VALORANT AGENT REVEAL: // TEMPER //
Bursting with rage, Spanish duelist Temper wields a blade made of molten radianite that he forged from a relic blade guarded by his family. Effortlessly cutting through defenses and engaging with his brutal swordsmanship, few can survive the ferocity he brings in battle.
Official description
This project has taken me about a year and has been developed slowly. A special thank you to @darthladyofillusions for helping with the design process. More details can be found below.
// AGENT INFORMATION //
Temper is an OC that took about a year to fully make and has been teased in between the Valorant Headcanons I have been writing. He was born into a family of blacksmiths located in Toledo, Spain and didn’t know that his family had watched over a slumbering radivore called ‘La Tarasca.’ When Kingdom offered him entrance into their materials research program, he sold the land not knowing REALM and Kingdom wanted to excavate. Upon realizing the trickery, he engaged REALM and Cpt. Greaves before detonation charges went off and destroyed the legendary blade, Solar. La Tarasca was free and started a rampage, heading towards towns and cities. Temper moved quickly and reforged the blade, adding additional touches of his own. Valorant attempted to stop the beast, but nothing could wound it permanently. Temper valiantly fought the towering monster, and managed to work with Valorant to restrain the creature. With one final attack, Temper drove his blade into La Tarasca’s core and obliterated it, charred flesh and embers disintegrating into the air. As the sun began to rise, Temper began to leave and continue his vendetta but was instead asked to join Valorant. Seeing that they needed him, and he would likely need them, he graciously accepted the offer.
// PERSONALITY //
His personality is naturally loud and amicable, but most agents know he is but a word away from yelling or ranting. Temper’s name is fitting, considering he certainly has one. Whereas Phoenix might be quietly angered, Temper sets the building on fire with his destructiveness. His explosive flashes of anger are typical, but they usually help in the heat of combat. He isn’t reckless though, taking more direct routes instead of just reacting. He is also brave, facing down impossible odds and standing up for his team with no hesitation. Even Fade has trouble with his mind.
// ABILITIES //
The sword he wields, Erupción, is named as such because it is a reference to solar flares. His sword has temperatures that approximate the sun, and readings indicate the radiant energy it uses behave like solar plasma. The actual blade is an alloy of steel and radianite, and is continually at a molten state. Temper is bound to it in some way despite it being a Relic that was remade, hinting that he might be able to make other Relics if given the chance. It emits waves of energy when swung, and can even be used to create a molten arena where most weapons melt into slag. It also can warp energy from radiant sources, allowing him to deflect energy and shut down specific powers.

Translated my smol🤏🤏 fearanoia fan work, thanks to my new bro, here's a smaller part of it:
It had been about a few weeks since Hazal was accepted into the Protocol, not even a full month. Her phone buzzed, and her eyes slowly cracked open. Another usual day for the Protocol VALORANT began as she gazed into pitch black. Darkness reigned habitually in her room, as did the cat from her native streets that rested quietly near her work desk. The laptop screen was still on, slightly illuminating her progress, a little cluster of empty coffee mugs. Her cell phone buzzed again. If only it hadn't been for that couple of lines in her messages...
Usually Fade tries to kill time by reading books or exercising with her pet, trying not to fall back into lingering thoughts. This time it would be worthless.
Sitting on the edge of the bed, the girl nervously reread the contents. She would have taken anything else, from "Tomorrow morning at five o'clock", "You're expected at Sage's," or at least "Come by Brimstone's office as soon as you can". Alas, the text remained unchanged, which was not the case with the tension in the room.
“You wouldn't go wrong with the choice, would you? You won't, right?” The voice echoing her darkest thoughts wouldn't be able to get away from her this evening. The quiet hiss in her temples aches with a pain not yet too great.
“Do you realize why he wants to see you? Do you remember what you saw in his head? Your power is being used, wake up!” Nightmare started emphasizing pronouns, trying to get 'its' point across.
“I can try to find out, especially since I have to go back in there…” She hushed, she began scrolling through other agent's scraps of memories.
“You think you can just walk away if anything happens? Don't be so naive!”
The noises and tingles in my head were getting worse.
“And what are you hoping for? Didn't you have a goal when you joined the team? Maybe you did lose your memory too?”
Hazal shuddered, her mind already on her past. With her legs tucked under her they bent even more, it was as if she was trying to hide, to be invisible. The relative silence didn't last long.
