So... what do you have figured out about the kids in their respective ghost AUs? How they died? Whether they're able to meet with those in the afterlife who are concerned about them? How well the surviving one is handling it?
(( *cracks knuckles* IM GLAD YOU ASKED!! :DDDDDD ))
Franziska:
Died in an accident at 17. Maybe car?? I haven’t decided the actual accident yet, but it was an accident. No foul play despite this being Ace Attorney
Gregory and Livia did greet her upon her arrival in the afterlife, but she found it hard to accept them and kept her distance. They’re happy to wait if she ever comes around again.
She bounced between watching her father and watching Miles. It was during one period of watching her father she caught him writing the letter to Yanni Yogi.
In the thread with Maya Anon, this means she essentially did her damndest to find a spirit medium, found Maya, and outed her father in order to protect her brother. I imagine this means Manfred may only be caught with conspiracy to murder ( which is a life sentence ), but perhaps the truth regarding DL-6 does come to light in the course of finding out what the hell Manfred’s motive would be to set up such an elaborate plot.
Otherwise, Franziska can pretty much only watch helplessly as the canon events unfold.
She further avoids the Edgeworth’s just on merit of her name and all that’s been learned.
Miles… isn’t taking it as well as can be expected. He managed to get through December and then to that February. Pretty much canon keeps up, but he cuts the Engarde stuff closer to the wick. He’s trying to move on, but it’s hard. He feels guilty for all the times he didn’t call and all the fights they had.
Miles:
Committed suicide not long after Terry Fawles’ trial, feeling as though he was failing as a prosecutor and unwilling to keep facing the horrors that plagued both of his “first” cases. Manfred’s verbal abuse after Fawles’ trial only strengthened his resolve to that end.
He does reunite with Gregory and meets Livia, but finds it hard to be around them. He feels guilty, believing he murdered his father, and has to face that, well, he went a very different path.
He’s a melancholic ghost. He never believed in an afterlife and finding out there is one and he’s stuck there for eternity is… depressing.
Franziska isn’t taking it well. She thought her brother would go to her for help, but apparently not. She feels like she failed as a big sister.
Manfred doesn’t give her any time to mourn and it shows. She bottles everything up at the behest of her father, but it’s a constant sore spot. She falls victim to insomnia rather regularly and everything reminds her of Miles. Even years down the line, it remains as tender a subject as it had been day one. She’s even more reckless and self-destructive and Manfred despises that and regularly tells her so.
Miles can only hopelessly watch as Franziska constantly burns her candle from both ends and is honestly scared she won’t live long enough to see her 20s.

(Ghostziska verse) Hey Miles, do you remember the last thing Franziska said to you? I mean, it'd been so long since you actually contacted her, as busy as you were far away with more important things to do, so I wouldn't blame you if you can't. I wonder how much of her life she never got to share with you, how much closer she got to being a stranger than your sister.
Verse Q&A || ALWAYS ACCEPTING TBH

“I…” He feels sick, grip on his arm growing tight enough to bruise and he’s almost glad for the pain. He’d been a terrible brother and now she’s gone and there’s nothing left for him to do.

Ghost Franziska, do you want to move on? Are you able to? ((also, fun thought: ghost Franziska spying on her Papa and discovering him doing Manfred Shit™ like stealing evidence))
Verse Q&A || ALWAYS ACCEPTING TBH
“What good would it be to move on? At least if I stay here I can… attempt to do something.”

Do you regret dying?
Franziska flickers, foot tapping. “I didn’t exactly have a choice, now did I? I certainly wish I was still alive, but wishing changes nothing.”
Miles casts his gaze downward, fading a bit in shame. “I… thought it would be over if I…. I didn’t know there was more, that I’d have to see….” He sighs, that sounds so selfish. It had been selfish.

Both ghost kid verses: Do you know about the spirit watching over you?
Tumblr media
“Spirits don’t exist.”
Tumblr media
“A-are you sure he’s…?” Her voice cracks and she tries to force back the tears. Crying is pathetic, Papa’s told her so, but still….

