“Psst! Old Geezer!”
“The fuck did you just call me–!” Dick Grayson was a lot of things–cop, detective, vigilante, handsome beyond mortal comprehension–but he wasn’t old! Twenty-three was not old! When he got his hands on that brat– “Oh, it’s you. You need to knock it off, kid.”
The kid in question had become something of a legend to the Central Bloodhaven Police Department. Detective O’Mallery had dubbed the kid “Stalky,” but Dick thought Lurky was a more accurate name; the kid lurked outside murder scenes, often showing up before the press… and sometimes, before the cops. Lurky was a short kid, easily half Dick’s height, and pale. He practically glowed, lighting up the alley Dick was guarding. He wore a black overcoat that swamped his tiny body, with the sleeves and hem cut to fit the child’s frame and a stiff gothic collar that reached his ears. Lurky’s black hair and blue eyes uncomfortably reminded Dick of—
“Nah, i don’t think i will,” the kid dismissed, shoving his hands in his pockets. “‘Sides, you can’t do anything to stop me.”
“I can arrest you,” Dick said, completely serious. “You’re interfering with a crime scene, again. I’d be well within my rights to do so.” The kid looked unimpressed.
“Okay, boomer.”
Dick resisted the urge to murder a child. Barely.
“Besides,” Lurky continued, “I just wanted to do my civic duty and inform you of the bloody knife three alleys over. Pretty sure it could help solve the crime scene there.” He gestured towards the apartment building behind Dick. “Andrew Grant-Williams, age 36, apartment 214. Right?”
“How the hell did you know that?”
“What, that thing with the knife? I looked for it, obviously.”
“No, about the suspect!” Dick glared at Lurky. “There’s no way you could have pinpointed who in the apartment died; did you steal a police radio!?” If he did, then Dick would actually have to arrest the kid.
“No, I didn’t steal a police radio. Yet.” Dick tried really hard to ignore that last part. He’d done far worse things as Robin, after all. “His wife told me.”
Andrew Grant’s wife, Patrisa, died four years ago in a mugging gone wrong. Before Dick could question Lurky further, Dick blinked and Lurky vanished just like Batman.
Even worse? Dick bothered checking the dumpster three alleys over and found, underneath a bag of kitchen scraps, a hunting knife, still bloody.

Vote YES to Amendment 3 in Missouri!
For far too long have the filthy xristian scum declared their putrid religion to be the determining factor of how Women use their bodies!
Hundreds of years the churches have suppressed Womanhood and have treated Women less than human!

The Guardian:
Iowa’s state supreme court on Friday told a lower court to let a strict abortion law take effect. The court’s 4-3 ruling held that the law – which bans most abortions after about six weeks of pregnancy – does not violate citizens’ fundamental rights under the state constitution, rejecting a lawsuit by Planned Parenthood. The decision reversed a lower court order that blocked the 2023 law from going into effect. The law passed with exclusively Republican support in a one-day special session last July, making Friday’s ruling a win for the GOP in Iowa. Most women do not know they are pregnant at six weeks. Republican-led states across the country have limited abortion access since 2022, when the US supreme court overturned the federal abortion rights previously established by Roe v Wade.
For now, 14 states have near-total bans on abortion, and four – now including Iowa – have implemented six-week bans.
On Friday, the Iowa Supreme Court ruled in Planned Parenthood v. Reynolds that Iowa’s draconian 6-week abortion ban law (HF732) can take effect.

Trudy Ring at The Advocate:
Hillary Clinton and Kelly Clarkson joined in denouncing the Arizona Supreme Court’s recent abortion ruling when Clinton appeared on Monday’s edition of The Kelly Clarkson Show. The court ruled last week that Arizona could enforce a law from 1864 — before Arizona was a state or women had the right to vote — that bans abortion except in cases where the pregnant person’s life is threatened.
“Did you ever think in your lifetime that we would see that happen?” Clarkson asked Clinton. “It’s just insane to me, the thinking that went on in 1864 … it’s a very different world, we know a lot more now, that we’re going backwards.” “It is horrifying in every way,” Clinton said. “I feared it would happen, but I hoped it wouldn’t happen, and now here we are in the middle of this very difficult period for women in about half the states in our country who cannot get the care that they need, and the old law in Arizona is without exceptions, and the danger to women’s lives as well as our right to make our own decisions about our bodies and ourselves is so profound.” “And there’s another element to it which I find so troubling,” the former presidential candidate continued. “There is a kind of cruelty to it. No exceptions for rape, incest — I mean, really?” “And you don’t realize how hard it is,” Clarkson said. “The fact that you would take that away from someone [in a situation] that can literally kill them? The fact that they’re raped … by their family member? It’s just like insane to me.”
On the Monday episode of NBCU's The Kelly Clarkson Show, guest Hillary Clinton and the show's titular host Kelly Clarkson discussed how horrifyingly harmful Arizona's Civil War-era abortion ban is.

How to Prepare for a Post-Roe World (Bonus Episode)
In a good timeline, no one would have to prepare for a post-Roe world. Reproductive rights would be safely enshrined in our constitution, where they belong. Plus, ice cream would never melt.
Unfortunately, last week’s news made it abundantly clear that we’re in a crappy timeline. I accepted this news with horror, but not surprise. My faith in my elected representatives is as melty as a tub of Americone Dream left on the counter overnight.
But this isn’t the time to despair. It’s time to take action. Someone gave us the incredible gift of forewarning. We have two months to prepare. And there’s a lot of steps you can take to protect yourself and others in your community from the appalling consequences of forced childbirth.
Keep listening.

Robin Opsahl at Iowa Capital Dispatch, via The 19th:
Many patients seeking abortion care in Iowa in the past few weeks were unaware that the state has banned most abortions beginning Monday, Planned Parenthood staff said. More than six years after the Legislature first attempted to pass the law, abortion became illegal in Iowa, with narrow exceptions, at 8 a.m. Monday. Kristina Remus, a Planned Parenthood patient services associate, said Friday that many people she is working with are unaware that Iowa’s abortion law was changing. “To say the last few weeks have been hard is an understatement,” Remus said. “People are confused and seeking clarification. And a lot of patients are unaware that there is a law banning abortion at about six weeks before many people know that they’re pregnant set to take effect so soon on Monday. We are having extremely difficult conversations in my department with patients.” The Iowa law bans abortions after cardiac activity is detectable in an embryo, something that can occur as early as six weeks of gestation. There are some exceptions to the ban, including for rape, incest and to save the life of the mother.
The so-called “fetal heartbeat” law was blocked from enforcement shortly after it was passed in July 2023. It was signed by Gov. Kim Reynolds in a special session after the Iowa Supreme Court ruled to uphold an injunction on a similar 2018 law. But in this June, the state Supreme Court ruled that a district court judge should lift the injunction on the 2023 measure, in addition to setting a lower legal standard for testing the constitutionality of Iowa abortion laws.
Iowa’s draconian 6-week abortion ban law HF732 is now in effect, thanks to the Republican majority on the state’s Supreme Court.

Watch "Why I got an "Abortion"" on YouTube
youtube
I encourage you to watch, but for anyone who can't bother with the whole thing, I like to quote Illymation's parting thoughts directed toward those of us who are "Pro Life":
“I would have no choice.
“You need to confront the fact that you don’t value my life. You don’t value the living. You only value an organ, and its ability to produce children. Not the actual, living, breathing person who, for some reason, has to beg for the right to their life, their liberty, and their happiness. That’s what this is all about. That’s what this has always been about.
“It’s not an opinion. It’s my life. It’s my choice.”