“Do you remember him? All the things you did together, the times, the moments. Isn't that why I am with you? And the Protocol? What do you need it for?"
Falling onto the pillow behind her, the girl curled up like her cat. She squeezed her eyes shut trying to distract herself by counting to a hundred as Sage had suggested earlier, but Fade only became more convinced of her interlocutor's insistence.
“Wasn't that a betrayal? So much effort, searching, is it meaningless?”
Check the whole work (I appreciate crit):

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon
So, here we are. It's been over three years since the last PMD game, and almost 8 since the last one that wasn't a remake. Where does this leave us? Will we ever get another new PMD game? I don't know. Personally? I have hope that the series isn't dead. That one day, we will get another. But I can't say for certain. But even if this is the end…what a legacy PMD has left us with. Five lovely games, each with their own story to tell, their own joys to be had. Sure, some may be better than others, but they all carry the spirit of PMD within them. Rescue Team is a story about finding yourself in a foreign world, of finding home in the unlikeliest of places, of how even when the rest of the world is against you, you'll always have some people who believe in you. Explorers is a story about overcoming impossible odds, of staying true to oneself, of shining bright at world's end, of how if your legacy is still remembered, in a way, you'll still be alive. Adventure Squad is a story of finding joy in the little things, of how even simple acts of kindness can turn around the hearts of a whole village. Gates to Infinity is a story about holding onto hope even in the most desperate circumstances, of friendships that never truly die, of kindness begetting more kindness, of changing the world for the better, one step at a time. Super is a story of learning who you truly are, what makes you yourself, of how negativity is a necessary part of life, of globe-spanning friendships, of entrusted hope, of how you can do amazing things, of how it's ok to need help. Each one has its own, unique take on PMD. Each one has its own themes, its own joys it wants to share. Each one complements the rest, and all together? They make something truly wonderful. While it's possible that PMD might never return, that attatchement we have to it? That love we have for our partners? That joy we have when we remember our favorite moments from it? That will never truly fade. It might be buried, might be forgotten, but it will never truly die. It will always be there, waiting to return. In a way, PMD will never end. Like Special Episode 5 of Explorers teaches us, if our legacy is remembered, then we're still alive, in a way. Our spirit still shines bright, still affecting others. As long as we continue to cherish PMD, it will never die. I'm crying so hard as I type this all. I love PMD. I love it with all my heart. I think a good way to show why PMD will never truly die is to take a look at the fanworks made for it. There are hundreds, if not thousands of fanworks created about PMD. Comics, fanfics, askblogs, and more, all telling their own stories about PMD. All created because of love for PMD. Silver Resistance. Victory Fire. Hands of Creation. Warped Skies. Quenched Torch. Legends Legacy. Shatter. Daily Life in Pokemon Paradise. Flake-N-Rudy. Askanotslownotking. Free Fiction. The Dreamstone. Places We Call Home. Galaxies Above. On Borrowed Time. Fledglings. Liberators of Fate. Sierra 10. Flowerbeds. Irau's Journal. Psychic Sheep. Zero the Hero. Path of Valor. Even those of us who aren't telling full stories, those of us who make fanart, those of us who make fanmusic and remixes, those of us who just gush about PMD. We're all keeping PMD alive. To everyone who has ever made any sort of PMD fanwork, discussed their love for the series, or even just recommended it to a friend. To anyone who has ever helped keep PMD alive. Thank you. Even if we never get a new PMD game, it will never truly die, as long as we continue to cherish it. Thank you all so much.
I have my own PMD fanworks, if anyone wishes to check them out.
Eternal Shadows, a PMD story taking place post-Super, about a human-turned-Oshawott who wishes to return home.
In Tandem, a hybrid PMD and trainerfic, about a PMD Tropius who wishes to become a trainer in the human world.
Then, Then, and Now, a hybrid Rescue Team and Legends Arceus story, of a protagonist who goes through both.
A Comprehensive Guide to Items, a guide to items in the PMD world, and how they work, written in-universe by the Rescue Team partner.
A Way to Reunite, a Gates to Infinity oneshot, about an alternate epilogue if the Worldcore didn't exist.
Day of Heroes, a oneshot celebrating the four main PMD games. The protagonists and partners of each game celebrate a holiday dedicated to them, together.
I also have a variety of PMD askblogs.
@ask-team-searchlights is an askblog for the cast of Eternal Shadows, and @ask-world-savers-council is an askblog for the cast of Day of Heroes. And @adventuresquadharvest is a new askblog I started today, for giving love for Adventure Squad.
