♤ The report she’d written felt like a cinderblock in her hands as she held it, knowing she would have to bring it to the captain. She was ashamed of what was in the report, and she had a feeling he wouldn’t be pleased by it. The first assignment she was given and Kaisa failed it miserably. She’d spent a couple of weeks in the Yonbantai recovering and working on the report. At least she had been given time to write it while she healed. The young soul gripped the file so tightly that her knuckles were white, and she feared the possible anger or disappointment she would be facing with Ichimaru-taicho. She was the reason why their division was down two members. Kaisa knew she deserved whatever was coming, but it didn’t quell those fears.
“T-taicho?” Kaisa called out, her voice hesitant, “I have the report for you.”

She stood frozen at his office door, unable to bring herself to knock on it or open it.

~*~ The few shinigami that laid at Jin’s feet hadn’t been much older than her, nor were they much more experienced. They had only been sent out for reconnaissance, and yet, out of the four of them, only Kaisa was left alive. Whether it was dumb luck she hadn’t been there when they were attacked or just how the scenario played out, she was alone and in danger. She respected them as fellow soldiers and, seeing them at his feet, dead shook her to her core.
Her mossy green eyes were wide as she looked at the bloodied bodies of her comrades, then up at him. She felt small as he towered over her petite 5’2” almost too small frame. She swallowed hard and narrowed her eyes, not wanting to show him the immediate feeling of fear that passed through her as she looked at the scene. Kaisa lifted her head and settled her hand on the hilt of her zapakuto, ready to draw it if necessary.
Tumblr media
“Do not come any closer,” she stated, her voice cold and as full of authority as she could muster. Right now she couldn’t focus on the death of people she had trained and fought with. She had to focus on who he was and what he was planning to do, “state your name and your purpose.”
"Were they your friends? What a shame, you just missed them."
A maliciously flippant Jin smirks in Kaisa's direction, standing over the bodies of a few recently slain Shinigami on a rooftop here in the center of Karakura Town. Jin was about to help himself to these kills, to their Souls (before they re-entered the Soul Cycle), but imagine his delight when Kaisa stepped onto the scene.
Tumblr media
"If you want to meet up with them again, though," Jin begins slowly pacing toward Kaisa, "it's not too late; I can reunite all of you with a few quick bites." // @codename-freya

THANK FUCKING GOD
"The Supreme Court on Thursday [June 13, 2024] unanimously preserved access to a medication that was used in nearly two-thirds of all abortions in the U.S. last year, in the court’s first abortion decision since conservative justices overturned Roe v. Wade two years ago.
The nine justices ruled that abortion opponents lacked the legal right to sue over the federal Food and Drug Administration’s approval of the medication, mifepristone, and the FDA’s subsequent actions to ease access to it. The case had threatened to restrict access to mifepristone across the country, including in states where abortion remains legal.
Abortion is banned at all stages of pregnancy in 14 states, and after about six weeks of pregnancy in three others, often before women realize they’re pregnant.
Justice Brett Kavanaugh, who was part of the majority to overturn Roe, wrote for the court on Thursday that “federal courts are the wrong forum for addressing the plaintiffs’ concerns about FDA’s actions.”
The opinion underscored the stakes of the 2024 election and the possibility that an FDA commissioner appointed by Republican Donald Trump, if he wins the White House, could consider tightening access to mifepristone, including prohibiting sending it through the mail...
Kavanaugh’s opinion managed to unite a court deeply divided over abortion and many other divisive social issues by employing a minimalist approach that focused solely on the technical legal issue of standing and reached no judgment about the FDA’s actions...
While praising the decision, President Joe Biden signaled Democrats will continue to campaign heavily on abortion ahead of the November elections. “It does not change the fact that the right for a woman to get the treatment she needs is imperiled if not impossible in many states,” Biden said in a statement...
About two-thirds of U.S. adults oppose banning the use of mifepristone, or medication abortion, nationwide, according to a KFF poll conducted in February. About one-third would support a nationwide ban...
More than 6 million people [in the U.S.] have used mifepristone since 2000. Mifepristone blocks the hormone progesterone and primes the uterus to respond to the contraction-causing effect of a second drug, misoprostol. The two-drug regimen has been used to end a pregnancy through 10 weeks gestation...
Biden’s administration and drug manufacturers had warned that siding with abortion opponents in this case could [have] undermined the FDA’s drug approval process beyond the abortion context by inviting judges to second-guess the agency’s scientific judgments. The Democratic administration and New York-based Danco Laboratories, which makes mifepristone, argued that the drug is among the safest the FDA has ever approved."
-via AP, June 13, 2024
--
Note: A massive relief and a genuine victory - this will preserve access to the medication used in 2/3rds of abortions last year, for at least another 2 years. (Probably minimum time it will take Republicans to get their next attempt before the Supreme Court.)
Still, with this, a sword that has been hanging over our heads for the last two years is gone. There will be a new one soon, but we just bought ourselves probably at least 2 years. The fight isn't over, but this is absolutely worth celebrating.

