I’ll be honest my least favorite character in dragons dogma isn’t the 40000th goblin or the drake that’s killed me AGAIN or the guy thats plotting and it’s not the duke or grigori it’s fucking aelinore.

I’m serious she grinds my gears so bad she is i think the ONLY character i dislike, including the non-official romances like random townies. Or the goddamn dragon. Or the bosses that keep killing me. You’re nice to her one time and max out her annoying ass’s affinity and i can’t even ignore her because i want/need the stuff from her quests.

the thing is she probably isn’t that bad of a character, really, but I’m blinded by irritation at gameplay and her being like… the default beloved unless you just ignore her existence entirely, it feels. I know logically she isn’t this bad. And yet. I hope grigori fucking eats her

Summary:

Corwyn is a simple man. The local dock worker, his only desires are to hunt in the forest and play music for the handsome fishermen. That all changes when Cassardis is attacked. Whether it be from bravery or pure stupidity, Corwyn takes a stand against the monsters that would destroy his home. He sacrifices his life so that the other villagers might live. Then he wakes up from death with no heart, and he must discover what it means to be a hero.

Valmiro was late. Once again. 

Tapping his nail against the longest reed of the pan pipe in his hands, Corwyn scanned the even blue horizon for what felt like the hundredth time. Not a single sign of the rough canvas sail that would herald the arrival of the final boat of Cassardis’ fishing fleet.

Of course not.

When had Valmiro ever brought in his catch on time?

Corwyn sighed, letting his head fall back to lightly thunk against the wooden post that supported his reclining back. More than an hour had passed since Ramon had tossed Corwyn the mooring rope to lash his vessel to the dock. The fisherman had proudly boasted of calm waters and abundant shimmering schools just below the surface. His words had inspired a hope in Corwyn. A hope that maybe the fair seas would bless Valmiro with an easy catch and encourage him to return to the dock in a timely manner.

A hope that had been dashed upon the rocky breakwater some time ago. 

Heaving out another tremendous sigh, Corwyn idly blew a few notes on his pipe, the sound sharp and clear.

By all rights, he ought not be out here, baking in the sun. Already his pale skin was pinkening, despite the paste Benita had given him to prevent burns from the harsh light. His heart yearned for the cool shade of the trees overhead, leaves whispering in the midday breeze. He had planned to check his rabbit snares early in hopes of catching the thief that had been helping himself to the freshly caught meat. Corwyn suspected the culprit was one of the wolves that prowled the woods beyond Cassardis’ walls, but he needed to be sure. He was loathe to set a trap to end the thief’s stealing for good in case it was a fox that had been enjoying Corwyn’s prospective dinner. It felt wrong to kill one of the Forest God’s messengers. And besides, he felt a certain kinship with the other red-headed hunters of the forest.   

But be it fox or wolf or thrice-damned griffon, it mattered not until Valmiro dragged his lazy self back to port. Just because he seemed determined to shirk his duties didn’t mean that Corwyn would too. Corwyn had a job to do before he could run off to the forest, and the responsibility weighed heavy on his shoulders like a physical presence.

last reblog reminds me (and this is especially relevant with dragon's dogma 2 coming out soon) of the time I was playing Dragon's Dogma and accidentally romanced the wrong character. I wanted Mercedes. had her affection all maxed out and everything. but then I stupidly did Valmiro's quest before moving on to the final act

I got so mad about seeing him hang around my house so I picked him up and threw him into the ocean to feed him to the brine and thought that'd be the end of it. but.

his corpse kept respawning in my house. Like poor Selene was just hanging there with his dead body every time I'd return home

You didn't ask about this but I'm talking about it anyways... in my "10 Years Later" AU for DD1, Valmiro is now a celebrated entomologist .... But is otherwise very much still the same. He meets his future wife, Elda, bc every time they come across one another she ends up having to save him from trouble 😭
