were the case they'd say the same thing about Janine, and they don't. Dimitri's entire being makes him a force to the dhampirs. He is other worldly to them. The show made him plain, average. That is my issue with British Dimitri.

Rando question because of your old name. What were your thoughts on bloodlines? I've never been able to get tea on it from another person because, sadly, not many people know it exists in my orbit.
omg. god knows how many years i had a vampire academy url and i got like no va asks. this is my time. this is my moment. i'm so sorry in advance that this is going to be more than you bargained for.
okay so. i enjoyed bloodlines a lot. i know many people in the fandom love bloodlines even more than va. that tends to be because of sydrian. for me personally, while bloodlines is a great read that explores some fascinating concepts and relationship dynamics, it doesn't hit for me quite as well as va does for a number of reasons.
first, the development of The Lore is excellent. in particular, i love seeing the effects of everything that changed in va play out in the background. from the moroi combat movement and the bloodborne strigoi resistance from restoration to the to the political fallout of lissa's ascension to the throne, everything that happened becomes so much more substantial and impactful. it feels like meeting the alchemists and the dhampir community in blood promise—the vampire world expanded from rose's little circle in the US to the international community in a way that made her struggle with her responsibility as a guardian feel much more real.
as an extension of the worldbuilding, i love how flawlessly sydney's internal struggle with breaking out of her conditioning to accept magic and growing to care for the moroi intertwines with the development of the universe. the witches are an excellent addition, because they bridge the gap of a potentially insurmountable power imbalance (due to compulsion, as we see with the whole dabbling thing) between moroi and humans (read: sydrian). sydney is empowered to overcome the fear component of her alchemist upbringing, which opens the door for her to have healthy relationships with moroi and dhampirs. that's especially in contrast (and comparison to) trey and the warriors of light. we also get to see the power and depth of the alchemist organization, especially within the family unit, which emphasizes just how brave sydney (and marcus) have to be to fight against it.
however, the overarching plot (particularly toward the final few books), sort of falls flat. ruby circle is definitely rushed and under-edited, and doesn't feel like a natural continuation of the series up to that point. alicia is a boring villain with no real build-up or depth. she is not remotely compelling, which is saying something in a series where every character, good and bad, faces a universal struggle against an enemy race with no redeemable or non-evil characteristics. like, the anonymous person calling the tattoo parlor was right. there. use it to set up something better! and sydrian going from barely together to married to becoming parents without any substantial intra-relationship struggle as a result of those changes over the course of like...three months (much of which sydney was in captivity) is...a choice.
on that note, the character development is a bit of a mixed bag for me. from jill and neil to ms. terwilliger and even abe, almost everyone grows in such fascinating and often unexpected ways. yet, sydney herself blows them all out of the water. the way she goes through the essential unlearning phase of "i know logically i'm wrong, but it still feels like i'm right" is a masterclass in deprogramming. how she learns to let go without dumbing herself down or losing touch with the things she values and cherishes about herself? life-changing for me, personally. also. let it be known that if jackie and malachi have no supporters, i am dead.
but i do feel let down by many of the characters in this department. namely, zoe. believe me, i was not expecting her to turn into a vampire supporting anti-alchemist hippie like her sister. her primary flaws are explained extremely well, and for those i don't fault her. but i cannot name a single time she is not, at the very LEAST, unpleasant. it makes sense why sydney loves her. it is consistent with who sydney is (see: keith's eyeball) that she is so fiercely protective over zoe. but zoe doesn't really have any good moments with sydney which might explain why sydney actually LIKES spending time with her. it's especially jarring in comparison to sydney's general disdain (which i read as jealousy and resentment) for carly, who she classifies as "useless." carly's one scene is more compelling than a whole book (and then some) of zoe.
much more importantly, though, adrian to me is a bit of a letdown. first, i do want to say that i like sydrian, and in particular sydrian through fiery heart and in the epilogue. i liked adrian's character in va and was excited to see him grow. but...he never really seems to do so. undoubtedly, rose was nothing close to perfect in how she handled the adrian situation, especially with everything in last sacrifice. but to paint rose as this evil seductress who he graciously forgives while never ONCE acknowledging the ways he treated her is astonishing. the fact that he doesn't reflect on it even when what he does to nina mirrors what rose did to him? and to never once acknowledge the way he's used his privilege as a royal to perpetuated harms against "lesser" races (which INCLUDES the way he otherized rose as a dhampir and put her life and career at risk by using her as a pawn against his parents), even when sydney discovers his past with dabbling?
yes, adrian develops tremendously with regards to his family, his mental illness, and his addiction. but we never really see him value his recovery and health as something important not just to sydney, but to himself. despite having the knowledge and the means to seek treatment, he spends half of silver shadows spiraling down a path of self-destruction while sydney is trapped. and, there's good reason for that—he has to go off the meds to try and reach her with spirit. but he acts as if he's the only one who cares about sydney (or him, for that matter) and goes at it alone. he doesn't think to call sonya to ask her to help him get off the meds responsibly? or, knowing what he knows about avery lazar, consider what the consequences will be for jill? and on top of all that, not even bother to defend his relationship with sydney to his mother?
healing is not a straight line, but adrian's actions in silver shadows just erase all the progress he made before that and then some. which would be fine, and also interesting, if only he'd made improvements to himself after that. but the most i can say about adrian by the end of ruby circle is that he knows HOW he needs to change and is extremely willing to do so. which is great! but we never actually get to see it happen. and if you're going to have dual narration and promote adrian from the love interest to a main protagonist, we've got to see him grow. that said, the glimpse we get of him in the epilogue demonstrates to me that he DOES go through that development, and it makes me much more optimistic for his and sydney's futures. i just really wish we'd gotten to see it happen.

