L looked at the ceiling, absently rubbing at the scar that had formed on his chest, it was large and twisted, it stood out from his skin and ached as if it was freshly healed, he blinked his mismatched eyes and then sighed, “Well at least I’m not waking up covered in blood all that often anymore.” He mumbled, it was still weird to share a body with another soul, one that was corrupted by the abyss beyond repair.

Twin Soul L // L & Thing

Once Izzy was healed and sleeping, L did everything he could to try and help Cassie get the work done with as little stress for her as he could. He passed her bags as she needed them, he carried bodies and disposed of them without a trace, he cleaned up the front yard so that the delivery men didn’t suspect anything. It wasn’t too hard, he did also fox up the car too because whatever Thing had done on his way back had tainted it, but gods he was going to be so hungry after this.
When she spoke up he looked at her from where he was fixing broken furniture and smiled, “Okay, I’ll make sure it’s all sorted!” He called to her, when she left he wondered if he should offer to heal her arm, would that be helpful? He brewed on the thought as he fixed up the last bits in the house, then he heard the truck and he stepped outside he walked over and signed for the delivery and told them just to leave it on the sidewalk he’d take it in. They looked sceptical at his small frame but it was less work for them so they unloaded and left.
He picked up the boxes with ease and carried them inside before placing them neatly, he was bringing in the last box when he saw the back end of Cassie carrying Izzy into the bathroom. He placed the boxes down and shut the front door, maybe it was time to put up some barriers, he’d have to ask what would be best because he didn’t want anything to accidentally interfere with tech and signals, so he put up a message on Constellation’s magic board and as usual a fair few L’s were eager to reply, magic was a shared love and this board was one of the biggest. So as Cassie took care of Izzy he watched some videos and read some replies until she came out, licking his phone he got up and began to help her with the boxes.
“Um… tell me if I’m overstepping my boundaries but… I can heal that for you if you want?” He offered, nodding at her arm, “I got my dads ability to heal people and create to a degree, I can’t do as much as him but…” his tail flicked behind him, “I can also put up a barrier around the house to try and protect and keep unwanted people out.” He added, he didn’t like seeing people stressed out and hurt, after everything they should have some peace of mind and if he could give it to them so be it.

“No need to apologise, I’m here to help.” He replied, closing up all the wounds he could on Izzy, he checked on her star without poking the heart too much and it seemed stable. He kept his warm winds circling Cassie, his tail kept around her arm trying to comfort her, “It’s okay, she’s going to be okay. She’s stable and I’m replacing her blood now, she’ll be groggy and a bit achy but she’ll be okay.” He promised her, when she calmed down he nodded and uncurled his tail, but he left some winds around her just in case. As Cassie began to move L finished up healing her before he carefully lifted her and carried her over to the couch, laying her down he knew she just needed to sleep.
With that done he turned and began to help Cassie, he helped move the bodies out back and took the chance to cut out their hearts, he hated it sometimes but these were bad people so it was okay. And with that he ate the hearts as quick as he could before burning the bodies in his flames, he headed back inside helped Izzy clean all the blood away, once that was done he looked at her, “I’m gonna go fix out front.” He called to her, stepping outside he sighed seeing the rotten mess, gathering his magic he spread it out and began to revive the grass, in the end he had to just burn it away and regrow it and the other plants, he replaced the fence and path and once that was done he headed back inside.
Moving over to Izzy he gently brushed her hair out the way and checked her temperature, using his magic he cleaned her up and gave her all new clothes, he glanced back at Cassie, “Is there anything more I can do to help?” He asked his tail twitching worriedly, he didn’t like seeing these people stressed and upset, he hoped he could at least help relieve some stress and be of use, maybe that way he would be seen as his own person. Of all the people Cassie felt like the only one who treated him as him, and in a way she reminded him of his mama and that made him want to help her calm down and be relaxed more than anything.

