Wisconsin Covenant Event Update!
Hope these first few weeks have been an easy transition back to school for everyone.
Last Tuesday, the Wisconsin Covenant Scholars met to discuss various ideas for activities to do together. Here is a summary of what we discussed in case you missed it:
1.     We would like to get together for dinner in the Brickstone as a group just to catch up with each other every two weeks or so. We will meet at 5pm in the Bricksone, and will rotate the dinner days so that there is hopefully an opportunity for everyone to come to at least one dinner! Here are the dates:
Monday, October 7
Tuesday, October 22
Wednesday, November 6
Thursday, November 21
Monday, December 2
2. Many of you were interested in volunteer opportunities. We are planning to volunteer for Habitat for Humanity once a month, and tentatively have planned the first Saturday of the month so mark your calendars. More information on this will follow!
3. There was a lot of interest in participating in a Run/Walk event, either as a runner or a volunteer. Sadly, there are not very many opportunities for us to do this during the Fall Semester. Instead, we are looking to follow up with this idea in the Spring Semester, where there will hopefully be more options and opportunities.
4. Each semester the Wisconsin Covenant Scholars try to get together for a fun activity, and there were many fun ideas discussed. We would like your input on these! Please take this survey to let us know which activity you would like to do!
5. I moved! My office is still in the Office of Admissions (STCR D105), but I moved to the back office. Stop by to see me in D105L!

Fun Facts about our Scholar of the Week!
Tumblr media
When asked to describe herself in five words or less, Kimi said, "Leader, ambitious, industrious, compassionate, and dependable." Her favorite TV show is Law and Order: SVU, and she loves all different kinds of music. Back home, Kimi enjoys horseback riding, and has been doing so since she was six months old. She also loves hunting, tubing, and being outdoors. Kimi's favorite UW-Parkside event was Weeks of Welcome. "So many fun and exhilarating events happened, and the most memorable part was that it was mostly free!" Of all the excitement of Weeks of Welcome, Kimi's favorite event was the hypnotist and his mind-bending spoon-bending abilities.

Meet Kimi Spreeman!
Tumblr media
This week's Scholar of the Week is Kimi Spreeman! With her house being located four and a half hours away from campus, UW-Parkside was a perfect fit Kimi, both far from home and a place where she could be recognized for working hard. She loves the close-knit atmosphere of UW-Parkside, and that campus is small, so she can stand out! She also likes being able to get to know her professors, her favorite being Professor Thomas Roelke in the Biology Department. As a lab professor, he was extremely caring and very helpful. Kimi says he is very open to questions and and loves teaching. She also enjoyed having classes with Professor Shawn Houtsinger from the English department and Dr. Catherine Mossman from the Biology department. The best class Kimi has taken so far is BIOS 102, Organismal Biology, with Dr.Mossman. "This class was the best because it dealt with organisms, which is what I am most interested in." Kimi's favorite place to study is on the second floor of the library. She says, "I enjoy that it is quiet and not many people are there, but at the same time, you are able to hold conversations. When I am in my room on campus, it is hard to concentrate, which makes the library my go-to place to focus and get my homework accomplished."

On April 19, 2011, the UW-Parkside Wisconsin Covenant Scholars Learning Community was born! Back then, the Learning Community consisted of one lonely Wisconsin Covenant Coordinator in her office, and it has grown to over 100 amazing Scholars! We're going to celebrate our birthday tomorrow at ROAR where we will get to meet our next class of incoming Wisconsin Covenant Scholars!
Happy Birthday, UW-Parkside Wisconsin Covenant Scholars! Here's to many more!