If you decide to check out any of these, I hope you enjoy.
I'm also always available to chat about PMD! I have a bunch of headcanons and worldbuilding about the series that I'd love to talk about more! Feel free to either approach me in DMs, ask me on this blog, or contact me on Discord! My username there is ifbench, same as here.
I hope you've all enjoyed my PMD rambles. Thank you for listening.

There is no useful way to categorize generative AI as stealing that doesn't also categorize essentially every creative work ever made as stealing.
Further, there is no way to develop generative AI which does practical things, like translation and protein folding, without developing generative AI which does literally anything else, because protein folding, translation, and making a creative work are functionally the same process from a programming perspective, and programmers tend to like open source things.
These things are pretty well established, but also seem to routinely be ignored. So why? Well, I have some speculation about why people might be wrong on the internet. A number of these things may be true in any individual of course.
They just don't know these things to be true, despite them being true, because they haven't heard them yet.
They have heard them but don't believe them, because it would be convenient if these things were not true (because they also have one of the later reasons too)
It's part of an ideological package deal they picked up somewhere, picking up some components of the ideology means they must pick up the others, and part of the highly online progressive ideological package is "anything made by a programmer that attracts media attention must necessarily be bad"
Everyone wants to be an artist, but they see potential competition. Thus, the competition must be defamed. It is also socially acceptable to lie, exaggerate, or generally wildly speculate about machines, so absurd easily disprovable claims get repeated.
People remember how much fun it was to bully cryptocurrency people, because they were a relatively small community that clearly signposted themselves, skewed ideologically right-libertarian (an extremely rare ideology in the real world and thus a desirable target), and defined themselves around a product that made very little financial sense and was impractical for basically everything (and was made by and for goldbugs but that's beside the point). They then assume, partially because of option 3, that anything that programmers make must necessarily make little financial sense and be impractical for basically everything, even when this is not true, and then assume therefore bullying Generative AI people might also be fun, because "they're basically the same thing"
Having enemies is fun in general, and a decently insulated mid-sized community has decided AI people are an ideologically acceptable enemy to have, so if you're going to have an enemy, why not have them as the enemy?
Valorization of certain forms of labor over others. (why is the corporate artist more important to defend than the auto worker who got automated out of a job earlier?)
Desperation for there to be something humans are better at than a sufficiently well-programmed computer, they already dominate board games and repetitive industrial tasks, and now they're coming for slightly less repetitive tasks, and if we don't have slightly less repetitive tasks, what do we have?
Fear of SEO spam and people using AI to lie on the internet (this is a particularly weird one because we already have SEO spam and it's comically easy to trick people on the internet, and it's doubtful generative AI would make either of these problems worse. I've seen people reblog the most obviously fake things like they're real! Using AI to lie on the internet would be like trying to kill an ant with a nuclear bomb, it might work, but also you could just lie about someone pretty directly or create a fake post that you claim is from an opponent and then mock them for it, and basically no one is going to check it. This particular moral panic is actually recycled from when photoshop was new)
Maybe they just genuinely do want more restrictive copyright law that allows companies to maintain very close control over their IP? I have seen this take in the wild but not so much in my tumblr circles, generally it's something about "fanworks butcher the source material and parodies are often lazy or shallow, therefore IP should be more restrictive to prevent those things from happening."
They don't like generative AI for some other reason (they're an educator and got handed a generated essay and had to grade it, they blame it for contributing to the continued decline in quality of search engines, they dislike how companies keep trying to make A Virtual Assistant Like From The Movies a thing and don't fully remember that this "we're going to make virtual assistants a thing" has been going on since at least Clippy and probably way longer) and then generalize their dislike to every aspect, because one aspect annoys them but they don't feel that's justification enough to be angry about it.
Anyway that's my speculation. Maybe there's other reasons why people keep making incorrect statements too, but I can't think of any that wouldn't be covered by these points right now.

Fanwork creators self rec! When you get this, reply with your three best and/or favorite fanarts/fanfics/moodboards/whatever that you've made, then pass on to others. No self-deprecation allowed! Let's get this self-love going ON!
Aww I love this!