BULFORD, ENGLAND. 1916-09-27. HM KING GEORGE V, SIR NEWTON MOORE AND MAJOR GENERAL JOHN MONASH REVIEW 3RD DIVISION TROOPS.
John Monash is a real hero of the war. Born into a Jewish Family, Monash and his parents moved, first to England and then to Australia from Germany. A real visionary, he meticulously planned operations that, today, would be considered "combined arms" with limited, reasonable objectives that preserved men and materiel. When you think about the Hundred Days at the end of the war and the Allies finally made progress, He is the architect. For the Kaiser, oh what irony!

Kaiju no.8 episode 8 impressions
Disclaimer: I already caught up with manga so some future plot points might get mentioned. spoiler under the cut
Animation goes hard on Hoshina's movement. They made it clear that Kafka won't make it without No.8's high regeneration rate (he also learned just now that he can't keep regenerating)
Igarashi grows on me now that he has voice (I know he's hot-blooded but seeing him animated take that to another level)
you totally feel frustration in Hoshina's voice when he realizes No.8 has gotten away and long pause before reporting that to Mina...Exactly how we felt with no.9 last week
The last numbered Daikaiju appeared was at Fukuoka (note)
Fukuoka Daikaiju incident happened 5 years ago, No.6 happened way before that so....that leave only no.7 which is interestingly we don't know much abot so far
Kikorun stopping Kafka like a responsible adult despite her being flustered secs ago
Memorial photo lol
Hoshina detective moment (Always think he'll find out sooner or later had the raid didn't happen //or let his feeling blinds him anywa)
If you see suspicious person on road, don't leave your car. turn back if you must
"I'm glad you're safe" -- said a guy who bled a dozen gallons last week/still on his patient bed
Kafka doesn't help
Iharu and Kikorun are real saviors
A6-grade meat
Hakua eating made me happy v _ v,,
Devious Hoshina as a mayhem about to start
...that being said, manga felt more chaotic here probably because we can see other members sitting still in the background whenever camera cut to Reno
That person who watch Aoi and Kafka's arm wrestle match be like °▽°
HARUICHI HAS PROBLEM WITH HIS DAD (Kikorun: YOU TOO!?!)!?!
Aoi "Hope all of them stay" Me "DONT RAISE A FLAG AOI"(# ゚Д)
Welcome to the 3rd Division
Kafka be like, for real?, am I dreaming (turns to Reno because he doesn't know what to do)
Everyone loves Kafka (,,- v -,,)b
Mina making sure Kafka knows Hoshina trust him (´;ω;`)
She calls Kafka using "Kimi" (she seems to switching to Omae when she's commanding the battlefield?)
Sword practice can be very intense, can confirm here
Hoshina talks about how he intend to handle no.8 like he forgot abt Kafka being sus (i feel him trust can be so blinding sometime)
Protective vice capt....
No.10 is so....red....can't wait until he joins comedic duo (ss2 plz)