((remember the “In Love With A Ghost AU” prompt you reblogged a month back?))
Maya looks up from the souvenirs she’d been toying with at the Kurain tourist center.  Out of the corner of her eye, she’d seen – “Hey, you’re back! Did you have something you wanted to tell me? Wait, before I forget — I didn’t ask your name last time.”
She doesn’t usually see the same spirit enough times to become familiar with them, but this young woman had come to her to warn her that someone was in danger, and then had kept coming to make sure the guy was okay, and then had kept coming, period. This was supposed to be discouraged, but… she was good company.
((I can change anything if you want!))
Franziska walks over, just close enough to be polite. Maya is asking about reasons for her presence and she... doesn’t have any. Nothing significant. Nothing worth bothering the living over.
She’s bored.
There’s no courts in the afterlife and barely anyone to talk to. There’s only two other living people she can even visit, neither of whom can see her and only one of those two she actually wishes could see her.
But Maya talks to her and was helpful when she needed it most. And she didn’t get annoyed when she kept dropping by in worry nor did she try to tell her to move on and stick in the afterlife.
Still, she can’t just say that she’s bored. Such a reason is both childish and foolish, so she’ll answer the other question.
“Franziska. My name is Franziska.” She has decided her last name doesn’t matter anymore. The dead don’t need the pity of the living.

Miles, how are you dealing with Franziska's loss? Do you ever catch yourself forgetting that she's gone?
Tumblr media
“I… I’m dealing with it as best as I can.” Which is to say, he’s not doing well, but he’s trying. “Sometimes I forget, just a moment, but then I always remember. She’s gone and I’ll never-!”
He bites back tears. “I-I have work to get back to.”

Ghost Franziska, do you think a lot about what you would have wanted to do with your life when you grew up?
“I’m 17. I had been a prosecutor for four years before my demise. Had I not died, I would’ve continued prosecuting.”

M-fred, you started hunting for another woman to get pregnant now that Heir Attempt 1 failed?
A look crosses his face that is almost regretful, something that someone naive may interpret as a father mourning.
“I’m sixty-five. There’s little point now.”

Do either of the kiddos have any Cool and Fun Ghost Powers?
(( Not really, they’re both fairly standard spirits.
Franziska does have particular trouble keeping her emotions in check, though, and has a tendency to “glitch” out and lose proper consciousness when she’s stressed or angry. I imagine even enough happiness can make her fritz out.
Miles is a mellow spirit, if not a bit melancholic. ))

“Franziska.  That’s a pretty name.”  Maya guesses that Franziska (and it really is a nice name, it suits the silvery-haired spirit well) didn’t have anything else to say.  But as long as she’s here… “Help me out here.  Do the pennants look better on the wall, or on the table?  We’re trying to get something other than bear carvings to sell.”
Maya has lots of little questions like that.  How to stack the boxes, whether the tops of shelves need dusting (Can Franziska float?  Some spirits do, some don’t.), if purple and white or purple and black makes a better color scheme.
((I’m not making up the tourist merchandise — Maya makes a sweater for Nick out of Kurain promotional materials in the manga.  Everything in the manga should be taken with a grain of salt, but if a detail is useful…))
“Thank you.” I chose it myself, she doesn’t say.
“I’m not much of a shop designer but they’d probably look better on the wall.” And Franziska answers everything else as honestly as she can. Though, she can’t float, a fact that irks her a bit ( her body flickers when Maya asks ); if it’s possible for a spirit to do it, she, as a Von Karma, should be able to as well.
“If you haven’t dusted in a while, perhaps you just should.” She settles on in lieu of confirming the state of the shelves, no longer flickering in annoyance. “And... purple and white is more welcoming.” The other color scheme reminds her of her father somehow, dark and foreboding.
“Do you always get shop-keeping advice from ghosts?” Her small-talk has not improved with her demise.

Ghost Franziska, have you tried contacting Miles? I'm sure your new friend Maya would be willing to help if you asked
She crosses her arms over her chest, fingers gripping her ghostly sleeve, and glances away. “He needs to grieve. Showing up….” Franziska shakes her head. “He doesn’t believe in spirit mediums anyway.”
