God but it has been cathartic, hasn't it? I think everyone had some big feelings about these vampires that really needed letting out.

Daniel and Armand's first Valetine's Day together is a doozy, because what in the world do you get a vampire who has more money than god and has been around long enough he's probably gotten plenty of valentine's day cards?

Turns out flowers and a card with a hand written message are enough to make that little weirdo verklempt because yeah, Armand has gotten cards before but not ones with anything more than a signature at the bottom. He dries one of the roses, presses it into the card, and manages to keep both even up to the present day.

And then he gives Daniel his gift, in the form of a nice show of lingerie that ends with Daniel having the underwear he'd come all over and made a mess of stuffed into his mouth.

(I may be writing this whole scenario into a little v-day fic as we speak)

Lestat and Armand have developed a tradition of sending each other vinegar valentines (insulting anti-valentine cards the victorians came up with, give them a google, some are hilarious). It started as a joke after Lestat left Night Island and wanted to keep in touch the old fashioned way via the mail.

It becomes very much not a joke when Lestat finally writes on the back of one of them that he truly does love Armand no matter what they've said or done to one another over the years. The second Armand gets that one he calls Lestat on the phone and flies out to wherever in the world he is.

They get each other proper romantic cards now. But still tucked in with them is an old vinegar valentine as a joke.

Nowadays Armand has too many lovers to go on a date with them one on one. Which they're fine with. Lestat is an excellent event planner, each Valentine's Day gets more and more extravagant with overnight trips to beautiful locations and enough flowers to make a conservatory look barren.

And all of them end the same way- with Armand spread out on a lovely bed, getting quite literally every inch of him kissed and drank from until he's left weak and in a pile of his lovers. He doesn't need gifts because getting to fall asleep in the middle of them is the best gift of all.

Today marks the 5th anniversary of Zuzubaland, also known as Zuzubalândía in Brazil. For context, Zuzubaland is a Brazilian animated series created by Mariana Caltabiano. The series was based on the book Jujubalândía, published in 1997, and serves as a reboot of the children's live-action series of the same name, which premiered on April 13, 1998, making that series 25 at the time of this post. The show revolves around Zuzu, a cute little bee girl who lives in the titular world of Zuzubaland/Zuzubâlandía (in the original book, it was called Jujubalândía) along with all her friends and dreams about being a famous singer in spite of her ear-grating voice. Zuzubaland is a kingdom ruled by King Appetite where everything is made out of food, right down to the character names being puns of the food they represent (e.g. Marsha Mallow is a pun on "marshmallow"). The main antagonist is the Green Witch (or Anorexic Witch in some sources, but I would prefer to call her "Greenhilda" - a portmanteau on "green" (her skin color) and the name "Brunhilda"), who hates food, joy and Zuzu's singing and wants to destroy Zuzubaland. But the only way to break the magic of the grandmothers that protects the kingdom is to get the magic crown that King Appetite keeps under a lock and key. Garfedia is her assistant, but she isn't really malicious as she's somewhat ineffectual but kind; she has a doll she keeps every day called Kellen. Funnily enough is that this wouldn't be the first time we would see Zuzu and friends in animated form: Gui e Estopa was another animated series created by Mariana Caltabiano originally launched in 2000 as a children's website called Iguinho, with the mascot being a puppy of the same name (at least initially). He is best friends with Estopa (a dog), is in love with Croquette the beautiful, and has a rivarly with Pitiburro. A series of films were made before finally becoming a cartoon in 2009 that aired on Cartoon Network. They even have an official YouTube channel. (source: Wikipedia PT)

A crossover episode simply titled "Zuzubalândia" was released on July 20, 2016, two years before Zuzubaland premiered. Unfortunately its only available in Portuguese without subtitles (or at least the English subtitles) and I don't know much about the episode's plot other than it being a proposed pilot for Zuzubaland. But if I want to summarize this plot, it's basically Gui having a dream about going to Zuzubaland alongside Estopa. I also forgot to mention that it also had a musical in 2013, though I could only find one image of that one.

While this show, and by extension franchise, is hardly well-known in the West, it didn't stop Zuzubaland from having it's own YouTube Channel AND official English dub by none other than Bang Zoom! Entertaiment!