Battle of Gettysburg - Day 2
July 2
5:10 PM
The 20th Maine Volunteer Infantry Regiment Defends the Union Left Flank
"Fix bayonets!" The order came along the line. It was an order no one wanted to hear, yet no one hesitated. With bayonets fixed, the troops of the 20th Maine Volunteer Infantry Regiment dressed their line and waited. Then the order came. "Charge!"
From atop Little Round Top, Brigadier General Gouverneur Warren, the Chief Topographical Engineer of the Army of the Potomac, could see the entire battle unfold before him. III Corps held positions at the Peach Orchard, the Wheatfield, and Devil's Den, and one by one they were attacked by advancing Confederate forces. However, as he watched the Rebels adanced, he noticed a portion of them were swinging left and heading towards his position. This was a problem. The position at Little Round Top was the left most position of the Union line and, to make things worse, there was only a small contingent from the Army Signal Corps holding it. If the Confederates arrived, there was nothing stopping them from capturing the hill and swinging north to turn the Army of the Potomac's vulnerable left flank.
Without hesitation, Warren quickly sent out couriers to look for reinfocements. One of his couriers would encounter Colonel Strong Vincent, the commander of the 3rd Brigade, of the 1st Division, of V Corps. V Corps had been ordered by General Meade to plug the gap created by III Corps wreckless advance and, due to the confused nature of the fighting, many of its divisions and brigades were being spread out and sent to different portions of the line.
Initially, the courier wanted to talk to Vincent's division commander and relay Warren's message to him. But eventually Vincent managed to convince him to give the orders to him instead and, upon realizing the importance of situation, quickly orderd his brigade to march to Little Round Top.
In deploying his brigade at the hill, the 20th Maine Volunteer Infantry Regiment, under the command of Colonel Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain, was positioned on the very left. In this position, the 20th Maine did not only become the left flank of the brigade, but they also became the left flank of the whole Army of the Potomac. Beyond them was nothing more but open air.
Vincent's brigade arrived at Little Round Top just in time. Moments after arriving, at around 4:45 in the afternoon, the Confederate 4th and 5th Texas Regiment, as well as the 4th Alabama Regiment, struck the center of Vincent's Brigade. Despite the tired and exhausting march under the day's heat, the Confederates still found the energy to rush up the hill and attack. The Union troops quickly responded with a heavy volley of musket fire. With good positions and a determined defense, the Union managed to repulse the Confederates. However, Colonel Vincent was mortally wounded and so Colonel James Rice, of the 44th New York, assumes command of the brigade.
At 5:10 in the afternoon, as another Confederate attack on the center and right of the brigade was repulsed, the Confederate 15th Alabama Regiment struck the left flank. Moving against the front of the 20th Maine, the 15th Alabama were stuck by heavy fire, but countered with volleys of their own.
At 5:25 in the afternoon, fighting between both sides momentarily stops, as the Confederates prepare for another attack. This respite does not last long, as the 15th Alabama make another assault at 5:28 in the afternoon. Once more, they move further right, thus forcing the 20th Maine to extend more and more to the left.
Hoping to outflank the exposed left of the 20th Maine, the 15th Alabama shifted their attacks further right (the Union's left). Seeing this, the 20th Maine starts to extend their line, thinning their front in order to occupy a broader front. This thus prevents the enemy from outflanking them.
As the 20th Maine desperately tries to hold the left, the rest of the brigade fends of attacks from the other Confederate regiments, who strike with great energy. Despite this, the Union line at Little Round Top was holding.
At around 5:45 in the afternoon, knowing that he can no longer extend his line, in fear of it becoming too thin, Chamberlain orders the 20th Maine to refuse the line. In this maneuver, the regiment's left wing would pull back and face towards the left, essentially creating an L shape. This would thus enable them to properly cover their left flank.
By 6:00 in the evening, the 15th Alabama, realizing that other Confederate regiments were withdrawing, and realizing they couldn't break the enemy before them, begins to withdraw. At 6:05 in the evening, Chamberlain, unaware that the 15th Alabama was about to withdraw, and noting that his regiment was desperately running low on ammunition, orders a charge against the enemy. He hoped that a charge would bring the final blow upon the foe who he believed were exhausted from a constant uphill fight.
Putting on their bayonets, the 20th Maine's left flank swung and wheeled right, in order to realign with the rest of the regiment, before the unit as a whole charged downhill. This sudden assaullt caught the 15th Alabama by surprise, which resulted in their troops either routing or surrendering.
With that the Union left had been secured.
However, as the fight for Little Round Top was raging, other battles were occuring down below.

Featuring my ponysona, my GF's Ponysona, and Cream Cake, as members of the 20th Maine Volunterr Infantry Regiment. In front of them is a makeshift stone wall, which was stacked by members of the 20th Maine in order to better cover themselves against musket fire during the fighting at Little Round Top.

@toomanydamnmuses said: 🤕 reverse
~*~ The role reversal between the two was not lost on the small blonde. She was normally the one who was unwilling to be cared for. She was so fiercely independent, but also needed the support that Kira had provided for her. Kaisa dipped a clean cloth into warm water and glared at him, ready to snap if he tried once more to tell her that he was fine. The pallid look on his face and the blood from his injuries told Kaisa otherwise.
“Sit your ass down, I’m not done with you,” she stated in a tone that said to not argue, “give me your arm first and let me clean the blood off of it. I’m not taking no as an answer and if you fight me on this I will knock you out in order to clean and check your wounds.”
Tumblr media
Her voice was harsh, probably more than it should be, but Kaisa wasn’t playing around. She needed to see how badly he was hurt in order to assess whether she could patch the wounds herself or call for a healer.