Neighborhood Vampire x Seiai: So, after attacking Midoriya, Himiko goes through a whole character arc where she's taken in by pro heroes, socialized like a feral kitten, and meets Midoriya again at Seiai. Man, that must have been... awkward.
Himiko: Ah, Iz- Midoriya, fancy seeing you again, wow you are so much cuter than I last saw you, good to know , anyway I've gotta go-
Kumiko, grabbing her by the back of her shirt: Oh no you don't, we are having a talk, do you have any idea how worried I was-
The rest of the class, looking on in shock:
Himiko oscillating between "She totally hates me and I deserve it for attacking her" and "oh fuck she's so fucking cute goddamn jesus fuck"

honestly my biggest gripe with rose and eddie's friendship is that there wasn't any conversation about spokane.... makes me hate the time jump between fb and sk too bc you're really telling me that the first time rose saw him afterwards she wasn't begging Eddie to forgive her for not being able to save mason and he responds with the exact same thing??????
I remember there's a line in SK (can't remember where, pls quote it when you get to it!) where rose "realises" that her and Eddie should have been thrown in therapy the second they got back. This is like at least a month after spokane. A MONTH and you only JUST realised how fucked up Eddie is by all of this??????????
i got you friend:

and the thing is, this realization rose makes is when eddie talks about spokane with lissa. not rose, but lissa because she wants to matchmake eddie and rose together.
i don't know if it's because of the guardian mentality that all this trauma is expected and they should never put themselves first, but it is weird that rose and eddie never talk about what they went through on paper. i'm still close to the 50% of sk but the only person from the spokane group that rose has talked with about the incident was christian, and even so it was very surface level.
this might be an unpopular opinion but i don't really see eddie and rose as "friends", mostly because eddie's screentime in va is so little and the times he shows up, it's barely with him and rose bonding. (for me it feels like eddie became her friend by association with mason). like if you think sydney and eddie, it's without doubt they are friends and i can think of examples where they talk about themselves and their problems to each other. we are shown why they are friends, not told.
who told eddie mason died? was it rose or was she there when he heard the news to comfort him? was there a funeral for mason and did they both attend? or were they too consumed by grief that they skipped? even in the beginning of sk, the way rose recaps spokane and eddie there's no mention to what their reunion was like. she just tells us what he went through and how he is now protecting her from guys. it feels like book 2 happened more than a month ago and their friendship started because of trauma-bonding.
a scene between rose and eddie right after spokane was absolutely needed. it would have made their friendship more memorable.