L could smell the panic and his tail flicked out to curl around Cassie’s arm and squeeze it assuringly as he kept his hands on Izzy healing her, he looked at all the wounds and he sighed, “Okay that explains the headache.” He muttered, listening to her he shifted and made some winds warmed by his flame swirl around Cassie to try and keep her from getting cold, his spade rubbing her arm comfortingly as he could, “Well… that’s one hell of a way to wake up.” He laughed slightly, having healed the worst of it he moved to her defensive wounds, each touch so gentle and caring.
When Cassie spoke he looked at her, “No.” he said firmly, “Thing isn’t the best at explaining, but I can see what he’s done. When she died the first time her soul got taken by the abyss, so he did a taboo. Effectively he didn’t have magic so he made up for it with life force, he corrupted his own soul and heart by killing and committing a murder of what I think was the equivalent of him killing people he loved as parents. Cassie Thing used his own heart to become a holder for her star which he bargained in exchange for. He feeds his heart by eating them, in turn his heart keeps Izzy’s star alive and empowered, so even if she’s gutted, she won’t die, as long as his heart has been fed she won’t ever die.” He explained as best he could.
Sure he didn’t know exactly, but he had a nose for certain things and Thing was also an alter of his. Not to mention the magic woven around her star and the heart it was within made sense with how it was tethered to Thing’s soul. “One does not make a deal with the abyss without consequences on both sides, but whatever he did, I promise he did it out of sheer love for her. What I pulled him from was… let’s just say time does not exist in the abyss, he wasn’t unmade either, he was eternally trapped in a personal hell they made for him. And trust me… there’s a reason he doesn’t ever fight Alice back when he get pissed at thing.”

Thing scooped Izzy up and began to pour as much magic as he could into his heart, he felt how close it had been to waking up and he snarled and spat curses in a voice just as deep and twisted as his form. He shouldn’t have left, he shouldn’t have gone anywhere, he shouldn’t have ever left her side. He couldn’t heal, not this, he could heal her episodes and scars, he could feed his heart to empower her star that was held within it, but gods he couldn’t heal this. Wait… gods.
Cassie’s words brought his attention to her, “Cassie!” He barked, “You have to knock me out! Right now! L can heal her! Focus on Izzy first, if anyone tries I will come back and kill them!” He hissed, “But you have to knock me out right now, or she’ll suffer more!” He knew he was being harsh, but he had to get her to cooperate, L couldn’t wake up like him, for some reason the moment he slept he seemed lost until he got woken up when Thing either slept or got knocked out, and he knew that would be hard but Cassie was the only one who could do it right now.

Thing chuckled dryly, “I’m not the one who needs to stay safe Cassie, drive safe.” He replied shutting the door before he headed off. His hunt went well, so he decided he had time to do a few more and feed up as much as he could, so that’s what he did he moved around taking out gangs, robbers and thugs, he took out part of a cartel too before he found a shower and cleaned himself off, getting dressed he headed outside and began to head back home, however there as something that began to bother him.
He stopped walking and sighed, “You can’t tail anyone for shit, just come out already, I know you’re all there.” He declared loudly, a few seconds later the people came out. At first he thought they were just some left over gang members or something and he smirked at the free meal, however that proved to be wrong. His smirk faded as he saw what decorated their clothes, his body froze as he saw what hung from their backs and how they all seemed to grasp daggers that made his body ache in memory. They didn’t even get to speak because his mouth split open and he let out a monstrous screech of fury, a black aura erupted from him it spread and twisting becoming tendrils and before they could react he was ok them without a care of who saw, consumed in his fury he ripped and tore and shredded every last cultist.
In the end he didn’t even hear how his phone was going off, but he didn’t need too as he just ran, his body erupted and burst into writhing shadows that shot out, everything it touched died, it rotted and decayed, metal rusted, ground became dust, people shrivelled and left rotten corpses their life drained and hearts stollen their bodies hollowed and emptied as the wraith like shape shot through the streets all the way back. The garden withered as he crashed to the floor reforming he slammed the door open smelling blood he ran in, black veins had appeared spreading out from under his eye patch as he rushed in and saw her. He looked monstrous shadows streaming from his back writhing like tentacles his mouth split open a mouth full of teeth revealed he rushed over and dropped to his knees immediately he drew on that magic and began to feed it into her, his breaths growling and deep, yet he was terrified, it was there in his face his love and care for her.

Thing was always there for her, his only concern was always her. Even after what had happened, even after he got them all moved and her parents brought back, even when their hatred for him tried to keep them apart he denied it and followed. He always followed and never went far, he always came back to her side, he always had his arms open for her when she ran to him, he didn’t care how much he bled, he didn’t care how much he hurt as long as she was safe. He kissed her, he stroked her hair and cheeks, he cradled her in his arms and rocked her softly until she fell limp, he slowly laid her down, he grabbed the first aid kit and began to tend to her wounds, using sutures to close her up whilst she was out cold, he bandaged her up when he heard the call.
He sighed and tucked her under the covers, pressing a kiss to her forehead he stood up and glanced at the whiteboard on the wall, sure enough L had said how they had a job interview, why would they need one? What was the point? It explained the get up at least. Thing walked out and looked at Cassie, “I don’t know what he planned but that’s not important right now, I need to refill. She had another episode.” He declared pulling his hair out the annoying tie, the long white hair fell down, “I patched her up and stilled the heart for now, L needs to stop doing pointless things again.”