Pattern Notes
This pattern is worked in the round from the top down with increases for upper skirt shaping.
Dc rounds are started with a modified turning chain, a single crochet is worked without a ch-1 turning chain, followed by 2 chains to create the height needed for dc. When working the next round the top of the ch-2 is worked as the top of a regular dc st.
To make the skirt longer add rounds without increases between the increase rounds (for a shorter skirt, subtract rounds without increases between the increase rounds. The last round of the upper skirt needs to have a number of stitches divisible by 14 for the lace pattern set-up.
Drawstring for the skirt is a Crocheted Romanian Cord. If you need help there is a great video on Stitches n Scraps YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vniz9CAREVs Pattern Upper Skirt

PORTRAYAL & INTERACTION NOTES.
within the crux of the elysian realm's chapters, APONIA is said to have committed suicide by sacrificing herself wholly to merge with the realm; hence, her later death when the elysian realm is destroyed in the final battle. since her simulation, too, has been deleted by the herrscher of corruption, aponia is hardly more than a remnant of what she once was. now, the issue of context.
in the theory of her giving the whole of herself to augment the elysian realm, i am taking the liberty of implying that being brought back by elysia to fight in the final battle with the other flamechasers allowed a fragment of her real body to exist outside the augmentation. thus, this aponia is ONLY HER SIMULATION, boosted by the quarter fragment of her real body; hence, the recreation of a more fragile, unstable elysian realm ( as she cannot exist without or outside of it, because of how wholly she sacrificed herself into its being ) .
to bind the flexibility of this, in the hopes of benefiting her place in gnostic hymns, meager lines of aponia’s code have been scattered across worlds to supplement a larger foundation of the elysian realm’s stability. with this, DIVISIONS OF APONIA'S SIMULATION ARE ALLOWED TO APPEAR OUTSIDE OF THE REALM, though they are weaker than the original and are bound to only remember the memories they make within that specific world, not including whatever memories they may already hold. ( for example, if your muse makes friends with the aponia in teyvat and travels to jarilo - vi, the aponia of that world will not recognize them, nor remember being their friend. )
in a similar light, aponia's DISCIPLINE and HEAVEN'S EYE are very significant to her character and thus, are usually difficult to avoid the usage or discussions of, even if done subtly. here's two quick(?) explanations of each;
aponia cannot control her HEAVEN'S EYE, as the threads of fate are always visible to her from where they sprout on people's foreheads. she describes these threads as silk, which break off once out of her peripheral; a limit she doesn't have when seeing the future in glimpses. of course, i will not assume anything of your muse in these cases, since i'd like to play around with that power narratively in more introspective threads. otherwise, it will be up to us whether or not it's fair to imply that she'll become somewhat aware of both your muses' past and distant future upon their first or second meeting.
however, with her DISCIPLINE, that power is more interactive. by default, even without it, aponia is a convincing soul, usually hardly refused; paired with discipline, she is never refuted nor refused, even if the person is aware of what's being done to them. as you can tell, this is beyond godmoding at its core. so, this boundary will only be crossed to make a thread or interaction crazier. to utilize discipline, all aponia must say is please, though i will italicize and adorn the word with brackets so it's clear when she does and doesn't compel it. similarly, discipline isn't simply mind control; it's the process of introducing an order unto another, the manner in which they abide by it depends on their wish. don't worry, it's complicated and can be further discussed later.
CONTENT WARNINGS for this blog, as introduced in the interview, are discussions, mentions, and examples of, but not limited to, child death, mass murder, canon - typical violence, suicide, misunderstood & heavy survivor’s guilt, dehumanization of self, heavy existential - questioning concepts, abstract & concrete religious themes, and morally skewed ideations & thoughts of a religious "prophet".