The English dub is not only easily my favorite EN dubs of Brazilian cartoons next to Ba Da Bean (both recorded by the same studio), but it also introduced me to the series. The cast includes Dino Andrade as Zuzu, Aleks Le as Sundae, Amber Connor as Popcorn, Zeno Robinson as Rocky, Joe J. Thomas as Hot Dog, Ryan Bartley as Marsha, and Jason Marnocha as King Appetite, but I think the best performance hands down would have to be Wendee Lee (the titular character from Haruhi Suzumiya, Konata Izumi from Lucky Star, Faye Valetine from Cowboy Bebop, Blanc/White Heart from Hyperdimension Neptunia, and Lyn and Veronica from Fire Emblem) as The Green Witch, whose loud-mouth, nasally Wicked Witch-esque voice perfectly suits her character. In fact, I first noticed this while looking at Lee's BTVA page. I was honestly shocked knowing that she has the same voice actors as Blanc and Faye. And for the cherry on top, it has an official website (albeit in Portuguese). The website includes characters pages, video clips, games, comic strips, art, online books, music etc., so at least isn't completely obscure online unlike other South American cartoons (*cough* Underdogs United *cough*). Mariana Caltabiano also has her own official website deticated to herself and her cartoons.

In conclusion, Zuzubaland is and forever will be my favorite Brazilian cartoon of the 2010s and my favorite Brazilian cartoon of all time (Ba Da Bean is a close second). another fic of da, for a valetine’s baking challenge i’m doing!

She tells him, “Valentine’s gifts don’t have to be expensive - they just have to hold meaning!”

Nash nods, absent-minded, with his head turning to watch the two women with the overly short miniskirts who are tottering about on heels in the distance.

Her head dips - she bites her lip - and she knows that he’ll understand what she means when she presents her present to him. She spends her entire afternoon preparing a Valentine’s gift for him: carefully measuring out ingredients, dashing to the store when she realises she’s missing cinnamon for the filling, reading the recipe over and over again. For most of her life, she hasn’t been much of a baker, but she’s determined not to fail now. The photos in the recipe look so appetising too; she’s all but fallen in love with the light and graceful curves of the arlettes pictured. Perhaps, she’ll keep one (or two) to try for herself. Nash surely wouldn’t miss it? When she takes the freshly-baked arlettes out of the oven, she’s delighted. They’re not exactly like the photos; they’re a bit uneven, slightly wonky, and a tad bit lighter than they were on the images she moulded them off (but she presumes that’ll go away with a dusting of icing sugar). Yet, they're a testament to hard work and what an hour slaving over one recipe can produce, and, they taste damn good too. She’s even prepared a special box to put them in. It’s heart-shaped (what else can you expect on Valentine’s day), stuffed with red tissue paper, and she’s found a slick crimson ribbon to tie it up with. Nash is going to love it, she keeps telling herself, with an excitement building up her in her throat, he’s going to be so happy. She meets up with Nash at around 9 am, on the 14th of February. Straight away, she offers him her little package - looking forward to seeing a smile on his face, anticipating his sincere thanks and him sharing the arlettes with her too. Nash slowly undoes the ribbon. He peaks inside the casket. One hand lifts one thin arlette into the air - - and then he throws the whole box in the trash.

He was telling the Gudas about his own golem invention making a new one or so... But he’s definitely surprised at the Valentine’s gift from Gudas, regardless appreciate what they did for him.

So after they left him and sometime later... Avicebron teleported/come to your room in the fucking speed of light to give the Gudas those FUCKING GOD DAMN ADORABLE golems as a return gift!

They may not be able to fight in combat... But they can act as your maid or so for daily duties!

Sáng ngày mùng hai Tết năm nay, tôi chọn một quán vắng để nhâm nhi tách cà phê đầu năm. Đang mơ màng thì một bàn tay da nhăn nheo nổi đầy gân chìa xấp vé số mời. Tôi ngước nhìn lên thì cụ già mỉm cười, nụ cười thật hiền hậu. Hỏi ra mới biết, bà cụ năm nay 76 tuổi, có ba người con trai nhưng không ai nuôi nổi (hoặc không chịu nuôi) mẹ già.