What's your top 10 Sadrien moments?
OH GOD TOP 10?? Alright bet!
1) The iconic 'my God Sage, your eyes' NO BRAINER
2) When Adrian stands up for Sydney when everyone keeps pestering her about her blood. The way he defends people and stands up to others is just not appreciated enough.
3) THEIR FIRST KISS ARBRASRSTBSRBR always has me kicking my legs and giggling bro UGH
4) When Adrian rescues Sydney from re-education and Sydney is like 'are you in a suit? 🥹' and Adrian was all like 'I'll make the witty lines here, Sage'.
5) When Sydney threatened to kill someone for Adrian HELLO?!?!
6) "Will you do this deadbeat Moroi the honor of marrying him?" 🥹😭
7) Not really a Sydrian moment but when Adrian holds Declan for the first time and starts crying and reads his aura and chokes up its just so sad and precious and I really think he was meant to be a father tbfh
8) Adrian always finding cute nicknames for Sydney LOL
9) omg THEIR DANCE AT SONYA AND MIKHAILS WEDDING (and Adrian photo bombing someone's photo honestly iconic).
10) Last but not least, Adrian calling out Sydneys eating disorder. As rude as it may have seemed, u think it was the wake up call she needed and Adrian genuinely helped her take a step back and look at it all just like she did with him.
Bonus:
11) When Adrian's scared of losing Sydney and she starts crying over him and he's like 'I never thought I was worth anyone's tears' and he finally went to get on meds 😭

I had a couple questions about the Academy, if it's alright to ask more than one in the same ask.
Firstly, with Vampires, how does the Academy ensure they have enough blood on hand for them? Is it donated via blood bags?
Secondly, is there a dress code at the Academy, or will the MC and each RO be wearing an outfit that's representitive of the House/Coven they belong to?
Aurelian Academy has quite a bit of funding— partially from the families that have children attending, from House Aurelia, and from various other pursuits. Clarissa, along with a few other staff members, take stock of how many vampires will be attending Aurelian in the coming year and have enough supplies allocated accordingly. There are also vendors that come to Aurelian and sell various goods; like blood lollipops, blood infused tea, and various other things. So a vampire wouldn’t have any worry of running out (and if it ever truly got dire, which would mean even bigger problems than simply running out of blood if Aurelian got to that state, there’s always Avalon too).
There isn’t a dress code exactly— students are just expected to be dressed appropriately when it comes to a learning establishment as a whole. There are specific jackets that some classes will have you wear to distinguish you from the other (like charmer classes have silk jackets), and only heirs get a specialized jacket that distinguishes them from other people. Though that’s typically only when an event, such as the one that’s happening this year, occurs where knowing someone’s social standing needs to be apparent.