I’m going to choose one Viktor x reader, one Levihan, and one Jinxtor
Viktor x reader: definitely For A Sweet New Year (linked on my master list; I’m on mobile rn) it’s a NSFW oneshot that I had so much fun writing and a little nod to Rosh Hashanah
Levihan: A Woman of Valor (I Gave my Heart To):
This one is again, deeply Jewish, a Fiddler on the Roof style arranged marriage set in a Polish Jewish shtetl in 1911. Still in progress; close to my heart
Jinx and Viktor: definitely my Rehab AU series
This is a modern AU where the age gap between Jinx and Viktor is quite minimal (as I prefer; I ship the Jinxtor ship because I like the potential dynamic between the two but I don’t rlly enjoy age gap relationships so I change their ages a lot) and it centers around Jinx and Viktor meeting in drug rehab and their recovery and developing relationship. Some smut and obvious mentioned drug use.

6, 8, 13, 17 for FE :D
which ship fans are the most annoying?
ooh there are a lot of different ones I could put on blast, but most of my complaints boil down to the same point, ones that are just obsessed with stats like how many fic for the ship are on Ao3, it is a really cold and calculating way to look at fandom and often tends to not actually help or support the writers are artists who actually make the fanworks they want
Also like as someone who got used to fandoms where there might not been any fic period, seeing someone from a large fandom complain about only having 100 works or not evening breaking 500 just makes me want to complain about kids these days so badly
common fandom opinion that everyone is wrong about
Slow burn and similarly mutual pining is far from the end all be all of romance tropes and more often than not they are artificially lengthened for drama
Like there are plenty of problems that can emerge even after a couple gets together and to me that is the like interesting stuff, actually seeing characters have to grapple with the question of how to love someone not just if they do.
I have grown to appreciate it a bit more since one of my fic has started to slow down a lot more, but like it is best utilized if the characters have a long history where seeing that level of detail is necessary or if there are a bunch of hurdles that would necessitate it taking a long time to actually hook up
worst blorboficiation
Listen I still do not forgive the Three Houses fans who started making AUs where all the popular pretty boys instead got the two crest experimentation done on them when Edelgard and Lysithea were both right there, like you had options, you could hate one and still have someone you could do all the medical horror experimentation whump with
Like I try not to get into stolen valor debates about fandom bc it can be pretty vague and ineffective but like these were characters with plenty of tragic backstories you could lean on, why do they need to have all the tragic backstories available, it just seemed like the worst example of favoring your special little guy over characters that actually have the traits you desire
there should be more of this type of fic/art
I consistently in exchanges ask for Lima/Liprica stuff bc like to have that skeleton in the back of your standard FE heroine's closet made my jaw drop. In general Zofia is a lot more interesting than ppl give it credit for, bc for the "good peace loving nation" it is like probably far more corrupt than Rigel. For Lima to get away with just kidnapping a priestess of Mila says a lot about the social environment and I think fic that really dived into the messy elements of such a ecosystem could be fascinating
Also I think ideal Micaiah fanart either has her looking like a Catholic saint, all otherworldly and holy, or looking like she hasn't slept in a week and is about to snap. Like I do think she is supposed to catch you by surprise with her cute anime girl exterior but I'd like to see more of that in-game charisma and mess show up
#seasalt talks#thanks for the ask!!#realized some of these weren't very specific to FE but tried to keep it relatable

seeing the anon who said the inniters dipped and became quackbur shippers and.... MAN i was one of the OG c!quackbur shippers like literally there in the frontlines before the burger arc was underway and all the inniters and sbi fans were at our throats crying about fake boundaries that they made up. and to see them making that space so hostile that i cant participate anymore even tho i made some of the early fanworks in 2021..... arghh it's a really shitty feeling :((((
THE STOLEN VALOR!!! I'm so sorry nonnie you were on the front freaking lines 💔 we really do live in a post shipping boundaries world huh

Ah yes - the antis
Ideas spread there wherein if a character as ever been a minor, sexualizing them is simply a way to 'skirt around' their age. The concept of "Nakama" - found family, basically - is warped to be analogous to actual family and thus relationships between them are Incest, and this concept is applied even if the work itself isn't getting at even the baseline. And you see other patterns as well - an idea for art to be amoral is fabricated, and then pressure is asserted against it. Of course, this makes very little sense - but the point is pretty far off from logic, it's ultimately about cultivating a moral reason to get mad at art - rationality and consideration are less important. I think "Anti" culture is not about expression or fandom or any of these traditional ideas, but about a Community which supports you... And, I think a lot of antis are a bit reactionary - they