"Vợ chồng mấy đứa con tôi ngày nào cũng cãi vả, chửi bới nhau nên tôi không ở với đứa nào, tự làm tự sống chú ơi" - cụ già nói với tôi. Ngày thường tôi không mua vé số, nhưng hôm nay mua vài tờ, gọi là vừa lấy lộc, vừa ủng hộ bà cụ.

Có thể giả định rằng bà cụ tôi gặp sẽ không phải bươn chải đi bán từng tờ vé số ở tuổi gần 80 vào những ngày thường chứ đừng nói đến những ngày Tết nếu gia đình của các con cụ hoà thuận. Tất nhiên, có nhiều cặp vợ chồng hạnh phúc nhưng vẫn làm ngơ trước cuộc sống của cha mẹ già. Nhưng ta cứ nghĩ theo hướng nếu cả ba người con của cụ đều hạnh phúc hôn nhân thì chuyện lễ nghĩa, hiếu thảo với cha mẹ sẽ ít nhiều khó bị xem nhẹ.

Chuyện vợ chồng lục đục, cãi vả nhau rất có thể là do họ không có tinh thần "tương kính như tân" (tôn trọng như thuở ban đầu), sống với nhau nhưng áp đặt, muốn người bạn đời của mình phải phục tùng, luôn làm theo ý mình chẳng hạn.

Và bằng kinh nghiệm, tôi thấy rằng những cặp vợ chồng này thường không đồng điệu về tâm hồn. Có thể ví von là không cùng "pha". Nguyên nhân bắt đầu sự lệch pha là do không dành nhiều thời gian tìm hiểu nhau thật kỹ trước khi tiến tới quyết định kết hôn.

"Pha" ở đây là hoàn cảnh, xuất thân gia đình, là trình độ học vấn, là ngành nghề làm việc liên quan. "Pha" cũng là sở thích, thói quen sống, cùng là fan của một dòng nhạc, một ca sĩ, thích một món ăn hay thích một thú vui giải trí. Sở dĩ người ta gọi người phối ngẫu là bạn đời, vì ngoài ràng buộc hôn nhân, họ còn là người bạn tâm tình, chia sẻ những vui buồn, âu lo với nhau trong cuộc sống. Bạn bè lệch pha thì đã không chơi với nhau rồi, huống gì bạn đời mà lại lệch pha nhau?

Ngày nay, không hiếm những bạn trẻ sống vội, yêu cũng vội mà kết hôn cũng vội. Nhờ mạng xã hội, họ đã yêu từ cái nhìn đầu tiên, hẹn hò sau vài dòng chat, ăn trái cấm sau vài lượt đi chơi hoặc kết hôn sau vài tháng quen biết. Có thể tình yêu sét đánh là có thật. Nhưng đó chỉ là cảm xúc thoáng qua ban đầu. Còn vợ, chồng sẽ là người sống mãi cùng ta đến suốt đời. Vậy vội vàng gì mà lựa ẩu, chọn đại để sau khi cùng về một mái nhà thì thay phiên hành hạ nhau?

Khi bà cụ bán vé số rời đi, tôi nghĩ về cuộc sống của người già và hạnh phúc gia đình. Ai cũng biết, gia đình là tế bào xã hội vậy nên một xã hội văn minh bắt nguồn từ những gia đình "khoẻ mạnh". Muốn gia đình khoẻ mạnh thì vợ chồng phải đồng điệu với nhau. Một cặp vợ chồng luôn khẩu chiến, chửi bới nhau thì làm sao nghĩ đến chuyện báo hiếu cha mẹ già?

Hôm nay mùng ba Tết, cũng là lễ tình nhân Valetine, tôi nghĩ bạn trẻ nào chưa, sắp hoặc đang tính đến chuyện kết hôn nên cân nhắc kỹ. Bởi sự hoà thuận của một cặp vợ chồng sẽ ảnh hưởng đến người thân, xã hội chứ không chỉ là chuyện của mỗi cá nhân với nhau.
