vsynth has long since been trending towards the uncanny valley of singing but i feel like its been especially pronounced the past few years now that a higher proportion of banks sound nigh indistinguishable from human people. you can only really tell if youre already deeply familiar with each bank's respective engine
#its stunning the amount of progress vsynth tech has made within the past few years#and its been really interesting too seeing like adachi rei rise in popularity almost as a counter to ai vsynth#its admittedly kind of saddening that the industry preference overwhelmingly pushes realistic vocals over mechanical robot vocals#and i mean i know they do come equipped with parameters you can edit to make them sound robotic again but its genuinely not the same#when you have the concatenation ai built into the software and the phoneme transitions are automatically smoothed over#this isnt to say that ai vsynth has like completely overtaken or threatening the Future of Vocalsynth though#there is a significant portion of people who largely prefer the clunky/mechanical/robotic sound of early vocalsynth#which is why i think rei has gotten as popular as she has#and the cryptonloids in particular are forever stuck in the piapro ether so the most we'll ever see of a miku ai#is just ppl messing with the rvc ai voice cloner LOL#i think if ai truly was causing Creative Bankruptcy or whatever then utau would not remain as wildly popular as it is#and part of the reason why utau still remains so popular is because [teto image] FREE SOFT its free!! anyone can use it & develop their own#vb on it too. so like yes you have the matter of industry pushing out these hyperrealistic voicebanks at an overwhelming pace#but individual fans will remain using/developing their own voicebanks (aggressively points to adachi rei again) so long as public interest#stays. hence why i dont think ''big ai'' in vocalsynth is a real threat or anything#referring to them as ai banks in the first place anyway is such a misnomer bc its not the same as generative ai#i do think that the relative simplicity at which realistic vocals are synthesized now does somewhat obscure the monumental amount of skill#it takes to tune older voicebank because that shit is HARD!!!!!!!!!#like with how synthv works it obscures the technical tuning feats of older engines and how massively massively massively impressive it is#to get anything to sound good let alone Realistic on smth like vocaloid2#synthv got popular because its ui made tuning a genuinely intuitive process rather than something that makes you want to throw#bricks at your head so its easy to forget tuning (albeit Still hard) was Much much harder#but at the same time.... ai doesnt automatically make tuning better either#actual plain vanilla ai voicebanks often sound very flat and lifeless if no actual tuning is applied i.e. vibrato pitch change tension etc#its such a beautiful complicated lovely artform#anyways my original thoughts. you unfortunately cant get that mechanical/clunky/robotic sound with. any commercial voice synth#released within the past 3 years#i hope more overtly artificial in nature banks along the same genre as rei catch on in popularity

for the people having trouble getting salvador to work in openutau: aaaa i'm so sorry my lad is giving you trouble ; ; this seems to be a running theme with my libraries kjshljdhlfgjk
there's a couple suggestions in the notes of the original ask which might help, but for the time being i unfortunately do not have the willpower to do much in the way of troubleshooting
i swear once i get around to updating the website and releasing his quality of life update i'll put some actual work into testing him across different platforms ksjfghkdhfgj
until then

Aren’t they not partnered anymore because of NT? Idk if Yamaha cares as much because even if non musicians/weebs know miku, I think most ppl know Yamaha for their other instruments and motorcycles like how Zerog doesn’t care about engloids anymore because they were selling other software (there was something called “etherea gold” that was just vocalizing/backup harmonizing versus actual words, but maybe their main target was edm users that doesn’t focus as much on words/lyrics but I’d think 80 bucks is a bit steep for that )
i don't really know the details of the yamaha/crypton beef tbh. i'd love them to care because i like their product and legacy but it feels foolish to in any way expect a company to push through their failing side-gig for the sake of the artform or whagever :/

Starting this blog the only way I know how, the very first girlie
Utane "Defoko" Uta! Managed by Ameya!
Releasing with the launch of UTAU, March 6th, 2008, she's the first and default vocal for the program! She's also, in turn, the first UTAU to have a completely synthetic vb, being voiced by the voice synthesis software Aquestalk! (specifically AquesTalk-Female1, which you might recognize as the voice of the Yukkuri from the Touhou fandom, or from various songs by PinnochioP)
She has 2 official voicebanks, the one that comes preinstalled with the software, and an alternate one with clearer vocals. There are also a plethora of fan-made banks made to make her sound nicer and/or to make her easier to use. Anecdotally, when I was trying to download her to use in OpenUtau, I wasn't aware of her alternate bank that you could download, and instead I got a fan-made one off Itch.io (The Defokollection for anyone who knows), which got me really confused bc that one is in Romaji, not Kana.

