Also, FYI, I am usually mobile bound and this is not my main blog, so I am not always logged in here. Therefore, it can take me up to a week or two to follow back at times.

i.   I’m mutuals only which means I only write & interact with blogs when we are both following each other. This blog is low activity so I will be fairly slow at times. I have a very busy personal life, so I tend to follow a very limited amount of blogs, for my own sanity and so that I can develop deeper, ongoing plots. 

ii.  For my own comfort, I will not follow blogs that don’t have rules, a name & age requirement, or writing posted. Primarily rules — posted on your pinned post or somewhere easily visible/accessible. I do not interact with writers under the age of 21. Please do not lie about your age. vi. First of all, I respect everyone's ships. If I am not fond of a ship you enjoy, that doesn't mean you should not enjoy it freely! Ship hate is not tolerated here.

I enjoy dynamics of all types but I am little more hesitant with romantic ships. I just prefer to plot and develop our muses first to see if the chemistry is there before jumping into a ship. Please do not force or hint ships. Rather, if we are writing and plotting together and you think there is potential, just ask! The worst that will happen is I suggest an alternate dynamic.

Karitza is very closed, jaded and rough around the edges so she is not the best at relationships. That being said, I am open to toxic dynamics, I will not write abusive romantic relationships. And I don't feel comfortable writing hero/villain ships where one muse has tortured, abused or traumatized another muse.

FYI. I have integrated a lot of Karitza's star wars lore with a group of knight muses that I have heavily plotted with. I may mention them in my main star wars verses.

Basics of Wwukyo

Wwukyo is the language that the clan cats will speak. It is technically an amalgamation of pidgins, but I don’t really want to create multiple languages and put them together. The backstory of the clans is still being worked on, but there were 3-4 languages that had to come together to create Wwukyo. Additionally, each clan will eventually have a slightly different version because most of the time they are mostly made up of a certain pre-clan cultural group. Either way, here are some of the basics that I have down

Why Wwukyo

In Wwukyo, Wwukyo simply means speak (verb), although I am using it as a noun, the cats tend not to. The clans are very isolated, so from their perspective if you aren’t speaking Wwukyo then you aren’t speaking. While there are some rouge/loner groups nearby, they speak the language that was spoken by the clans before the languages merged, most cats can get the jist of what rouges are saying and have no reason to differentiate between their speak and the rouge’s speak.

Phonetics/Syllables

In order to make the language both semi-realistic and pronounceable, I took sounds from both human languages and cat sounds. The syllable structure is C(Y)V(C). There is never a consonant at the end of a word. All words end in vowels. This might change when I make clan dialects. The “Y” stands for a specific group of consonants, r, y, and w. This was inspired by how meow can sound like mrow. I added y and w as possibilities for fun.

This syllable structure is slightly unique. Most cat languages completely prevent the coda, the final consonant of a syllable. I don’t imagine any clear prefrece towards having a Y consonant type or allowing vowel only consonants.

Consonants: p, t, m, n, s, r, y, k, w

The obviously human inspired sounds are p and t. I wanted some stops (k is not one), so I chose the frontest two. m, n, and w come from the “meow/mew/mauw” sound.I chose to add n to have more consonants. I think it might be fun to have one of the clans lack a distinction between m/n. s is from cat hisses. I might also consider adding the bilabial fricative for more variety, but that would probably be another case where some clans have it and some do not. r, y, and k are the most confusing and “catty” sounds. The r is a cat chirp/trill. The k is a cat chatter. The y is a yowl-like sound. Go watch Jackson Galaxy’s video on cat vocalizations for examples. In the version I use to actually speak it the r is a trill or sometimes tap and the y is yuh or IPA j sound. The k is the hardest. I like to simplify it to a k stop sound, but it is more like a further back, harsher rhotic trill, typically a velar trill. I imagine that most other cat languages have a smaller or similar number of consonants. A large number of consonants is practically nonexistent. The most common consonants are m, w, y, and k. Voice distinction is uncommon in all cat languages. If they do have it, it is most common in fricatives.

The consents can be germinated. This is when a consonant is pronounced for more time than it typically is. It is represented by a double consonant, like (Ww)ukyo. In their language it can be by just lengthening the consent or pronouncing it twice. If a word is made by combining two others and the ending consonant of the first matches the beginning consonant of the last they get geminated and start the second syllable. An example is the word for water mittro. The “mit” is the noun class for unmade things and “tro” is the word for liquid/water. Instead of the syllables becoming (mit)(tro) it becomes (mi)(ttro). The base word is still understood to be “tro”, so when cats combine water with other words the t is not geminated. This is very common in other cat languages. I imagine that there are some languages with three consonant lengths.

