I found this picture of Trimurti + Trishakti with chikna Brahma, but Maheshwar and Maheshwar ended up as the dadu dida duo instead lol
Lmao but why tf does Brahma and Brahmani looks like kids...? Like literal 7 year olds 💀
Vishnu and Vaishnavi looks like those parents that are returning from school after a complain meeting with the principal (the child would get their ass whopped now)
I think it got some symbolism with the creation, preservation and destruction or something...

The way 'feminist retellings' have become another name for multi-dimensional female characters being white-washed and reduced to misunderstood/wronged/abused woman who does conventionally evil things to protect herself/for the greater good will always make me want to hurl myself off of a cliff.
Often times, these retellings bear no respect for their original text, and simply write to be quoted on tumblr mood boards and praised by booktokers as 'subversive' and 'a new take on feminism.'
I need authors to stop writing feminist retellings until they understand that women can be
1. Evil
2. Ambitious
3. Cruel/unkind/selfish
And gender based violence against these women is not acceptable simply because of their actions. They do not need to be victims of earlier abuse, or extremely kind, or the chosen ones for violence perpetuated against them on the virtue of their gender to be condemned.

RECENT READS: “Kaikeyi" by Vaishnavi Patel
“You did the right thing," Manthara told me. "No matter what is said about you, Kaikeyi, remember that you did the right thing. You are not wicked." "Then why do I feel wicked?" I whispered. "Because those who are good question themselves. Because those who are good always wonder if there was a better way, a way that could have helped more and hurt less. That feeling is why you are good.”

2024 reads / storygraph
Goddess of the River
reimagining of the ancient Hindu epic the Mahabharata
centres the river goddess Ganga, who cares for the godlings who live along her banks and ignores humanity, until she’s cursed into the body of a mortal, to birth the godlings as children
when she returns to her god form, she’s forced to leave her last son behind as a prince, and her love for him intertwines her in mortal affairs, as he becomes involved in what will eventually become a tragic war
parenthood, duty, politics
#Goddess of the River#vaishnavi patel#aroaessidhe 2024 reads#I thought this was pretty good!#I enjoyed her as a character and the aspects of motherhood and how how it explored her being a goddess of purification/forgiveness#in how she interacted with all the humans on various sides of conflicts#but it does focus a lot on the politics and war especially in the second half which I wasn’t as interested in#(though I realise that’s the central story that’s being retold)#again I don’t really have any knowledge of the original so am just sort of taking this book as it is#if you read kaikeyi for aroaceness and were wondering about this one - you could read her as such too#though more in a she’s a river god and that’s a human thing kind of way#she has to sleep with the husband as part of her curse and mentions that it’s something she doesn’t care about; that’s it#it is also a plot point where her son has a vow of celibacy (marriage included) and she’s like#no how could he curse himself to a life of loneliness!!! which felt a little odd or at least unexamined to me#no romance#(some side character marriages/relationships are part of the plot at various points though)
