Fallout is seriously almost everything I could ever dream of or hope for out of an adaptation to my all time favourite video game series, and the game that was my gateway to gaming. It captures the soul of the games in a way that is downright astonishing at times, to the point that I felt I was playing the game at many points. Even hating Maximus felt appropriate, given how I feel about the Brotherhood of the Steel (fuck those assholes fr, fr). Titus the absolute tool, I'm over here like:

Like dear GOD the vaults were so beautifully done. If I could walk through that set I would *cry* it's so real and perfect--the furniture! the wallpaper! the appliances! the SPECIAL skills! (Lucy, girl, let's talk about your stats tho babe). Also just dying thinking of what the antis are gonna say about all the incest and laughing my ass off. They captured Vault-Tech in all it's bastard glory. The entire time I'm on the edge of my seat like omg, what's it gonna be, what's it gonna be??

And the wasteland? All the background characters and sets--chicken fucker! Barv! Dale! The water filter guy was pure fucking genius. RED ROCKET??? GORGEOUS. NEW VEGAS??? Are we gonna see HOUSE??? (though sadly without Rene Auberjonois to play him, legit heart-breaking). and DOGMEAT, MY LOVE!!!! She is the *best girl*

And don't even get me started on the food, I was about to start crying. Do you know how long I've wanted to try blamco mac n cheese or YumYum devilled eggs (my wife was like unrefrigerated eggs wtf and I'm like shut your mouth I KNOW they're delicious, I KNOW IT IN MY SOUL)? To drink a nuka cola? To try Fancy Lads Snack Cakes? And it was all there on the screen looking so real!

And the pip boys and computers!! OMG, every time someone used their pip boy, or when they pulled up the records, and the hacking scene? I was like LET ME DO THIS, I AM SO GOOD AT THIS MINIGAME PLS!!!!

Beautiful. Magnificent. Absolute Perfection, except...

WHAT THE FUCK IS WITH THE COMPHET??? From a game that was way ahead of its time with queer characters and allowing you to romance either gender regardless of player gender, and even offering perks related to being queer, and where romance isn't the focus anyway--like sure, you can woo most of your companions, but that's really only if you want to, and definitely not the point. So why shoehorn this AWFUL romance subplot into something that was truly perfect without it?? It made me distinctly unhappy at several points because it was so shoehorned and unnatural. And like, them boning? Okay, casual sex is a thing in the fallout verse. But making it this love story that made NO SENSE and wasn't developed at all, and relied on the ridiculous boy and girl make eye contact, so obviously they fall in love trope is so fucking lame. Lucy has more chemistry with Coop. She had more chemistry with HER OWN COUSIN. Come *on*.

insertdisc5's comment about Sadnesses existing previously and being more prevalent during times of strife makes me wonder if Vaugardian culture is as welcoming as it is in part because of some troubled times in its history. Maybe war, maybe famine, either way just something generated a lot of Sadnesses that started causing more trouble and after getting the immediate danger under control they started trying to figure out procedures to deal with Sadnesses and prevent them from starting in the first place--taking note of mental health issues, being welcoming to people so they don't feel isolated, etc. The Change religion definitely also plays into the open nature (when you're encouraged to Change often, why sweat how other people personally identify?) but yeah just. the Sadnesses being a phenomenon that existed even before the King just tickles my brain about how that would affect the world's history, and Vaugarde is noted as being unusually welcoming...maybe they've seen there are unpleasant consequences when people feel they have no place to go.

Okay, I will say one thing quickly before I get back to work: I'm reassured by how many people (and particularly, people with a good grasp of the situation/Togashi's writing) see an element of satire/parody in Ending D, and aren't taking it seriously.

I've felt all along that it's hard to take seriously or accept as an ending because it's so generic, unsatisfying, and un-Togashi-like, so seeing that theme over and over again in other analysis and comments about it helps reinforce that sense. Togashi himself can be very sarcastic/tongue-in-cheek in interviews and such, so I don't think it's out of character at all for him for him to drop something like this that people are going to discuss a ton, and meanwhile tantalize everyone with hints of what he's actually considering.

With how HxH constantly subverts and riffs on common shounen tropes, there's something appropriate about one of his rejected endings being a parody of a typical shounen ending, with elements that are clearly unsatisfying to people who are paying close attention to his writing.

As I said in another post, I'm also sure it's intended to generate buzz for Puzzle (Togashi Exhibition) because that just started up again very recently.

Howdy! This is a rework of a comic that I made in the late summer of last year all in one evening in a hyperfocused fugue state because I am totally normal about Trigun (and Vashwood)... Then me and the friend that gave me the Vashwood brainrot decided we were going to make our own little Vashwood zine and I definitely wanted to come back to this to see if could improve upon it. The original lives here if you want to take a peek.

I feel like I've grown a bit in a couple of months and I'm itching to draw some more Vashwood stuff for our little zine as a kind of self-indulgent project. Shout out to Lornaka and Llama for letting me pester them for critique and naturally to lotldraws for my Trigun obsession and fellow Vashwood collaborator.

just watched alien romulus and 10/10, the horror film utterly horrified me

like idk, alien has always had me more scared and squeamish than any other horror series (i say this as someone introduced to it by isolation and who has only seen alien and prometheus). but still - fantastic horror film with really good pacing.

the acting was also really great, especially the guy playing andy. the synths are always a highlight of these films and i'm glad to see this lived up to that. the actresses playing rain and kay are also fab, and genuinely it's the same across the cast. everyone was acting their pants off.

i was also nearly shocked (if not for the still my cinema used as the thumbnail for the film) that the guy who plays mal in shadow and bone was in this? i completely missed him in the trailer but he does a fantastic job. there's a moment where his character goes into shock, most of which is in the background, and it's perfect. he really got to show off his range here compared to what i remember from s&b.

i was going to say there's a few moments of fanservice and, tbh i stand by that, but apparently i missed a few references. either way, unless you're a massive alien nerd, there's probably only 2-3 things that will stick out to you. one i vaguely wasn't sure abt while watching but only because i'm faceblind so it was like "i recognise this but i don't know how". the other was clearly a reference by the delivery but kinda tracked bc it also called back to earlier dialogue and the delivery was super in character. the third also made sense in context and for the character but is such an iconic line it's hard to miss, lol.

also 10/10 for the extremely phallic/yonic imagery. there's a shot that is pretty much a dick coming out of a vagina, so they really nailed that giger imagery. they also threw it an almost "blink and miss it" moment of the film going full hog on the romulus/wolf of rome imagery, so congrats on that. i may hate the telegraph but they were fucking hilarious for saying this won't do anything for national birth rates. yeahhhh, they're really not wrong abt that.
