CROSS OF IRON (1977) Grade: B
James Coburn was cold, great actor. Sam Peckinpah film so the action gritty and good, especially the sound. It had to win something for 1977? It was awesome.

"BLOODY SAM" GOES FULL "WATERY SAM."
PIC INFO: Spotlight on a behind-the-scenes photograph of American filmmaker Sam Peckinpah inside a tub, demonstrating to actors Vadim Glowna and Ivica Pajer, how he wants them to play a particular scene in the WWII-based film "Cross of Iron," the controversial film director's first film dealing with modern war.
While set in Russia, on the Eastern Front, the film was shot entirely elsewhere, on location in Croatia, Yugoslavia and Slovenia.

Directing Hell
FB Event
EN This documentary is about the multi-awarded Greek film director and author, Nikos Nikolaidis. Having produced and directed eight feature films, most of which awarded in Greek and International Film Festivals, having written 3 novels and directed more than 200 T.V. Commercials, he died in 2007. His films and his characters have been characterized as controversial, since they adopt a rebellious attitude towards the social and political status quo, while his filming was poetic, dynamic and aesthetically beautiful, featuring borderline situations and eliciting his audience’s feelings. His world is dark while his present and future are filled with pessimism. His only ambiguous hope for the end is when his heroes find their escape in death. The documentary dives into Nikolaidis' work, in an effort to decipher his universe and his symbols as reflections of his unique and rare personality. As a cinematic project, the documentary introduces us to Nikolaidis' dynamics, without demanding previous knowledge of his work. The ultimate aim of this project is to make the audience and other filmmakers understand and identify with Nikolaidis' fears and emotions. Being constructed around his films, it conveys some of Nikolaidis' messages and creates a platform for exchanging opinions about his work. It builds a dialogue between his film associates throughout the years, actors and actresses, filmmakers, musicians and film critics, while communicating the director's dark ideals to a broader audience, requesting a comparison with other directors or filmmaker in Greece or internationally. Now on Netflix streaming!
Sleeping Beauty (2011), directed by Julia Leigh.
I first half-watched the German film it's based on--Das Haus der schlafenden Schönen (2006), directed by Vadim Glowna (which is in turn based on a novel). Just from what I've seen of both, it seems the earlier film is from the perspective of a client and the new film from one of the girls. V