read disgust at a pairing as something very rational which they need to oppose. But it's easy to think these types are simply misinformed and sorta reactionary. That may lead you to Anti communities. But like... I think it's more like a cult. See, these communities cultivate a strongly moralist outlook - certain media is bad and corruptive, questioning that means you are a dangerous person, and the only way to be a good person is to walk in-line with these opinions. They sorta form these communities where you need to fall in line with what the group deems appropriate, or you will face social ostracization. They will say things like, "You should think of your reputation" or collectively shun people who question the group values. There is a sense where you need to be outwardly displaying your disgust with media, or are suspicious Obviously, it's all very cult-like... And, so too, they will use language of mockery to dismiss that if you bring that up - Things like "Excuse me? You're a freak. We're just normal people, and it's you who's abnormal for defending things like this." And that is sorta to keep you in-line and to mock the out-group. It's a form of shunning. The ideas of outrage over what people are doing is used to bond, instead of your interests or hobbies. Antis have a tendency to share activities and fanworks they are opposed to with one another - even if they have convinced themselves that kind of content is unethical or illegal - with the intent of community opposition and public shaming of the people making it. ...I think that's why people act like that. Why they make these really vocal oppositions and harassment campaigns over characters who may once have been underage in-universe five games ago. It's because their community says they should be doing this - it's about a shared goal and bond. People fall into the ideas of the Anti because at a glance it looks like positive community. These aren't traditional cults; they aren't weird religions and they don't tend to have bold leaders. But what they are, really, is groups of people who communicate in fandom circles and who at a glance seem... Progressive, anti-racist, and supportive of your creativity. For people in environments where they may not get that - young teens questioning sexuality, people with unsupportive familites - a friend group like that is inherently appealing. For many it is, of course, and there are many online friendships found through fandom which are obviously very emboldening ...It's just that sometimes you end up in this area. Where you have gotten to the point where this community's shared values warp into an online cult, and where harassing and attacking people is seen as valorous and sort of a bonding exercise. Most people in fandoms just see the periphery, and it's like... "Man, what's up with all these people making up reasons to get mad?"
not a narumayo shipper but i believe in their beliefs

Various Horde Clone names I've done for my fanwork.
So, seeing something about clone-oc names, and how it is likely that they'll name themselves for random things. I've named a sizeable flock of my own. While a lot of my clones are one-off for a particular story and I have relatively few recurrents, I have come up with interesting names. Recurrent: Robin - named himself for the bird, also a common human name. Jerome - a common human name, he liked the way it sounded. (In meta: inspired by an old ghost-town / mining town in Arizona). Robin and Jerome took the additional, surname of "Reaper" and later became known as the Reaper Brothers due to their profession of naming and claiming the clone war-dead / general undertaker work. Wander - an adventerous type. (In meta, inspired by a video game character-name). Vigilance - a strong clone who is protective of his friends. Phoenix - a clone that Vig saved. Rather slight-bodied as he suffered a lot of injuries in the war and his body never corrected out. Hordak Origin-story clones: Hordak (special note on the canon-character). - In my story, I decided that "Horda-aku" meant "Horde-sinner." Basically a derivative of "Sinner" became his name. Valor - an especially brave Brother with good military prowess. Stern - a rival to Hordak, an asshole. Named by Scorpion-people, not himself. Silence - a clone with damage to his throat, courtesy of being too willful around Prime. Cannot speak until he gets a copy-voice-box installed, in foreshadow to Imp. Scout - a good scout. Lin, Zel, Gan - Scorpions named them for a legend. Stupid video game reference. Bereft - a clone that grieves his fallen brothers a lot / has an "overage of emotion." Deep-feeling, to his detriment. There are others, but those are some of the more interesting names. One-off story clones: 1999, or "Niner." - Appeared in one of my short off-canon Entrapdak stories. He's a space-trucker. His proper name is is serial number, HK-1999, which he never exchanged for a name. People nickname him "Niner" sometimes, but he dislikes it. Not a law-abider, though, an utter rogue. Honey - A very young and childlike clone adopted by a loving family. They didn't know what to call him, so they called him "honey" a lot. He also developed a passion for the food of honey. - Sadly a victim of murder. Nova - the first clone that Robin and Jerome named posthumously as part of their funeral services. He loved the stars and got excited over seeing novas and supernovas. There are others, these are just some of the more interesting names I've come up with for these "mooks in canon / let's have fun with them in fanwork" beautiful beings.