Vowels: a, e, i, o, æ

For simplicity the æ vowel is written as u. One thing that I decided to make Wwukyo different from human languages was the vowels I chose. As written above to me, a meow sounds like meeow, mew, or maow/mauw. The third is meant to be some sort of low vowel-back vowel diphthong. When also looking at other cat vocalizations, cats tend to make front vowel sounds instead of back vowel sounds. To show this, all the vowels are from, except o, which can be pronounced as whichever back vowel you like. I switch between /o/ and/ u/ depending on the word. For the front vowels, a is the lowest sound and i is the highest sound. u sounds how you would expect it to sound, similar to how cat is pronounced in standard american english. The e can really be wherever you like. I tend to go with a more central e, but it can be pronounced closer to the i if you would like. There are no diphthongs in Wwokyo. Other cat languages are somewhat similar. I imagine that having a greater number of front vowel sounds is common. Most cats in this world can distinguish between small differences in vowel height. Other languages also often have very few back vowels. I imagine that the /o//u/ thing the clans have going on is common, but some languages might not even have any phonemic back vowels.

Like the consonants, the vowels have length distinctions. Short vowels are represented by a singular vowel (a), long vowels are represented by two vowels (aa), and extra long vowels are represented by a z and then the vowel (za). The words will be pretty long because Wwukyo is somewhat of an agglutinative language, so I decided to not let three vowels be one after another. I would have added diacritics, but that is much harder to type and if the font is small it will be difficult to see. T chose a z because I will likely not need it because of the lack of voice distinction. If I plan on making a Wwukyo dialect with it, the c will replace z.

As a side note, I imagine that tone would be very common among cat languages. I kind of forgot that tone existed when I was planning the phonemes, but maybe if I ever get to making the original languages or some outsider languages one of them will probably have tones. I feel like it would be extra fun for them to have 2-3 vowels with tone and length distinction. It would be kind of annoying to write because I would have to use diacritics, but it could be fun.

Word Order

My favorite word order is VSO. If it was more common in human languages, pretty much all of my human conlangs would have a verb first. Given that this is not a human conlang, I have no reason not to make the word order VSO, so I did. With this power, cat languages also almost always start with a verb, instead of typically starting with a subject like human languages do. A very large majority are VSO, but there are some VOS, and maybe a small percentage of subject or object first languages. They also have adjectives last and prepositions.

Noun Classes

One thing that I have always wanted to do in my human conlangs that I just haven’t is noun classes. My grandparents speak Swahili, so while I often look for Swahili for inspiration, I have never actually done noun classes. When I start making more aspects of Wwukyo I plan on getting inspiration from Swahili and some native american languages from Washington/the Olympic Peninsula. I normally get inspiration from Ojibwe, so I am unsure yet which tribes are native to there.

I am going to wait to share the complete list. There will probably be a lot because the clans highly value clarity. I also want to think about what is important to the clan cats instead of what I am used to. For example, grouped animals up by location because that is important information for hunting, but the animals that they do not hunt, like a mountain lion, coyote, or eagle, are instead marked as dangerous because that is their most important characteristic. I am undecided on how to group animals that are both hunted and dangerous like snakes.

I imagine that the commonality of noun cases depended on the size and structure of the cat group. Larger groups with more structure, like the clans, will tend to develop large, strict noun cases. Languages that are spoken by a group of cats that are not closely interconnected might have noun cases, but the number and what each noun is a part of changed from cat to cat, so they might drop the classes when speaking to cats who speak the same language who they do not know.

Verb Tense

One thing I love to put in my conlangs is a complicated verb tense system. Again, these cats love themselves with some clarity, so they have many tenses for the different relationships between the past, present and future. I have decided to slightly hold back and there is no distinction between the near and far past/future. I am much too lazy to do research on the types of tenses, so I will show you a table instead of naming them

The bold represents when the action is taking place. My favorite tense is the wza- tense, but the noo- and tti- are also fun.

This is one of the few few things that is unique among the clan cats. Most cats have a very simple verb tense system.

Adjectives

Adjectives are very boring so far :(. Unlike nouns and verbs that have their fun little prefixes, adjectives are almost by themselves. Technically they are meant to be attached to what they are describing as a suffix, catgray, but an adjective on its own gray has nothing special about it. I might keep it this way. I can’t add everything into this language, even for clarity.