Time for EXP and leveling system
For the demo project I'm going to do something simple, and a bit different from teh Pokeymans. Every level will require 100 EXP, but the EXP you get from a mon decreases as the level gap increases (like gen V). Each mon tracks which of your mons has participated in its downfall. How this is done varies by Pokemon game- if your opponent switches mons, in some games this resets the tracking and in some games it doesn't. There's literally no trainers or AI at the moment sooo let's just add it to the battlecomp object (the in-battle companion object thing… I still need a better name for that). Probably any tracking of an entire trainer's team worth of participation would be handled by the battle engine object and thus on a game-by-game basis, at the user's disgression. Just have a dictionary to throw it in to. Anyway, the thing will be a simple array of booleans, indexed into by the mon's spot in your party, max size equal to the max party size (which could be defined game-by-game but I'll put that together later). For fainted mons, their bool will be set to false before EXP is calculated and distributed. Individual species also need a base EXP yield, but let's assume they're all the same for now.
I'll start building the system from an example. Say your mon is level 5, you beat a level 5 mon one-on-one (no EXP split between other members)… let's say it should take like 2-3 of those to level up. So like 50-33 EXP. As you level up and keep fighting the same mons, let's say it should take one more mon each level to level up. So, EXP gain goes to 33-25, 25-20, 20-16… Basically, 100/(level gap + ~2.5). Now that introduces the little problem of division by zero… actually, wait, no it doesn't, because you're adding a .5 to an int value. But that's not ideal either, dividing 100 by .5 gives you 200 which is probably too much. And if it goes negative, so does the EXP yield. So, if you're lower level than the opponent, let's have an EXP curve that starts at a bit over 50 and approaches 100 without exceeding it. Something like 100*n/n+1 where n is the gap. n=1 is exactly 50, n=2 is 2/3rds of 100 which is ~67… That's good enough. The main thing is just to have an equation that takes in all the relevant numbers and gives a value that properly scales. Maybe n+.9 as the denominator to shift it upwards a bit. For splitting EXP between participants I'd like it to be a bit more than 1/n each. Maybe for two mons they each get 2/3rds, then 3 or more it's 1/(n-1). These functions will be handled by the battle engine object so users can easily customise them, as is already done with damage calculation. On opponent faint, it'll go like- create an array of floats (rounding should be the last step; although it's not like the initial array type really matters in GDscript shrug). Calculate the base division of EXP (eg, count the trues in the participant array, divide the fainted opponent's base EXP by that number and plop that into the float array slots of the mons in question), then go through each value and apply mon-specific modifiers (level gap, if the mon is holding a Lucky Egg or equivalent, if the mon is from another trainer, what have you). If EXP share is involved do the same thing for whoever's affected by that (non-fainted non-participants, plus participants who were holding the EXP share get that amount added to their total or however you want to handle that). Finally, apply EXP gain to each mon.
It always kind of bugged me that a level 1 mon in Gen V would get such a huge bonus to their EXP gain the whole way through, even though they level up in the process of… uh, levelling up. I'd have to think about how to deal with that- something like, at each level gained, recalculate the remaining EXP with that level, and if it's then under the amount to level up, give that much and stop. (Don't want to recursively apply the decrease for higher levels) But that could also be dealt with by curbing the EXP boost better for higher level gaps.
This system will be a lot easier to work on with the ability to check a mons current EXP, so maybe it's time to get the menu working. Also, this would be a good time to start working with project-specific monster class/objects inheriting from the default one.
A problem people had with the Gen V EXP formula was that grinding to level 100 was a pain- there's no wild Pokemon that high, and for flavor reasons there probably shouldn't be. I'm not going to implement it in the demo project because there's no progression in that at all, but an idea I had to fix this was, instead of decreasing EXP when your mon is a higher level, have a progression-based level cap, and have EXP decrease based on that. So, once you clear the game, there's no debuff on Pokemon gaining EXP as they approach level 100. There's a few other benefits too- for example, traded Pokemon won't overlevel and become disobedient due to the trade EXP boost, so disobedience is just a measure to keep ypu from trading in a high-level mon and sweeping the game, not something that makes a traded mon harder to use in general. Also, this helps address overleveling due to forced always-on EXP share without forcing you to let your favorite mons rot in the box, I hate Shigeru Ohmori… This sounds similar to what some challenge runs have as a restriction, to keep your mons under the gym leader's level, or some fangames that implement a hard cap and you stop gaining EXP at all past that, but I'd like to make it less… blunt. I envision a "soft" cap past which your EXP is cut for every level over it (so basically the level gap cut, but based on a set level rather than your opponent's level). This way, you're discouraged from going over the level cap and are unlikely to go over it by accident, but if you really need to you can do some extra grinding. Also, there's no need to tie it directly to gym badges. Flavor it as the player character having an epiphany and understanding their Pokemon better, and you can have it tied to any event- for example in X and Y there's a large gap between the first two gym leaders, so you might tie the second cap raise to the first encounter with Flare instead.
So I've begun implementing it.
Tumblr media
Yeah that's probably right. I haven't actually put in gaining the EXP yet- like I said that's waiting for menu and class updates- but basic calculation and distribution seems to be working.