last week i received an ask concerned about my claims about the orientalism in the franchise so i spent a while thinking about it / looking into it and am going to elaborate in case that can clarify what my stance is. i do understand that stopping at "don't draw people in belly dance attire" is shallow and can lack understanding of when or how it is issue versus when it's not.
here is every playable dancer in cotc with a belly dancer outfit:
here are their skin tones:
since i had already read several articles on orientalism and the history of belly dancing, i decided to look through posts about genshin's portrayals in sumeru and natlan for reference of a gacha game with similar racism issues. colorism is the most obvious one with the playable characters being mostly pale despite their setting being intended as west asian. both are also much more willing to have npcs with dark skin tones than playables.
i think if anything what i overlooked was that the bigger issue with the prevalence of the belly dancer costume isn't whether or not it is accurate but that it's intended to communicate certain things about the character that are based on orientalist stereotypes. primrose is heavily sexualized by the game. now, i think the writing about her being a sex worker is on its own pretty good, but you are supposed to find her attractive, and her visual design uses the belly dancer attire to communicate this. in cotc, most sex worker npcs (the brothel in valore) use the belly dancer sprites.
in primrose's chapter 2, rufus has women as his escorts in belly dancer outfits, when dancing is not mentioned as something any of the women in the stillsnow brothel do, only sex work.
and most fanwork i have seen around the other ot1 travelers* in the dancer subjob are about them being attractive. being in the outfit sexualizes them by default. (*except tressa, thankfully i haven't seen that.)
this reinforces the stereotype that belly dancing is primarily sexual when it was not historically. there were professional belly dancers who performed it as sex work, but the idea that the outfit is seductive has overpowered its casual and non-sexually intimate practices. additionally, i think one of the most incriminating things against how practically half the cotc dancers look like this is that it's like they dont know or care that other arab dances exist. there are so many interesting west asian, arab, and/or indigenous dances that could be represented by sunlands characters. yet most portrayals of west asia default to this outfit because it is all they know for "appealing "exotic" character" and they do not care about actually representing the people as much as they do selling the characters.
i believe primrose being announced for a figure during the 5th anniversary stream first despite cyrus and therion being polled as the most popular ot1 protagonists is fanservice. i also believe that h'aanit being the one to be given the dancer ex subclass unit despite her being canonically bad at dancing is fanservice (so far 5 of the female protagonists of ot1 and 2 have subclass units while the men have none). this is based on the misconception much of the gaming industry still has that their demographic consists of mostly [straight] men. this is usage of the way belly dancer attire has sexual appeal to non-arab audiences to make money.
now, i will step back on using redesigns of the dancer outfits as mandatory to not be orientalist, which is something my original post implied. however, i still believe it is important to think about what your intention of drawing a character in a belly dancing outfit is. is it to show them enjoying the act of dance and bonding with primrose or others, or is it just a "sexy outfit" to put them in? there are plenty of outfits intended solely to be sexy out there that aren't connected to the sexualization of cultural practices.
thank you very much to @lesblep for using their experience reading books and writing essays on orientalism to help me make sure my claims are at least based on facts. i have also found several book recommendations that i'll see if my campus library or very legal sites have. and again, if anyone wants to talk to me about any of this, including disagreeing with anything i say, i'm very open to it.
issues w/ the octopath fandom, racism, and ableism
whats from the source
octopath does some racist bs quite frequently.
the belly dancer stereotype is pervasive in a lot of media, especially the fantasy genre.
cotc (the mobile gacha) has even more of it, and an entire storyline filled with anti-indigenous and racist tropes.
the mainline octopath games have yet to design a traveler with curly hair, and frequently whitewashes the tan and dark-skinned characters in official artwork (compare these with the real ones; here's partitios official cotc splash art). ochette's hair especially is straight-as-a-ruler and silver. also worth considering eye colors. partitio is sad because his concept art had only one design where he's white and a couple even had dreadlocks, and yet his splash art refuses to match his sprite colors.
the beastlings... i'm white and have done more research on the tropes in cotc since i play it more, so while i did have thoughts of my own while playing, here is a better post i found that lists off all the bad choices about them.
also worth mentioning kaldena. one of the few dark-skinned characters in the game is a villain (and also has straight silver hair). other people have also broken down what choices in temenos' story around this were bad better than i could. i can't find a post with a quick search so if you want to reblog this to talk about it i will reblog/link it.