do you think rose dismantling the system would have been a better ending? that’s quite complicated to write and keep at a YA level…
Yes, Rose dismantling the Dhampir system, or at the very least seeing a singular concrete change in the system, absolutely would have been a better ending for Vampire Academy than the half baked, out of no were murder mystery that we got in The Last Sacrifice. As much as I love VA the end was so, so disappointing to me. It felt rushed. Hell I remember going What the fuck even was the "last sacrifice"? Nothing was lost. Frankly, besides Lissa being queen and the bond being broken, everything was pretty much exactly the same as the start of the story. It honestly felt like Richelle had given up on the story she had been building.
From the very first book we establish just how poorly the Dhampirs are treated by the Moroi. The Moroi literally only believe they should exist as assets to them, and the Dhampirs are so desperate to not die off they buy into this narrative. Think about how easily Viktor exploited Rose, a child he'd known her entire life, as a means to an end. Despite the Moroi being fully capable of protecting themselves with their MAGICAL POWERS, Tasha and Christian are considered freaks for even suggesting it. Most Dhampirs are born from a Dhampir mother not a father. The Moroi women won't lower themselves by having a Dhampir baby, but Moroi men will use the Dhampir women as a sexual outlet. The Moroi don't respect the Dhampir. Hell even Rose and Lissa's relationship highlights just how unfair this dynamic is. Rose lived her life for Lissa. She was her protector, her confidant, her food source. Shit Rose even took the insanity from Lissa. What did she get in return from Lissa? (Yes I know Lissa resurrected Rose this is just to highlight the grander Moroi issue) The series spent 5 books highlighting the injustices Dhampirs face. How they die young, how their women are systematically abused, and the lack of freedom to do what they want in life without shame. This isn't subtext these are active conversations, and arch's through the story. Then they have the age law passed, and you see how, universally, Dhampirs are against it. I honestly thought when Rose was framed for Tatianna's murder it was going to be a catalyst for the Dhampirs to start acting out, to push back against this system. Yet the Dhampirs are sidelined to focus on the family laws for Royal Moroi????? It was truly ridiculous. We don't even see change in Bloodlines, just small references that focus on the Moroi council. Rose was exploited by the Moroi in literally every single way imaginable, and the books were building to her realizing the problem with it. Yet, it's all ignored for her to focus all her energy on making sure Lissa was elected queen. (Yea, she was spurred on by trying to stop the age law, but it really came back to the fact Rose viewed Lissa like a deity) The story set up a revolutionary change for the Dhampirs, but it was cut because Richelle couldn't commit to acknowledging how all Moroi, especially Lissa, were flawed when it came to the Dhampirs.
Also onto your second point, that it would be too complicated for a YA novel. Richelle didn't shy away from other really heavy, complicated topics. Bloodlines is literally focused on indoctrination, and cult deconstruction. The latter half of Blood Promise is an allegory for intimate partner abuse. Also remember that The Hunger Games are YA novels. Avatar the Last Airbender is a children's show. Media being for a younger audience does not mean it cannot cover and deal with complex, and dark topics.
Thank you lots for this question! It was fun to respond to - Missy :)

fandom of your choice!
i’ve got two for two different fandoms lol
Vampire Academy - canon-compliant, post-Bloodlines, pre-epilogue
The day Dimitri had planned to propose to Rose was also the first day he ever requested off from Christian. He took it, too, and not because they were celebrating their engagement all day long as he’d planned. Before he could get down on one knee, Rose stopped him, insisting that she was too young to get engaged.
Which is how Dimitri found himself in the company of the Russian barman at the 24/7 Court bar in the middle of the day, wondering how the girl who’d saved his soul wasn’t ready to commit to him. For another thing, as his hangover crept up on him, he was now dreading a return to the nocturnal schedule after his blissful, drunken reprieve. And things got worse when, at seven in the evening, who walked in but the poster boy for a perfect married home life?
Adrian Ivashkov had stopped by his old stomping grounds in search of some liquid courage before the first meeting with his father since announcing his marriage to Sydney. He felt the circumstances warranted a drink, and, living on a human daylight schedule, the hour was acceptable, even. He did not expect to see the man whose picture could be found beside the dictionary definition of self-control in a blubbering, Russian puddle at the end of the bar.
Could an evening drink with his former rival for Rose’s affections be exactly what Dimitri and Adrian needed to get their heads on straight?
The Hunger Games - modern au
The night Glimmer breaks up with Peeta is also the first night he’s ever taken his best friend Finnick up on his offer to go clubbing. If he’s honest, the love hadn’t been there for a long time. But there was something about his high school sweetheart (perhaps his mother’s approval?) that felt safe, habitual, and he hadn’t been prepared to let that go.
Now, faced with no reason to stay in control, he decides to go out with Finnick. He’s hoping maybe, just maybe, the alcohol will give him the courage he needs to make a move on his best friend, who he’s harbored a crush on since the minute they met. But when he spots Finnick in the VIP section locking lips with a beautiful redhead, he takes the shot that makes the world go dark.
The next morning, Peeta wakes up on a sticky floor under a couch to someone prodding him with a broomstick. After bumping his head, he looks up into the most beautiful grey eyes he’s ever seen. As he follows the scowling, striking woman to the bar for a pick-me-up, he can’t help but wonder…had all the heartbreak been worth it?

Fourth row: They did nothing wrong (dead serious) ... I don't like them, but I see the appeal ... I hate you, but I love you, but I hate you, but I- ... They're literally me and that's concerning ... I like them, but I understand why people don't
Bottom row: *insert 5hr long speech about why they're really not that bad* ... If I have to hear one more person obsessing over them, I'm gonna start stabbing ...