Thing held her close as he picked her up and carried her into the bedroom, he could feel the sweat and the darkness inside her, unlike the owner of this body he knew what it was capable of more than anyone. He waited for her to move before he helped her take her shirt off, seeing the wounds open he shifted her carefully so she was laying down and he ran his fingers through her hair.
Seeing those wounds made his hands tremble, his many times over had he relived causing those wounds upon her? He felt nauseous but ignored it and just held a hand over her chest, drawing on the lower left in him black magic seeped from his hand, like curling tendrils they pushed into the wound, the darkness seemed to pulse with a blood red light every now and then as if mimicking a heartbeat, he didn’t have lots he would have to go eat more for that. “You have to say, let me… us… help.” He still wasn’t used to saying that, he fed that darkness inside her, pulling it back to sleep to fill it’s hunger and stop ripping her open. As he did he leaned down and pressed a kiss to her forehead, “Stop fighting, I won’t go to sleep until you behave and heal.” He muttered, trialing kisses softly down the side of her face as he fed what he had left inside him.

L noticed her pain, there was something him stirring in response and he felt like he was being pulled away his chest started to ache immensely and he grit his teeth clinging on trying to fight Thing for control of his body, he moved over to her and gently placed a hand on her back, he drew on his magic and his eyes began to glow, a mixture of blue and green light bled and out from his chest, it swirled down his arm and then spread around Izzy, “Deep breaths, nice and slow.” He said softly, using his magic to heal the pain, was it lucky that he had pretty decent training in healing magic? He wasn’t sure.
He swallowed trying to stay awake, it felt so strange but he had to remind Thing that this was his body, not it’s and he had to go to this job interview so he could at least help with the financial situation. It wasn’t easy to fight as Thing’s concern and care for Izzy nearly made him blank, but he tried to bargain and say he couldn’t heal her if he took over. That seemed to calm him down enough for him to be able to focus, he tried not to ask and let more than he had found out, he felt wrong too. Yet he was stuck here now, he didn’t have a choice and so he wanted to at least be a useful third wheel…

Thing lived only to protect and love Izzy, that was how he saw it, he would do anything and everything to protect and save her, even from death, he had already done that. So he poured his magic into his heart to make it full, and now all he could do was get a Cassie to snap into action. Feeling the grip of kinesis he forced himself to relax before he was slammed down so hard everything went black, all he felt was blood running down his head before he didn’t feel anything anymore.
L’s fingers twitched, his white hair turned black, his greyish skin became a healthy pale, slowly a a spade tipped tail formed behind him and he let out a slight groan before all he heard was Cassie yell. It was enough to jolt him upright, unable to see properly he pulled the eyepatch off and looked dazed, his head was pounding and his body hurt all over, but soon with a shift of flame inside him that faded and he finally saw the problem. He sucked in a sharp breath and lurched forwards, immediately his blue fires burst to life and this time he didn’t hold back and so steals and flickers of gold filled his fire as he poured them into Izzy.
“The fuck happened and just how did you wake me up exactly?” He asked confused, shifting the towel away he carefully pushed Izzy’s insides back into her and used his flames to seal her back up, true he could at least heal all these wounds without a single scar but he couldn’t touch the scars left by the ritual, yet the blackened heart inside her seemed full so thankfully they shouldn’t open again right? Thing’s soul felt so apprehensive and tense inside him as if expecting something else to happen. He had no idea what the hell he woke up too but he was exceedingly concerned.

Thing was used to people not liking him, he was used to the way they grew tense and worried around him, or in certain cases hostile. The way Cassie acted still confused him, although he did kill her first and he was all to aware that she was the only reason he got Glitch to fix Izzy to be properly alive and untethered from Fox like them. He sighed at her words, he didn’t understand things but she always made sense. He pulled out the phone and checked as sure enough L had labelled the numbers well enough, he called and kept it brief that he wasn’t going to make it due to a family emergency and that he would appreciate a revised date and time.
He followed Cassie out tugging at his collar that was now blood stained from a scar that had opened on his neck, he got in and buckled up before staring out the window at the house watching it pass away until everything began to blur, he didn’t have much a care but slowly things began to grow run down and he knew he would have a chance to hunt he glanced over at Cassie, “All the more reason I don’t understand why he would leave her.” He replied unbuckling, “I’ll make my own way back, as long as Alice hasn’t tried to lock me out again the door won’t be broken.” He replied getting out the car and shutting the door behind him.
He ignored the stares and whispers of people talking about his skin and eye as he cut down a street and followed the stench of sin, the darker the hearts the better. He soon found some quarry, heading down the alley he cracked his neck and slowly his mouth split open, stretching and tearing until there were just two tendons holding his jaw in place, he let out a growl and they pointed guns at him. It didn’t take long, he charged them, ripping them to spreads, tearing their limbs and flesh from them, smashing their heads in until they all lay dead. He then began to rip their rib cages open one by one, ripping their hearts out he ate them feeling his magic start to replenish he licked his his lips and rose. Time to head back he supposed.

