Suddenly the first picture in my gallery that will pop up if you get nosy at brunch is of my one and only miss vagina .
Two days since the on and off itch ,so I took the measures one takes -
Deforestation
Cleaning with water ONLY
Asking chatgpt to tell me what's wrong with my ground floor tenant based on the vague description of how she looked this morning
Spreading my legs open in front of my mirror and rummaging through it to find the causative agent if I may ?? And guess what I found ? More questions in mind.
Literal explanation of the visual experience will go something like - there was something white ( that very much looks and feels like my white discharge on an usual day instead it's turned sticky and it's not going away from the top of my urethral opening )
The whole vaginal area felt extremely dry at that moment and there were discharges on the skin of the folds which were again not liquid , they were all clumpy dry or as they say ' cottage cheese discharge'
So with the irritating, cottage cheese discharge and how I had to snap my legs back together after a few mins of physical inspection giving me a vaginal burn is all giving signs of an yeast infection....
So the conclusion is i couldn't wash away the white thing ( am I that inadequate ?) and doing it with bare dry fingers was an illegal move , I will try cleaning once again tomorrow with warm water and see if my coochie can destress .
If any of you got any tips or advice on how to deal w it or what is it , do me the favour y'all

as a basic the-more-you-know: you have both yeast and bacteria all over you, and especially in your vulva. this is a good thing, and the two keep each other in check, most of the time. if something happens to drop the levels of one, then the other will have no natural predators and will grow out of control, causing you Issues. you can also get yeast infections anywhere
Popping in to correct some info, and give advice for when youre having/about to have a bad time
Bacterial Vaginosis (BV) and yeast infections actually do have different symptoms, and can frequently be told apart without a test.
TLDR; if you have white ''cottage cheese'' discharge, it's yeast. If it smells bad, is foamy, or gray, it's bacteria
(If you have a rare yeast in there, then YMMV. but for candida ala-something yeast, by far the most common one, this guide will work)
Chart below goes into more detail:
Tumblr media
If youre not sure which you have: you may not be able to get a PH test strip at walmart (idk), but they do sell them at CVS. [edit: i just found some at walmart too.] Swab yourself, and it'll indicate which you have based on the growing environments of your vagina. Theyre also on amazon, if you shop there.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When taking antibiotics, especially broad spectrum antibiotics: plan on a yeast infection, and be pleasantly surprised if it does not appear. theyre killing all the bacteria in your body--that includes the good bacteria keeping your yeast in check.
Plan on eating greek yogurt and maybe splurge on probiotics for the duration. my mother will request a yeast infection Rx at the same doc appt as the antibiotics--she knows she will get one like clockwork.
OTHER: if you have chronic yeast infections that arent responding to treatment, see an OB and request they test what kinds of yeast it is. If you have a rare yeast, they may need to prescribe you something other than the 'regular' treatment to deal with it effectively--many meds won't contain antifungals for all possible yeasts, just the the likely ones.
Having a vagina honestly sucks bc it's like you have to do fucking alchemy just to prevent yourself from getting sick. You've got an intricate ecosystem of microorganisms down there that you're dependent on for your own well-being and they can be set off by the tiniest fucking thing
Keeping your pubes too short can cause yeast infections, but letting them get too long can also cause yeast infections. Washing the area with specialized soap can help prevent yeast infections, but it can also cause them. Your periods can cause yeast infections, and so can the medicine you take to stop your periods. Having sex can cause yeast infections, especially if the person you're having sex with is diabetic (???). Being diabetic can cause yeast infections. Wearing the wrong clothes or eating the wrong things can cause yeast infections. Not getting enough fucking sleep can cause yeast infections. The list is neverending
Luckily, yeast infections are fairly easy to treat with OTC medicine that you can find at any Walmart. BUT! Even if all of your symptoms indicate that you have a yeast infection, you have to take a test first to confirm that it's a yeast infection (they do not sell the tests at Walmart) bc you might actually have the opposite of a yeast infection (bacterial vaginosis) which has the exact same symptoms as a yeast infection but is caused by an imbalance of different microorganisms. And if you use yeast infection medicine to treat a bacterial infection it will light your pussy on fire. So if you have a bacterial infection, you must instead visit your local witch doctor (gynecologist) and get prescribed special potions (antibiotics) to treat it
Antibiotics can also cause yeast infections