The next post will be about the territory!! I have been doing some major reworking because I realized having the mountain, meadow, and forest might be unrealistic. Especially because I have been looking at a temperate rainforest.

the best part of him, what he tries most often to show the world, wants to say it’s okay, that he gets it but he can’t help that he does feel a spike of hurt at the revelation laid out in front of him. kanan is caleb. force, it feels so stupid to think that he hadn’t known that until now. how could he have missed it? it’s so obvious now. and maybe that’s a part of his hurt, that he hadn’t noticed and that kanan had hid it both hurt.

it’s not anger in his voice, he knows that this isn’t something to deal with by getting angry, but he does sound like he’s tired and unsure, an uncommon thing for poe. looking towards the other man, poe tries to smile, tries to see the boy he’d spent so much time thinking about in the man he has, apparently, become. it’s there, in the edges, and that just makes his guilt grow.

Leia Skywalker resisted the urge to check her lightsaber; she knew it was hanging at her side right where it belonged. It was still hard not to reach for it needlessly; the fidget would have given her something to focus on. She could have sunken into the Force, of course, could have reached-out and touched the galaxy around her; a Jedi was never alone, never bored. But Leia could afford no distractions right now; she had to focus.

If she was going to kill her only nephew, the least she could do was pay attention.

Leia took another slow, calm breath; aside from the roiling discomfort that fluttered in her guts like a dozen anxious ugnaughts, she was relaxed. It did no good to walk into a fight tense -- and Leia was sure that a fight was what was waiting for her. Kylo Ren would never surrender and she could not allow him to threaten the galaxy unchecked just because she was fond of him. She had to end this.

And the time for that, Leia felt, was now. No more waiting while her nephew gathered his nerve or plotted some treachery to avoid dealing with her himself: it was time to face one another...again. “Kylo!” Leia called, using the Force to pitch her voice so that it would carry across the field and across the half-built First Order base at whose walls she stood staring. “Come out. Auntie Leia wants a word!”

The blue and green glow of multiple screens in the command room were beginning to morph into a sickly cyan hue the longer Eron stared at them. He’d been the last to remain there; the last comms operator had cleared their shift an hour before, and left him to tend to his work. Though he wasn’t exactly alone. A couple of protocol droids and astromechs were his company that night, walking and rolling back-and-forth from station to station, carrying out the tasks they were programmed to do like clockwork. He’d grown accustomed to the squeaks of metal limbs and the droids were all too happy to stay out of his way, rarely interacting with him. 

Two more hours passed without missing a beat. Eron leaned against the console, elbows resting on the hard surface between the switch panels. His eyes were getting dry, his throat raspy. A quiet yawn escaped him as he scanned one of the many battle plans laid out in front of him. Rationality nudged at him, wanting him to put everything on hold until morning when he could feel less worn-out. But he was ever the stubborn one and he couldn’t afford to miss a single detail even if his eyelids were struggling to stay open. 

As if on cue, and as if his thoughts had been read, he sensed a familiar presence through the Force. The automatic door slid to side to reveal the groggily messy face of his love, whom he didn’t doubt was woken up by his absence in bed. Before he could turn around to look at Mali, the man had already closed the distance between them, and gave him a playful smack (and a mischievous squeeze not a second later) across his backside just as soon as their arms tangled around each other’s waist. 

“Hey, pretty boy.” Eron greeted him with a tired smile, his tone heavy with exhaustion. The sight of Mali next to him was exactly what he needed. Maybe his husband was here to drag him out of here to their quarters and he knew he’d welcome that very much. “Why are you up? It’s late.”

Rey’s smile was half a wince. “I’m pretty sure I’m the one who’s supposed to learn how to ‘see things coming,’ if we want to get technical,” she said. “At least, Leia tells me the Force will start sending me visions of the future someday...probably when I least want it,” she added in an absent grumble. For once, Rey wasn’t thinking about her training, but rather about the condition of Rose’s skull.

“Are you sure you’re okay? Maybe we should find a medic, that clunk sounded pretty bad...”

A flush hit her cheeks fast as she heard her own words; had she really just said that Rose had a thick head? Somebody shoot her now... “I mean -- that had to be pretty heavy. Right?” Oh good, now it sounds like you’re insulting her brilliant jury-rigged simulator... “Pretty heavy to land on your head, I mean, it was a really excellent weight for a simulator...you know,” she finished sheepishly, “before it fell apart. Was that me?” This time, her expression was 100% wince and zero smile. “Did I break it?”

