✧ did you know...?

✧ that garden.

✧ Gardenfell — Undertale AU by @makittuu ✧

✧ GARDENFELL INTRODUCTION BELOW THE CUT ✧

✧ In Gardenfell, the human comes across a secret garden. Upon entering the garden, a sentient yellow flower, who proclaims himself as Flowey, swings down in front of the human, stopping them from entering any further.

✧ "You're not from around here... are ya?"

❤︎ You stay still, expressionless. You didn't come here to make friends.

✧ "Not much of a talker? Well, pal, you'd do yourself well to get out of here." Flowey sways back in forth in front of your face, menacingly. ✧ A buttercup glowing a vibrant red color, in vivid contrast to the sentient yellow buttercup you were just speaking with, swings down and pushes Flowey to the side. They look very similar to Flowey.

❀ "Don't mind him."

✧ Perhaps you've gone insane, you think. The air is a little foggy around here; maybe it's some sort of chemical that's caused your brain to malfunction. Maybe it's best to just keep walking. You're not supposed to speak with strangers, and for some reason, it always feels so impossible to just get your mouth to open and say SOMETHING, ANYTHING.

❀ "Hey, where you going?"

❤︎ In your haze, you didn't realize you had started walking forward. Perhaps your will to be rid of anything has overwhelmed your manners. But, oh, how hard it is to have manners when it feels so impossible to even speak in the first place. You place your hand over your chest, searching for your necklace, your comfort. But it's not there. ❤︎ The panic pushes you to speak. "I'm... I need to get away."

❀ "Hmm... Well, going that way isn't a good idea."

❤︎ You look up. There's a swingset. It's like the ones you used to swing on, by yourself, when you were younger. I guess some things never change. It looks harmless, but the flower's words are a little anxiety-inducing. ❤︎ "Why? Is something the matter?"

❀ The flower glances around the area, then sways in close to your face. ❀ "Let's just say... People aren't so friendly where you're going."

❤︎ The butterflies consuming your thoughts all flutter up at once, taking over your mind. That feeling is back. The foggy feeling, the need to break out, to get away. You can't take it, it's always there, right there behind your eyes, youcan'ttakeityoucan'tyoucan't ❤︎ "That's fine. I just need to get out of here."

❀ The flower's cheeks, fluorescently dusted in that red glow, scrunch up into a face that can only be read as apprehension, and that alone. ❀ "Hey, buddy, I mean it. It's not a good place. Take it from someone who tried the same thing."

❤︎ You can't stand it. You can't take it. The haze. The fog. It's too much. It's too much. If you don't move, if you don't do something, it'll take over the rest of the way. Comforting, beyond excruciating. Like a lullaby, like a curse. ❤︎ Your eyes squeeze shut, and you feel yourself separating. It's happening. You're out of your body, you're out of your mind, your soul isn't your body. Your head shakes, you feel it, but a second later, you're not even sure if it actually happened. Your legs, they're walking toward the swingset, but you can't feel them. It's not you anymore. You. Who are you? Is that you? Are you you? What do you mean?

❤︎ You're on the swing. You use your feet to push up off the ground, and you feel some of the feeling returning, the tingling of your soul coming back into your body. And then, suddenly, everything, and nothing, all at once. Like the force of the earth has collapsed in on you, and everything is dark around you. You're falling. You're floating? You're gone.

❤︎ ❤︎ ❤︎ ❤︎ When you open your eyes, you see that red flower again. You make a sound of discomfort, feeling a dull pain in your spine. But in a way, you feel... better than you did earlier? ❤︎ "... ... ..." ❤︎ Your eyes widen. You can't- why aren't you-? You reach your hand up to your face. It feels soft, but not like skin. You hear a sigh.

❀ "Buddy, I told ya not to. Now we're both down here."

❤︎ Down where? And hey, no one said they had to come with you. Your eyebrows furrow.

❀ "Hey, it's fine, it's fine. You can't speak now, but it didn't seem like you were much of a conversationist before, anyway."

❤︎ What on Earth does that mean?

The red buttercup looks up, where light streams in through a gaping hole.

❤︎ You can still see bits of the garden. Oh, you fell. From the swings? Your memory is a little hazy.

❀ Light streams down on the flower's face. The tops of its cheeks inch up, their expression becoming bittersweet as they gaze upwards. "The buttercups. They're both a blessing and a curse. They take one of your traits. You'll live forever this way unless you set your soul free."

❤︎ You glance down at your hands. You shakily reach up to your face again. You lift up a piece of whatever is covering your mouth. It's a yellow flower. A buttercup. You stay that way for a moment, and then you yank on the petal. It doesn't feel like anything, but you hear a scream.

❀ "WHAT- NO! DON'T DO THAT! YOU'LL DIE!" The red flower slaps your hand away from your face with one of its leaves.

❤︎ It didn't hurt, you think. How could something so painless cause death? Is your soul linked to the buttercups? So many questions that you can't ask out loud.

AUTHOR NOTE ✧ Thank you so much for reading! I got into the UTAU fandom a very long time ago, and making my own AU is something I've wanted to do for such a long time! I really hope that someone out there likes my idea. It feels really nice to get back into something that has remained a part of me for so long, even if I've been less active in the fandom over the last couple years. I need to draw out designs for the other characters. Right now I only have Sans, and I have an idea in my head for some of the others! I should get to that eventually, hehhehe. I have some plans for later on in the storyline that I'm excited to flesh out more!