Yup, same thing happened to me.
I had an emergency hysterectomy, including the removal of my cervix. Thankfully the cancer was contained, so I didn't need radiation treatment or chemotherapy. But I need checkups every 6 months to make sure it doesn't return.
Please, if anything unusual is happening in or around your vagina, get it looked at ASAP.
There's a post going around Tumblr about how if you're post-menopausal and have bleeding, you should get it checked by your doctor. I brought some minor bleeding I'd had up in a doctor visit earlier this year, prompted by that post, and this week, after a biopsy, I found out I have cancer. It's early stage and the survival odds at 5 years are 99%. I have an oncologist appointment and we may have caught it early enough that surgery alone will be sufficient treatment (no radiation/chemo).
So that post may have saved my life and it may have made my treatment a lot easier too.
If you get into menopause and then start bleeding again, really, get your reproductive innards checked out. The life you save may be your own.

Hi!
Sorry if I'm getting too to the point, but this question has been on my mind for quite some time and I'm embarrassed to ask my parents.
Is it normal for my vagina to have a fishy odor and to smell too much? It's usually not very strong, but sometimes I can smell the smell and I'm embarrassed that someone else can smell it.
Thanks for reading this question!
Hi Anon,
Without being able to examine you myself, or take a health history, I would err on the side of asking your doctor - even your pediatrician. I know you're embarrassed to ask your parents, but is it possible just to ask for a check-in? Do you have a mom/parent who needs gynecologic healthcare, who would be understanding?
This could be just that you are sensitive to what is a normal smell. During menstrual cycle fluctuations, the odors can vary, and sometimes even be mildly fishy. In this case, it's really unlikely anyone else is smelling it. Does the smell come and go? If you're a young adolescent who has never had intercourse, this is the most likely cause.
It's also possible you could have an imbalance in your normal vaginal flora that has allowed a bacterial infection to set in, called bacterial vaginosis (or BV, for short). BV usually comes with other symptoms, like a thin/watery greyish discharge; itching around the vulva; or a burning sensation when peeing. Although it's not a sexually transmitted disease, it's much less common in people who have not had sex. The treatment is a short course of an antibiotic. Do you have any other symptoms?
Finally, there is an uncommon condition called trimethylaminuria (TMAU), which is when you lack the enzyme to break down certain compounds, and it leaves your breath, sweat, and vaginal secretions with an odor that can be described as fishy or sulfurous. Is it just your vaginal secretions, or do you notice it elsewhere in your body?
---
Sorry I can't be more help here, Anon, without more information. I hope you can find a way to talk to your doctor or trust your parents, just so you can rule out anything.
Note to all teens: When you visit your doctor, you should be seen without your parents in the room, for at least a part of the visit. This is the time when you should be able to ask these kinds of questions.

What is the concept of "painless" vaginal delivery, and how is it achieved?
Tumblr media
The concept of "painless" vaginal delivery involves the use of pain management techniques to minimize or alleviate the discomfort associated with labor and childbirth. This approach aims to enhance the birthing experience for the mother while ensuring the well-being of both the mother and the baby. The primary method for achieving painless vaginal delivery is through the administration of epidurals or spinal blocks.
1- Epidural Analgesia:
Epidural anesthesia involves the injection of anesthetic medication into the epidural space in the spine. This numbs the lower half of the body, providing relief from labor pain while allowing the mother to remain conscious and actively participate in the delivery.
2- Spinal Block:
A spinal block is similar to an epidural but involves injecting the anesthetic directly into the cerebrospinal fluid. It provides rapid pain relief and is often used for cesarean sections or when a quick onset of anesthesia is required.
3- Combined Spinal-Epidural (CSE):
CSE combines elements of both spinal and epidural anesthesia, offering the rapid pain relief of a spinal block with the continuous pain management of an epidural.
The choice between these methods depends on various factors, including the stage of labor, the mother's medical history, and personal preferences. The administration of pain relief is typically performed by an anesthesiologist, and the dosage can be adjusted to provide the desired level of comfort.
It's important to note that while painless delivery methods are widely used and considered safe, they are not mandatory, and some women choose to experience natural childbirth without pharmacological pain relief. The decision to opt for a painless vaginal delivery is a personal one, and discussions with healthcare providers during prenatal care can help individuals make informed choices based on their specific needs and preferences.