A TROS fix-it fic, in which Rey skips to a different timeline via the World Between Worlds, only to land in the Jedi acadmey with pre-Dark Side Ben and a less cynical Luke Skywalker.  She decides to stick around, watch, and wait, and intervene if she has to, to protect the one she loved and lost.

“course now, we can stay as long as you need,” he whispers the words because they’re for finn and finn only. not that anyone else is listening or paying attention to them. the scattered remains of the resistance that are currently on the falcon are either sleeping or begging for sleep. no one can be bothered to noticed that poe has an arm around finn’s chest, holding him against his own, back to chest, and poe trying to block the sight of anyone else with his back.

he smiles gently, but even that feels out of place here and it doesn’t reach his eyes. there’s been too much loss, pain, and horror for this to be a place for him to smile. even if he’s trying to help someone else feel better. even if that person is finn.

Well... I had a pre-TROS theory that Ren from “The Rise of Kylo Ren” was Ben from a darker future/timeline seeking to change things, and that what we’re seeing is the new future with changes that happen because of it

So now, revisiting the theory to write about it post-TROS (and seeing the overall dumpster fire that’s TROS and its Visual Guide) feels like:

Main Story: Following the events of The Last Jedi, Luke has rejoined the Resistance, though he attempts to keep his presence among the Resistance forces a secret.  He wants the galaxy to believe he is dead-- especially Kylo Ren and the First Order.   While Luke does venture on elite missions at General Organa-Solo’s instruction; he is not a military man, and reports only to Leia (he also can and will disregard her orders if he doesn’t agree; he’s a civilian after all, and a supposedly dead one at that).  

In the meantime, he spends most of his time with Rey, who he has formally taken on as an apprentice.  It is through Rey that Luke is trying to pass on his knowledge of the Force-- not of the Jedi Order.  Luke wants Rey to learn to stand on her own feet, without relying on a legacy or bloodline to feel special, and to arrive at the conclusion that she is special simply because she lives, and exists, as is true for all beings across the galaxy. 

This is Luke Skywalker’s understanding of the Force, and his personal school of thought.  When he previously taught at the Academy, he kept closer to the ways of the Old Order and through this he discovered how he and the Jedi before him had failed.  Now he teaches Rey what he has learned through his own experiences and failures; hoping to impart on her a way to find answers for herself, rather than relying on dusty old masters to provide them.

In this way, Luke has finally fulfilled his destiny to be the first of the new Jedi; not because he himself has been able to achieve that enlightenment, but because his teachings (the new teachings) will be passed on to Rey, that she can take them out to others amongst the galaxy.  Rey, as Luke Skywalker’s apprentice and with her Jedi lineage tracing through Luke, not through something as trivial as blood but by her tutelage in the ways of the Force, is what makes her a Skywalker-- and soon, a Jedi in her own right.

I finished season 1, Resistance is definitely an underrated show. It’s difficult to follow up something like Rebels and to have basically no legacy characters or tie-ins the way all the other animated shows do, plus not being released until after TLJ and being in the aftermath of that hot mess certainly didn’t help either I’m sure. It’ll be interesting to see how they manage the lack of a time gap between TFA and TLJ and whether or not this group will be involved in pre-TROS stuff

It took probably 2/3 of the season for me to start feeling really invested in the show but I really care for this group of characters and the way they raised the stakes and tied it into TFA worked out really well. I’m really curious to see what happens in season 2 but at this point I already want to see more of their story and I hope Filoni carries it on in future projects, this got me interested in the sequel era again beyond my few fave characters

Some highlights:

BB-8 is in it for quite awhile!!! And there’s more Poe than I expected too and he’s still voiced by Oscar ☺️ it doesn’t totally make sense why BB-8 is with Kaz for so long but it’s fine lol

Some of the characters I wasn’t endeared to right away grew on me as they developed, this show took longer than Rebels to get serious but I really enjoyed getting to know them. Lots of unique perspectives and reactions to the slow takeover by the first order of a fueling platform. But also: Tam, what are you doing 😭

It’s interesting to look at the way the First Order is trying to gain power compared to how the empire rose, because they were essentially running a mafia protection racket on outer rim worlds and not seen as much of a threat until ope. They have a secret army bigger than the republic and then out of nowhere they blew up the entire governing system 😬 like it worked i guess but palps would have been appalled by the absolute lack of finesse lmao

Anyway this is me telling you to go watch resistance if you haven’t!! It’s more geared toward kids than late TCW but still v good