give me some fun facts about vocaloids
1) the first ever computer to sing was the IBM 7094 in 1961! The first ever 'vocaloid song' was Dasiy Bell (thecnicallly it's not an original song its a cover but wtv) and you can find how it sounded here.
2) the first ever male vocaloid produced (KAITO) was considered a commercial failure when he was first released (he only sold 500 units in its first year lmao) , but later after Hatsune Miku's first voicebank was released he became fairly popular.
3) (not a Vocaloid but a UTAU) originally Kasane Teto was made as an April fool's joke, but ended up gaining popularity and after 15 years, she got her own SynthV VB!
4) Almost all voice synths have their own character item! For Miku it's her leek, for KAITO it's ice cream, for teto its baguettes, etc.
Umm I can list more if you want but that's all I can think off the top of my head lol. This was very fun to type out lol

happy (late) birthday FL-chan(FL Studio) and yuzu(utau) !!!!! [mar 8]
Tumblr media
(fl chan)
Tumblr media
(yuzu)
fl-chan is the mascot of fl studio. she was released in 2008 with fl studio 8. fl studios creator Didier Dambrin posted about wanting a mascot for fl studio after seeing hatsune miku, which resulted in an illustrator called uruido working with him to create flchan. flchans voice comes from the "Child" vb in fl studios built in tts synthesizer plugin. she speaks in english. it is completely within her tos to port her to utau as a jinriki vb
yuzu is a japanese synth released on 30 sep 2023, though her character birthday is mar 8. she is a tasteloid utau, voiced by one "Bubble", and designed by a competition winner, tish(t_ish_). yuzus sketch was done by guillotama, and lineart by spectrabund. yuzus vb is private, however usts can be submitted on the tasteloid website for her.
also sorry this is late !!! when i said to expect more lates i meant it <///3

thinking about the fact that "there's always a better UTAU and anything you can do and have done has probably been done leagues better by someone else with a better set up, better mic, more practice, better pronunciation, etc..." is a statement that would have once inspired such frustration and agony and desire to quit in me, but nowadays just has me like
phew ! ! ! thank god ! ! ! ! ! w
which is such a switch-up but honestly probably illustrates one of the biggest differences between pre-UTAU hiatus me and post-UTAU hiatus me w
#that and the fact that current me doesn't feel the need to hide their love of the community behind 6 layers of sass and contrarian nonsense#like my god i was sooo afraid of being cringe that i went out of my way to make crevan like That™#(spoilers: that ended up being cringe in its own right but i forgive myself for that ksjhdfglkj)#but back to the original point#i just keep thinking about the number of times i've seen people in the comments of UTAU release videos get indignant#and express such frustration and disappointment and vitriol towards the creator for not making a perfect library#and it's just like#my guy#libraries like kohaku merry are right there#you have gekiyaku and all the other super expressive multipitch VCVs with ten million appends#why are you acting so entitled over what is essentially someone's hobby OC#unless explicitly marketed as such#UTAU libraries are not a product#they're a neat little labor of hobbyist love that people don't even need to share but choose to because that's part of the fun#because so much of UTAU is all about finding the VBs you like and using them to make your own works ! ! !#there's literally an endless supply so if you don't like one you can just#move on#like i just don't get it#not every UTAU has to be this perfect end-all professional product ala kasane teto or all the other big name libraries#the whole charm is that they are a silly little indie thing#and i just straight up don't understand why someone would rather get huffy over a personal library than move on

I know the Vocaloid fandom makes fun of pjsk fandom a lot (especially those on TikTok w/ how many misinfo they spread lmao), but I feel like that there are a lot of Vocaloid moments that you just had to be there to experience it. (Feel free to add more.)
Galaco discontinuing. (Was genuinely sad when this happened)
Umetora releasing Ifuudoudou and we all collectively lost our minds bc how tf did they do that?? It was pretty mind blowing at the time to make Vocaloids talk, let alone moan.
IA English demos. English vocal synths was never be the same after that.
Kaitoverse and Kaitocest. It's giving those Onceler and Sans AUs tumblr era.
That one Kaito x everyone mmd video. You Know Which One.
SeeU's voice provider who got arrested for blackmailing.
SeeU fetish art being broadcasted on Fox News??
Iroha's voice provider telling transphobes to go buy Iroha instead of whining about his new voice after his transition. (He's still a great singer imo, people are just haters fr)
NeruP's musical transition that's basically just
Tumblr media
Hachi/Kenshi Yonezu and Syudou's "beef", which is just some lighthearted fun and people joked about it when they announced that they'll be working on the CSM op and ed respectively. Just overall good times.
The OG UTAUs that started off as a "joke Vocaloid" complete with joke-y info in their official profile (Teto being a 30-something year old chimera, Tei being a yandere for Len, Ruko being a futanari, Ritsu being a crossdresser who shoves nukes in their bra, etc.)
Fanloids like Zatsune Miku, Sakine Meiko, Yowane Haku, Akita Neru, etc. People just be making whatever tf oc they can by making adjustments to existing VBs and I think that was cool af.
I remember back then that some people are genuinely upset that people are sexualizing Acme Iku and other H-loids like, my brother in Miku, what did you think the H in H-loid stands for? 😭