ableism. while i am a big fan of the autism-coding in the franchise, it's still true that there are a lot of jokes made in the games at the expense of osvald and cyrus (moreso cyrus). it's setting accurate for people to be mean to autistic people, but you're still supposed to laugh at "i guess cyrus isn't actually that smart!" which pushes the idea that autism affects intelligence and maturity. i think overall the autism representation is great (pspsps my essay) but it's definitely the source of some awful shit i've had to read people say about cyrus and osvald.
edit 1: friend reminded me of something i forgot that i only learned after talking to it about it a while ago: therion's story is actually really really weird in how it tries to frame cornelia and especially heathcote as helping therion when what they did is enslave him.
whats from the fandom
fanart whitewashing. there is a lot of fanart of therion and partitio with pale skin tones. there is fanart of olberic and ochette with significantly lighter/barely tan skin tones. i'm not going to find any to link because harassment and arguing is not the point of this post, but if you've looked through fanart you've seen it.
here's their skin tones blended. even with the highlights included, they're not white. i get it, their splash art is very ambiguous from the colorism, so if you weren't using the sprites: here's your new references.
ignorance of the orientalism. fanart of primrose in the same inaccurate belly dancer outfit. fanart of the other travelers in their canon belly dancer outfits (*i have done this before. again, this post is about conversation). there are some amazing redesigns of the ot1 dancer outfits out there and they're worth learning.
dancer therion redesign by lev, the redesigns for all 8 that i loved is unfortunately deleted so here's my art of therion based on it, primrose redesign, another alt. primrose outfit
ableism directed at cyrus and osvald. i've seen people complain about osvald's personality writing and then cite ptsd and autism symptoms, so many people call cyrus stupid, an idiot, or imply he is not mature. people assume/default hc that he is bad at adult activies. he is a thirty year old professor. it is his job to be mature, good with children, smart, etc. this is infantalization of an autistic character. it's a default assumption that the autistic man is below-average at adult functions.
infantalization of ochette. there are hcs and portrayals of ochette to be far less responsible and mature than she is in canon. she is the protector of her island, it is a theme of her story that she was forced to grow up more mature than everyone else. yes, she is funny, cheerful, energetic, but some fandom portrayals of her reduce her to just that, like she's a puppy. always being irresponsible, impulsive, etc. this matches to her dynamic with castti going from the sweet found family of their crossed path into "castti is the mother who needs to rein in this wild child"- and also consider how it looks to portray the only (consistently portrayed as) dark-skinned character as wild when she is responsible and mature in her story. similarly to cyrus, people tend to default to hcs that she would be bad at normal adult activities just because she has 'childish' traits.
what do you want me to do about it
eyedrop skintones from sprites or go darker for the guys who aren't white. consider changing their hair up, like using the concept art design for partitio. drawing characters of color differently from canon doesn't solve the racism in the game industry, but it is good practice for drawing poc and representing them more accurately.
don't... insult the autistic characters. there are things cyrus is canonically bad at that have nothing to do with his autism, like singing, but don't act like he's bad at everything that's not part of his interests. real people act how osvald does due to trauma. neither of them are two-dimensional in personality, they're written with nuance and a range of emotions outside of Being Autistic.
respect ochette more. are you portraying her as only silly or the savior of her home, or both? would someone who hasn't played ot2 know that ochette has overcome challenges based on your portrayal of her, or would they think she's a comedy relief?
this is the hard ask /j. i want you to learn about racism. i have a couple short essays on cotc's orientalism and racism. they might not be directly relevant to you if you don't play cotc, but learning about what kind of racist tropes are common in media and games helps a lot with recognizing it in other places, like the beastlings or kaldena. and most of all, learning about racist stereotypes and tropes makes you less likely to perpetuate them unintentionally.
putting the cotc racism essay down here so i can say that it has spoilers for Bestower of Power if you're a cotc player. it's different from the post i linked at the start; way more focused on just the anti-indig stereotypes in the villain's design.
the last thing i want to say is oh my god i love talking about this stuff so much. if you are confused about ANYTHING i talked about or want to talk about it more, or add your own experiences, or ask for recommendations, i love that shit. i made this because i believe most people who are really active in this fandom don't do this kind of stuff maliciously, and would benefit from just having a chance to talk about it. for some reason i am very into explaining/taking apart bigoted language, where it comes from, what it means etc. Please