Thing sighed and knew, he had overheard about how she had tried to eat a deer heart but he knew that wouldn’t work very well, it may have taken the edge off for a little while, there was only one thing that would work and he wouldn’t make her do that. That was his burden and price to pay, as she leaned into his touches he shifted and lay down beside her, keeping his hand over her and fed the darkness as he just stroked her hair and tried to stay as close as he could.
Feeling it react he just fed it, focusing every drop he had left in him, “He couldn’t take it, it was the thing keeping you alive. It’s why you used to get hurt if I was, it’s what I feed to keep you whole. My heart is the reason you live, it’s not a single organ inside you Izzy, it’s become a part of all of you.” He sighed, feeling it settle down he was thankful he had just enough to get it to sleep. He then shifted and held her close to him, “Shhh, no, no they won’t. Because Glitch changed that, the shadows can’t come get you anymore, they aren’t allowed and you know the shadows don’t mess with Glitch. We won’t have to go back like that, it’s not going to be like that, we can have an actual life I won’t let it be torture for you now. I promise.” Leaning in Thing kissed her softly on the lips, cupping her cheek he deepened the kiss and pressed himself to her gently, trying to get her to calm down.

“Izzy it’s fine, please let me help.” He told her, feeling her fight it he didn’t want to force it so he lessened the intensity, “Please, I won’t go anywhere until I can help.” He murmured, but then he smelt blood and he took a sharp breath in as that was too much to ignore. L staggered back his hand hit the counter his breath heaved as he felt the scar on his chest split open and pain was his last thought as he lurched and sagged slightly against Izzy’s back.
L’s fingers twitched as his skin started to take a greyish hue, his black hair paled and turned white, his eye began to leak as blood soaked at his binder one hand fumbled and grasped at his pocket finding the eyepatch he dragged himself upright to pull it on. Slowly opening his eye the sclera had turned black and the visible eye had a glowing white iris, when she spoke Thing frowned at her and shifted pulling her chair back he didn’t hesitate to pick her up bridal style and carried her back into the bedroom, “Stop it.” He said firmly as he lay her down on the bed, he shut the door then turned to her, “Show me.” He sat himself on the bed next to her, “I still have energy I can take the pain away.”

“No more shadows, no more pain, it won’t be like before. This body isn’t the corrupt one, this body won’t suffer like mine did.” He promised, sure his wounds opened but they always did, he didn’t feel it and it was just a side effect of his corrupted soul. He kissed her softly giving her tender and gentle touches, it was funny how kind he was to her, despite the brutality he had committed and continued to commit for her.
As she moved he held her, he welcomed her and just cradled her close, he kissed her and tried to pull her thoughts and focus to him, he ran his hand up and down her back slowly, trying to ease her. He just focused on kissing her, he kissed at her tears, he murmured how there wouldn’t be anymore shadows, no more pain for him, no more for her because all he had to do was feed his heart and it would all be okay. Sure enough she soon began to grow sleepy and holding her against him he looked surprised at her words, he smiled at her and gave her a gentle kiss, “My love for you has never once wavered, my heart you are so amazing, so strong… now sleep and rest, all will be well when you wake.”

L heard the door and slowly sat up, he felt scars all over his body begin to ache and he had a dull throbbing in his eye too, he looked over at Izzy before he went red and looked away shyly before peeling back, “Um, y-yeah thanks.” He said before sitting up only to pause and look at her confused, “Job interview?” He muttered before grabbing his phone and checking out his calendar, “Huh? Oh shit yeah, Nah nothing huge just some job down at the local museum, if I’m here I figured I may as well earn my own keep and since I have knowledge about tech and shit it’s my best bet.” He replied standing up he rubbed the back of his neck, “I’ll still be staying close, I’ll just have to work every now and then.”