I use the same body wash I use for the rest of my body and I've been fine. No hard scrubbing and not going up there, of course. Just the outside bits and bobs
My mother swore that you don't need anything except water, so that's something to try. I personally just never felt comfortable/clean with just water and am doing just fine with the normal soap
There's also specialized soap that's really mild as well
I'd say just try some things and see what works best for you. What's good for someone else might not be good for you. We're all different after all
Does washing your vulva with soap disrupt your vaginal flora/pH levels?
I’ve heard not to use soap to clean the vagina, but I don’t know if that means to literally not put soap in your vagina or if the statement is just mislabeling the vulva as the vagina. Ty, love your blog.
If you're using harsh, scented soaps, yes, it will! But unscented soaps with no harsh ingredients should be fine as long as you're not using tons of it.
You definitely don't use soap for your vagina, since it's usually self-cleaning, but using it for your vulva is okay.
Hope this helps! And thanks, I'm so glad. Lemme know if you have anymore questions. <3

Hospital Lengths of Stay
I think people outside the USA severely overestimate how long hospital stays are here.
Like, appendectomy, right? That's maybe 24-36 hours door-to-door if there's no complications. If the appendix actually burst it might be 3 days, but only because they're giving you IV antibiotics and setting up home care to do that at home would take longer than just keeping you in the hospital.
A scheduled surgery like a hysterectomy, cholecystectomy, mastectomy, or anything else they can do laparoscopically (though small "keyhole" incisions)? You're probably not staying overnight at all.
Planned surgeries that need some kind of after care (like bariatric surgery, knee replacements, hip replacements, total vaginal hysterectomies, bladder lifts, etc...) would be usually 1-3 days.
Minor heart attack? 2-3 days.
Fracture and surgical repair of a large bone (like the femur)? About 2-3 days.
What about the exacerbation of a chronic illness like asthma, COPD, heart failure, or hypertension? IF they admit you (not just stabilize and discharge from the emergency department), it will be generally less than about 3-5 days.
Gunshot wound to the abdomen with surgery to repair things? 3-5 days.
And a stroke, sepsis, gunshot wound to the chest, or major heart attack? That would be somewhere in the 5-7 day range.
Severe trauma with multiple severely broken bones and relatively extensive surgery? This might be somewhat longer, but usually for nursing and pain control reasons rather than the surgery or injuries themselves. 1-3 weeks would be usual.
In the hospital for a mental health reason like decompensated schizophrenia or major depression? A little less than a week is normal, though some people stay several weeks if medications aren't working well.
The people who stay in hospitals for weeks or months typically have whole systems that don't work, or are waiting for a major organ transplant. For example, I had a patient once whose entire abdomen was open and couldn't be closed surgically. She was on TPN (IV nutrition) and IV antibiotics and needed massive amounts of wound care done every hour or so because her intestinal contents were spilling out of her open abdomen. She was there for months and ultimately didn't make it.
Are there people who stay longer than these cases? Of course! These are just averages pulled from medicaid data and personal experiences, based on patients who are coming in relatively healthy. Patients who have other significant health problems usually stay longer than patients who come in with a single problem.
But if you are otherwise healthy except for the reason you came into the hospital, unless you fell off a building or were in a massive car accident you are probably not staying in the hospital very long at all.
